    When you watch the hoarding shows, they usually mention that there are levels. Of course, they pick the level fours for the show because ✨️ drama ✨️, but those level four homes were once level ones... I grew up in a hoarded house and picked up a lot of those traits. Some are more easily broken than others.

      Hi April! Thank you! Its true I am at a lower level but still it impedes on the quality of not only my life but my entire family. I need to stop it now because it is getting out of control. Plus it steals so much of time and this is time I want with my family and to teach my kids how to be a good homemakers. I appreciate you so much!🥰 Have a beautiful day my friend!🌷🙏💪🤎

      Hi Kathie! 😭 My heart feels your pain. Please Never Ever Give Up!!! Your babes may be out fo the house but they are still in this world and they still need a functioning healthy Mama. I know the struggle but always remind yourself that youbare loved and needed by your children. Sometimes we forget that. They want you to get up and shower and go to therapy to get well so you can be around for them and their babies. Its a new season for you and change is uncomfortable but its also exciting. This is all part of Gods plan for you. You have new excitement to create for yourself and this means you will have to step outside of your comfort zone and try new things and meet new people. You need to take csre of yourself so you can go live the happy life that you deserve. What is one thing that you always wanted to do but couldnt because you had to be home with the kids?? Now go do it! And think of others and do others! And come back and let me know how its going. I expect to hear back from you! Once you get that happy dopamine rush you will get motivated to clean you home too! There is so much life for you to live! Dont give it up! Praying for you! Stay Mighty & God bless!🙏🤎💪💐

    As far as the mental illness it has to do with your reaction to even the idea of letting go. Someone can have a lot of things (a hoard) and not qualify as having hoarding tendencies. It has to do with emotionally reacting and having severe anxiety over letting go of things. This is why I like to clearify that I have hoarding tendencies to help people understand that for me it goes beyond just having things. But even if you dont have those tendencies and you just have things, I don't think it is wrong to say you hoard. It's just a different kind of hoarding. ❤
    I dont know if u have been medically diagnosed, but from watching your video I see lots of similar tendencies to my hoarding habits. It's important to know that you can improve when it comes to hoarding and you are using many techniques that are recommended to hoarders including photographing things to ease the pressure of letting them go. I love that you were talking through your reasons for keeping or letting go; that is so helpful for hoarders. Great video!
    Edit: googone is the best for removing sticky labels to repurpose containers.

    For things that are personalized, it may seem crazy to donate it, but there are lots of people that do DIY's and repurposing. So things like the platter could be painted over. Clothing can be cut into pieces, or they may use it just to practice a new technique on. So just a reminder that not everything has to be "used as is".

    I keep going back and forth on suggesting this because I sooooo understand that there is stuff that we NEED to get rid of, ESPECIALLY if we’re not using it. So please just accept this as me, a fellow recovering hoarder, just tossing out this idea even if it’s a very bad one:
    As far as the platter with the signatures on it… is there a place in your house where you could hang it on the wall or display on a shelf as decor with other wedding memorabilia? You said you don’t like the color or style so I perfectly understand why that idea will absolutely not work and why you didn’t want to ever do that. Either way, I understand why either keeping it or getting rid of it would be a struggle and I’m proud of you for being strong decisive enough to let it go. Sentimental stuff is especially hard for me to toss.

    You know what helped me declutter a lot of sentimental items was realizing that i actually felt kinda sad when i saw those things. Yes it made me remember sweet times, but it came with a sad emotion. However, if i just remembered that person who had past, or just remembered my sweet tiny newborn babies, I could just feel happy about the memory. The physical item made me kinda sad. So i just let those things go and i can have peace in knowing that those times were sweet, even if i don't always remember every single one.

I struggle with this the most now because I am going to making over my entire home and so I am afraid to get rid of certain things because I may need it once a room is finished and then I will live with that regret. 🤪 Its enough to drive me cray. I know once I can finish homemake overs the decluttering will be easier for me because then i will know. Thats why I did start my kids room makeover because I have my entire frontroom stored with all of their stuff. I cant decide what to keep until I see the space done. I get suggestions here to declutter first but I am thinking I may do more makeovers so I can choose things to declutter easier. Oh my! Why do we put so much energy into things!! I get uoset at myself when i do this. In the end none of it matters but only people do.😭 I have a lot of self work to do. Thanks for being here for me too! Stay Mighty! Do the best you can and then go over it again later. It amazes me how I will think I have decluttered because I reduced a category by 50%+ then look again and realize I need to get rid of at least half yet again. My main issue is not over shopping and cluttering my place again. In one of the decluttering/minimalism videos I watched someone said "If you have too much stuff, no matter how you organize it it will look messy." This quote has helped me so much. Sometimes when I declutter and then organize it still feels wrong, and usually the problem is there is still too much.

