And yet after the cell saga Toriyama had no editors so he did whatever he wanted during the Majinn Buu arc, right now he does not have any editors so he can do whatever he wants.
Angels probably don't go dormant if they lose their universe, because waiting for another God of Destruction would be pointless.
Also, Zeno is not strong in the common sense of the word because he simply doesn't fight. Who needs to fight when you can will anything out of existence?
TheXCross zeno is a walking delete button , but fragile as fuck. Thats prolly why all his guards and Grand priest get in to defend him if something happens
And probably why we're all so wary of the Grand Priest. Unlike Zen-Oh, he's powerful in the way we're all familiar with. And he's close to Zen-Oh at all times. The guy could probably axe Toddler-God at any time when the little guy isn't looking or suspecting it. But even though he's likely far more powerful than Zen, power doesn't mean much against someone who can create or delete whatever he wants just by willing it. Really, you can't have super-high stakes when Zenny can just come along and wipe out the problem with a thought. That was proved in the Goku Black arc. But what stakes could be higher than the strongest being in the multiverse staging a coup and taking out the one being with the ability to keep him in check?

Zen-O is extremely powerful, but he doesn't know how to fight, neither is he built for it. So yeah, even the likes of Hercule could probably curb him to the ground without much resistance... But he's so powerful that he'll probably get up without any damage whatsoever, and then delete the attacker out of existence. At least that's how I interpreted his character.
Grand Priest definitely talked Omni-King into universal destruction. When Omni-King destroys all universes, all the angels become dormant so won't have much to do, then the Grand Priest can spend some more time with them. All the guy wants is to spend time together with his children, is that really wrong? Calling it right now.

Whis said that the training he did with Vados happened a thousand years ago, and he also said that she hasn't been training anyone else or fighting since than, hinting that he is now in fact stronger than Vados.

I just love how you hit the nail on the head describing the character of Whis. Those traits are exactly why Whis is probably my all time favourite character. Its partly because i see a lot of similarities in myself, but that's what makes it so wonderful and unique in a way. A great video, thank you.
I think Whis differs from the other angels and the grand priest. If you really think about it, I really believe that the Grand priest and the angels are truly in charge and Zeno, though having great power, is more like a figurehead. So far we have seen the grand priest dictating what zeno "says". If you look at the last episode, you see that the grand priest has a sense of sadistic glee announcing the details of the tournament of power to everyone else. Seeing vados' reaction to champa means that there is more going on than meets the eye. If you think about it, "mortal level" might just mean in terms of universes that can be controlled. The lower the level, the more there is a chance for a revolt of what the grand priest and angels have in mind for what they consider order. So why not have them fight it out to prove their loyalty and eliminate the rouge elements. Whis' reactions to this means he might have a different moral center than his family, but could be swayed by food.
My reasoning for this theory goes back to the basis of which dragon-ball comes from. Since we know that Journey to the West was Chinese in origin, we could tie that in to zeno and the grand priest. Remember, sometimes the emperor may have been a child and he was viewed as a god. The attendants would go out and perform acts in the name of the emperor, saying they were told to it by the emperor. Sounds similar to me.

Guess I'm not the only one comparing the hierarchy of the gods to the structure of ancient Chinese imperialism. I can readily agree that there are numerous similarities. Although there's no way of knowing whether Zeno ages or not, the grand priest seems like someone with a position akin that of a regent king.

My guess, about the "angels becomming dormant" part, is this: If the GoD or SK is killed in any conventional way, like when Shin was offed by Babidi in F-Trunks' timeline, then the Angel becomes dormant until such a time that either Zeno or perhaps the GP appoints a new GoD, perhaps as a punishment for letting the GoD or SK die. However, if the universe gets wiped out by Zeno, then the GP steps in to save his kid, not wanting to have them die. Which makes you wonder... where are the six Angels from the now destroyed universe 13-18?

Masako, how about a video about how the Dragon Ball franchise, at its core, is a parody of pop culture, myths and legends, and even itself sometimes? I feel like this is something we take for granted, especially with how dramatic Dragon Ball Z could be. Given Toriyama's past work, he still has the mind of a parody writer and it shows in how he plays with people's expectations and how whacky (yet oddly familiar) his ideas are.

Yep, from a big tree called Kaiju. The regular fruits grow into core people, and the golden ones into Supreme Kais. Whenever a position for a regular kai (like King Kai) opens up the new kai is chosen from the core people by lottery.

