My lord technology is just killer! A board like this in 84' would have costed millions of dollars because of its versatility and range of technological prowess.
I've been using my headrush for over a year. I got to use it at a gig for the first time this weekend. The soundcheck took like 5 minutes. My contribution was about 1 minute. It is incredible!!!
I have used my eleven rack for ages. It was finally time to upgrade. So I went with this. No regrets so far. The touch screen is even better than it looks. It feels the most like fiddling with actual stomp boxes. Fun machine!
I use my Eleven Rack for recording with the UI and save /load sound to/from my computer for different songs. I friggin love the Eleven rack. Like you, I have also upgraded recently but went old school and bought a 120W Head and 160W 2X12 Cab with 8 pedals. Haven't used it for recording yet cos I need to purchase an SM57 but can't wait to mic it all up. It's gonna sound killer!
I just ordered this bad boy from amazon, can't wait for it to get here. The user friendliness and the overall kick ass sounds you were getting out this thing sold me on it.
Every time i listen to your riffs, whatever the song, clinic, gear review, i always remember you talking with the captain of Darrel's riff making abilities. Ola you truly honor his legacy! That 20 sec riff at the start just make my week. Keep up the good work, waiting for the haunted new album, greetings from Argentina.
I would be very interested in a tone comparison of the Headrush vs. your AX8 using some patches you personally would typically use. Any chance you could make that happen?
Looking forward to you getting your hands on the Prime. Would love to see a side-by-side tone comparison if you still have the original Pedalboard. If not, well I still want to see you metal-fy the new one haha.
So I'm still using the Line6 POD 500x because I've been on the fence on what to buy....Helix...Helix LT..AxeFX...Kemper, etc. I'm glad I've waited because I like the touchscreen on the Headrush. Plus they will be adding more amps, effects, etc. as they make them. The Headrush also has some really good metal tones, I've watched a ton of demo's. I'm not an amp / pedal board guy...just too lazy so this type of pedal board is my speed. This one is at the top of the list for me...thanks for the review.
!!! If anyone is looking a HeadRush, make sure you checkout the MX5....same CPU as the big boy. I run also run the AXE FX III and I'm telling you now, this little box is absolutely amazing.
A lot of most excellent options and tech... easy for beginners and enough for pro players and anything in between. Great vid as always Ola and May the Schwartz be with you \m/
This is very much what I've been looking for. I've wanted a less expensive modeler with an easy to use interface. I'll have to see if I can find one in a store to check out before I shell out cash, but it looks promising to begin with.
This is the one thing I wanted the Axe Fx guys to do with there system since i played a round with my Ultra. Doing Knob jumping, and button pushing to get things done when we have had Phones that have been doing this for years is retarded.
Renaissance Man indeed. I use an old digitech rp500. To see how powerful & great multi effect today with touch screen where the smartphone doing this for many years make me want to cry.. 😭
Hej Ola, do you plan to do a Helix/AX8/Headrush battle ? The comparison can be interesting for ppl (like me) who wants a amp simulator/pedalboard/multi-effects for around 1k-1,5k €, they also share a lot of similarities. Thanks and keep rocking, u da best.
Fabulo He's done a shootout with the AX8 and Helix, they're somewhere on his channel. Generally, if you can spare the extra cash I'd just go with the AX8 because it just seems to sound better overall in my opinion as it is essentially an Axe FX II. But if you're just looking for simplicity (as the Helix is a much more straight forward unit) and a good tone that you won't bother going into specifics for, I'd go with the Helix. If i remember correctly, both can be plugged in via USB to your computer to use the editor software without the need of a interface as well although I may be mistaken about the AX8.
I still haven't used the 4CM with the Headrush and my Mesa MKIV. I've just been using it through the power amp section. Still sounds great though. I used my HD500 through the boogie for years using the 4CM.
I came from using the eleven rack and it always sounded better and felt alive, for me it’s between this and the Helix, I really like the editing option on the headrush for on the fly live use
Great video, this seems like an amp modeler I'd actually like. And it's not terribly expensive either. My main issues with these things still remain though - I hate putting all my eggs in one basket. At home, I could definitely get into it, but in a live setting with beer, and sweat, and stumbling in the dark, and getting *all* your sound through the PA-system.. I'm weary. I've had too many gear malfunctions on stage to let it all ride on this one piece of equipment, and none of them have happened to those sorts of things. Losing it all is a nightmare.
There is switch on the back that says amp to line, which I would assume allows you to set it to a amp level that could go into the guitar jack. The affects loop has a switch for Stomp to rack, so I would guess if you set it to rack it is line level, then you could by pass your amps pre amp. These are my guesses.
Absolutely amazing! Unfortunately, a little expansive. Btw... since some weeks, I really fell in love with my new looper. This thing brings my playing to another level, because it pulls you out of your comfort zone and "forces" you to be creative (and precise). I just can recommend that to everyone who wants to improve massively and have tons of fun! :)
Ola Englund If you were to choose either the Axe 8 or the Headrush, which one would you choose and why? Considering sound, user interface, build quality, etc which one did you prefer? Thank you for the awesome review, and I look forward to your response!
Very nice product and very clear and honest review. I remember when everyone was able to buy this type of product for about 400 to 500 bucks but then fractal audio came and fucked all the shit selling things for about 1500 to 2000 bucks. Now, looks like the whole industry wants to achieve those prices 😢
i love this thing i need to save some money and get one already i held of getting a line 6 or axfx and im glad i did bc i would of sold it to get one of these
This seems similar to the more recent Line 6 pods. i think it would be cool to see a comparison video with the two showing both their better amp sims and how they sound as pedal rigs for real amps.
