I've had a few bluetooth things that do similar 'connect' sounds, and they are all horrible. I had headphones I was using in the gym and it was constant 'dee-dee-deeeee bluetooth mode ... connected', 'dee-dee-dooooo bluetooth mode ... disconnected', 'dee-dee-deeeee bluetooth mode ... connected', 'dee-dee-dooooo bluetooth mode ... disconnected'. I just put them away and never used them again. I have Bose bluetooth headphones and it's just a very simple, nice tone.
This one is the worst I've heard though, it's like a full symphony.

A belated thanks for making this. After seeing this, I now have the same setup wired into my 1968 Sunbeam Alpine and enjoying streamed music while driving. I’ve got the unit mounted behind the dash though, so I can work the volume control which is great when pulling up to the lights and need to turn down or putting foot down and turning it up! Cheers for inspiration.

Thank you for this really educational video. At least for me. I was wondering what car audio to install in my new bought 1989 Alfa Spider, which hasn't had any radio installed from the factory.
Was a bit undecided if to go with old radio in matching vintage style and then having problems with playing music from my phone or to buy some new radio which supports all new technologies but would definitely not match vintage car look. And finally I realized I don't want to install any typical car audio at all, which would be visible in the car's cockpit.
And now, after seeing your video, I know the solution. Already ordered. Thanks.

I just added one of these to my FJ40. I love the look with a retro nob in the dash. Unfortunately, I'm very disappointed with the sound quality. Frequency response is appalling, especially in the low range and it simply doesn't output high enough levels to be heard in a noisy, rattly, loud vehicle. I will have to invest in a proper bluetooth amplifier and discard the cheap chinesium unit which is unfortunate because the fit in the dash with the nob was great.

Get 2 high watt Bluetooth speakers and pair them. Put one under your back seat and one under the passenger seat. Car with thump

@@stevenc22 I noticed the Bluetooth remains connected even though the amp is turned off. Is it draining battery power all the time?
@@c3aloha you wired it wrong. You must have wired it to constant power instead of switched power.
@@stevenc22 ah yes I confess I wired straight to my battery because couldn’t find a good switched source under my dash to splice off of. Still it seems strange that it should still be on when it’s turned off. It does work great though! Thanks again for uploading!
@@c3aloha The bluetooth circuit probably stays on even if the amp is turned off. Wire in a switch into the battery wiring to totally kill the amp and the bluetooth
Guys technically you can find any modern radio that has a rf (do not get ir) remote and hide it. If you need more space you can disassemble it but you should be able to do wiring similarly and most of these cheap radios have built in amps, and can use radio/aux/bluetooth etc that can be switched over with the remote, as well as the volume, and what else? NO STARTUP SOUND. This is because it's technically announcing it startup visually on it's screen, which is going to be hidden and replaced with the remote. Just thinking out loud and might do this on my 1974 Buick Regal. Good luck guys.

THANK GOD I found your video. The ANNOYING amplifier was in my cart and NOW I have the other one ordered and an original VW block off plate that will match the rest of my interior! Original parts, yes. Bluetooth audio, yes. Annoying startup jingle, NOPE!
I want to do something similar in my 240 1986. Really want to keep its original look, but have featers and audio quality of a modern system.
An idea I came up with is, in classic cars, to try and find a bluetooth radio that is slightly smaller than the pop out ashtray, where you remove the ashtray, keep the lid, and rig up a device that allows the bluetooth screen to slowly slide out and rest on the lid. This would allow for you to keep the overall aesthetic of the classic while also having a modern amenity.
Doing this in my VW, I'll let you know how it goes.
The same company makes a smaller 100 x 2 that fits perfectly in the ashtray of my 1960 Belair. Works great driving two speakers in the dash.

I may just use your idea here. Both of my old car's stereos broke within a couple days of each other and I have been having such a hard time finding something that won't look ridiculous as a replacement in my dash. If I use this then I can just hide it away and keep my original head unit.

If you have a cigarette lighter receptacle. there are totally wireless solutions. Bluetooth adapter plugs into cigarette lighter & broadcasts on any open FM channel on car radio. I don't think many vehicles had FM radios in the 60's. Most started in the 70's & by the 80's all had it.
keep Aux jack for if on road trips can't get connection can fix that usually by downloading the music but then your phone will run slow and have no memory

It's powered by the car battery. On my bench I was just using a standard 12v wall transformer.

love it- question can you run hands free? I've seen BT amps but looking for something that will run hands free too for calls.
That is harder. Marine and hidden amps often dont have microphones for hands free calling. You may just want to get a regular head unit with a remote control and hide the head unit in the glove box.

Of course. An amp simply takes an incoming signal and increases it. So yes.

You can wire 4 speakers to this but it will halve the volume of each speaker. I haven't really found a cheap 4 channel board like this. Now they do make 4 channel bluetooth motorcycle and marine modules that would work fine. No. It's a Bluetooth amp and does not have a mic

Some subwoofers take a component input, that would work.

This will work on any classic car with a 12v electrical system. Some carsb have a 6v electrical system and that won't work.

Yes. The current radio probably has switched power so you can tap power from there

Of course. Works great, no regrets.
Best practice is to use a 12v 4 pin relay that is energized when key on. Plenty of relay come with a integrated fuse, otherwise install a fuse inline the power supply line.

@@anthonypipia6990 Don't worry about wattage. The amp will likely put out less than the speakers can handle. Just a cheap set of name brand speakers will be fine. Kenwood / jvc / blaupanc.
