Because the last several years have been harsh for small business owners, I’ve been forced into a minimalism-or-else life and I’m SO grateful for it. Reassessment of what is truly valuable is such a great ongoing, evolving exercise.
As we grow, we learn that it’s not about the things. When we appreciate all we have, and that our needs are met- we lose the desire to shop. I need very little, and appreciate all of it, when we pare down to what we love and what we use. It’s about investing in our relationships- not cleaning and shopping and acquiring. My life has real purpose now and profound meaning ❤️ I wish peace, contentment and love to all of you!
Thank you so much for sharing ❤️ You summed up this video so beautifully. My life right now feels so busy and like it’s racing by so I’m trying so hard to slow down and take in the little sweet moments as they come ❤️
All of what you said is so true! I just finished reading Joshua Becker’s book about this. How stuff gets in the way of living your big dreams. A collegue declutterred her life to finally move to Spain with her husband after having had this dream for over 20 years! I’ve started declutterring too and I don’t even feel like buying stuff I don’t need at all anymore. All my needs are met. Nothing we buy will make us happy. Only WE can! ❤
Thank you for your video. I was praying to God what to do about my car and I think I got the answer. I bought my dream car 10 years ago, and I still love it so much. But it has been presenting some issues and the mechanic called me to say that fixing everything will be around $5,000 and recommended me to get a new car 😢. Which I didn’t have the intention nor want to start paying for a car. I have not payed for a car in the last 6 years, and it is amazing. I think I prefer to fix it and squeeze that car a little bit more. English is not my first language, so sorry for any mistake in my writing.
♥ This is such an important topic! When I was on my decluttering journey, my daughter had just become an adult. She was working and buying a lot of clothes off websites like Shein and Thredup because she wanted to build her wardrobe and try a variety of styles. It's a few years later now and she feels the weight and the struggle of managing too much clothing. She has trouble keeping up on the laundry and fitting it all in the closets in her apartment. She also has a closet and dresser full of clothes here too. She came home to visit this weekend and pulled out 3 black trash bags worth of clothing and footwear to donate because she's ready to live with less now too.
That’s amazing! I had to learn the hard way too, through buying so much for years and then regretting it and getting rid of it. But at least it taught me some valuable lessons I’ll never forget ❤️❤️ I wish your daughter all the best!!
❤❤❤Just discovered you and right when I needed it most! My husband and I are moving to a new house in a new state after 34 years in the same one! We have both decided we want to become minimalists! The stuff has not brought us happiness, it’s like you said, things can become a thorn in our sides! We have donated and tossed so much and still feel overwhelmed! I love watching your videos and insight! As we start a new life after 50 years of marriage, we plan to take the years we have left and enjoy more nature, more interaction with family and friends and not fill our home with things we don’t need! You are a blessing and joy to watch and listen to! Thank you for being here! ❤
Powerful video, thank you❤As an artist, I find that if I have too much paints and brushes and stuff to choose from, my inspiration and lust for working decreases. It’s just too much sensory input. And after a good equipment declutter, I instantly get a lot of ideas. Like everything gets clear, and there is space both in the room and in the mind, to create!
That way, when I have barely any painting supply to work with, I also learn what I actually need for my work. And then I stick to that. Otherwise, going into an art supply store..I want to buy half the store😅
What a great video! I'm getting ready to move states and I truly don't want to move 85% of my belongings. I have been in a horrible funk as I have lost 3 family members whom I was closest too and my beloved little border terrier all with in the shortest amount of time. I am moving to start fresh in a state with sunshine and good walking trails and now that I am alone and have been so sad because the loved ones who meant the most to me are gone it's even more clear how things don't matter, people and animal do, and the time spent with them brings happiness not stuff.
I’m sending you all my love and hugs ❤️ it sounds like you are getting ready for an extraordinary new chapter and I wish you all the happiness in the world on your move ❤️❤️
I think most people have to experience for ourselves how things rarely bring us the promise we assign to them long term. I think that’s where a lot of depression comes from. Instead of recognizing that concept, we feel like we’re the problem not the consumerism. That’s why I love channel like this who help us see that individually we are not broken, the concept of consumerism is.
❤ I can relate to what you said buying things does give you a high but later on when you get home, the rush feeling fades and left with more clutter! Especially clothes
Enjoyed every single word. I only wish I found minimalism 30 years ago! My husband and I are both 58 and let’s just say it’s never too late. I also fantasize about living in a tiny home.😂Keep up the great work, you are so incredibly inspiring!❤️
My husband has basically said the same thing to me over the past year too. He was happy I was decluttering, but he knew I’d replace what I decluttered with new items. I’m finally ready to start letting everything go and I have zero desire to replace any of it. My anxiety recently had reached an all time high and I just felt like I was drowning in stuff. It was starting to affect all aspects of my life. I’ve had a major shift in my mindset and my minimalism journey has officially started. I already feel lighter and less anxious. It’s wonderful❤
I love all your videos but girl this one is my most favorite!!! This video was straight facts. I used to be a consumer of all things up until maybe about a year or so ago when I had an eye opener. I experience a shift in careers that came with a huge pay cut and also racked up around 30k in consumer debt based off bad spending habits, and job loss. I do still have some debt but I’m so much more better off than where I started and now I only spend my money on things or experiences that are important to me❤❤
Aww thank you so much! I’ve been thinking about these ideas for a while now and I was so glad I got time to put them all together in this video ❤️ thanks so much for sharing your journey😍❤️❤️
Thank you so much for that talk! You are so right! I fell for all that stuff for so long! I’m doing much better now. I’ve decluttered about 80% of my stuff and our house and lives are much more simple and manageable. ❤❤❤😘 hugs Becky!