Well, he knows about it at least. His Warp ability is definitely not on it's level, but I assume he could use the "Kai Kai" if he wanted to.
he cannot. which is strange given that supreme kai can use "kai kai" which allows instant travel anywhere no matter what yet whis and the other angels seem to need to travel although kai kai cannot move between universes while angel travel can so its a matter of functionality.

+freakyskull516 I suspected this as well, I think from supereme kai to the angels, they are all tailored made to perform specific tasks. An angel just need to follow the destroyer to make sure he/she isn't going rogue, given the immense speed and time rewind would probarbly make "kai kai" not useful, they are also fast enough to leave the universe within a reasonable amount of time.
Then there's the of the destroyer gods, it seems there the ones out of kai and angels that posses immense power needed for destruction far beyond planetry, and can even travel without the aid of gods. Their role is to take away the judgment from the kais, their a neccsary evil in a way given that if a kai had the destructive powers of a destroyer god they would be a law to their own. However destroyer gods can choose not to destroy a world, they have the power needed for destruction and character but they are kept in check.
Kai's are the weakest and while not tailored purely to be good, it's clear their role is to mentor civilizations and judge which had their day and must be left to a destroyer god. They are also a safety check in case a destroyer god rebels and somehow overcomes their aide. Which probabrbly explain why they have "kai kai" because they can (in theory) elude a dangerous god and inform grand priest etc.
However having kai kai travel outside the universe is a complicated recton given how the kais could have dealt with buu all along, then again the grand priest is feared and probarbly wiped out their universe entirely.
All in all it is clear that there is a more detailed idea to thefunction of these higher gods and how each keeps the other in check.
To say that Whis is just slightly arrogant is an an understatement in my opinion. That moment in battle of gods when picollo grabbed his arm and he got really serious and ominous, I felt like he has a slight disgust towards mortal beings.
Or maybe I got the wrong vibe from that scene, but it got stuck in my mind.

I recall in Super that their were other universe's out that that Xeno delete out of boredom/anger. Since that is the case what happened to the Angels of those worlds? Since they go "dormant" when their god of destruction is killed, but at the same time their world/universe is gone. So if this is the case there has to be some sort of other world that the angels must live or come from. With this information this means that somewhere are 6 Angels "Dormant" or living a life not serving a god of destruction. Though I'm sure i'm not the only one to think about this right?
I want to know what if Zeno is actually like a God of destruction, because we've actually never seen him create anything and everyone only talks about how he destroys universe, so what if zeno has a counter part like a god of creation who far surpasses his power and the grand priest and everyone else was created from this being?

hey MasakoX I was doing some thinking last night. do you think Goten and Trunks know how to go beyond SSJ? considering Gotanks can go to SSJ3, you would think they'd at least know how to train there unfused bodies to SSJ2. (even if Gotanks skips it in the anime, I think he can go SSJ2)
Or could they be limited by there age and small bodies? like Goku in GT?

Whis does make a separate timeline when he does that. It's the reason there was a Zamasu that was able to actually kill S kai.
It is quite probable, that the Angel's apparent apathy towards the removal of their universes is a result of a "been there, done that" mentality. What if the entire multiverse has been created and destroyed multiple times in the past on the whims of Zeno? The angels would have no stake as they have already seen the whole thing go round several, perhaps infinite times before. Going "dormant" might be just part of the cycle, when Zeno gets bored or there only being a few universes and wants the excitement of more, he simply creates more and the Angels "reactivate" to take charge when new Gods come around. When Toriyama decided to expand the DB mythology to include this vastly larger cosmos, he also inadvertently (perhaps intentionally, but knowing him, I don't think it was quite so well thought out) also deepened the time scaling as well. Toriyama is a bit of a story writing savant (at least he appears so from his interviews), he writes stuff that appears shallow and stupid on paper, but plays out in very satisfying ways, continuity be damned! Now that Toyotaro is so heavily involved, I think things will be looking to get much more nuanced than before.
I doubt Toribot will actually be in Super. I always took it as a joke. I'm pretty sure that the creator of the multiverse was Zeno and he created it because he was lonely or something like that.
SpaceTheGamer Plot twist tori-cat comes back instead. They brought back the Dr.slump characters, so they could bring tori-bot back, and the goku would remember him and everyone would freak out that goku knows the creator!

