I just graduated 2 days ago and it was great to watch a recap of everything my flight and I went through. I watched your videos for several months before joining and it definitely helped me go in with a good mindset. I was much more prepared than most of my wingmen and that gave me the opportunity to help them through the process.
I knew I should have joined the Air Force! But no I had to be a hard head and join the Marine Corps where we carried our rifle with us pretty much 10 of the 12 weeks if boot camp. And why would u have wanted to sleep in that hut with ac/heat instead of sleeping in a sleeping bag in the ground in a shelter half in the rain!!! I went through boot camp from September 8, 1992 to December 4, 1992 at Parris Island. The difference is more than night and day. But you have to have different for different services. When it comes down to it, We ALL basically signed a blank check for up losing our lives. One thing I can say is every chance I got to eat at an Air Force chow hall I sure did. They had great food! Semper Fi from an old Marine

The videos are long, but I hear that they're pretty accurate! Thank you for all you do - I don't know when I'll be leaving yet, but I know I'll be prepared by watching your helpful content!
Thanks for the tip on 5:48! I was getting really low reps by doing situps with shoulder blades touching the ground and all the way to elbows touching your knees. I was getting mixed information on this but you clarified it for us. Thank you!
I just went through BMT in June-August. 323TRS, MUSTANGS! It was quite the experience, especially being an older trainee at 24 years old. I met, spoke with, and go to know many of the people in this very video. Col. Pixley(a genuine guy that seems to really care about Trainees, TSgt Dodson an MTI that struck a healthy fear into everyone of us in the 323rd but she also had our respect and showed she cared about our success, and even the CATM Instructor Mr. Brown who was horrible btw and perhaps the most toxic and unprofessional man I have met so far in the Air Force. I've made it through my Technical Training, also in Wichita Falls, AMMO! I have arrived at my first Duty Station and have absolutely loved my experience so far in the World's Greatest Air Force.

I've been watching your videos to help hone as much as I can, so far feeling very confident for the ASVAB and PT. Literally just getting the body fat percentage where it needs to be, and it's go time. Thank you for making videos like this.

Here you go from a guy who went through Basic Training 56 years ago. I went through Aug- Nov of 1967. Basic was 6 weeks long. We were housed in WW Il wooden barracks, individual rooms. Pt was done in leather combat boots, jumping Jack's and a 1 mile run. Two days of rifle training, drill and a lot of classroom training. No graduation ceremony, finish basic and on the bus to your next school.
Thanks for your channel, your content and your service!!! I went through basic (1976) and missed honor grad by one point. Then, four years later I retrained into Law Enforcement. Which at the time was a brand new AFSC not under Security Police. But the training was according to Security Police doctrines and standards. The training was brutal! Then they "Volunteered" me for ABGD....The Air Force's version of combat infantry. That was short but just as painful. I graduated #4 from the Police Academy. From then on there were seemingly endless FTX's and real-world field deployment. It was an endless state of Police Academy and ABGD level training all the time.
They started integrating AF with Army training back in 2007ish moreso while I was in. I had many guys in AF I knew who had to to go deploy with Army units and get more of this kind of training.
Yea about that, the "integration training" resulted in AF personnel still not (according the MAJ who was the OIC with a Technical Sergeant from the AF) able to leave the wire. Both AF fellas I worked with were awesome but their "boss" wouldn't allow them to leave the wire so we got creative to make it happen. Circa 2009 AFG with CJ-SOTF-A.
I was watching you before i enlisted cause i was tryna compared navy and the Air Force now been in the navy for 8 months but still watching your channel keep it up sir
I went through in December 1975. We only handled the M-16 at the class room and the firing range. I scored 80 out of 80 at the range. 20 rounds fired at each position. Our TI had a big thing about the "heel beat". When we were marching and getting in sync, our heel beat became very loud and distinct. If he couldn't hear our heel beat, he would start screaming at us.
I am LOL over your comment about still being scared of the TIs. When i went through the ANG Recruiter course, I was E-5, and I still got nervous around the TI showing us through the BMT dorms.