      Hi Crystal! I am so sorry you havent been feeling well. It really sucks when our physical health hokds us down. I do not have Fibromyalgia but I have a few family members who do. I understand it wipes them out and causes alot of physical pain which I believe transfers to mental pain so you are truly fighting a tough battle each day. My heart goes out to you. My best advice would be to start keeping track of when your bad days appear and when your good days appear. Maybe there is a pattern you do not recognize yet. Or maybe there are triggers that flare up the fibro. I am sure stress is a big one. Stress causes any inflammation and that can wreak havic on your body and mind. So start paying atten and record the date and times of day. Draw a smile face for good times and sad face for bad. Do thisbfor about two week and see if there is a pattern. Then for the next week see if it repeats and try to schedule that decluttering during those good times of your week. Being a Mama alone is so exhausting so I feel you. Hey have you watched my natural rems for anxiety and panic attacks video ruclips.net/video/yT8ME5C3t-Q/видео.html
      If not check it out, I believe these tips can be beneficial overall for your physical and mental health and give you more energy. And also, be sure you are drinking lots of water all day. Get yourself a big water bottle and be sure to drink at least one a day. Try these things and see what comes of it. Also, keep in mind that the clutter causes us to feel stressed just by looking at it so if you can find one moment of feel good and just start working through the clutter by the end of that session you will feel some of that stress melt off. Getting started is always the hardest part so the only way to get through it is to do it!! Get up walk over to the clutter and start with one thing and soon your natural motivation will kick in! You may surprise yourself! I will be praying for you to find that strength and motivation and drive to keep going and that you find the perfect job! Always here for you! I will be back with more messy to minimal this week! You got this!!💪🙏🤎🌷😘

    • @MightyMama
      @MightyMama  2 года назад +1

      Also, ask for help! Thats something we as Moms rarely think of but we do need help. So maybe a family member or friend can take your daughter for a day and you can really get into it. And then do that again the next week until the clutter gets easier where you can do it with your daughter. I wait until my okder kids are home from school so they can watch my little guy because decluttering and kids definitely do not mix!🤪🤣😘

Thank you for this concept & thought process. ❤️❤️

    Yes, there are different types of hoarding. Some are from over-shopping, I’ve seen many shows on this. I have a problem with my husband not wanting to throw things away. He sees value in old things, even if they have no practical use. He stores stuff in boxes, then refuses to throw them away. He saves everything! I have a problem with ‘gifts’. People give me things for birthdays and Christmas that I don’t need or use but I feel guilty about throwing them away. I could use some advice about both these topics! Help!

    • @MightyMama
      @MightyMama  2 года назад

      Hey girl! My husband is the same way. Him and his little stashes in boxes. Drives me nuts! Hes like a squirrel. 🤣🤣 And our garage!! I cant! He saved almost every single tool of his Dads after his passing. Has never used one of those tools! We also have a hotdog cart, an old arcade game that doesnt always work and just bins and boxes of old stuff he hasn't touched in 13 years!! Honestly, I havent figured out how to solve this problem yet but when I do I will definitely share here and in a video. As for gifts honestly just donate them or regift. Seriously, its not worth the headache the guilt and then the weight of the clutter in your home just to save a gift from someone out of guilt. Get rid of it! Get rid of that stress! Save yourself the headache. You are not responsible for loving everything that is gifted to you. You did not ask anyone to buy you anything so you are not responsible to take care of this item for the rest of your life if you choose not to. Moving forward try and adapt to this mindset when it comes to recieving. I know it sounds harsh but its okay to not like things and its okay to give it to someone else who will. Its not like your family or friends are going to follow up on the gift and see how you have been caring for it. 🤣 I am sure there is at least one person that you gifted and they didnt like it and donated it. But they will never tell you and that is okay. In gift recieving all you are required to do is accept it with a smile say thank you and go about your life after the party. Lol! I am not laughing about this or you. I can totally relate to how you feel and I know how hard it can be . It was me for many years and that is part of the clutter I am dealing with now. Gifts from others that just didnt serve a purpose but kept getting shifted around my house or only used once out of guilt. Thinking I had too or even with my kids gifts. Knowing they will not like it or use it. I would still make them use it at least once because I felt like they were obligated to since it was a gift. Plus I come from a poor childhood and so we were conditoned to use anything we can get. All these years later I have realized that its okay to donate stuff if I dont love it or use it. And its always nicer to donate brand new so I am really good now about decluttering the gifts after a party and seperating what I know the kids will not use. Then I am able to donate it new which is nice or even regift it. I rather give it to someone who really needs the item. Whether it be through goodwill, a gift to a coworker or my kids even. I rather see it serve its purpose then to have it just sitting around my house collecting dust because of my own hangups. Its time to free yourself from the weight of gifts that youndo not like or need. Pass it on and free yourself!🦋 You got this! And in the meantime I will be working on a way to deal with our husbands clutter! 🤣 Stuff will be the death of me! Lord help us!🙏💪🤎😘

