This is amazing that John, being a legendary musician, enjoys simply jamming with the public, openly sharing his thoughts, little fuckups and musical discoveries. It inspires me and returns my belief that a true artist always stays creative and puts simply enjoying the craft first.
How fun, just keep swimming, keep playing playfully, rock on for the joy in your heart and soul that feels so satisfying in those moments that move you into that space of clarity and freedom and fun. Lots of love and encouraging you forward to find your own inner greatness that you know you are.
Oh man, what a beautiful talent and amazing pass time to be able to throw on a random song and play an instrument to it so flawlessly. Musicians have mad skills!
There really aren't as many accessible celebrities than John Mayer. To my knowledge, Beyonce isn't out there doing voice lessons. Absolutely love his transparency into his process. Can you imagine if SRV did these videos??
I wish he would make an all instrumental album like this. No singing, just blues backing (with live musicians...and a live audience) and John playing along.
@@brandonboatner9952 meh, I'm not at all a Bonamassa fan. Sure, technically he's solid but he has no emotion behind those notes. Kinda like Satriani and Malmsteen for me. Sure they can shred but their sounds come across, to me, like robots.

I come back to this regularly. John introduced me to the joy of blues guitar to an extent that I never really thought possible. I could , and invariably do actually, listen to him do this for hours on end. And then I go off and look up music by names he mentions. His love for the guitar , his talent and the sound he produces has been influential in what and the way I listen to all music now.
Love this. You get to realize he has the same attitude as any of us guitar players when we're struggling to play along to a backing track. Just a regular dude with incredible talent, awesome.
Actually, that’s what I call the special musician moments. Where you know you want to jump out and try to physically play (what you hear in your mind) beforehand. And, not only do you do what you want, but you far exceed your expectations in the end. And, that is really a nice surprise for yourself. Big smile - move on - and never forget. It doesn’t really happen that often. There must be a word for it. I just know it’s really a special kind of feeling inside after it happens.
@@bctwitty I like "special musician moments". What you're describing is a core aspect of impov and ear training. Train the brain to play what the mind comes up with, thats the hallmark of any good musician. Lots of people can feel/think music like john, there are also lots of people who "play the guitar" better than john. However the shaded area on that venn diagram is extremely limited, since it represents people who have a true gift for music AND the discipline to hone their craft from childhood into adulthood.
This is the cool thing about guitar, or any instrument for that matter. The dude may be famous, but he is just a dude jamming on his guitar at home. Makes mistakes and has things he is also trying to learn, getting better every day. This is more inspiring to me than watching someone play something perfectly. 🤘
Do you guys realize what you're watching?! This is a master class holy shit! When he did the swamp blues track it blew me away to see him adapt the idea of what he thought swamp blues was. He just coined swamp blues without even knowing it. Wow! One of the best musicians if our time hands down. Unreal.
I play with Jam tracks all the time. There is nothing better for learning and applying scales. Its amazing how all that knuckle headed scale you do work comes together when you see how everything you practiced sounds right!
I also, every time I pick the guitar up want to be surprised. Its so fun to see an accomplished person as John is get excited like a child when playing the guitar. This is just as entertaining as listening to his albums. Thanks Mr. Mayer
Yesssss!! I started jamming to backing tracks on RUclips a couple of years ago and my guitar knowledge and improvising have exploded. Still not very good as a lead guitarist, but it’s awesome to see a world class guitarist doing what I did when I was too depressed to leave the house.
This boy born with a plectrum and a guitar as an extension of his body (like the wings of a bird) transports me to another world. The best of all is that he himself is surprised at the wonderful sounds he achieves, what a perfectionist he is. I love him

I feel like he's so gifted and such a musical prodigy that hanging out with people might not have been easy for him. In the end it worked out for the rest of us! Hope he's happy too lol