As a minimalist, the one minimalist subculture I despise are the ones who constantly churn their possessions. Small footprint, yet with huge ecological footprint. Your husband had a point.
Great video Becky! I have just discovered your videos and you are very inspiring. I have been on my minimalist journey for several years and am very close to where I want to be but have been "stuck", but your videos are getting me "unstuck" again. 😊 Thank you for the inspiration and honesty. All the best to you.
I still enjoy shopping, but I have learned to do more looking than actual buying & I have learned that I can like something or think something is beautiful without having to have it in my home.
Thank you so much for sharing ❤️ i 💯 agree! I can go out shopping with my Mom and not fear because I have enough self control to know I don’t need something which is such an empowering feeling 👏😍 Thanks so much for watching ❤️
The cars I know we need them but the cost has reached unbelievable levels. We bought a used Honda crv. Great car!!!! Will never buy any other make. I see how the western world judges us by what we drive. School drop offs, gym, work etc. I just ignore although I think for the millennials it’s harder I am nearing 60 so I don’t care lol. Love your channel ❤
Seriously! I mean I’m just not willing to get another car until this one just falls apart completely (hopefully I have a few more years even with this lemon) Thanks so much for sharing ❤️❤️
Your words resonated with me! “You’re spending money to present yourself to others in a certain way but what do YOU want to do?” Thanks for the reminder that everything has more than a monetary value. 💚
❤ Thank you so much for this video. I needed to hear this. I have been recently accused by my partner of decluttering and recluttering and I see that this has been true. I am glad I am not the only one to fall into this trap and glad that if you fell in once I know I can get out of it like you have. You are an inspiration ❤
Hi Becky, as usual you have honed in on the important things that can help us to lead a more minimal, simple, contented and yet rich life. I hope that your channel and your insights filter through to many more people as there is so much unhappiness and struggle in many people's lives because they get caught in these consumerism traps. I have had a tendency to criticise capitalism and you have made me realise all that I can be grateful for.❤
Thanks friend! Minimalism is the best thing I’ve ever done for myself and my family ❤️❤️ it has taught me so much and I continue to learn new things all the time 🤗
I enjoyed this so much. Absolutely spot on!! I am in the middle of deciding to keep or go, and your words of wisdom just gave me the tools. Thank you! ❤

Where we live isn’t zoned for tiny homes either we would have to move much further out from my husbands work which would have its own added struggles but I long for one, one day ❤️❤️
Great video ❤ I am lucky enough to be able to buy a new car outright if I wanted to, however I continue to drive my 2006 Honda Civic I've had for 14 years. The air conditioning has been broken for years, the paint is faded, and it has rust spots 😅 but it's reliable, the mileage is low for its age, and it drives like a dream, so I can't justify getting rid of it just to get something shiny and new. Especially with the crazy prices of cars 🇨🇦 these days 😊. I sometimes wonder if the other parents at my daughter's school are judging me based on my old car but 🤷♀️ it's my money/life not theirs
I'm new to your videos and just watched this one. Thank you ❤for all the advice on helping better our lives. I'm on my decluttering journey and am slowly letting things go I no longer need. I've always had a bad habit of buying things for the sake of it and thinking it was bringing me joy.
The greatest source of discontentment for me is our home. It’s an older home, not super updated. I would love a newer looking home with light spaces like grays/whites/light browns. It’s a constant battle.
I'm so sorry! We still have lots of places I would like to update but we have to do it slow because of time and finances. We do everything ourselves so we are lucky to be able to save in that way but I totally understand what you are saying ❤️❤️
I was where you are now. I had gotten rid of so much. My husband was on board with all I was doing. I thought our 1,100 square foot home was too big for just the two of us and living tiny seemed great. Then his dad died and we moved into a garage apartment behind his mom’s house to help her of she needed it. She was 89 and now she is 95 and we are still here. Our apartment is 320 square feet. I’m pretty over wishing to live tiny. I would love to rearrange my furniture. And have room to set in a different chair. We are here and it is good to be close and help her live in her own house. Someday we both would like 600 to 800 square feet to live in.
That is such a blessing for her that you can be there for your MIL ❤️ I think I could do really small if we had some beautiful land we could be outside on a lot. I think 600-800 is probably more reasonable especially with our climate in Virginia. Thanks for sharing! It got me thinking ❤️
Very well expressed!! Had to view it a couple of times to get everything. Very inspirational, very thoughtful, and very well presented. Thank you for making me think. ❤️

I'm so sorry! We still have lots of places I would like to update but we have to do it slow because of time and finances. We do everything ourselves so we are lucky to be able to save in that way but I totally understand what you are saying ❤️❤️
I'm where you are. It's so hard to make a dark outdated flat work with my minimalist esthetic. I feel you.❤
I was where you are now.
