Hey everyone. If you’re interested in joining the Air Force, I created a “Joining the Air Force” Starter pack playlist. Hopefully this helps you in your decision making.

Depends on how old you are now, and what your criminal and alcohol history was like after this incident. If it’s been 2-3 years or more and you’ve been a saint, this can be approved. But you’d first have to find a recruiter who’s willing to work it.

@@Jodywithawhy currently still 19 but just speaking everything into existence. I hope my recruiter is as driven as you because I’m really overthinking everything. I don’t even want to look at alcohol because of what it could’ve caused me...

I hear ya. That’s good though. Remember to stay like that, and then a year after the incident try to join. Your recruiter may say it’s too early, or they may try to see what happens.

Hey, Sarge. I was an ANG recruiter in the late 70s. I had a kid who wanted to be a PJ. He interviewed with the PJ NCOIC, ASVAB tested, took the physical abilities test, passed his physical, and we got his orders cut for the pipeline. About 2 weeks before he was due to leave for Lackland, he asks me if that offense (I can't remember what it was) was going to be a problem.
    "What offense, Mr. X?"
"The blah blah when I was a kid."
I felt like the ground was going to open up. The senior recruiter looked at me with one of those "You moron" looks and shook his head. Turns out he had disqualified the guy a year before, and didn't tell me.
I called CBPO and the NCOIC there guided me on what needed to be done. The kid had to get a letter signed by a judge, I believe it was to show the kids had learned his lesson, to submit along with a request for waiver. He got the letter, and I submitted the waiver. The senior recruiter said it probably wasn't going to be approved.
I moved on left the unit after my enlistment was up. About a year later, my then wife and I were at an air show. I turned around for some reason, there was the kid - in 1550s, jump boots, jump and aircrew wings and maroon beret. He was working, but he shook my hand and said "Thanks." I hope he had a great career and helped folks who needed it.

And pretty much said everyone would know but I think he's just worried about his reputation on who signed a waiver for me I'm looking to have a chance I'm 30 years old and I know this is something I truly would like to do.

I walked into the recruiters office about 2 months ago with 11b in mind and I didn't really care where I went as long as it was a change of scenery. My army recruiter has been super honest from the get go letting me know that with my wrist surgery we just have to be honest and up front and we can get it approved. He sent in my packets 3 times before I was approved to phys at MEPS. Went to MEPS the first time and they lost my packet due to the GENESIS thing going on. Went my second time a few weeks later and passed first try actually getting to phys. Signed my contract the same day and swore in. Best part is I got a bonus and a guaranteed Germany duty station attached with it. Keep being that honest and hardworking recruiter. Currently waiting on my waiver from the Air Force for an OCD/Anxiety diagnosis with a few medications for it from age 9 to about 16. 25 now with a wife and two kids, it was submitted last week and my recruiter said we can expect to hear back next Friday. Aside from that there's nothing major or recent in my medical record and I submitted a very detailed statement, my medical and pharmacy records documenting the condition, and a letter from my employer stating I do not have any work accommodations. I'm really hoping that being off medications and symptom free for almost ten years helps get me that waiver because my wife and I are so excited and set on the Air Force and most of my family have been in the branch. I honestly think it was a misdiagnosis as my parents got trigger happy with the tricare at a young age. My recruiter is in good hopes so keeping my fingers crossed.

This is an awesome story and Myriah is so lucky to have found a recruiter to help her out! I see that you've been bombarded with questions and I feel guilty for throwing another one at you, but I can't find any information on this. I had a DUI 6.5 years ago when I was 23. That's the only thing on my record ever. Now I'm just shy of 30, finished my bachelor's degree in 2019, and I've been a small business owner the past 3 years (I'm a home inspector). While I was in my early 20's I maintained stable employment at a restaurant as a manager (2013-2019). I understand that the DUI may be waiverable, but do you think there's any hope for me joining the AF as an officer? I'm just starting the process of reaching out to a recruiter, but I want to be prepared if it isn't feasible.

