Scott! I have searched RUclips several times over the past year looking for a clear and concise tutorial to help me understand these MIDI concepts. I have watched several videos and downloaded books on the topic. They all explain the basics but do not connect the dots with a practical working example. I am so grateful that I found this video today! It is a game changer. Please accept my donation of $10 for this compilation of awesomeness! I love the GIFs, makes an otherwise dry & confusing topic humorous and fun to watch. Thank you, thank you, super thank you. Best ever.
Wow, thank you! I really appreciate that :) and I’m glad you found the video so helpful. I think this is definitely one of the best videos I’ve done, so I’m glad to see people getting an understanding out of it. Thank you again 🤘
Hey man, the best compliment I can give to this video is you are the Rick Beato of wireless gear, midi, and automation. Thanks, this is exactly what I have been looking for. More of this content please.
Hi Scott, This is the best midi tutorial across all tutorials and truly real scenario that you explained. Thanks and a looking forward for more such interesting and problem solving interesting guidance.
I keep coming back to your videos because you're an incredible teacher - truly. My husband and I are learning so much from you. I'm an old school musician and back in the 90's/00's we just didn't have this kind of tech readily available so we never learned how to do anything beyond stomping on individual Boss pedals on a massive pedal board. But now that we're back playing out big shows, I'm trying to get us fully up to speed on the latest tech that can make the job easier, and you keep delivering! We've got equipment that we've only scratched the surface on learning but you're blowing the doors wide open for us. THANKS AGAIN!
Ha! Yes old school here too! I started before fuzz pedals were even available....had to rely on tube amp distortion...but then the blessed Big Muff appeared on the scene to save us! LOL! Look at what musicians have now...AMAZING!
Well done! The funnel hierarchy helped me to understand the differences in the message "types" and what they truly control. This was the basic information that I really needed, and that everyone else skipped over and then went straight into the more complicated material.
Scott, thanks for this video, it was excellent! I think you have set the highest standard for instructional videos. I have never seen anything so clearly and thoroughly explained. With regard to MIDI, which is what brought me here, you are doing exactly what I want to do. I had started coding in Swift and was successfully controlling my midi device via Bluetooth but now that I know about the Onsong app I will follow your lead. Thanks a million for documenting this. Cheers Pat
People below in previous comments said it, and I’ll emphasize their comments by saying how grateful for this video I am. Absolutely incredible tutorial. Thank you very much!
THANK YOU! You saved my mental health! I was starting going crazy finding no tutorials, posts or videos anywhere! This helped me a lot learning about hardware and what can I do by daisy chaining and what I can't, wich was one of my main doubts, and also learn about the programming! THANK YOU!
@@ScottUhlMusic i'm sure it will! Keep on making great content! I studied MIDI at school but this video summarized half of the term I learned at school haha thumbs up!!!

The 0 - 127 vs 1 - 128 general midi divide can require some mental gymnastics at first. ...StrictlyDAWless
This is great. I've come back to MIDI after a few years away and somewhat giving up b/c it is so mind bending at time. For me, I'm programming MidiPad 2 on my iPad to control things within Amplitube 5 like switching presets and turning on and off pedals. With the help of your video, I think I generally have it working the way I want (or at least I can envision how it should come together!), What I am still looking for is an app that generates MIDI signals from my iPad that allows for the Control Change values to be changed as if it were a dial/knob/slider. So I could assign say a volume knob in Amplitube but then turn it up or down with a slider. I suspect something like that is out there, I just haven't figured out what it is. Like at about 20:00, you're talking about the Feedback value. I want to send a signal (or I guess really a series of signals) that allow me to select the full range of that CC#, not just a single value. I'll get there . . .
