    I purchase all my diesel at a station that does a lot of service with over-the-road haul trucks. That way I know I'm getting the best fuel available at the time. In the winter I do not add any additives. Modern diesel fuel has summer and winter blends. So the necessary additives are included. Just my two cents.

      Ive heard others suggest this as well. There is a local Pilot, but they are always priced .20 cents higher per gallon than smaller stations.
      The additive I buy claims to be a cetane booster and a lubricant. From my understanding, adding cetane will allow for a more complete combustion (hopefully preventing emission problems down the road) and the lubricant factor is advertised to help expend the life of the fuel pump. And of course an antigel. Im extremely curious if it actually makes an impact. I spent about 15 bucks on a gallon, and that about lasted me the winter. I see it as cheap insurance.

    I’m looking at the same truck F-350 STX but with the new 7.3 big block gasser . I really don’t want to deal with modern diesel EPA issues . Good luck 👍 with yours !

      Nice! There are a lot of pros and cons to each, I'm sure you've done your research. Diesel just fits my needs better. Biggest regret is not getting a trim level with heated seats! Kat skin leather makes some cool aftermarket professionally install seat covers, but they want like 2 grand.

    Thanks for taking the time to make this video and sharing you options. It seems most of your dislikes are diesel related drawbacks of owning one. The idle down thing you do is probably proper but there’s plenty of contractors and private owners are not following that procedure with no problems. Your seat issue I wonder if your seat is not built properly because we have those same seats at work and I was surprised how decently comfortable that they were pretty much on par with my XLT 150. Sometimes grading comfort can be subjective though on what’s comfortable or not.
    Is your truck equipped with the rapid heat option? One other thing you could try is when your empty put it in eco mode. That will take a little bite off your take off. Again thanks for the review.

      The truck is not equipped with the rapid heat option. I bet that would make a good bit of difference warming up. Ive had the truck plugged in a few times, and it didn't make a substantial difference in supplying heat to the cab.
      There are 5 driving modes in my truck. Normal, towing, Deep snow/sand, slippery and eco. When put into slippery mode, the truck accelerates much more gradually. I would almost like to keep the truck in the Slippery mode all the time. Heres the issue. Every time I start the truck, it wants to go back to normal driving mode. Wish it game my the option to permanently stay in one mode as opposed to always reverting back to Normal.

    Yeah, the seats in lower models are not comfortable, even in expedition.

    How much weight did you throw in the bed during the winter? And is there a reason you only warmed it up for about 5minutes in the winter before driving? I’m in Alaska and will warm up my truck for like 20min before driving some days, granted it’s a gas truck

      To be honest, I don't keep any weight in the bed. I feel that I shouldn't have to keep clutter in the back to get good traction. I also am constantly using the bed for plywood, and drywall. If this was a snow plowing rig, then this would be a different story.
      As for the warm up, I feel like 5 minutes is appropriate. Just gives the truck a little time to warm up slightly and get the oil flowing. Its not good for modern diesels to over idle. Alaska is a totally different ball game I would imagine

      @@whatwouldjohngaltdo1409 I have the block heater installed. I had the truck plugged in twice this winter and it really didn't make a difference in supplying heat to the cab.
      The manual suggests to plug the truck in when temps go below 0 degreed F. I usually will plug it in when I expect temps to go below 5 Degrees. I will say that this thing always fires right up in cold temps. No issues starting up at all.

    Doesn't it have a plug in engine block heater to help with starting and warm up in cold weather?

      Engine block heater is an option I have. I used it twice this winter and didn't really experience a huge difference in warming up the cab. On higher end models, they have a rapid cab heat option. not sure how it works, but ive heard good things about that system. Honestly this thing fires right up in temps as low as 7 degrees F. Anything lower then that, ill plug it in to be safe.

      Pre 2014 Chevys where good. Had nothing but transmission issues with my "now sold" 2015 chevy 1500. The 5.3 v8 is also CRAP. Known for lifter problems and the engine shuts down to v4 to save fuel. Read about it. I'll never buy a chevy as long as I live. They look nice though.
