    22 weeks = Army seems to merge their basic training with tech school/schoolhouse. As a recruiter explained it to my daughter, it seems like you go straight from basic training into your MOS training I think

    • @mchistorian1079
      @mchistorian1079 Год назад +2

      No, that’s just for OSUT (One Stop Unit Training). Only Infantry and a few other MOS’s have it. Basically it’s doing basic training and AIT (Advanced Individual Training) (basically job training) all at the same location, with the same unit, and with the same drill sergeants. It’s split between 9 weeks of basic training, and then 13 weeks of AIT training. “Tech School” is what the Air Force calls their Job training btw. But again, OSUT is only unique to infantry and a few other MOS’s like Combat Engineer and Military Police. Most other Jobs in the Army will require a trainee to do the 9 week basic training at one base like Fort Jackson, Fort Sill, or Fort Leonard Wood etc and then fly to a completely different base in another state for AIT training, With OSUT you just don’t go no where at all. 😂

My parents saw me eating like cold raviolis or cold cold tacos from a spoon looking at me like I am nuts. I never had the chance to try out the heating packet so had to figure that thing out. I’ll take an mre over getting ravaged in the chow hall 90% of the time. That was always when they were at the worst because you’re comfortable.

    I was in the Army infantry during the early Vietnam period (1964-1967), so that makes me a dinosaur. At that time, we did 8 weeks of basic and 8 weeks of advanced infantry training (AIT). From the looks of this video, and from what I've heard from younger generations of vets, Army basic has lightened up quite a bit. At the same time, modern soldiers are far better trained and more well-rounded than we were. Army basic back in the day was a lot cruder and was much closer to what the Marine Corps still provides. Some of this may have to do with the entry of women to the combat arms. Then again, the Army then was filled with draftees, and the infantry was filled with an even rougher bunch of cannon fodder. It should also be recalled that one was treated more roughly because you had to get in shape fairly fast for a pretty dirty war (not that Iraq and Afghanistan were less of a trial). My hats off to all of you who serve.

    • @Jodywithawhy
      @Jodywithawhy  Год назад +4

      My first job was Electrical and Environmental systems specialist (2A6X6). I did that for the first 6 years basically fixing plane’s electrical problems. I liked but wanted to get an indoor job.
      I switched to Geospatial Analyst (1N1X1A) and did that for about 3 years. I basically looked at images and videos all day and analyzed them. I’m a people person so I changed careers again.
      Got into recruiting and did that in Cedar Rapids, IA for about 3 years. Loved it so much I became a recruiting instructor and now I teach new recruiters how to do their job.

I don’t need to use my asthma inhaler and I heard they do asthma test if you pass you can qualify for a waiver but every recruiter I talk to just gives up on me once they find out I have asthma. Army’s basic training is 9 weeks, Red Phase, White Phase, and then Blue Phase are all 3 weeks each in BMT, For infantry they have OSUT(One Stop Unit Training) so they stay an extra 13 weeks for their AIT (job training). So in all it’s 22 weeks, combining the 9 week basic training with the 13 week AIT training.

      You will need to present that information at MEPS, then present another copy during Reception. They will do the research. There are some shots that are non-negotiable. What tends to happen is, some recruits have never been vaccinated in life, so they will have to add more shots to the list. This will create a delay in you being sent downrange to basic training. Some shots are military grade and only given to members.

They also have higher standards than the army. I'm personally gonna try and enlist in the air force for a cyber job.