In the end all units, different as they are have their similarities as well, so let's get over that. The touchscreen is really a good selling point, though the graphics are how to say...not efficient, it's big and clunky. The stomps are big squares, light colors with white characters and what's the switch on it going to do? Maybe, if there's no more functionality like complex signal paths to show it's okay they have these sizes, but it looks cheap..maybe nicer graphics would do the job. Flow of assigning effects to switches is great. I really love what I can do with the Helix (rack + control), but this is even more direct and easy. Only 3 parameter edits on one page, again with a lot of space on the touchscreen used for these parameters..would have preferred smaller blocks and more parameters...just have to scroll a bit more then. Sound wise, it will get there and have its happy users. There are some real experts around who can show what these units can do and there's even more (me included) that have way to go learn how to do the same. Good sound is as Ola mentioned the main criteria. So I guess it can make its way to the market and some others may come up next with a touchscreen as well. So then we have a headrush rip off. Let them come, more choice, more fun. We cannot all afford the gold standard of the modeler market.
really cool floorboard, you could take this and hook it straight into a PA and you're done. So can you compy IR's from say... a torpedo studio or live into this? if that box has IR's you are addicted to.
I have and 11Rack and even though it has some really bad sounding presets there are plenty of really good ones especially if you spend some time with the unit. Also, the Eleven technology was one of the best ones when it comes to the feel which is on thing that the digital modelers could not get right and still haven't imo. I tried the Helix native and have tried the latest PODs and they just don't sound or feel good enough. I think the Headrush wins over Helix and anything under it's price range. Why? because of the feel, it's flexible, it has setlist view so you can arrange songs etc.
Ola - always good stuff man. You are my GO TO - when i search for reviews now. also, I put an event together years ago called the Classical Guitar Cruise - from Long Beach, CA to the Mexican Riviera for a week of concerts, workshops, master classes and more...I'm putting another one together ( The Ultimate Guitar Cruise) adding electric guitar to the line up of classical, flamenco, micro-tonal and more..this will be a guitar school at sea with 10% NAMM like features by guitar manufacturers. Let me know if this interests you as I'd like for you to be apart of this event of mine. Best,.. ~RONA
What about the tones thought? I'm not saying do it over again but like how you did with the 4 way shootout with the other modelers, maybe just edit this one into that video? Up to you thought, The ease of use of this seems to be best out of the others
I'm torn between getting the headrush frfr 108 or yamaha hs5 stereo pair (possibly hs7, have to see them at the store). I play only at bedroom volumes. Any advice? I'm talking about a setup where I plug the HR pedalboard straight into speakers, no external audio interfaces
Avid as much as I'm a Pro Tools user since it is what I know the best and Digidesign at one point I thought we're beginning to see sense, Have really dropped a bollock letting so much talent go, The ELEVEN Rack/ELEVEN HD people just a few of so many, I hope them nothing but success at the time and so good to see their work being taken further as is the case with the guy behind Headrush. I'm usually very unimpressed with the all-in-one boxes but since Fractal hit their stride with the AXE FX 2 Ultra, Kemper carved out their dynamic convolution but done differently than Sinetefex and acustica's Nebula, I have heard some very good pieces, This is definitely one of the best and the price is very good I believe for the overall package, Anyone that plays live regularly would find this a perfect tool for the way it is so simple to change parameters without having to go to the touch screen. Top notch demo as usual Ola, All the best and cheers
@Ola Englund How did you find the sound quality compared to the Helix? I am drawn to this unit for ease of use and the price tag, but if the overall modeling and high gain sound is better on the Helix I wouldn't mind spending the extra money for my studio.
Hey Ola, i see you do a lot of reviews on modelers, and i was wondering which is your favorite? I haven't seen you express which you like the best. Have you ever thought about making a video on this? Thanks
+Hola Joseph it's hard to say, I think we've come to a point where basically the top of the line modelers are equal in terms of the sound as long as you work with them. So now it comes down to ease of use.
Nice Ola Thanks! maybe you can show us a little more on this unit, if you find the time and find more cool note worthy features. Any way thx again. Cheers🍻
Also, something I think would be cool is to see how different of a sound you get if you record through an expensive interface like you have or something like a scarlett solo or 2i2/2i4 interface. I'm curious just how different it would be and if it is worth spending more money on an interface.
I just made a video comparing the Green JRC to a real tubescreamer, the tone control on the JRC at the center is the equivalent to full CCW on the TS9. If this is the same Green JRC from the original Eleven and the AAx plugin then it might be convenient to keep that in mind.
Yogurt ! \m/ Everyone here , anyone who reads this. Subcribe to this gentleman right here. Great vids and you'll learn a lot. One with the Schwartz and Force he is...
In comparison with the Kemper, what is the versatility like with the different amps. Obviously the Kemper amp library is massive and you can profile your own amps. How does the the Headrush compare with adding new amp tones etc.?
I had a Kemper. Twice - second time with the foot controller. I now have a Headrush. The bottom line is you can make good sounds and the people you play for do not have as a tuned ear as you do as a musician! Go for it - easy editing and pretty much all you need in sounds as you play. With 270 presets and handsfree mode - with an extra expression pedal and for the price - what's not to like?
Helix is more full-sounding and natural. The headrush sounds like an eleven rack but (only a bit) better. Headrush have a lot pf problems (it turns off without reason). Buy a helix le an helix lt
They gave me the 1st one & it is simply the Easiest & Baddest on the block!!
You the man Rex