Outstanding presentation. No doubt the first couplie of weeks give information overload. My Basic in the Army during Vietnam era was not tougher than this.
Hey Jody, can you make a video on going over debt? I am trying to join, and up until recently I have found out if you have like an insane amount of credit card debt or certain type of debt like in collections that it may prevent you from joining. I was just hoping you can make a video covering all things in regards to debts and credit scores if that makes sense. Like maybe certain waivers or payment plans that can help you join regardless of debt? I hope that makes sense also lol. I’m sure there is a lot of people with questions like that in regards to the enlisting process with the recruiter so i know it would be a great video for your channel. Thank you for all your videos. Very very helpful.
Chair force the best force, we just have to embrace it. Our battle is not exactly on the front lines, but we’ll support our troops dropping 500lb GBU-12s out the sky all day, er day😤
This was good. Graduated BMT Jun 13, 2001. I remember warrior week. We didn’t have explosives but it felt real enough to me. My friend who is a MTI I just had the opportunity to reenlist (I spent 15 years enlisted before commissioning). I got a chance to meet CMSgt Gaitan he’s pretty dope…and I’m still scared of MTIs even when they are my friends 😂.
I still remember Sgt Ang from BEAST week! He was cool enough to talk to me and another guy about our jobs during that week. Now me and the other airman are still good friends.
I’m shipping out to bmt in January. I’ve been working on this since December of 2020 & it’s right around the corner. I pray for the strength, wisdom, the support system I need to make it through & begin a new chapter I’m so excited to start.
Ayeee. Congratulations. You got this. It will go by so quick, but you’ll learn so much. When you graduate let us know, so we can congratulate you again. 🙌🏽🙌🏽
@@vicyttt it’s more than what I’d thought it’d be. It’s definitely a challenge but it’s definitely more mental than physical even though it doesn’t seem like it. So much has changed for me during the service. I love my base and my husband and I are expecting a baby in 2 weeks. It wasn’t easy going through tech school pregnant but my wingman helped me out so much & they are 1 of the main reasons I’m considering extending after my contract is up. All I can do now is pay it forward & give back to other airman who are in need.
It’s shortened again. It was 8.5 weeks when I was an MTI back in 2010-2014 (Retired 2014). Ever since 2008, the curriculum has changed to an Airman Warrior concept. 5:47 326TRS, that was my squadron as an MTI.
I went to Lackland in the mid-80's and barely graduated. There's no doubt that I would've been kicked out had Basic Training being like this back then. Even though I was a "screw up" in the Air Force and they couldn't get rid of me fast enough, I still love it and think it is the best branch of our military. Aim High Airmen!
thank you for all the information whatever your dropping im picking up right away im 20 and im going to join the air force and i like to learn any and everything 💯
In the 80's, it was 6 weeks and there was film as in projector film that we had to watch called, "The Fastest 6 Weeks." NO PT uniform existed and no backpacks existed. All PT in black Combat Boots that you had to spend hours polishing.
Making me excited to go BMT as soon as I can. Also, for the whole tap out part of the graduation, what if the individual doesn’t really have anyone that can go to their graduation?
Graduated 23 Sep 2021! @6:45 Meals are ten minutes, "mandatory" minimum. Once in awhile in later weeks it might go a bit longer, but the MTI's aren't supposed to cut it much shorter than ten. Still definitely yell to hurry up though
I did AFROTC back in 2016 and I was dead set on being a battlefield airman, that's what they called it back then, now it's special warfare airman I think. Anyway, I did one semester before I was told that I couldnt continue with the program because I have tattoos on my fingers and on my neck. I was super disappointed and bitter about it for years. Now, after seeing that my life has gone no where, working dead end job after job, going through life like if I'm waiting for something...anything to happen I decided I can't keep doing this and maybe that's what re-sparked my interest in the Air Force. I'm getting my tattoos lasered off, I'm gunna train, I'm gunna run, and I'm gunna swim cuz I still really want to be in special warfare. PJ, CCT, SR, TACP, I don't care, they're all kinda the same and I'd be super happy to land any one. I went to the offical site and says that the cut off age is 39 meaning I still plenty of time to get back at it and suceed this time around. Great vid btw.
