  • I'm building a Bluetooth Stereo system with an amplifier for my classic car. I'm trying to avoid cutting into any panels or touching the original stereo. To keep the car looking as original as possible, this is the solution that I came up with.

When you connected the amp to the battery, how do you make sure it doesn't drain your battery by staying on

Two ways. Relay from the ignition switch will definitely cut it off. The other way is to have an amplifier which only turns on when it senses an input. The app I have will turn on when it has an input. You can also add a switch in that line it so that it doesn't accidently connect to the phone.

@@SmackeysGarage thanks for the info it helped a lot. For an update I ended up putting in a killswitch( one normally used in tractors) in my center console.

@@DEADBYSUNR1SE Thats a good idea. I’ve been thinking about adding a hidden kill switch to my car too.

Great work! So you still use the stock speakers 2 ea at kick panel and 2 ea at the rear window with your original stereo? And you never touch your radio? I wonder if I can use those original speakers with the Pioneer amp and bluetooth adaptor? I have the same 69.

I do not use any of the original stereo equipment any more. The original stereo is powered and lights up but is not hooked up to anything. I only use these two speakers connected via Bluetooth to my phone. I’m not sure the power handling of the original speakers. I’d be careful connecting them to a modern amp.

@@SmackeysGarage Thanks! One more thing - can you share the model # of the pioneer amp? 2 channel I think.

This Bluetooth adapter did not. I ended up switching it to another version recently. Check out this video and look at the options that are linked in the description of the video in this link.

My Camaro radio went out do u think I could connect the Bluetooth adapter directly to speaker wire? I have connected my subs to my phone but volumes is lower than my phone. A new radio and dash kit is too expensive.

The bluetooth adapter in this video, no. You'd need an amplifier + BT adapter. Take a look at this video. That is how I have my retro sound speaker set up.

@@SmackeysGarage would the whuzi amp work with two skar 8s? I have a pioneer amp but it isn’t the right one for my 1 ohm speaker s. I was running them without a amp off rear speakers. My radio went out when I was trying to install amp. Code u0184 lost communication with radio. Now my speakers, turn signal sounds, and seat belts noise don’t work. Radio drains battery so ac went out. Took the radio out now the ac works again. My screen and volume control don’t work on dash kit. My steering wheel volume control doesn’t work either. And I get no sparks when I put my speaker wire on a screw in trunk. So I was tryna find a cheap option to listen to my subs. I tried a boom box, a tablet, laptop, and then connected to my phone. The volume is extremely low don’t have money for a professional installation.

I see it is the subwoofer and not just speakers. I doubt it would have enough power for good sound with a subwoofer. Without enough power you'll have the same issue. Really low volume.
Sounds like it has been quite the hassle. What type of car is it? It almost sounds like a fuse blew somewhere in the dash circuit.

@@SmackeysGarage a 2014 Camaro lt with 2lt package. Iv had it less than a year. I got it with 47k miles on it I just recently got to 50k. It turns out that GM are making bad radios. I didn’t know this at the time. I have had 2 diagnostic test run on it. Code U0184 lost of communication with radio. All my fuses are good. Battery and alternator is good also.