      Thank you! Great advice. Yes, the men in our lives need to let go of stuff. Fortunately, I own the kitchen, it’s an eat in kitchen. Everything is organized and put away, the room has a bit of an echo, clear table, you can see walls, nothing on the floor except furniture legs and cat dish. Bathroom the same way. Everything put away but soap dish and hand soap. It’s easier to clean that way. I will keep trying! Lol. 😃

    All I can say is God led me to your video this evening. I readily admit that I’m a hoarder and I’m also depressed and have zero energy just about everyday. I take meds for my depression but when I have a bad day, I buy “stuff”-either at a resale shop, TJ Maxx, The Dollar Twenty-Five Cent Tree (lol!), or online. When I buy things, I can picture, in my mind, where I want to put them or use them….except I never do and they just keep adding up until, at this moment, there’s barely a path through my house. The buying makes me happy at that time but whatever it is just gets thrown on something when I get home. I get sooooo frustrated with myself-Thank You for being real and helping others feel they’re not alone and giving us ideas and tips that are really doable and not too overwhelming.

    I saw my own struggles as I watched you trying to get rid of stuff. Even when it’s clear I have too much stuff, half or more is unused I still struggle to get rid of it
    Then I saw how your maybe pile kept growing and that seems like it’s part of the executive functioning issues that can cause people with ptsd or adhd to hoard. Instead of following through, your brain wants to stop halfway and focus on more rewarding actions and has trouble with decision making !
    But you’re trying and doing it ❤

    The price of hoarding:
    My husband (a hoarder) passed away almost 2 years ago. He collapsed at the end of the bed on the floor when he was supposed to pick me up at the hospital after my double mastectomy. I had to contact his sister who then got her brother involved. They knew nothing about their brother's hoarding (all they had to do was see the condition the car was in). Anyway, they forbid me to live there any longer with my son with me. He is 37 and blind. He weighed 1lb 5oz when he was born. I am 72 and now living in an apartment with my son. I won't be able to afford this much longer than maybe 2 more years. I have been trying to get the house cleaned up but not having much luck. I seem to do only yardwork. That also goes slowly because of southern summer heat! Hoarded cars, computer stuff everywhere, a former water leak leaving a mess under the mountains of stuff. I probably could have gotten a whole lot more cleaned up by now if I hadn't gotten kicked out of my mortgage- free house. When I decide what to keep, I think about someone else having to go through this hell. My neighbor wants to buy the house so I need to get a whole lot busier next year..that is my motivation.

    Take pictures of your sentimental items and put them in a album. That way you can look at it now and than. Do this with children's items too and give them the memory album when they graduate. I'm slowly decluttering myself. We moved into a very small 2 bedroom on a acre of land. I have so much I need to get rid of so my house doesn't look cluttered and junkie. My daughter has a hoarding problem so I need to go through it when she's at school. She is 16 yrs old. Thanks for sharing your journey.

    I would keep the plater and hang out on the wall or pack it away. I couldn't give up something so sentimental. And if I did I would definitely regret it. But that's just me. Hi Crystal! I totally know how you feel. Those things with my babies have got me in a hoarder hook. Those I must say the sentimental items that I am really going to struggle with when it comes to this minimalism journey. As for the platter I did sleep on it and I felt so good about letting it go the next day. Knowing I had the pics of it in my wedding album made it all better. Thats all I realy need. In this minimalism journey I am being very selective about what I am keeping and choosing to display as my goal is to spend less time on cleaning and more time with family. I appreciate you being here and helping me through it all. Stay Mighty!🤎💪🙏🌷

    We started minimalism a year and a half ago. We did not have a ton of stuff but we are in our 3rd house with 4 kids & so we accumulated things within the years.
    We started just tossing things that I wondered why I had kept. Styles & trends change; therefore, things my 1st child used will not get used by my 4th child. In addition, we got so good at buying less & less of things that the house looks minimal with 4 kids than it did with 3 kids.
    It took a year to clean out all the rooms, seasonal decor, the garage, bathroom items, etc. Good luck on your journey.

    Hoarding is a spectrum. It's holding onto different things for different reasons. If someone's upset because you say you're a hoarder even though you don't look like the extreme version of that, that's like arguing with someone saying they're an alcoholic even though they're not drunk all the time because they're trying to manage it. I always thought of hoarding as for example the people that grew up during the depression couldn't throw things away they would keep every receipt every scrap of fabric left over from making a dress etc. Also people who are collectors can be hoarders. But what I see on the show hoarders all the time just seems to me like people with an extreme mental disorder where there is feces everywhere bugs etc it's not really what I think of as hoarding.

But I still need to bust out the upright once a week to know I am not missing anything in the carpets and use my mop to bleach my kitchen floors!🤣 I would imagine it has been a lifesaver for you or anyone with a disability. Thank God for technology. Have a beautiful day my friend!🥰💪🙏🌷

    I say, if I don't use it for a whole 12 months then I don't need it! I go through stages of throwing and donating - it does feel good!
