Having owned two GT's and now a V6, the Mustang V6 is great. Quick and nimble. You really notice the lower weight in the front end. A manual is a must have.
i love watching people talk crap about brands and import vs domestic. a TRUE automobile enthusiast loves cars and the technological improvements they bring, no matter what brand or where they come from.
I felt like the video was just getting started...then it ended. It seemed like it was going to be a good, in-depth review, but was unnecessarily short.
Motortrend did a comparison between an M3 and an 11 GT and the difference in performance is negligible numbers wise. The M3 was still a better driver's car but the tester said the Mustang was by far the most exciting and fun. In the early days, there was a lot of speculation that the cylinder head was set up for DI, it just wasn't implemented but it certainly looked like it was set up for it. I wouldn't be surprised to see it in a few years. 450 horsepower anyone?
Been there done that and learned the hard way too :S...ALWAYS have a daily drive that has some form of mileage on hand when ever you get any kind of muscle car.
Obviously I prefer the 5.0 & SS over a V6's but, the Mustang V6 with the performance package and 6spd manual hauls some ass though. If you take out the optional 3.31 gears and go with a set of 3.73 or even 4.10's you'll have quite a little monster there! That gearing should make up for the lower torque of the V6... 280 isn't bad though...Same goes with the Camaro V6...That gearing would make a world of difference. I'd like to see some videos of these two cars with this gearing.
Mostly because the camaro and mustang have always been each others rivals. Also the only challenger worth testing with the gt and ss is the 392 and it's $8-$10k more. The 392 and other challengers are badass cars no doubt, I personally love the looks almost as much as my mustang. It's just unfortunate that those looks bring on the weight
@steven4rmnewyork Dude, what are you talking about? The 6 cylinder Mustang is putting out 300 + hp while getting 31 mpg. That's pretty amazing. The 5.0 Mustang has more performance from the factory than practically any other Mustang to date. You have to keep in mind that the older Mustangs, Camaros, GTOs, and whatnot all had significantly larger engines. A 5.0 engine is only 302 cubic inches. Older Mustangs had 351s, 428s, and 429s. That's a lot of difference.
I've always been a camaro fan. But I'm glad to see ford putting out a mustang that is FINALLY worth buying. (outside the 03/04 cobra which was pretty good). I think i'd still have the camaro based on looks but Ford has FINALLY closed the performance gap between the Camaro and the Mustang. It's about 'effin time!
After replacing the Pirelli tires on my 2012 5.0 with a different brand (Mickey Thompson in my case) I realized that the Perelli P-zeros are not as great as they are hyped up to be... the name sounds cool but I get much better traction/handling with different tires. I think the Pirellis may be good for winter though - they seem like a harder rubber than other z-rated tires.
My modded grand prix runs a 13.2 at 104. Whats up with the stang running a 14 flat w/ the same trap speed? Either terrible driving, or it's a slug off the line
@Disawat get the camaro rs or ls watever the v6 version the car looks good and some people may think u have the v8 version well its ur choice im just recommending the camaro
@mossow71 It's already been proven that the new Hennessey HPE650 Camaro is clearly superior to the Super Snake. The Camaro had a better track time, better drag time, and better suspension than the Super Snake.
@sandman3131 Like I said, don't get comfortable because in 2012 the Camaro is moving away from the Zeta Platform and into the lighter A Platform. HP is predicted to be at 435-440hp. The V6 which is already 312hp today will be 330hp.
I love my sterling gray V6. It truly does handle great and has plenty of power. The new camaro is great too, it really depends what style car you like better as they drive very similar. I use to own an older camaro (obviously cannot compare it to the modern camaro) and it felt like a boat anchor. Very heavy, tons of body roll... these modern day muscle cars are quick and light on their "feet"... they are much more enjoyable to drive.
Both are great cars. Regardless of the stats both vehicles being the new generation of their respective lines equally impress and meet up to the expectations we all know and love. They both went back to their roots, but kept the future in mind. Thumbs up to great american ingenuity!
@gmrtg1414 i wasn't talking about GM's i was talking in general. It might not be a small block to GM but to everyone else it is a big block. The biggest v8 on the market today from a american auto manufacturer is a 6.2. So its considered "big"
unfortunately I'm going to have to trade in my 2010 corvette grandsport for another car due to the high maintenance that comes with it. I'm going to have to downgrade to another car and i've been debating between the base mustang model and the base camaro ls model and i'm unsure on which to get. The mustang is cheaper than the camaro as well as better mpg but i'm not sure which one to get. If you can posts your opinions and tell me about your experiences with these cars please do so
I think I prefer the Mustang over the Camaro.. and the only reason for that is I feel like the Mustang has fewer blindspots. still though, it's incredibly hard to decide!
