Excellent video - I found the use of basic strokes as the building blocks for the letters made the tutorial clear and easy to practice. Is there a follow-on from this video with uppercase letters, and potentially numbers as well?
This is so helpful. This video instruction was recommended by my calligraphy instructor. We learned gothic and blackletter last week and she had a video instruction, but thought that we could also get more tips from you. Thanks for a great video. I have the parallel pens in all sizes, but don''t use them much as we usually have to use the regular pen nibs in different sizes depending on the assignment. But, when I have used them, they are so easy and I just love all the ink color cartridges. Your guidelines look so easy, I think I'll have to subscribe for your freebies! Thanks so much!
Hi Barbara! Thank you so much for your lovely note, I'm so happy to hear that you found the video helpful! The Parallel Pens are wonderful - they're very versatile and you can use fountain pen inks with them as well. I hope you found the guidelines useful too! Thanks again 😃
Awesome tutorial! I love the '"s"! The guide sheets are perfect! You've made it so much easier to practice with any nib size I want. I had been practicing without guidelines...and you can definitely tell. 😂 I just purchased the 3.0 Pilot Parallel, but already had the other sizes. (you said you were using the 3.0 but I think you're using the 3.8 🤭) I also just received the 3 pack of ink refills you mention in your supplies list, and the colors are beautiful. And at a great price point. Amazing content in your Free Treasure Trove for sure! Thanks Tamer!!! I definitely needed all of this!
Thanks so so much for the kind feedback! You have no idea how much I appreciate it 😃 I'm so glad that the worksheets and other resources are helpful and congrats on your new pen!! I obviously love these pens a lot 😂 and you're totally right - I totally said the wrong size in the video so I wrote 3.8 in text rather than re-record and delay it even more 😂 Those ink cartridges are really fun right? So many colors! There are even some in there that aren't available individually (some like violet and turquoise you can buy as packs of just that color). Thank YOU for your feedback, it really means a lot! Please let me know if there's anything you'd like to see or know about in upcoming vids 😁
Oh! Tamer, it's wonderful. How kind and patient he is. I knew you were good people! Now! How about showing us how to do them little decorative doohickeys? Like sometimes they're on the left side of the body ( half-way up X-height of a letter), and sometimes they show up at the terminus of a final stroke. Thank you for taking the time to put this together for us!! Yay!

Thans so much for your feedback, I'm so happy this was helpful! Great question - for this one I was using a larger HUION lightbox (there's a link on my toolbox page at BlackletterTools.com) but I've since got a smaller one that was around $20 and it works great, too. 😃
Are you familiar with Ward Dunham's work? Not sure if he is still with us... but he was a Blackletter calligrapher from back in the 80's and 90's. Pretty sure he published a book or two.
Glad this was helpful and I understand the challenges with inks sometimes - it can be worth looking into lightfast inks and other protections that can help with the inks fading due to sunlight 😃
Thanks very much for the feedback Troy, I really appreciate it! I'm working right now on a project for writing some easy capitals 👍 I'll be sharing some updates through my newsletter so feel free to join in for news there!
Would like to know more about paper and what purpose your dark paper downloads serve, that question may sound silly but i felt like asking. I am a novice so not ashamed to ask 😔
Thanks so much for the feedback, I really appreciate it Mohammed! And that's actually a great question - I put the dark/light versions of the worksheets in the pack so that they can also be used with programs like Procreate. If you're writing on a dark background it's easier to use the light versions, if you're working on a light background it's easier to use the dark version of the guides. Hopefully that made sense 😂 Thanks again for the feedback, man
I know how that goes - but graffiti lettering is awesome too so I'm sure it's just making your letters more unique and awesome 😃 You can snag these guidelines that I used for free through my newsletter (www.blackletterfreebies.com) if it helps but I hope you're having fun with this style or a combo blackletter/graffiti style!
Thank you so much for your feedback! You can get the guide sheet templates for free by joining my newsletter at www.blackletterfreebies.com as part of a bundle of resources I call the Blackletter Treasure Trove 😃
When writing actual words, is there a technique for spacing narrow characters "i" and "j" naturally such that they don't swim in white-space? I'm guessing the paper needs to be re-registered laterally with respect to the guide sheet.
Great question! When it comes to spacing for words, the space generally varies depending on specific letter pairs, so with some letters is absolutely makes sense to move the next letter closer. Because of all of the possible combinations, when writing words I find it easiest to get the hang of writing the letters then use simpler guides with horizontal guides so that the letters can be spaced based on judgement. Hope this helps a bit!
Thank you for the wonderful tutorial on the way you write the alphabet. I wish you could see this 😆. I know Becca favorite words practice, practice, practice. I need alot new pen. Having trouble controlling the ink. But I will get it . I was wondering do you have a work sheet of your alphabet would really help.Thank You
Thank YOU, Karla! I know it can be tricky sometimes getting the hang of things but I know you can do this 😃 One other thing to consider, too is that the paper makes a difference. And thank you for the feedback and suggestion - that's a great idea to include an exemplar of the letters with this... I foresee another update to the Treasure Trove in the near future 😉

