Hello and many thanks for your video. I am contemplating getting one of these devices predominantly so I can connect an old hardware keyboard to Logic pro on board my iMac so I can record midi using the on-board sounds of the old Roland E 30 which runs the linear arithmetic sound chip sound engine dating back to 1990 on release. This fantastic hardware Roland house some of the sounds from since including the Roland D 50 and others alike. The E 30 is very much like the E 20 Roland boathouse an extra 64 on board sounds. So I’m wondering, if this Bluetooth device would be compatible? I’d also love to know what the advantages are off using both Bluetooth five pin din plugs.
I think I found my answer.... Please note, when working with a Bluetooth MIDI group, there can only be one (1) central. Besides this, there can currently be up to four (4) peripherals. When you switch on multiple WIDI devices at the same time, they will automatically connect to each other. One WIDI device will take that central role (turquoise led indicator) following your manual settings through the WIDI App when creating the group. So this means it wouldn't be possible. I could get another pair of midi adapters and pair them separately???
Oh interesting…. I would have to mess with that. You can email them to find out. You could also set certain devices to only read on specific midi channels. That would help too!”
Hi Scott. Thanks for your great videos. I have a question about two of your videos: WIDI Master - Wireless MIDI Adapter - Demo and Review Wireless Midi Adapter - Yamaha MD-BT01 - Midi Over Bluetooth Is there a difference between this two devices and what do you prefer now? I mwant to buy a device to control a Catalyst 200 with my Helix. What do you think is the better device? Greetings from Germany Roland
@@ScottUhlMusic Thanks for your fast answer. So i have to buy WIDI Master for the Helix and a WIDI Jack for my Catalyst or other Devices. That should be the best solution for all scenarios, i think. I'm right?

Hey question, if you can connect the widi master up to the keyboard , do you know of a way where you could connect either the samsung gear or apple watch amd use that as a metronome if you wanted to create a pattern loop while being live...so that you dont have to hear the click or sound of the metronome from the keyboard
Can you chain multiple devices together? we use 3 kempers, each on a separate global midi channel and they all get their own messages at the same time(chain) can you use multiple widis to do this? im sorry if you have explained this and i havent seen it
hey Scott, can I flip the midi in and out so that the out goes to the small connector and the in to the big one with the headphones in? I ask this because the power chord to my fractal fm3 does not have enough clearance for the headphone jack. I cannot plug it to the midi out.
Hi Scott I think we may be brothers from another mother. Where you go with tech I appear to follow....question: if you use more than one 'set' of midi masters how does the receiving device know which one to listen to. Say I have morning star pedal controlling one rc505mk2 looper and another pedal controlling another looper how do the loopers know which pedal to listen to???? The two midi masters are bought separately . So if you buy 4 in total how would the receiving ones know which midi output to listen to??? Can they be paired separately???
The midi out of almost all devices that have MIDI OUT will send power to the device. In the rare case that it doesn’t, you can use this instead: ruclips.net/video/GZVG2UfwJ4w/видео.html
Thanks for your amazing videos! You're channel is my new found go-to. Question; I have both the WIDI jack and WIDI master. I use the Line 6 helix for patches and page turning in Onsong. However, the connection is very unstable, it constantly disconnects when I minimise the app and even when I leave it open for a while. I have all background setting enabled in my iPad. Do know why that might be? Thanks in advance.
Thanks! And do you notice a pattern on why it might be disconnecting? Like does it only disconnect at your house? Have you tried other places? I find it to be really reliable, but it is still a Bluetooth connection, so it can be disconnected sometimes
@@ScottUhlMusic If I'm honest I haven't tried it with my Helix for long enough periods at home to tell if the same thing happens. Hey Scott - have you ever had places where all the wireless stuff just stops working? My rig is a iPad w/Onsong that connects to a WIDI master to control my FM3. I have a Airturn pedal to control the onsong song/PC. At home....perfect. At the studio, sometimes, the iPad doesn't connect to anything. We've tried turning off other wireless devices and it still doesn't work. I'm getting too nervous to use this for live gigs.
