    I have never ever seen someone write in such a clean, consistent, serif font. I dont think I've actually ever seen someone handwrite serifs before!

    • @pjemje
      @pjemje Месяц назад +20

      It's definitely unusual seeing someone write serifs because it serves no purpose in our culture. But maybe it's because certain Asian languages are like drawings, the way their words are so incredibly complex compared to our alphabet. Every Chinese word is almost like a piece of art on its own. If someone from that culture then learns to write our letters, they simply draw what they see. For example, the way the person in this video writes the lower case 'd' and 'g' is a little odd. We don't draw a full circle shape and then a vertical line along the side. They also start a new line with a capital letter, even if it's mid sentence. This is why I believe it's not their native language but they are copying and drawing along with something. Makes me appreciate it more.

      It isn't that hard (although this guy/girl is particularly skilled). It just takes a bit of practice. My normal handwriting was/is still pretty mediocre, but years ago I wanted to improve it, and so I bought a fountain pen and made a point to improve it. It didn't take long until I had pretty great handwriting. But it's very inefficient and so most people would never know I have solid handwriting when I try lol. Every now and then I'll bust out those skills if I'm writing someone a card.

    I'm impressed by the consistent font, legibility, hand control, and dexterity shown here. I've seen so much illegible chicken scratch in my life.... Ugh. 😒 This however was beautiful. The confidence displayed when writing any of the curved letters *chefs kiss.* Sorry, just geeking out over details.

    弘法筆を選ばず。(Kobo never chose a brush.)
    This is a Japanese proverb meaning, "A master is able to write beautiful letters no matter what kind of brush he uses.
    This beautiful video is a perfect example of this proverb!
    Kobo(Kukai) is a 1200 year old monk who is the founder of the Shingon sect of Buddhism in Japan.