If they had kept a similar flat rear styled rear like the previous Mustang and got rid of all that plastic, I would be driving a new Mustang. Instead I got the car I dreamed about (2008), saved at least 15,000 dollars, much lower insurance, and still looks amazing. Maybe when the 5.0s start hitting the used lots and eventually depreciate, I'll add one of those babes to my garage so I can have the best of both.
ford finally brought back the 5.0. The older ones were amazingly tough, and fast for its time. Now the new 5.0 will take the street once again insuring the future of the mustang for years to come.
I'm diggin that Ford brought back the 5.0 That's my nemesis. I just wish they could have a retro fox bod headlight so I can recognize them as they try for a ricer fly-by. lol I like that blue stang.... it looks good.
@BRLStudio 392 challenger. The replacement srt8, but the price went up on it. I don't know if they are trying to compete with the Mustang GT/ CAmaro SS or the gt500 now.. lol
@Texarmageddon I agree. Then's where the stang started to die. It still had something left of the muscle car look though. And it was a bullet in comparasion with most pinto based "stangs". Well... 390 made more than 330 hp. You can find everywhere that ford underrated a lot the horsepower of the engines a lot to introduce them in certain racing categories. I personally don't find the 4.6 as a good engine for performance purposes. It's hard and reliable, good for real life situations.
I love the Holden Zeta...ooops...er...I mean the New Camaro...lol! Nice Aussie ride. Bigger inside than the Hau Tai Tang-stang. The rice-stang is lighter. Both very nice rides. A new stang is a stang and it's platform isn't shared w anything else. The Camaro platform is shared...w some cool Buicks, Cadilacs, Holdens and the Pontiac G8. The Challenger, Charger, Magnum, Mercedes E-Series...same car platform.
There are probably many people like myself that until now wouldn't have considered getting a muscle car with anything but a v8 but times have changed. 300+ hp is plenty for me and with gas prices set only to keep going up I just can't justify a big ole v8 anymore. Looks wise the Camaro weakens my knees when I see it in person, breathtaking to my eye. I liked the Mustang style more before the current change but it still looks good. The Mustang looks easier to live with daily but test drives loom.
Both badass cars. I own a 2012 camaro ss but man those mustangs gt are a lot of fun, too. I've taken out a Mustang gt on the freeway on my SS. But then again, i just lost a race recently to another mustang gt on a drag race. All up to the driver lol. Drag race, i think mustang gt takes the win. I just think the camaro ss has more personality, love the design.. But idk, the more i see the mustang gt, the more i want one. If u buy either one, u will own the road.
@EnEsFive I'm still convinced the Camaro performs better, although i'll give the Mustang it's dues for being a bit more agile since it is ALOT lighter, i'm just talking about stuff that would have made it more visibly appealing to the consumer.
There is a reason Camaro/Firebird and Challenger didn't sell and were discontinued, GM and Chrysler stopped trying to compete and Ford took the ball and ran with it. Mustang has how many models now? You have Shelby, Roush, Saleen, Foose etc. contributing ideas and tech over the last few years and the SVT team at Ford is stellar, with the Bullit, Boss 302 and Cobra jets. GM and Chrysler are starting over and it shows. Watch SCCA racing and tell me who is miles ahead.
Hey I'm thinking about getting a 2010 mustang the v6 model its only come with 210bhp right ? Is it gona be enough horse for the big heavy body ? well here 2010 mustang v6 or comaro LS P.S. Cant aford the GT or SS cos of insurance :(( thx
chevy - you buy it, it looks good, it runs fine for a week, then quits(for display only) ford - you buy it, it looks good, its fast, runs great, and it never lets you down(a good car)
Im a chevy guy but i think a lot of ford guys are happy to see the camaro back, because it will olny challenge ford to make a better car. Anyone think they would still have the 4.6 if the camaro or challenger wasnt around?
I clicked the pre-video ad that brought me here in hopes of finding out the music that was playing. That music is not present in this video. Anyone know the artist who made the neo-classical music for the advertisement they're running???
I love GM products, I'm normally a Camaro guy, but I've gotta admit, the current 5.0 Mustang blows the 6.2L Camaro away in pretty much every measurable way. I can only hope Chevy ups their game for the new 2015 Camaro
They are both great cars....but I've gotta go with the Camaro. They just captivate me. The Legend Reborn! ;) (but i have nothing against the mustang at ALL!)