What really suprises me is that Whis shares the same voice with Ichigo from Bleach.
Whis is probably my favorite character of Super. He's just so damn fun, and if you grew up only seeing Dragon Ball in that "meathead" light that I imagine many people who grew up with the media we got on Toonami back in the day did, a character like this comes completely out of nowhere. In fact, Super and "new Dragon Ball" in general feels a lot more "refined" than in days past, like meeting someone at your high-school reunion who you always saw as a surly, 'roided-up knuckle-dragger and now he's there in a fancy suit and cordial with everyone (but whose punches to the face could still bust out through the back your skull.)
I swear to god if they just use the super dragon balls to revive everyone during the universal survival arc...

They took it down to put up a new one that will display their progress in much more detail. It seems that they've either neglected to prioritize it, or its taking longer than they anticipated.
7:51 Actually Whis's changes do affect the timeline. During the Goku Black arc, Whis and Beerus need to acquire proof that Zamasu is Black. In order to do so, they wait for Zamasu to kill Gowasu, and then Whis rewinds time. The Zamasu that killed Gowasu would become the Zamasu we know that ends up being partners with Black.

DJTV And how did Beerus change the timeline? By having Whis use his ability. My point still stands, regardless of how what I'm trying to explain happened happened it was still Whis's ability that caused the change.
It's not that the change affects the timeline, it's that in that instance that Zamasu acquired a Time Ring after he killed Gowasu - anyone wearing a Time Ring is unaffected by any changes in the timeline.
The time split happened cause Beerus killed Zamasu not cause Whis turned back time
And if I remember correctly the reason Zamasu/GokuBlack did not die in the future was cause he was wearing the time ring
there's something that everyone forgot. in episode 67 whis made fun of the mafuba which kinda means that he knows a way to beat an immortal opponent and he knew how to counter hit's time skip.

I caught the inconsistency about the Grand Priest too. I thought the manga said he was the strongest in the multiverse because Zeno and his personal guards exist outside of the 12 universes and therefore are not included in the calculations. But about Whis, I would like to see, even in just a throwaway episode something between Beerus and Whis. Beerus is proven to be a loose canon, so something ticks off Beerus and in a tantrum he attacks Whis, which of course Whis easily counters, guarding with barely a strain. Knowing Toriyamas love for American sci-fi, maybe a matrix reference with Whis blocking Beerus with one hand like Neo and Agent Smith. Just an idea that would showcase how much stronger Whis is to Beerus since I doubt we'll ever see a need for Whis to use full strength short of some kind of fight between him and one of his siblings.
I have a feeling that if the universes lose in the new arc, the Daishinkan will sever their angels' ties with their respective GoDs.

Goku is my favourite character. I have watched DB, DBZ, DBGT and DB super and is without a doubt still my favourite, even if DB super continues messing him around.
I like Whis too. He's a pretty great character it'll be interesting to see what happens when the universe tournament comes up!
I'm pretty sure Zeno is just another God of Destruction and that there are probably a ton more universes with other Zeno type characters.

I am curious to see whether or not Whis really does care about Beerus. His and Vados reactions to the prospect of their gods getting erased seemed really cold and indifferent. Though then again maybe they know something we don't. We will just have to see how it plays out when one of the cats is in real danger.
Masako, what if the reason that pan is so gifted at such a young age is not only due to the fact that she's a hybrid, but also the fact that she was a part of the SSJG ritual and having the much power flow through her before being born gave her hidden latent abilities? Just some food for thought and would love toes a discussion about this.

The moment whis opened the side of bulmas ship in battle of God's by "simply" parting reality itself and then fixing it back together I was like..."yup...This is op. Loving it. More whis please!"
I posted this same idea on one of the other db tubers videos this week, but I think the only way to remedy the current situation with the less developed universes being destroyed is that the weakest universes will simply merge into larger universes. this way, there will be 2 sets of kaioshins/ gods of destruction, 2 angels (no dormant period), no one has to die, and zeno will have all his universes up to par by having a bunch of universes that have an increased mortal score/rating. this would give the arc a perfect escape route out of the dark path it's currently on and all it will take is a wish from the dragon balls or maybe goku making the suggestion to zeno chan in order to save everyone.
Here's a little tidbit:
When Goku mentions about talking it over with Zeno not to destroy the universes, Whis mentions that if he does anything that might upset Zeno *or* the Grand Priest, the universe could be wiped out.
This right there is granting the ability for the Grand Priest to destroy a universe somehow, he has a say in whether he himself has the power, or can make Zeno do it.
That pun in the beginning left me whising.