I love your channel sooo muchhhh , you are soooo humorous, you took me out when you started commenting on the gear , " 15 degreess. H*** nawww bout 45 "
Hey Jody, love your videos. I’ve been working on losing weight for 3 months now to meet the maximum requirement to join. Went from 235 to 217. I’m struggling now to get down to the 214 that is required. Will the training regiment provided by the AF DEP app help me get the last few pounds? I’m hoping to make weight by the end of this month to pass MEPS!
It can help, but I think using that will take sometime. Dieting is super important so you have to watch what you eat, especially with the holidays approaching. I’d recommend you look RUclips videos about dieting, exercise and weight loss plateaus. That’ll help you for your next step. I hope this helps. 🤙🏽
I went through Lackland summer camp in June of 1971 and like many I believed our instructors were scary and tough, no, they are just actors and doing a fair job at it. If I knew now what I knew then I'd laugh at them.
Definitely much different than it was back in 1990. During my 20 years, there was noticeable change in the knowledge and abilities of the new Airmen coming out of BMT. I definitely think what is being taught now makes the newest generation of Airmen more complete when they leave BMT. Glad to see the Bulldogs are still around though, for me it was the 3708 TRS. Yeah, I'm old now. LOL ... but I would not trade those 20 years for anything.
Jody, I just stumbled on your video and reaction about the USAF basic. As you know, during Afghanistan and Iraq at the same time, the military response and personnel were very stretched as time went on. There needed to be many gaps filled by military branches not geared particularly for that role. Therefore, the Air Force and Coast Guard have expanded basic training to include more weapons and tactical training. The Army and Marines had been stretched to capacity during those campaigns. I remembered an incentive program called "Blue to Green" that offered Air Force personnel to switch branches to the Army to keep up with Army security and patrols. Even though the Coast Guard (another teased branch, "Puddle Pirates") already had much security training, they ramped up weapons and tactics training too besides the already highly established security response teams.
Lol, but "the village" was rad. All the explosions and shooting you hear are basically potato cannons. They even figured out how to mount one to an ATV, and during CBRN, the instructors would drive around the camps and mock an attack, like we were being raided by vehicles, making us all hit the deck. In the dang mopp gear
I am currently sitting in the hotel waiting for 4 am. to get up and go to meps and get my flight ticket. The hardest part was leaving my daughter. But i am genuinely excited as hell.
I graduated basic training in Nov 1971. It was nothing like this is now. We were in the green machine, get 'em out as fast as possible. Chairforce...I never saw a chair once I got into the field. That is where I saw the real air force and it was just as challenging as any other branch of the military but required generally more technical education. We had the top 30% of ASVAB to work with. We may not have the reputation of being the greatest generation, we were veterans of Vietnam. We were damn good and damn proud of it.
Six weeks / Lackland in '77. Unless you had a job related to carry a firearm (which the majority of AF folks did not), one could qualify with M-16 in basic and never touch a firearm again. Security Police folks subsequently went over to Air Base Ground Defense at Camp Bullis, which looks somewhat like the 'cool' stuff that extra week of boot camp provides now. Oh, and we did PT in OD green fatigues and combat boots. There was no such thing as PT gear back then.
I always wondered what the Boyscouts of America went through to get their merit badges. Someday, these fine scouts might even consider joining the military. All jokes aside, awesome video.
BMTS 3723/FLT035 back in ‘83.The basic training Lackland BLUES!It was 6 weeks of MTI’s YELLING-YELLING & FINALLY YELLING!!! Overall a good experience 🇺🇸👍Now give me a 341 AIRMEN!!!