Absolutely. It depends on the wireless environment. Especially with Bluetooth and 2.4ghz. I’ve had that happen recently. Not with the widi master yet, but it’s definitely happened multiple times. It’s an unfortunate thing about Bluetooth type of stuff
I try not to use Bluetooth as little as possible. But the WIDI has been by far the most reliable device I have used in Bluetooth. Probably because it’s Bluetooth 5
hi Scott, I'm using a simple Behringer footpedal going into a Boss Guitar effects box. it looks like i only need the single plug for the footpedal out, and the dual plug for the effects processor in. communications only one way. after plugging each device in, will the two devices do an auto-discovery and link up?

More great stuff Scott! If I want to control my Behringer XR-18 with my MacBook via Logic or iPad using the apps you have shown, is the WIDI Master all I need for the XR-18 to receive commands just plugging into the XR-18’s MIDI Out? I appreciate your willingness to help us!
If I understand correctly, you would want to plug into MIDI IN on the x18 since you are trying to control the behringer with your laptop 👍 but yes, that should be all you need
@@ScottUhlMusic Thanks Scott. I just discovered that I can send MIDI commands via USB to the XR-18! The Behringer manual is lackluster on instructions. I just want to set points in Logic for it to increase the volume for a stereo-paired guitar channel for a lead section then reduce it again as a start to figuring it out. Your Logic video was very helpful for how to create a command change or program change. Now to see what the XR-18 needs to receive to change it!
@@scottbakernc It might be easier to turn up the volume on say a HX Stomp/Helix/Kemper/Axe FX or something like that if you are running that into the X18. Either would work, but that might be easier :) Just a thought!
@@ScottUhlMusic Agree totally. I use a Kemper and have it under control. My other guitarist is a level sandbagger and is constantly clipping the inputs by sending too much level to the mixer. So he agreed to let me control his leads and I can't perform and also tinker with sliders. So if I can just program the backing track in Logic to raise him up a little for his leads and back, I'll eliminate a host of discipline issues with him and sound challenges. If I can't get it to work then I'll just have to gate and compress his channels, but I'd rather just have him not messing with his level and let me raise him up in the mix and monitors when he solos. Sounds ridiculous doesn't it???
Hey Scott! Would this work for live applications for communicating patch changes wirelessly from a DAW (Logic) to a kemper? We have two kempers and would be running them both essentially. Thanks in advance! Your videos are always really helpful!

@09.42 you said you'd had issues with the Yamaha variant at a live concert 20ft away.... How many people were there? I need a pro level solution that won't drop out when you've got 10K punters at a gig all with Bluetooth devices in their pockets.. Sure it works fine at setup/line check or sound check when there's much less potential signal interference, but during a show?? Always have issues with weird note triggering (late notes, hanging notes etc) - or just general loss of bluetooth pairing
That was the Yamaha… NOT the WIDI master. But there were not that many people at the show. Maybe 75 people. I trust the WIDI much more. But Bluetooth can lose a pairing sometime. That’s always a risk, and I understand that

Sorry i would like to know, rather than connect a master to up to 4 slaves units. Can we connect a master (i think as a master an Akai MPC..) to a midi interface, and then to drive as much as the midi interface has of input and output. For me a midi interface with 5 inputs/5 outputs... Thx a lot...
@@ScottUhlMusic THANKS for replying🙏🏿! You’re like a Tylenol, you’ve relieved my headache. I tried to ask other RUclipsrs including CME Facebook page, and they would never respond. Thanks again! Now I’m going to buy it! 😊
The sounds from the keyboard are sent with audio, not midi. Midi does not “send audio” but sends information to tell midi sounds what to play (which note, how long to let the note ring, velocity, etc). I’m not exactly sure what setup you are going for, but to get the sounds out of your keyboard, you could use another midi controller that controls your keyboard, but that seems a little redundant
Interesting question… I don’t know, but my guess would be no. But they do have the “widi bud pro” which is a usb stick that does the same thing. My best bet would be to have two laptops with the widi bud pro and one widi master. That would make the most sense to me 👍
So, I have no Bluetooth on my desktop. I have an android. I have a 30-year-old (or so) Casio MIDI guitar and I want to transport to a Kawaii MIDI patch device that will accept 4 MIDI inputs and 8 MIDI outputs. Does this mean that I need two Widi Masters? So, one Midi Master goes into My Casio MIDI out, and another Midi Master into the MIDI in of the patch bay? Does this mean that the smaller 5 din pin is not used on any device? Thanks, as I'm really confused on how to pair the guitar to the Kawaii Midi in.