@Lilmorty100 sure thing lol, throw a Bassani on there then say that... Ford has to put restrictive exhaust systems on there because of emissions control.
@Fishrocksalamander it read 515 hp at the crank. at the wheels its about 426 hp. at the wheels means some of the power is lost by the time it gets from the engine to the wheels.
@dannydevito64 Challenger is in a different size class, though I will say it is the one that nailed its look. Mustang in second place for looks with Camaro taking third.
@Texarmageddon i could be wrong on the DOHC thing...am too lazy to look it up ..but i thought they switched to DOHC after 05 models...hell if i know..what i do know if it atleast had SOHC..wich is still 1 more than an LS1...and those engines are a 90 degree block and the heads on it are HUGE..the 4.6's are actually lager in size than the larger displacement LS1...physically larger...so for everyone who says..the 5.0's and 4.6's can beat a laerger engine...need to look at how huge they are
@sandman3131 Car & Driver dec. 1993, Introduction of 4th gen LT1 Camaro and New Body Mustang Camaro 275hp & 325tq/Mustang 5.0 215hp & 285tq. Mustang went backwards instead of forward. 0-60: Camaro 5.4/ Mustang 6.7 1/4 mile: Camaro 14.0 @102mph/ Mustang 15.1@92mph I guess Ford doesn't care about muscle car status for the Mustang anymore at this point.
but remember. The M3 costs that much because everything along with the performance is high quality, the SAT NAV, the fine leather, carbon fiber roof, the time and engineering that goes in to making avery single BMW have a perfect 50/50 weight distribution. That is one of their biggest concerns. I mean the BMW also cost that much because they are built to last 20 to 25 years. i mean every time you see footage of Europe or Africa and sometimes the middle East, they are all driving late 80's or
wow I have always loved mustangs (have a 66 fastback of my own), but I would have to pick the camaro over the mustang in this video, new camaros are just way to sick!
honestly im a mustang man and ill always take the stang even if the chevy is way better.. lol but ALL the new muscle cars are awesome.. i have been waiting a long time to see this
@lolialmostskate You're wrong the liters are metric measurement of displacement and the cubic inch is english. They measure the same thing, displacement so you can't have a difference of more than a couple inches per tenth of a liter. It's just the liter points (.1, .2 etc) are bigger than a couple of inches. That's why you can have a 302ci or a 306ci motor being a 5.0liter. But you will never have a 359 thats a 7.0liter. 359 is a 5.8 liter motor.
@TheFordman30287 Even though I like the Camaro better, I agree. I'm sure the ZL1 would struggle against the GT & 5.0. Doesn't even contend with the Cobra, Boss 302, or Laguna Seca, for obvious reasons.
were getting quite old at that point. I forget how long that embargo lasted. it was like 6 to 8 years or something like that. It got lifted because it later got deemed unconstitutional.
@SFBay69 i dont really know hiw they measure if its a big or small block... I just looked at the raptor when i was buying my truck and thats how the dealer advertised it as... They asked if i wanted the 5.0 or the big block 6.2
@Lifan2009 no, but I believe false advertising and fraud are against the law. I suppose they found a loophole though be simply calling it that without actually claiming the car was made in the given year.
@vinylcollector08 id have 2 choose the camaro because i love 2 drive fast. dont get me wrong the challenger is quick but it feels like a long distance car and its a bit too heavy 4 me.
@CBCOlympics okay but what i'm saying is chevy's way of doing things is 'drop a bigger motor in it to get more power' ford made just as much power in a lighter car with a 5 liter engine..all im saying
The v6's in these cars are powerful.. My v8 firebird has 90 horses less then the 2012 v6 camaro. As far as handling corners.. Chances are that guy has got his info from video games.. My bird has taken very sharp turns fairly nicely.
I'm trading in my 2012 2LT RS camaro for a v6 mustang with the pony package. My camaro is aggravating to get in and out of. I had to learn how to get in and out without bumping into something. The camaro is heavy and steering is horrible. Its like trying to steer a boat. I test drove a 2013 mustang yesterday and was pleasantly surprised. Its much lighter, rides better in my opinion and steering is far better.
personally i find the Camaro handles much much smoother than the Mustang because the Camaro has a wider wheel base than the Mustang does, i test drove a 2011 Mustang and im sorry but i felt it handled like a lumberwagon, and you felt every damn bump in the road and that was the GT, but thats just me :) we all have our opinions
its amazing how technology with roots going back 3/4 of a century (being the live rear axle) can be still one of the best performers. it goes to show that sometimes simplicity reigns supreme. between the 2 cars, i have to say the camaro is more 'streetable' and rides similar to any midsized sedan...but for a more pure muscle car feel, the mustangs still reign above the rest...chevy and dodge will be playing catch-up for a while in this contest....well maybe chevy..dodge should give up.
ford has the capability to build a kick ass mustang. just look at the super stallions from the 90's. i stand behind my 4.6 statement. i had a STOCK auto 95' z28 that trounced EVERY mustang it came across(from early 90's - 07's), this is despite the claims that the 4.6 ran 300 bhp even where my car was rated 275 from factory, my only mod on the car was upgraded rubber. that's it.