I went through BMT in July 1976. I remember they had on flag poles a banner which pertained to weather temp and a Black Flag was basically- can't do anything outside. And hating people who smoked- they were given like 10 minute smoke break- whilst if you didn't smoke- rest of airmen had to stay in formation. I do remember- I didn't end up doing a final PT Test, the obstacle course and I never shot a rifle- since for some reason I was recovering from an illness at Wilford Hall. Then after graduation- which I didn't attend- stayed for up to a week in different barracks waiting for tech school bus/orders to Sheppard (for Disbursement Accounting Specialist- Mil Pay)- where I ended up being a Red Rope. I miss the tan uniforms but can live with or without the... Green Fatigues.
I hear ya. I don’t think it will change anytime soon, but you never know how these things go. Keep grinding and let us know when you get in. I wanna congratulate you bro. 🤙🏽
First PT, Jody. When I was there, the Di got us up and marched us to the main parade deck, 16 acres, called The Grinder. He told us to run around the field. I raised my hand, requested to speak, and asked how long we should run. He put his cover on my forehead and said, "Until you drop private. Until you drop."
Hey boss I love your cool demeanor and now as a 35 year old I’m thinking of joining.. I hope their more cool cats in the airforce like you and your videos have been helpful for sure even got the app… and idk why you pad use my dude at 6:28 like that 😂 but had me cracking up have a blessed one & thanks for your service 🫡
I’m hoping my channel can help you along the way. Good luck with everything and I appreciate your support. And I don’t know what I was on when making this video. Lol. He didn’t deserve that.
I’m leaving to BMT on the 23rd of this month. I’m going to MEPS before that day to say my last oath, and kiss my ass goodbye to Cali. Hoping to see some new opportunities ahead of time in the Air Force.
Just hit the 32 year anniversary of my arrival at Lackland 2 days ago. There was some shady stuff going on and at least one TI got booted for some inappropriate behavior, ahem. Buck Sgt Julie Begley, later CMSgt of the training squadron was the best!
They’re not that bad honestly. Just a bunch of yelling. But once you understand it’s literally their job to yell, it doesn’t feel personal anymore. Just prepare yourself well, and it should be a breeze. Good luck on the journey bro. 🤙🏽

Basic Training/BMT has one goal: get you out of your comfort zone, become self sufficient, learn to adjust on the fly, get away from dependence on mommy and daddy making up for your mistakes.
The only combat training we got was firing a M16 100 rounds. Not being showed what to do if it jammed. I did sit in a chair all day. During Vietnam the air force bases were guarded by USMC or army with a perimeter around the base. Then you had air force SPs guarding the base. They didn't give us weapons until after the enemy broke through the SPs. by then it was too late. The USAF and Army Air Force has probably killed more people than the rest of the services combined
Yea I caught it. And it didn’t register at first. Then I was like wait a minute….🧐. It’s crazy how disrespectful they were and how open about it they were.
Sad I can’t join the AF anymore due to a co-sign that the person in question doesn’t want to help me get off of. 5 months since I told him to and he’s done nothing . I felt bad for my recruiter since I gone thru everything and MEPS just to be stuck not swearing in . Sucks but I still love the videos !

It’s shortened again. It was 8.5 weeks when I was an MTI back in 2010-2014 (Retired 2014). Ever since 2008, the curriculum has changed to an Airman Warrior concept. 5:47 326TRS, that was my squadron as an MTI.
I was in BMT in 2014!! Also 326! I got put a few years ago and now my husband is joining!
So much of this reminds me of Army basic training. Love the Warrior Airman mindset.
I don’t think people should be calling the Air Force the chair force is very disrespectful to people who serve in it and have served in it and died
well its just a friendly competition between the branches and we call each other worse than "chair force"
our feelings are not hurt very easily.
This all makes sense now, worked once with AF and walked away with so many questions. This answers them all.
I don’t feel like that’s a good thing. Lol
Why you pause on me like that? 🤣 Great vídeo 💪🏻❤️
Is that you??? Lol. If so, I didn’t realize until I was editing. 😂😂😂😂. My bad bro
Yeah it’s me 😂 Don’t worry, we are wingman’s now!