@@BlackletterFoundry I too would like to see the uppercase letters. Just bought my first parallel pen (3.8mm) & tried to write this alphabet from memory. I got pretty close. This is an excellent tutorial. Very easy for a beginner to follow. Thank you!

Love the video. Very helpful. What model or light box do you use?
Thans so much for your feedback, I'm so happy this was helpful! Great question - for this one I was using a larger HUION lightbox (there's a link on my toolbox page at BlackletterTools.com) but I've since got a smaller one that was around $20 and it works great, too. 😃
Are you familiar with Ward Dunham's work? Not sure if he is still with us... but he was a Blackletter calligrapher from back in the 80's and 90's. Pretty sure he published a book or two.
Have you done an upper case gothic calligraphy alphabet?
It was very helpful Vedio. Looking forward to your next tutorial on upper case letters.

My pleasure James! I'm really glad it was helpful! 😃
UV harsh African sunlight --quickly fades the ink --sign is now done with enamels --the slow hard way --thankyou ! I keep trying !
Glad this was helpful and I understand the challenges with inks sometimes - it can be worth looking into lightfast inks and other protections that can help with the inks fading due to sunlight 😃
Just awesome! Good work, thank you very much! Now It's seems so easy... You have explained very well!
Thank you Nilesh! I'm glad this helped!

No problem --love your lesson on gothic lettering
Very easy to follow guide. Are you going to be recording a majuscule version of this?
Thanks very much for the feedback Troy, I really appreciate it! I'm working right now on a project for writing some easy capitals 👍 I'll be sharing some updates through my newsletter so feel free to join in for news there!

Thank you very much!! I really appreciate it and I'm so happy you found the video helpful! 😃
Thanks for this.easy to follow, plain simple tips. Kudos. Keep making them for us to get the hang of it. Cheers 👍
Hopefully that made sense 😂 Thanks again for the feedback, man
@@BlackletterFoundry thanks again. Got it mate 👍
Just finished the whole alphabet with your tutorial!! Thanks so much
Thank you Maria! I'm really happy you found this helpful! 😃
yay! now I can write midevil looking texts! Thanks for the tutorial!

Straight fire. Super helpful bro.
Thanks so much!
I learned graffiti scrawl first and for the LIFE of me I can’t get my writing to NOT look like it’s a tag 😂 I need lined paper
hi my name is kishor. please search for 'carve the curve'. please watch and subscribe.
Sir the link is not working how can I get your guideline sheets now.
😂
Same here
❤thank you for those informations and the tresor chest and the grib 😊
My pleasure Claudine! Thank you very much for you kind feedback, I really appreciate it!
This is incredibly helpful. Thank you so much. Would you consider doing the same thing, but with uppercase?
Thanks very much for your feedback, I really appreciate it and definitely hope to share an uppercase version soon. Thanks again!
This video is awesome.... I couldn't find the templates to print and follow along.
Thank you.please make video on uppercase blackletters
Thanks for the feedback, Chetan. I'm currently working on a class covering all of the letters 👍
@@BlackletterFoundry 👍🙏
Whats the x, acender and decender height in the sheet? they don't seem to be 2-5-2?

Hi Yumi! I know what you mean - I was previously only aware of their multitude of other products and found these when I started diving into the world of broad nib calligraphy. They're great tools (I have a ton of them now!)