On that whole 'Grand Priest is the strongest in the multiverse' thing, I personally interpreted that as 'he's the strongest in the multiverse excluding Zeno'.
I always considered Zeno as some kind of powerful Figurehead and the Grand Priest as the real one in command. It also got me thinking that all Gods of Destruction have an Angel that are stronger than them to both serve them and to keep them in check. I always saw Zeno as some sort of God of Destruction, but just at the top. So by that logic, the Grand Priest is his Angel, making him stronger than Zeno.
I always have Whis join me on my Xenoverse 2 missions. He's always so sassy and supportive. "Oh, don't glare at me like that" "I'm the smug one? Oh, that's rich!"
He's like anime Anderson Cooper.
While he's not one of my top favorites, I too find Whis a VERY interesting character and his family to be some of the most creative in *Dragonball* history. They're very different (almost "alien", pun intended) in some ways but at the same time feel familiar to the mythos. The Grand Priest and his possible intentions beyond the tournament are especially fascinating.
I personally always thought that Kai in general were sort of like angels, from King Kai to the Grand Kai, Supreme Kai, etc. When I first saw Whis in *Battle of Gods,* my first thought was "Holy crap, how high does this Kai hierarchy go?! And there's Gods now?!" When it was revealed Whis and Vados were literal angels, I was mildly disappointed but still intrigued.
All I know is, if Grand Priest does attempt a coup on both Zeno, Goku & company will have one hell of a fight on their hands. Frankly, I just don't see how they or even the other Destruction Gods combined could face such an opponent. If GP somehow gets his children on his side too, it truly will be a "battle of Gods". And the multiverse likely won't survive that.
Are we just going to ignore the fact that the toribot is wearing the exact same tracksuit that gohan wears in Resurrection F?
I simply want to see him stop a raging Saiyan from stomping Beerus when "The Truth" comes out.
Also, I want to see Whis smile when Vegeta erupts with a power nobody knew about until it is shown.
Rufus Adams Vegeta is the job character. He was made to job, so even with a new powerup he'd still fucking lose, because that's who he is.

I figure that the Daishinkan is capable of "Reassigning" Angels to other roles and preventing them from becoming dormant.

Masako. Whis and the other Angels are exempt from universe destruction, does that mean the universes already destroyed in the past have angels still alive? Are they attendants to the grand priest? I think it would make an interesting video to talk about.

I feel like Beerus is one of the least destruction-y god of destruction. That Whis may actually be closer to his G.o.D. than most. We see, in Beerus's wish for Champa to gain his own Earth that he is a caring individual. While he does engage in his destruction-y duties, he seems very lazy in it. It will be interesting to see how the other Gods of Destruction are. Also, with the universe tournament arc, I feel like Whis and his father are not fans of each other. And, with the tension between Vados and Whis, I feel like Whis is actively at odds with some of the other angels. Not just normal family tension, but almost like there is some underlying philosophical differences. The Grand Priest seems to not like Goku, or universe 7 generally... But, yeah, I feel like Whis and Beerus are less sibling-y but much more that they're incredibly close friends. Like, Hetrosexual Life Partners who do value each other greatly. And, I think the "mortal power" metrics might play into how Whis may disagree with Vados and the Grand Priest. Like, maybe Vados disapproves of Whis treating Beerus with respect and equability, and thinks that the Angles are superior to everyone else, which would jive with the Grand Priest's attitude. It would also explain why, by-and-large, Whis seems to like Goku, Vegeta, and the others. He seems to genuinely enjoy them. But, yeah....
On the Angles, Demons, and other aetheric being's front, how is King Kai doing, and what's the story with that wizened ZZ-Top cliche the Grand Kai?
maybe the angels don't get deactivated if the respective universe is deleted.
Or maybe they'll be deactivated until a new universe will be created. Or in case another angel "falls".

Hey, Masako. First off, love the vids. (Been bingeing on them the past couple days.) Secondly, I know the angels are apparently only the guides and attendants of their Gods of Destruction, but all things considered, should Whis have gone to see Shin after his accidental promotion to Supreme Kai? It must have been obvious that the kid had no idea what he was doing, and it would have contributed to Universe 7’s continuing to function normally. With Beerus asleep for so long, he certainly had the time...

There's already a loophole for getting Whis and other angels out of that whole dormant deal. Since they'd only be in that state until a new God of Destruction would be born for that universe, it becomes entirely moot of that universe no longer exists, so the rules regulating and binding the angels to those universes go out the window.
Whis is definitely one of my favourite characters in Super. He's hilarious.
