I graduated about 4 and a half months ago now. I graduate tech school in a week now and I’m ready to start my career. But yes! This whole video! It’s definitely an experience I’ll never forget but one I never want to experience again lmaooo. Also go mustangs!!
I graduated Air Force basic training in 1989. It was the best decision of my life. Was sent to F.E. Warren AFB in Cheyenne, WY, Osan AB, Republic of Korea, Cheyenne Mountain AFB, Colorado Springs, CO, and a 6 month TDY to King Fahad AB in Saudi Arabia. Served as a Security Specialist nowadays called Security Forces.
Same here, April of 1989. 3708 BMTS. Went to Lowry AFB for Services tech school. Pretty easy times until 2006 when I got orders for a whole year in Afghanistan with the Army on a FOB.
@@vaf5636 he said in the beginning of his video that basic is only as hard as you make it, so it all depends on you and how you want your experience to be
Heh! Retired SMSgt here, excellent video! I hadn't thought about chow runner in years, but *I* was the chow runner for my flight! I went through BMT in 1980 and then retired in 2005, and then I was a high school English teacher in a low-performing school in Alabama, which was much more dangerous and violent than anything I ever did in the Air Force. I'm retired from that now, thankfully.
Thank you for this. Helpful for us moms too. Our youngest is leaving this week for USAF BC. We have a USN Sailor as well, and BC was a bit different but so many similarities. Thank you for your service.
The air force boot camp is awesome I liked very much very well trained after 6 weeks of training I loved it I will go back in if they let me in as a intrutor I will go to intrutor school and skip basic training I will go through a refresher course proud to serve. A1C SPRINGER.

Just signed up 2 days ago! Taking the ASVAB next Tuesday, then MEPs afterward. Fairly nervous, but I'm nervous about a lot of stupid stuff 😂 I can't wait till I ship out, should be early September. This video was so helpful, and I'm 100% sure I'll watch it more than once before I leave.
@@jayway8427 I actually booked my job and got my ship out date at MEPS! If you know what you want to do and know what you qualify for it’s possible. Your ship out date is either based on your job or when you feel comfortable leaving.
@@jayway8427 depends on Active Duty Guard or Reserve. as a Reservist i did MEPS and enlisted in MAR 2021 and shipped to BMT MAY 2022. Active Duty does MEPS and ships same day.
In 1981, I witnessed airmen getting recycled for being hospitalized. We had to drink 2 glasses of water before we could eat. The food was really good at Lackland.
When I pulled EC duty one time we had the full bird stop in. When he approached the door to leave, ( I assumed he was leaving) I called the dorm to attention. He also came to attention, thinking the general was on the other side of the door, which he was not. He wasn't too happy about taking a command order from a trainee and I quickly realized my mistake and put the dorm at ease.
An additional thing with food I learned from general life; in the hotter months, make sure to salt any and all foods that will allow for salt. You are sweating and losing those needed electrolytes every minute you are outside.
currently delaying enlisting so I can get some muscle mass, i’m scared shitless about push ups and stuff and need to get my body in shape so maybe once i can do that, i’ll enlist even easier with no doubts. I’m just psyching myself out saying “i’m short and small i can’t do this” and every time I say it I’m trying not to believe it
Don’t let the fitness portion of this freak you out so much. Just put in the work..and I mean really put in the work to get fit and it’ll come. I’m short and was small/skinny but hard work made me strong as anybody else…but still only 5’7”…you got it.
Seriously though lol. I played football with a woman who was a marine and I swear her favorite thing to growl scream prior to the ball snap was “KIIILLLLL!” 😂. She is definitely a marine through and and through!
Things sure have changed since 1971! Everybody got their chance at cleaning the latrines, showers and the bays. Lights went out at night. Only the Fire Watch had flashlights. We did not walk down the center aisle of the bay...that was kept shined. Half of all toilets, sinks and showers were not used. Easier to keep latrine clean for inspections. No one could just let themselves into the bay. Door guard only opened the door if whoever wanted in had a reason to be there. I once turned away a full colonel who had no connection to our flight. It was a test to see if he could bluff his way in. I was made Dorm Chief...and enjoyed it! Didn't see me on any KP list! I made the lists of who went to which duty. Get on my bad side and guess who was doing pots and pans! Also got my butt chewed for others not performing as they should. Had its perks and its drawbacks. I wasn't asked to be Dorm Chief...I was told! Do what you are told, keep your mouth shut unless asked to open it and do your best.