Leaving for Basic on Nov. 22nd I gotta say I'm feeling nervous and excited and the same time.
That’s normal. You got this. Good luck at basic. When you graduate let us know so we can congratulate you. 🤙🏽
@@Jodywithawhy Will do! About to head to my recruiter one last time before checking in to the hotel for MEPS next morning.
Just graduated yesterday!! Bout to head for my tech school!
Aye congrats. Let’s gooo. 🤙🏽🤙🏽
@@jayzarj7054 how was it?
thank you for all the information whatever your dropping im picking up right away im 20 and im going to join the air force and i like to learn any and everything 💯
Ayeeee. Well I do appreciate the support and I’m glad I could help. Good luck with the process 🙌🏽🙌🏽.
In the 80's, it was 6 weeks and there was film as in projector film that we had to watch called, "The Fastest 6 Weeks." NO PT uniform existed and no backpacks existed. All PT in black Combat Boots that you had to spend hours polishing.
Wooow this is beautiful!! I love it
Thank you so much. I really appreciate that.
Making me excited to go BMT as soon as I can. Also, for the whole tap out part of the graduation, what if the individual doesn’t really have anyone that can go to their graduation?
Usually people in your flt will figure out who doesn’t have anyone coming, and someone in your flt will tap you out :)
Emily is correct. Your flight will take care of you.
Graduated 23 Sep 2021! @6:45 Meals are ten minutes, "mandatory" minimum. Once in awhile in later weeks it might go a bit longer, but the MTI's aren't supposed to cut it much shorter than ten. Still definitely yell to hurry up though
Thanks for this. Good info. 🙌🏽🙌🏽
@@Jodywithawhy Why is it such a hurry to eat?
😂😂😂. They tried to make it sound good. Them things hot as h***. Lol.
Your channel helped me a lot, now im in DEP, ill start bmt nov 7th. Thanks a lot
Congrats. Glad I could help you along the process. 🙌🏽🙌🏽
Love your style!
Thank you so much. 🙌🏽🙌🏽
That’s awesome. We didn’t have that when I went through. Sounds pretty cool.
I am currently sitting in the hotel waiting for 4 am. to get up and go to meps and get my flight ticket. The hardest part was leaving my daughter. But i am genuinely excited as hell.
Felicitaciones para todos Los Airman Dios los brndiga
Oh wow. No PT gear. That’s wild. I bet those were the times though. Thank you for your service. 🤙🏽
Been waiting for this. Thank you
No problem at all. 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽. I actually liked doing it. Gotta get a little more comfortable doing it, but it was fun.
I always wondered what the Boyscouts of America went through to get their merit badges. Someday, these fine scouts might even consider joining the military.
All jokes aside, awesome video.
I’m convinced the winter becomes your best friend during bmt
I did 12 years in the Marines. I have several friends and family that were Air Force. When I showed them this, all they could do was a 'face palm".
My squadron was the last one to not have families at graduation. It was the most fun you never wanna have again. 433 TRS
19:48 where’s her cover? 😂😂💀 That’s embarrassing. I thought i was seeing things at first had to double check & whoops
BMTS 3723/FLT035 back in ‘83.The basic training Lackland BLUES!It was 6 weeks of MTI’s YELLING-YELLING & FINALLY YELLING!!! Overall a good experience 🇺🇸👍Now give me a 341 AIRMEN!!!
Amen! The French toast at Lackland was 🔥FLT 275- 2020.
I love your videos. The comments are so funny. 😂
French toast is still there, and still the best. 👌👌
Ayeee. That stuff was grade A
I leave for basic 2/1/22 and this helped to give me an idea of what to expect. I’m going in as an older recruit 😅 so it should be interesting,
I’m glad I could help. Good luck on your journey. 🙌🏽🙌🏽

Same bruh
You should do a video for Air Force Officer Training School
Yo been waiting on a video boss man, grinding tryn to make weight to go active duty at 36 lord please don’t let them change the age limit

You did that boy dirty while he was eating 🤣
Is that CC Gordon..lol😂. It’s Session, if you remeber me from USMA prep #Bastogne ( if I spelled that correctly) 😊
My husband is 34 and is about to leave for BMT!