Yup, it sounds like you will need 2 widi masters. But with a midi product that old, that might have something I’m not aware of. If it needs something more than a 5pin midi, check out the widi Jack as a possible option: ruclips.net/video/GZVG2UfwJ4w/видео.html
@@ScottUhlMusic Thanks for the reply. So, I found out that two Midi Masters will work. I put the receiving unit in one of the MIDI ins of the patchbay and power it by putting the Midi Master into an output of the patchbay. It worked well. Then I removed the receiving MIDI master from the patchbay and put in the UBS powered MIDI jack into the patchbay and powered it directly by a USB power source. It too worked perfectly. So now I have Two MIDI masters and one MIDI jack. I am now going to try to pair both MIDI masters to work together, both as transmitters. Then, I hope to put a transmitter into my MIDI guitar, and a second transmitter into my EWI (AKAI electronic woodwind ). I only play one instrument at a time and so I'm hoping that both MIDI guitar and the EWI can share the same receiver on the patchbay. Clear as mud?

One WIDI device will take that central role (turquoise led indicator) following your manual settings through the WIDI App when creating the group.
So this means it wouldn't be possible. I could get another pair of midi adapters and pair them separately???
Oh interesting…. I would have to mess with that. You can email them to find out. You could also set certain devices to only read on specific midi channels. That would help too!”
Hi Scott. Thanks for your great videos. I have a question about two of your videos:
WIDI Master - Wireless MIDI Adapter - Demo and Review
Wireless Midi Adapter - Yamaha MD-BT01 - Midi Over Bluetooth
Is there a difference between this two devices and what do you prefer now? I mwant to buy a device to control a Catalyst 200 with my Helix. What do you think is the better device?
Greetings from Germany
Roland
100% prefer the WIDI stuff over the Yamaha, no question 👍
@@ScottUhlMusic Thanks for your fast answer. So i have to buy WIDI Master for the Helix and a WIDI Jack for my Catalyst or other Devices. That should be the best solution for all scenarios, i think. I'm right?
Very Good and informative video! Thank you! I have a question: i have a Guitar amp which i can Control the Channels only per midi (revv g20). It has a Midi in but no Midi out. Can i use the widi to control the Channels wirelessly with my hx stomp? And do i Need only 1 widi or 2?
TY!
In that case, you would want the widi JACK: ruclips.net/video/GZVG2UfwJ4w/видео.htmlsi=i_yhwUdnU9Dkwnpy
Hey question, if you can connect the widi master up to the keyboard , do you know of a way where you could connect either the samsung gear or apple watch amd use that as a metronome if you wanted to create a pattern loop while being live...so that you dont have to hear the click or sound of the metronome from the keyboard
It could just light up and vibrate the watch as the count in while being live...?
No it doesn’t have that feature with it
Can you chain multiple devices together? we use 3 kempers, each on a separate global midi channel and they all get their own messages at the same time(chain) can you use multiple widis to do this? im sorry if you have explained this and i havent seen it
I believe you can, I just haven’t done it
hey Scott, can I flip the midi in and out so that the out goes to the small connector and the in to the big one with the headphones in? I ask this because the power chord to my fractal fm3 does not have enough clearance for the headphone jack. I cannot plug it to the midi out.
If you are having trouble getting it to fit, try the Widi Jack instead: ruclips.net/video/GZVG2UfwJ4w/видео.htmlsi=XHkvaAdx7SXlTWhr
Yes I believe you can do that in the app itself. I’ve never done it that way, but I’m pretty sure that’s how it’s done!
is this device has internal battery to power the BT ?