I graduated basic in 1980. I loved everything about the Air Force. I retired after 20 years and got a job with an airline and made big bucks! The retirement benefits are fantastic. Go Air Force ! I still remember my MTIs Sgt Sloop and Sgt Walls.
When it comes to chow runner, my advice is totally different. Volunteer for one thing only at BMT and that is chow runner, get it out of the way, if you volunteer for it first, you will eventually get good at it and they will eventually replace you. I got voluntold to be chow runner week 4 and was chow runner the rest of BMT. Get that out of the way so you dont have to do it later.
Quick thing I went in not wanting to do anything but get through it and be quiet I got out as dorm chief and loved it I believe it’s the best position you can have and it’s not hard at all so if you want a position go dorm chief

Are you nervous?
Im at March 7
I graduated about 4 and a half months ago now. I graduate tech school in a week now and I’m ready to start my career. But yes! This whole video! It’s definitely an experience I’ll never forget but one I never want to experience again lmaooo. Also go mustangs!!
Whats your afsc?
@@acekhmer 2A5X4 Refuel/Bomber Maintenance. I’m on the KC-135 and it’s honestly great. I’m not a big fan of the base but the job is fun
Pretty easy times until 2006 when I got orders for a whole year in Afghanistan with the Army on a FOB.
i ship out this july :) so far this has been the most informational video i've seen about bmt and i can't wait for more af content from you!
My son starts BMT in July also! Lackland AFB.
@@judymowatt3904 Our youngest son also starts BMT in July at Lackland.
let me know how it went my man

I’m shipping March 7 too!
Thank you!! Sooo much I needed this video I am really considering enlisting in the airforce you made my thoughts abt lot of the stuff better
Glad it was helpful!
@@jameskarelton I hope air force basic is easy
I loved this VERY informative video. I am so nervous but eager as I know this is the step I wanna take. Never been away from home longer than a week. Be invisible. Memorize how to talk. Whew got it
2009 I was in laundry and it rocked. It's got a bunch of perks, raise your hand for it
Omg, I even didn’t realize that your video was like 30minutes long. Thanks for all the advices. I am leaving for basic training in 18 days. I am very excited! I got thiiiiiiis! ❤
I used to grab the rolls and get those grape or apple jelly packs with some sugar, put it all together, and make a bootleg doughnut lol
I’ll be going to basic July 18th for the Air Force reserve. Really hoping fall comes early!
Really appreciate you taking the time to make this video
This really put me at ease, I am currently getting prepared to leave in a few months for USAF, very informational video. Thanks brotha
This was super helpful and pretty high quality. I could see you going far on youtube if you stay consistent- i was shocked to see that you only have 800 subs. Keep up the good work
Great video! Thank you for taking the time, this really helps. No need for fancy camera cuts, all the honest conversation is much better.
have you been yet?? i take asvab soon i took it in highschool got a 70 sum but it’s been 2 years but anyway that one line we have to remember the reporting as ordered i just want to know if it’s still the same. don’t want to memorize useless info
Awaiting job assignment to ship to BMT. I got a learning sheet from my recruiter and yep, it's still there, same line. So definitely good to practice it. Best of luck in your process!
Nice, upbeat presentation. Alot of info presented. Great job focusing on info that will benefit new trainees.
Good video. My son is on his way to Lackland today. He is 4th gen USAF! Thanks 89' 3706BMTS.
I’m leaving for basic training next week, these were helpful tips I’ll definitely keep in mind!
how long after MEPS did you get your ship out date and what’s your rate
@@jayway8427 I actually booked my job and got my ship out date at MEPS! If you know what you want to do and know what you qualify for it’s possible. Your ship out date is either based on your job or when you feel comfortable leaving.
@@Mary-ov1mp niceee good to know, thanks!
@@jayway8427 depends on Active Duty Guard or Reserve. as a Reservist i did MEPS and enlisted in MAR 2021 and shipped to BMT MAY 2022. Active Duty does MEPS and ships same day.
might see you at basic mary! take it easy! :D
About to ship out next Tuesday, your video was super helpful, thanks a ton
Thanks for this little introduction to usaf basic, your a real one!!
That’s gonna be me! 27 years old. It’s never too late to take a step back and adjust your lifestyle
thanks a lot buddy for taking time to give this information
Swore into DEP yesterday and on the 16th i’m taking the IFT and then i’ll get my contract. Really excited for this journey I just started.