My dad was an instructor at Lackland. I grew up going to work with him and chasing jack rabbits on base
I’m leaving to BMT on the 23rd of this month. I’m going to MEPS before that day to say my last oath, and kiss my ass goodbye to Cali. Hoping to see some new opportunities ahead of time in the Air Force.
Ayeee congratulations and good luck in basic. 🙌🏽🙌🏽
Just hit the 32 year anniversary of my arrival at Lackland 2 days ago. There was some shady stuff going on and at least one TI got booted for some inappropriate behavior, ahem.
Buck Sgt Julie Begley, later CMSgt of the training squadron was the best!
I'm leaving for basic tomorrow 😂
Ayeeee. Congrats and good luck. You got this. Let us know when you graduate. 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Beast week looks fun
Im thinking about joining in a while.. im 32 yrs old now. Just nervous bout the MTIs in basic but ima try my best to not forget anything.
They’re not that bad honestly. Just a bunch of yelling. But once you understand it’s literally their job to yell, it doesn’t feel personal anymore. Just prepare yourself well, and it should be a breeze. Good luck on the journey bro. 🤙🏽
@@Jodywithawhy yeah like entering chow hall. I dont wanna slip. Ima professional as i am now i worked in fine dining restaurants and am a massage therapist now. So i totally understand the professionalsm il need to present my self. Including not forgetting the language. In fine dining a hint of that exist u gotta speak a proper language and not slip on that so I can bring a maximum style effort to whatever i do. Im thinking intel career.
Altho all my mistakes will be learning lessons. But il try my best when they put me on the spot to not forget anything lol
He was referring to the other branches that their way of life is shity lol. “It’s easier to sit on a chair then a rock”.
Im 90% sure that's where my dad went for basic in the air force
Basic Training/BMT has one goal: get you out of your comfort zone, become self sufficient, learn to adjust on the fly, get away from dependence on mommy and daddy making up for your mistakes.
they gave us “10” minutes to eat. and they do still have the french toast. throw some peanut butter and syrup and u got u one yhere.
Lol. Ayeee. Things don’t change. Lol
My son went to boot camp at the height of Covid. Bummer. We only got to see him graduate virtual. 😷
haha, I only got the eggs one time at lackland- the first breakfast, never again. everything else was so good back in the end of 07
The only combat training we got was firing a M16 100 rounds.
A lot has changed since 1986. It’s an experience that stays with you though.
Ha yes BMT still has the famous french toast and peanut butter. Currently in Tech School.
Ayeeee. That stuff was good. Just hard to eat in 60 seconds. Lol
lmao im glad you caught that "pretty arms" because I watched you go over that like :o is he gonna say something or what hahaha
Yea I caught it. And it didn’t register at first. Then I was like wait a minute….🧐. It’s crazy how disrespectful they were and how open about it they were.
I just graduated last week and Sergeant Ang was an instructor in my squadron.
5:18 oo oo ohooo 😂😂
Sad I can’t join the AF anymore due to a co-sign that the person in question doesn’t want to help me get off of. 5 months since I told him to and he’s done nothing . I felt bad for my recruiter since I gone thru everything and MEPS just to be stuck not swearing in . Sucks but I still love the videos !
Ahh man. Have you sought legal advice, or is there nothing you can do?
DO NOT SETTLE, if this is what you want to do and your heart is telling you something, go for it! You don’t want to be that person to look back in the past and say to yourself, “my only regret was…” Fly high brother 🤟🏽
Drill Sergeant "Youre wearing your failure all over your face" 😂
then take off the mask😂
Its weird that this was filmed during covid. I was there Feb to April 2021, and yeah, apparently bmt was handled differently for us
