Great tutorial! One quick question for the ignorant: Why do you need the XR18? Why not just direct from DAW to Headrush? Sorry that's probably pretty basic... but ... ?
@Dave Webb Music Awesome. Thank you. I did finally figure it out albeit a little differently than you but you have a great tutorial there and that will surely help many people out. My main problem was that I needed to go into the xr18 settings and put a check in midi passthrough. The cc messages weren't coming out of the xr18 to go to the headrush. I made a crappy video showing how I do it and just posted it in one of the headrush groups on facebook because there were some others interested on how to do this also. I will share your video on there. Keep up the good work. You're an amazing content creator. Thank you very much.
@@DaveWebbMusic back at ya. I watch a lot of your videos. Very helpful and professionally done. I wasn't expecting a video response. Haha. When I just saw the notification that you responded and made a video specific, that blew my mind. That don't usually happen. Thank you so much.
That's a great instructional video on MIDI controlling the Headrush (HR) unit from a computer acting as a external MIDI controller with the triggers assigned through the software shown that has the CC configured for the correct stomp switches on the HR unit to be activated automatically. But what if you want to do it manually, say through a ART X-15 Ultrafoot bi-directional MIDI controller ? You see, I have this problem...I Just returned my new Headrush (HR) Prime under warranty as it can't process or produce MIDI signals in & out; I got another new replacement under warranty and it fails equally so. Firmware is at 4.0.0 for it Everything works well on it except for MIDI. Through testing with DIN-5 plugs with cables or using only a USB 'B' connection to a Mac or Windows computer, or only using using a 'Bluetooth WIDI Jack' to a Mac, no MIDI signals goes in or out of the Headrush Prime. This is very sad. I was hoping that this digital signal processor could do MIDI. Just so frustrated. Perhaps I am wrong. Please enlighten me.
Thanks for the great video, Dave! One question though: can you cycle through rigs via midi rather than calling one up specifically? Basically the "rig up" and "rig down" function. I'm trying to use an external midi footswitch for that purpose. Thanks!
Thanks mate! Glad you enjoyed it. Yeah definitely can do that. CC 49 is bank up CC 55 is bank down I have the list of CC values at 4:12. Easy as! Happy midi mapping. 🤘🏼
Hello dear Dave! Thanks you for a great video explanation! Cause of it i change my mind to sell my Headrush and buy a QC) But could you please answer in one my question? I use my Headrush with Mesa Triaxis in a fx loop! It is a perfect couple, but...) mesa change presets only with PC messages... So the problem is that i need control Headrush scenes with CC messages from 1 midi chennal, and control my mesa with PC messages from 2 midi chennal at the same time... Do you have any experience to send a midi messages from ableton in different midi chennals at the same time from X-Air? I plane to connect mesa to midi in from behringer, and after midi through to midi in of Headrush... Thanks you for any adwise!
Great Vid! Got one question: I'd like to use the setlist/song mode 'cause I find the displayed setlist very useful. Would you suggest to change the rigs by PC or by CC (targeting the button) Thx
Definitely. For example, you could use a Morningstar midi controller and assign your messages to switch whatever you need. As long as all your devices are on their own channel, it works no problems.
You’re a GODSEND for this one man! Thank you so much!!

This is SO helpful. Thanks Dave!
So welcome! There’s really not much info about this around. Had to be done. 🤘🏼
Great job, thanks for sharing 🤘🏼

Glad you got it sorted.
Thanks for the awesome feedback! Much appreciated.
Happy jamming dude. 🤘🏼

And yes, you pronounced my name perfectly. Not everyone does that. :)
Haha awesome.

Thanks so much! what are the CCs for the gig board?
I’m not sure. I’d try the same values and see.
Is it possible in Logic Pro too? How can I do that?

Both would work. I think if you assign a PC for each patch then you have less chance of mucking up when things get moved.
@@DaveWebbMusic thx
Can you make a tutorial with Logic Pro?
No sorry. I don’t have or use Logic.
so basically you can only simulate pressing a switch? not actually setting it to ON or OFF? just TOGGLE? that kinda sucks. or did i miss something
Can I use an other midi controller at same time with the xr 18 and the headrush? To Change scenes with ableton and stomps with other midi controller
