Thanks for making this. I'm looking forward to seeing more. One of the best and concise explanations I've seen on RUclips. Amazing homie! I've always wanted to learn how to do this since starting my VFX journey a few years ago! A few things I'd add tho is suspension physics on the car, (subtle), surface imperfections, specular in-camera effects in regards to the metallic car materials according to the angle of the sun, slight motion blur (very subtle), and i think last but not least exhaust fumes from the car (its probably subtle for this kinda car, idk lmao im not a car guy) but nontheless amazing my guy i still needa learn how to master this process but as time goes by I'll try to improve my renders to include all of the above! Cheers dude, keep doing what ur doing!

    Perfect bro, only a question, why Blender 2.79?

    • @ClassyDogStudios
      @ClassyDogStudios  4 года назад +89

      Oh, the main reason is because I didn't know how to set up my render passes in the newer versions of Blender, since I was used to having groups and layers instead of just collections! And there were so many shots to create for that video, I decided to stick with the version I was comfortable with. Though I want to start using the new versions of Blender for videos soon, especially with all the new features being added.

    For CG objects that will be partially obscured by the original footage, will you have to mask it out frame by frame in compositing or is it possible to set up certain "objects" in blender that will not render the main CG object when it passes through that "object"?

    that was a good intro for the workflow... however theory from practice is something very very different. Looks easy but it isn't at all for us who we are beginners. We would appreciate a tutorial :)

    Want to know something... Is there an option to lock the grab direction other than xyz? For example, in rhino , there an option to lock the direction that the cursor is moving.. Just move in a direction .. press tab key.. then the movement is locked to that specific direction and we can type the measurement or snap it to anywhere... Something like that in blender?

      Oh, that sounds handy. You know, I've never come across that ability in Blender. Perhaps someone with experience using Blender as more of a CAD program would know more than me, as I think there are some plug-ins for it out there that focus more on that type of work.

    The only problem here: The shadow catcher does not account for indirect lighting, emission or anything like that. It outputs a greyscale shadow (which shadows aren't) and also doesn't account for reflection. Blender needs a huge shadow catcher overhaul.

      As an alternative, you could try rendering the ground plane with a light gray albedo, then use a blending mode such as multiply when compositing with it. You'll probably want to add a levels adjustment to it to better control the result. I used this method with another "GTA IRL" video I made years ago, and it worked fairly well.

      I may make a video on it if enough people are interested! By the way, have you seen this video from Grant Wilk? This is what I looked up to be sure I was using it correctly: ruclips.net/video/el_n1UfPL_M/видео.html