The midi out of almost all devices that have MIDI OUT will send power to the device. In the rare case that it doesn’t, you can use this instead: ruclips.net/video/GZVG2UfwJ4w/видео.html
So am I right if I plug in the WIDI MASTER into my Casio DH - 100 (digital horn) I don’t need a hookup into my iPad (I only need the app on the iPad)?
If you are going out of the Casio and into the iPad, then yes, that’s all you need
Thanks for your amazing videos! You're channel is my new found go-to.
Question;
I have both the WIDI jack and WIDI master.
However today I uninstalled Midimittr from my iPad and it now seem to be more stable using a novation impulse controller as my page turner. Tonight I'll try the same on stage with my Helix and see if it works the same as today. Thanks for the quick reply!!
@@alvisreidmusic Yeah, midi is mostly just trial and error it seems! Glad it's working better
Is there a 13 pin version? From my gk3 mic on my guitar?
As of right now there is not
i have an old win xp with a midi program on my pc will widi work for win xp .thanks?
I’m not a windows guy, so I don’t know. But I believe it does?
HEY SCOTT. will i need two widi's to run hx stomp/ampero stomp with ampero control footswitch
Ampero footswitch will go into the footswitch in, not midi if I understand you correctly
@@ScottUhlMusic i would like to have the foot controller work the presets on the ampero stomp with the widi instead of running a cable from the foot controller to the ampero stomp. I`M SO CONFUSED LOL

@@ScottUhlMusic you are pretty gutsy to do those shows all wireless. I think I need some wired option for the iPad in case everything craps out
I try not to use Bluetooth as little as possible.
Yup they should 👍
Hi Scott. Now i bueyed a WIDIMaster for my Helix (MIDI IN and OUT) and a WIDIJack for my Catalyst 200 (WIDI IN and USB for Power).
They are not paired together.
Now I want to send MIDI signals from my iPad with MIDIpad 2 and midimittr to change presets and settings in the Helix and change settings in the Catalyst 200.
Can the iPad connect to WIDIJack and WIDIMaster at the same time?
Do have some Tips for a solution?
Thanks and sorry for my bad englich. I hope you understand me.
Greetings from Germany
Roland
You should be able to connect to two different WIDI devices at once from an iPad, yes 👍
@@scottbakernc Sounds like working with other musicians to me! 🤣🤣🤣
Hey Scott! Would this work for live applications for communicating patch changes wirelessly from a DAW (Logic) to a kemper? We have two kempers and would be running them both essentially. Thanks in advance! Your videos are always really helpful!
Yup! Definitely 🤘
@@ScottUhlMusic Would you be able to connect 2 widi masters via bluetooth to logic like you did in the video? Unsure if I'm able to pair more than one bluetooth midi device at a time?
@@Carrythedayofficial yup you can!
I got the WIDI Master and the WIDI UHost, I had some strange behavior from my Boss GT1000 which has built in Bluetooth for its Tone Studio connectIon! as well as my Macs native built in bluetooth. Should I turn them off if using the CME products?
Welcome to the midi headache. You will spend hours trying to fix something, and often times the solution is one switch that needs to be turned off in a global setting somewhere 😊 haha. Best of luck!
@@ScottUhlMusic Thanks, yes I know what you mean :-) I think it's a bluetooth issue rather than MIDI. My Macs MIDI Studio was a bit slow in seeing the connected WIDI UHost too. Gremlins I expect. Merry Christmas Scott🙂
Does this work with a Behringer 2600 and/or Behringer Model D? Not sure if they supply power on the MIDI pins …
I’ve never used those. But in case it doesn’t, you can always try the WIDI JACK which has an option to provide external power if you need it. I did a video on it here: ruclips.net/video/GZVG2UfwJ4w/видео.html
Can this be used as reciever only?