I graduated from Boot Camp and got washed out for covid! :p Shout out to Maj Jared Struck
air force is for the birds
juicy j ain't got shit on me ...
currently delaying enlisting so I can get some muscle mass, i’m scared shitless about push ups and stuff and need to get my body in shape so maybe once i can do that, i’ll enlist even easier with no doubts.
Thank you for this video… I leave on Tuesday the 8th of October 2024 for BMT !!
Thank you for your explanations and insight. My son starts Basic training at Lackland on 7/11/23.
Hope your son is doing well! My son son started July 25, 2023!
AF: "aw here ya go, you ok?"
USMC: GO DIE!
*** All love for all branches, had to watch cause buddy is going to AF
Seriously though lol. I played football with a woman who was a marine and I swear her favorite thing to growl scream prior to the ball snap was “KIIILLLLL!” 😂. She is definitely a marine through and and through!
Best video ever on BMT!
I just signed. Ship date is May 23rd 2023.
Should've joined the marines
Noticed the t-shirt in the back.
Love the bulldogs.
I was a warthog myself.
Quite the mess we have now .....USAF '69-'73. God Help us all!!!
I got my uniform on day 2. And these are really good tips. #HYDRATE
any other tips you could give for BMT? i’m in highschool but going to enlist straight out of highschool
I graduated basic in 1980. I loved everything about the Air Force. I retired after 20 years and got a job with an airline and made big bucks! The retirement benefits are fantastic. Go Air Force ! I still remember my MTIs Sgt Sloop and Sgt Walls.
this is very helpful thank you i’ve just been accepted and am going to be sworn in wednesday
Thanks for the video. FYI those microphones were not made to be held, they are made to be attached to you so you can have your hands free.
Perfect video
Passed Meps today. Now just waiting for a Job. Super excited
The Brisket and the roll combo was the best
When it comes to chow runner, my advice is totally different. Volunteer for one thing only at BMT and that is chow runner, get it out of the way, if you volunteer for it first, you will eventually get good at it and they will eventually replace you. I got voluntold to be chow runner week 4 and was chow runner the rest of BMT. Get that out of the way so you dont have to do it later.
I thought everyone in basics stayed in the same dorms , I’m planning on going into the air force and watched your video for more onsite
Good job you did on providing info. My daughter will be graduating March 8-9th
literlaly have MEPs in the morning and going to hotel today for airforce, thanks for the tips
Quick thing I went in not wanting to do anything but get through it and be quiet I got out as dorm chief and loved it I believe it’s the best position you can have and it’s not hard at all so if you want a position go dorm chief
Thank you for this, shipping out in 20 days and I’m getting all the information I can get my hands on!
Shipping off April 30th. My pacer forge is gonna be in June. Thank God I’m from Texas and used to the heat.
Thank you for this.
The desert thing was the case when my dad was in basic, he was the first one to grab one on the later weeks and the MTI’s were menacing but accepted it

Going in tomorrow thanks for the help
When I went through basic in the 70's, if food arrived from home, it had to be gone by lights out. No stashing. Your hungry flightmates will gladly help you if there's too much.
I'm talking to an Air National Guard recruiter right now. I'm 29 with a wife and two kids. While i haven't been able to find any videos of people in my situation I really appreciated this video and the detail you put into it!
Same bro im working with an active duty Airforce recruit. Married 29y/o with a son. I’m trying to convince my wife to let me join. She is worried with my son movin, switching school etc. but I want a career change and couldn’t get the waivers I needed when I was younger (high school law problems) , I found a guy who’s a bit older than us(39) but he makes videos about being older in the military. Just type in 39 in Airforce BMT his vids will pop up
@@ThaRealOneEyE Amazing thank you! I hope it works out for you! I know my wife isn't pleased with my decision either she is reluctantly supporting me. Mostly because we've sat down multiple times and really talked about why I want to join and why she doesn't and Prayed about it. It's hard to remember sometimes but marriage is a team effort. I'll take a look at those video's you suggested! Thanks!
I just came back from BMT and Tech School and can help you with any questions you have! I thought about making a video for RUclips myself. I am in my 30s, married with kids. :)
@@DixonYTchannel amazing! how hard was it? did you begin exercising before going? how well were you able to communicate with your family? how did they handle you being gone? What was it like graduating from basic? how much time between graduating from basic and going to Tech School? did your family get to go with you to tech school? Or at least get a hotel nearby so you could visit them? And last but not least...what advice do you have?
@@DixonYTchannel And you should definitely make a video lol
I enjoy your video. Thank you for knowledge 😊😊