Awesome story. Happy to see you got her in. This video actually gave me motivation to seek reenlisting in the service again.
Backstory. Prior Service Army Veteran “Active Duty”. Was a victim of a sexual rape & assault by a NCO within my chain of command, FTR for 3 days “grounds for administrative discharge.” Had a General Discharge under Honorable Conditions in 2017.
Soon as I got out I did not get any guidance for help or treatment which unfortunately lead to me getting charged with Forgery & Impersonation in 2018. After that happen it seemed like everyone helped me get back on the path and narrow who I once was when I enlisted. Had my County VSO “veteran service officer” Director send my packet for upgrading my DD-214 to Honorable. ADRB “Army Discharge Review Board” granted the upgrade to Honorable given the unique nature of my situation. “5-years later we got that decision”
Fast forward to 2022. I was released early by the judge from veterans mental health probation completion “5-year sentence shaved down to 2.5 Years,” completed behavioral health treatment, currently on no medication as well been working for state government for the past 3 years. Have my honorable discharge and even have a letter of reenlistment recommendation from my County VSO Director.
I am working with a Air Force National Guard Recruiter now. I will know a decision after Thanksgiving if my charges “Forgery & Impersonation” are waiverable. She was unsure cause it’s unique case but said that being it’s non-violent & Non-Drug Related it’s in my favor. Her flight commander will give a yes or no answer if we can do the waiver not. Any insight if they are currently waiverable? From video it looks like they are. I was robbed from my first enlistment and want to server my country again. I’m hoping for a miracle. But hopefully you have some strong insight on this given ur background. The Tsgt Woman Recruiter I’m working with is definitely open to helping me out and feels for my Situation.

Really appreciate you covering the waiver process, and loving your channel content so far! It's so encouraging to see a recruiter willing to go the distance (: I'm in the process of trying to enlist, but ran into an issue with my DTI ratio potentially disqualifying me from jobs requiring top security clearance. Have you had experience/success in the realm of financial waivers? Or would it be alright if I could contact you directly for perspective on my situation?

    • @Jodywithawhy
      @Jodywithawhy  3 года назад +2

Thanks for watching. So I’ve had financial waivers done before and if you come with the DTI over 40% you won’t be qualified for top secret clearances. But if you were to get the DTI under 40%, you could potentially become eligible for those jobs. I hope that helps.

Hey Jody, can you make a video on going over debt? I am trying to join, and up until recently I have found out if you have like an insane amount of credit card debt or certain type of debt like in collections that it may prevent you from joining. I was just hoping you can make a video covering all things in regards to debts and credit scores if that makes sense. Like maybe certain waivers or payment plans that can help you join regardless of debt? I hope that makes sense also lol.
I’m sure there is a lot of people with questions like that in regards to the enlisting process with the recruiter so i know it would be a great video for your channel.

I tried with the Marines for a few years and kept getting rejected but I finally found an AF recruiter willing to help me. I’m praying I get the same end results as her 🤞🏽 is there any tips or advice on what I can do to help my case? I’m currently working on getting on 100 letters of recommendation, my idea not my recruiters, I haven’t told him yet. And I’ll start working on getting everything else you mentioned in the video from the state im from, I only have my criminal record as of now, juvenile to last offense. That’s awesome. I’m glad I could give you the motivation you need. I would recommend you write a letter explaining what happened, why it happened, why it won’t happen again and why you deserve a chance in the Air Force. Gather all the records and any letter of recommendations. 100 may be too much. Lol. I would say like 2-4. Also if you have any major medical history, gather the records for that stuff too. That way your recruiter can have everything they need upfront. This will make you look non top of your stuff, and the recruiter will be more appreciative to work with you. Good luck. 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽

i've seen folks get in on waivers but getting a security clearance is a whole different story, even if your record was expunged JPAS will still find it. What a lot of people don't know is if you get busted you are automatically assigned a FBI number even if you got an expungement or the case you were found not guilty. I knew a guy that had a simple possesion charge for weed, they found a roach in his ash tray but since it was a first offense he was able to get it expunged but later while active duty he couldn't obtain a clearance and had to get new MOS training and be reaasigned another job.

    • @Jodywithawhy
