Apple's Mainstage is another great app for managing your entire live gig, changing patches as necessary. Worth a play if you haven't checked it out yet.

Mine automatically changes the amp block to Y, and I can't stop it. Even when i use cc100 it does not change X and Y, it just stays on Y. Anyone else have this problem?
Please tell me, I want to control by ipad’s backing trax, changing on my voicelive 3 xtreme, during playin, all switchin, I can do that by cubasis, but I want to use lyrics sometimes, onsong probably works just for switchin songs. Got to be a simpler way. Need to have a set list on ipad touch screen that touching the song title will change midi presets. I think set list maker app does this.
I have a macmillen 12-step. I would like to be able to change the presets without stepping on the selector button on the 12-step. I would rather just click on an ipad or laptop to change the presets on the 21-step. . Is there a way to do that with this setup or can you suggest a way to do this. I called Sweetwater however I couldn't get the information I needed,

The problem here is that you have to load the file in your DAW on stage. Surely someone has developed an app that can play a 2-track audio file along with MIDI events. If the audio was recorded to the same tempo as the midi file, it would be synced... right?

Could you do this with VST instruments? Using program changes to switch what Voice you have loaded?
Hey there. Yes, you should certainly be able to do this with VST instruments, as well. Instead of routing that MIDI information out to the live instruments you’re playing, you would simply route that MIDI information internally to whatever VSTs you want to switch to and from.

Or does every unit have be on the same preset number at the same time??
You can create a separate midi track for each external device in your Ableton template that stays routed to send to each particular device’s midi channel. Then it’s just a matter of dropping in the various PC, CC, Note values, or whatever MIDI information you need sent on each track where you want it.
You can even make frequently used clips on each track ahead of time and save them in your Ableton template. That way the clips can easily be grabbed when needed.

Can this only be done this way in Arrangement view?
No, it can also be done in Session View each change just needs to be on a midi clip the same length as the backing track stems, then added to a midi track on the same scene in Session View. That way the midi track controlling external gear plays back in time with the backing track when each scene is launched.
Does that mean all those instruments running through one computer?

This is just to change patches, it does not interfere with a performance, rather improves it to use valuable time instead of taking huge amount of time changing presets live by hand.