@saleener1985 If your talking about the camaro I totally agree I have driven one and I was afraid to use the cars power because that pillar IS in the way, and i didn't want to loose it and fly into something I didn't see. Camaros feel fast but when you put your foot down it's like you got a 3.1 l when you think you have a 6.0 l. I will never turn my back on a Mustang.
What are you a Honda fanboy? hp/liter is meaningless. What matters is power vs gas mileage, and reliability. These engines compete well at all of useful stats.
Both cars are sweet but I say GM brings back the firebird and the trans am and if that ever happens then the mustang is done
Your forgetting that its still gm and they will find a way to screw it up
Having owned two GT's and now a V6, the Mustang V6 is great. Quick and nimble. You really notice the lower weight in the front end. A manual is a must have.
does anybody else like the sound of the v6 mustang over the v8 mustang? im lovin the sound of the v6
i love watching people talk crap about brands and import vs domestic. a TRUE automobile enthusiast loves cars and the technological improvements they bring, no matter what brand or where they come from.
I LIKE THIS GUY I LIKE HOW HE TALKS VERY SMOOTH
I felt like the video was just getting started...then it ended. It seemed like it was going to be a good, in-depth review, but was unnecessarily short.
The 4.0 was a boat anchor. But it was one hell of a reliable boat anchor. It defiantly served well in the ranger pickups.
Who agrees ? :D
Tell me about the jackshafts and cam phasers
Ford has done a magnificent job. It finally has the HP to match it's competitors. The new Boss 302 has me very interested.
I like how C&D is the only stubborn magazine that states the camaro is faster when all other mags are averaging high 12's for the stang
Motortrend did a comparison between an M3 and an 11 GT and the difference in performance is negligible numbers wise. It's great to see the Muscle car return to the streets.

@six6wings Why is it the show stopper? The Mustang still handles better, even with the live axle.
Has anyone here noticed how bad-ass the V6 Mustang sounds? It sounds like a V8!
@gmrtg1414 i wasn't talking about GM's i was talking in general. It might not be a small block to GM but to everyone else it is a big block. The biggest v8 on the market today from a american auto manufacturer is a 6.2. So its considered "big"
Alright,, at 1:01 to 1:05, what cars rev was that? Sounded beautiful.
I'm a camaro guy and I can agree that the 5.0 should had ran between 12.6-12.8, and the camaro rs could've done 13.9-14.2
unfortunately I'm going to have to trade in my 2010 corvette grandsport for another car due to the high maintenance that comes with it. I say that the best to chose is the V6 mustang as if it will be your everyday use car
I think I prefer the Mustang over the Camaro.. and the only reason for that is I feel like the Mustang has fewer blindspots. still though, it's incredibly hard to decide!
@sandman3131 R&D Dec. 1991 pg. 76-86:

1/4 mile: Stang LX 15.5 @90mph Camaro 15.1 @93mph.
It's all there man. Just go to your local library and check out those Mags. I've mentioned.
both are amazing cars...
@juanlozanoism do you always say that on the ford videos?
If they had kept a similar flat rear styled rear like the previous Mustang and got rid of all that plastic, I would be driving a new Mustang. @coalandnuclear 93-99. You mean? Cobra R was a 5.4 4v pushing 385hp..... went to chevy again from 01-02... then stang came back with 03-04.
Soooo, what version of the camaro is the one that transforms into a kick ass robot?
How does the camaro handle is the rain/snow?
ford finally brought back the 5.0. The older ones were amazingly tough, and fast for its time. Now the new 5.0 will take the street once again insuring the future of the mustang for years to come.

Its hard to argue with skidpad, but seriously how did the V6 Mustang which in this lot should be the worst handling, achieve the best skidpad result?
@mossow71 actually the camaro ss weighs 4600 pounds which includes 4 passengers and sits on the same frame and the GTO's
@Texarmageddon I agree. Then's where the stang started to die. It still had something left of the muscle car look though. And it was a bullet in comparasion with most pinto based "stangs". @KillaCamRon405 Uhm dude the power output of the 2011 camaro ss is the same as the one from 2010 so what is your point?
why not feature a Shelby Cobra? Wouldnt that be a closer match to a Camaro SS?
