Dont scare yourself away...its really very simple if you know a couple of pentatonic shapes. Go watch the 'stitch method' video for a simpler breakdown.
@@jimmrockford9407 especially if you learn your minor and major arpeggios. Hell add in some dominant arpeggios while you’re at it. It’s almost easier to learn Dorian rather than your basic minor shapes, just so your not stuck trying to add the notes later.

Just mind-expanding & satisfying to begin to really understand how it all works together. Next thing is to work on the muscle memory to be able to use it well. Most peoples fingers don't naturally work together like that. (thats where the real work comes in).

Yes, mix minor and major in the same position, but do it in a different position than just the first position or E shape. I enjoyed listening to his playing. I just don't listen too much to what he's saying.. But that's how we learn fundamentally, watch and listen to the demonstration....

One way I sometimes think about it, when outside the VIII position Cm pentatonic, is looking at the other side of the coin: Eb major pentatonic in V position. I always struggle having the root note on the little finger and this has helped me a lot on visualizing the fretboard. My guitar teacher, a great one at that, always tells me and his other students to study the different scale shapes both in minor and major, for any given position (e.g. ascending major, descending minor etc).
OK, I'm onto it. Great advice for all of us guitar lovers. I'll be running those minor and major pents up and down the neck, all mixed and stirred well.

Buy a book called Blues You Can Use. Bought it over 20 years ago. It teaches all of this stuff. It’s easy to understand. You all can do it, too. Get a book. Practice.

M7 min7 Dominant 7 1/2 diminished 7 Diminished 7 A7 - ami7 - A7 - ami7b5 - adim7 Then learn your chord progressions in a major song which you’ve already all done… And then do it in a minor key.… You’ll discover that the II chord is always a half diminished seventh chord preceding the V chord. Ear training :-)

It is well established and understood in jazz and rock and even country. So in a major key the II, III, and IV chords are always minor seven chords with or without the seventh. Minor keys are a little bit more mysterious because of the half diminished II chord... The VII chord in a C Major key is half diminished chord, like bmi7-5. Practice this sound in different keys, is excellent ear training. I hope this helps answer your question, and thanks. PS Improvising Jazz, by Jerry Coker, is a compact bible of jazz voicing and progressions that is a priceless reference that and jazz instrumentalists are aware of since 1964. In 110 pages ... worth more than a 2 year music degree. IMHO My father as a student at Yale music school was teaching Paul Hindemith counterpoint and Harmony classes. He graduated in three years with a piano masters. I was turning pages for him when I was eight years old in 1963 and have been playing Oboe since 1965, and Guitar since 1975. My dad had thousands of song books. Fake books. Most of those fake books were just the chords and the melody. That’s all we need to get started, once learning how to spell the chords before us :-).

It all about the underlying chord i.e if you play under a dom7 chord, you can use both minor or major together because it has a major 3rd and and minor 7 in the chord. if you combine both these scale under say A7 only notes that technically don't fit is Bb G# and F.