You mean you only want the device it’s plugged into to only receive info, but not send info? Sure, it might just take some configuration. I did a video explaining midi programming in case you need it: ruclips.net/video/IoUtshlzCTo/видео.html
@@ScottUhlMusic i need the main adaptor as a reciever. They mentioned in their manual that it can also acts as reciever of midi messages. But i dont know how to configure it. Have you tried that one already? Thanks
I have not set it up that way specifically. But if it says it’s able to in the manual, it should work. Likely it’s configured in the app 👍
I have a 2 keyboard setup for live performance, and I want to put one of these on each of them so they both connect to iPad for program changes. Will that work?
If both keyboards accept standard 5pin midi the yup 👍 I do something very similar with my setup
@@ScottUhlMusic awesome, thanks!
If you dont mind me asking how would I link multiple synths to my 1 synth using this?
Itd be a microfreak and volca fm to a deepmind 12
Thanks for any response!
I’m not familiar with this devices. But if you connect them to the midi in/midi out of your synths they do pair automatically 👍
@@ScottUhlMusicwould I have to get a midi pass through box? Would it be the midi out on fm to the midi in on microfreak and then the out from the microfreak to the in on the deepmind? how would I be able to pick the master? Pretty much want to be able to play the two with my deepmind 12
I’m not exactly sure what your setup is or the routing you are trying to do. But these take the place of the midi cables. So instead of going midi out of one into midi in on another, these would take the place of it 👍 if you need help with an advanced setup, I do offer consulting services over zoom. Can widi master midi bluetooth device connect in to the akai mpc x bluetooth. I want to sync keyboard sequence to akai mpcx sequence. It's possible or not possible. If it's not possible Please tell any other bluetooth midi device can connect in to the Akai mpcx bluetooth to sync keyboard sequence.
This device should turn anything that accepts standard 5pin midi into Bluetooth midi
That’s always a risk, and I understand that
Scott !!!!!! GREAT VIDEO !!!!!!!!! I have a WidiMaster and a WidiJack, BUT I can't get them to work together !!!!!!!!! The widiMaster is plugged into the HXeffects and the widiJack is plugged into my 3 channel amp. All I'm trying to do is change the amp channels with the HXeffects presets !!! I have not gotten the WIDIjack yet but it’s on my list. I honestly do not know. Are you getting the two units to connect with each other? Is it a connectivity or a midi problem?

@ScottUhlMusic the widi master is connected to my keyboard, using a Mac,and a Daw( Cubase 13), I can play with the keyboard any vst instruments, then when I try to record the midi information in a Cubase, nothing happening
What was the name of the midi iPad app? I can’t find MIDI Meter app?
WIDI is the app
Or midimittr
Sorry i would like to know, rather than connect a master to up to 4
slaves units. Can we connect a master (i think as a master an Akai
MPC..) to a midi interface, and then to drive as much as the midi
interface has of input and output. For me a midi interface with 5
inputs/5 outputs... Thx a lot...
I’m not sure I’m understanding your setup, but with the WIDI you are supposed to be able to use multiple ones at the same time
This may be a stupid question but, does it work in the DAW FL studio?
Yup, anything that accepts midi this will work with
@@ScottUhlMusic THANKS for replying🙏🏿! You’re like a Tylenol, you’ve relieved my headache. I tried to ask other RUclipsrs including CME Facebook page, and they would never respond. Thanks again! Now I’m going to buy it! 😊
Nice! Enjoy 🤘
@@ScottUhlMusic oh, another question. Can I use the sounds from the keyboard instead of the sounds from GarageBand? And how do i do that?
The sounds from the keyboard are sent with audio, not midi. Midi does not “send audio” but sends information to tell midi sounds what to play (which note, how long to let the note ring, velocity, etc). I’m not exactly sure what setup you are going for, but to get the sounds out of your keyboard, you could use another midi controller that controls your keyboard, but that seems a little redundant
One widi to two laptops? Posible?
These things are almost too good to be true. Apparently CME sells chips to allow manufacturers to add it to devices...that'd be lovely
Yup, such a great ecosystem!
Hey Scott 👋