I love the Holden Zeta...ooops...er...I mean the New Camaro...lol! Nice Aussie ride. Bigger inside than the Hau Tai Tang-stang. The rice-stang is lighter. Both very nice rides. lmao so true :)
@thunderup86 You obviously haven't researched what you just said. the camaro is the heavier car here.
you know the camaro is pushing 3800lbs right?
@speedyshogun Your right, Mustang looked great from 74-04 LOL. Specially the 76 Cobra ll.
1:51 to 2:02 All 4 cars sounds AMAZING

@Fishrocksalamander it read 515 hp at the crank. at the wheels its about 426 hp.
at the wheels means some of the power is lost by the time it gets from the engine
to the wheels.
@goarmy979 no you should say chevy not shevy.
1993, Introduction of 4th gen LT1 Camaro and New Body Mustang
Camaro 275hp & 325tq/Mustang 5.0 215hp & 285tq. Mustang went backwards instead of forward.
0-60: Camaro 5.4/ Mustang 6.7
1/4 mile: Camaro 14.0 @102mph/ Mustang 15.1@92mph
I guess Ford doesn't care about muscle car status for the Mustang anymore at this point.
@insanemethod1 Are you sue? because most tests (from 1993-2002, and 2010) show it the other way around.
but remember.
@italiankilla58 no.. because the camaro weights a shit ton because of its body size and extra 1.2 liters..
honestly im a mustang man and ill always take the stang even if the chevy is way better.. lol but ALL the new muscle cars are awesome.. i have been waiting a long time to see this
@lolialmostskate You're wrong the liters are metric measurement of displacement and the cubic inch is english.
I suppose they found a loophole though be simply calling it that without actually claiming the car was made in the given year.
hey so... when the 2012 camaro zl1 comes out we gonna compare that to the 2011 mustang gt? i mean its only fair
@vinylcollector08 id have 2 choose the camaro because i love 2 drive fast. dont get me wrong the challenger is quick but it feels like a long distance car and its a bit too heavy 4 me.
@TheStig000 jesus christ! now i wanna drive one even more! is that stick shift or auto?
I live in Brazil and here the Camaro SS V8 costs U.S. $ 110,000 but in U.S. costs U.S. $ 38,000 which is the price of my Honda Civic LXS.
ENVY!
I think the micro guy is right about the raptor... Ive heard numerous times that the ford raptor's 6.2 is a big block..
As much of a Chevy guy I am, it's hard to deny at how good the new Mustangs are.
@CBCOlympics okay but what i'm saying is chevy's way of doing things is 'drop a bigger motor in it to get more power' ford made just as much power in a lighter car with a 5 liter engine..all im saying
the mustang and camaro are good for eyes and speed but the challenger is more all around and family friendly but enough speed to keep up
I like the mustang more than the camaro, but the SS sounds like a beast!
The v6's in these cars are powerful.. My v8 firebird has 90 horses less then the 2012 v6 camaro. As far as handling corners.. Chances are that guy has got his info from video games.. My bird has taken very sharp turns fairly nicely.
My friend raced a 2011 Camaro SS with his 5.0, I think we one by almost a bus length by the time we hit 120
Its much lighter, rides better in my opinion and steering is far better.
personally i find the Camaro handles much much smoother than the Mustang because the Camaro has a wider wheel base than the Mustang does, i test drove a 2011 Mustang and im sorry but i felt it handled like a lumberwagon, and you felt every damn bump in the road and that was the GT, but thats just me :) we all have our opinions
its amazing how technology with roots going back 3/4 of a century (being the live rear axle) can be still one of the best performers. it goes to show that sometimes simplicity reigns supreme. between the 2 cars, i have to say the camaro is more 'streetable' and rides similar to any midsized sedan...but for a more pure muscle car feel, the mustangs still reign above the rest...chevy and dodge will be playing catch-up for a while in this contest....well maybe chevy..dodge should give up.
i saw an avalanche yesterday and i noticed something about the tail lights. the avalanche and camaro have the same tail lights just turned sideways.
ford has the capability to build a kick ass mustang. just look at the super stallions from the 90's. i stand behind my 4.6 statement. i had a STOCK auto 95' z28 that trounced EVERY mustang it came across(from early 90's - 07's), this is despite the claims that the 4.6 ran 300 bhp even where my car was rated 275 from factory, my only mod on the car was upgraded rubber.