Thank you, for this demo, you demoed the one ability of this pedal I was looking for and that was the ability to have that un squeezed metal tone
This video has sold me on the Headrush and youve sold me on subscribing to your channel.
Thanks Ola! This is one of the first reviews that I have seen since it was introduced at NAMM earlier this year.
Ola you rule bro! Just got my own Headrush unit coupled with a Peavey XXX head with El-34's and omg the tone I have always wanted!
Looking forward to you getting your hands on the Prime.
Would love to see a side-by-side tone comparison if you still have the original Pedalboard. If not, well I still want to see you metal-fy the new one haha.
im usually not interested in multi fx pedalboards, but this one seems really bad ass.
Great review and demo of the Headrush pedalboard.
I must buy.
Wow....this is surprisingly good!!! I did some recording with a buddy using the Eleven Rack and wasn't thrilled with the tones, but this is nice!
This doesn't sound much better though...
I beg to differ...this sounds clearer, more "lively"...but then again in person could be a whole different ball game.
It does have a quad core processor in it. You would think that would help it sound much better then the original eleven rack.
Or even just have more DSP to handle more complex rig set ups
CreamFreshCream. You're a helix owner, and now you want to bash the headrush because you own the helix, and are stuck with it. L.O.L
Thank you guy, it makes on almost one year for which I look what pedals of modelling I have to choose and your video comes of acter my choice!!!
Just bought mine today. Love it!

Thanks for a great demo...got my Head yesterday and looking forward to gentiles it going

Ola, always providing high quality content. Thanks man
Finally i found someone able to demonstrate this unit ...not really my cup of coffee 4 the style but at least very clear explanations...
Please, make a video-audio comparison with the Helix!
At least this should up the game in displays on modelers. They always go cheap on the LCD/LED displays.

agree Fractal needs to step up their game with LCD color interface and better user controls. Then they will beat both Line6 Helix and Headrush!

Be aware to listen to ax8 tones with the Q8.01 firmware loaded. There's a quite drastic improvement in tone.
Женя Караяни Yes, i would personally prefer the Line 6 Helix LT over this Headrush board.

When you create a loop can you save it? Are there any limitations to it like only xx amount of minutes to create and save the loop?
Looks like a candidate for comparison with Kemper, Helix, and AxeFX. But vs Helix, how do features compare? Looks like the user interface is better.
Yeah, but this unit has Eleven Rack software. It's just not as good as AX8 or Kemper...
CreamFreshCream. Agree, but it sounds better than the helix xt
Helix is more full-sounding and natural. The headrush sounds like an eleven rack but (only a bit) better. Headrush have a lot pf problems (it turns off without reason). Buy a helix le an helix lt
