I have been running 6.7 fords since they came out. In Canada with rough roads, shit diesel (with additive added), heavier loads than your non CDL loads. No trans problems, nobody flashing me with their high beams because I use air bags and know how to balance a load. No cp4 problems to speak of yet but I do worry about them. Buying a new gm or ram gets you a cp4 as well. Oil changed every 8000km (5000 miles) and fuel filters every second oil change. Zero issues with my fords. I had a 2020 ram 5500 as a rental last summer and my employees and myself all hated the seats, and even with the aisin Trans it still did the famous shifting up and down like crazy on hills and flaring between gears like the pos dodge trans always has. Best chance with a dodge is getting a 6 speed manual with a cp3 which is no longer an option so it's a no brainer we will stay ford until there is something better.
Btw dude less blow before these uneducated speeches would make you seem alot less sketchy and more reliable to listen too for a review. Please do an honest comparison of cost between a three fords you have had compared to one of the two dodges you have owned.

I betcha part of the problem with his transmissions is lack of maintenance, when you're towing heavy you've gotta keep up with that trans maintenance or you're going to hurt it, the dodges are already used to shitty transmissions and it makes that Aisin look awesome. We've had tons of issues with a 15 denali 2500's allison ourselves, got the truck from an old lady that never towed with 63k, trans went at 70. We put a new one in and are only at 90k and this one's already going, we're gonna trade it off for an f350 gasser because we don't tow heavy often enough to need the diesel, and the maintenance on it is getting way too expensive for how little we use it, and those new CP4 trucks are just scary.

You said the fuel in the US is bad. That is true. But, I have been telling you for a long time to stop buying fuel at the truck stops. Get it at the larger 7-11's or where ever. Truck stop diesel is 20 % bio and the small stations are 10 % bio. Big difference there and helps on MPG and pump price.
If your truck is squatting that much in the rear that it is causing a problem with the head lights, either your springs are bad or your load is not balanced. You are tagged at 26,000 and I am tagged at 39,999 and I never have a problem with my headlights bothering anybody on with my F350.

Headlight problem? - Every truck with halogens in this country has this issue since they do not self level (like Europe) so install Air bags for christs sake and problem is solved. CP4 issue - Every other HD truck has to deal with it due to poor diesel in the US, so add a better filtering system. 10r Trans - have you read about the horror stories on the Ram trans? Your 10r still works though, right? Has it left you stranded like Ram owners? Plus you bought the cheapest version of the truck possible, and then you compare it to a limited Ram? Some of those reasons happen like the lights issue. But as for my trans I serviced it at 50k even tho Ford says 100k heavy duty use. I used fuel additives and oil additives from day one and no issues.
I swapped all other fluids too at 50k. Cdl hotshot towing 10-19k lbs on my trailer daily . I am currently trading up to a 450 cause around 40k gross the f350 doesn’t like it. Plenty of power just doesn’t stop very well and doesn’t tow the best.
The engin brake worked ok for me in the north east. Just don’t go hauling azz b4 a down grade . The engin brake held my speed pretty good on our little mtns. Been happy w my truck just need a bigger truck for my lanes.

I can't speak to Ford's CP4 fuel pump directly since I own an Chevy Duramax. But mine is the LML Duramax with the CP4 pump and they are known for going out and taking the whole fuel injection system with it. The fix is to run a lift pump. Apparently, CP4 pumps are sensitive to air in the fuel over time causing them to wear out. And the lift pump resolves that issue by maintaining a steady flow of fuel. My 2011 has 229,000 miles, and a lift pump, and is still going strong.

  • @concourspilot
    @concourspilot 3 года назад +7

I love your videos! But I’ve gotta say your main problem is it’s a lease so you can’t do the simple things to fix some of these issues. For the headlights I spent $150 and replaced them with LED’s PROPERLY MADE LED’s. And now I never get flashed. Also these trucks need airbags with the kind of weight we haul. I have bags in mine and can adjust them on the fly, my headlights always shine onto the road. I also think your using the exhaust break wrong or not using it at all because it DOES have one. You could also be creating the hills to fast and that sets you up for excessive speed down the hills. I cross the Rockies regularly on all of the major interstates and never have a problem holding speed. As I crest a hill I engage AUTO Exhaust Brake and my speed never climbs above 1 or 2 MPH from that point on.

    • @burtbarrow930

Your comments on the exhaust brakes are spot on. I routinely pull 24000 pounds with zero issues. What manufacture allows for load squat for the lights? NONE!! So your airbag comment is once again spot on! The seats could be better but I’ve made a living sitting in a seat and they all get uncomfortable after awhile, especially when we get older. The tranny does shift a bit to firm for my liking. Zero fuel issues so far, not saying there couldn’t be. But he lost me with the light rant and pretty much concedes he’s an idiot!

It’s indisputable…..it’s happening all over the industry. The ford 10 speed is not a commercial grade transmission. It’s a vacation/grocery getter transmission at best.

It's a "sealed" transmission. There is no dipstick to pull. Plus Ford has a 150K service interval on the 10 speed. That's why Enterprise isn't changing the oil, because Ford is telling them not too. To check the fluid, you have to crawl under the truck and use a wrench to pull off the fill port. It's on the TOP-right side of the tranny. Inside the fill port cap, is a mini dipstick that's about 3 or 4 inches long. That's the only way to check the fluid. This transmission doesn't even have a drain plug! You have to pull the pan (which is made of plastic) to drain the fluid. It's idiotic what Ford and GM are doing with their transmissions.

Having bought over 20 Ford trucks since 1995 I know of there follies. 1995- 2002 ok motor junk E4od trans. 2003 -2010 junk diesel engines and bullet proof torque shift trans. 2011 - 2019 good engines with bullet proof trans. Sounds like they are going back to junk transmissions. We tow at 36,000 #'s and have only lost one trans since 2003 out of 12 trucks. As far as the seats go they went to junk somewhere in the 2002 era. Not only bad padding but the fabric on the xlt's is an absolute joke. The same people that took GM down are some of the same ones that made millions by pulling of this scam while every stock holder lost everything along with us tax payers. I did the same for ford but only bought 50 something shares. my only regret is not having an extra 5 grand in either stock or id be retired. Ford would have you believe it can go 100K, just past the warranty which it will. Meanwhile shifting poorly. The transmission fluid additive package will long since be worn out and will continue to shift poorly. If the fluid isn’t cherry red or smells burnt it must be changed!

Funny, because out of the 20 HD trucks we have in our fleet Rams seem to be the only ones with transmission issues. 4 out of the 10 we have has had trans replaced. Non of the Fords have had this issue.

You have to drive that transmission like a manual when slowing down. Got to keep the rpm up for the brake to work.

This is some good information. I was contemplating going back to ford in 2020. Figured I would wait and see how things went with the new transmission. Think I'm going to keep my 2018 Ram 3500. Zero issues hauling my 40' 5th wheel around the country for work. Maybe in the next year or two Ford will get it right. Wonder how the new Duramax trucks with the 10 speed are holding up?!

Keep the RAM IMO. And the 2019+ RAMs are more problematic too.

Get an older pre emissions truck and have the engine, transmission, and rear axle overhauled. Probably be cheaper and less maintenance issues in the long run. There is a guy doing hotshot with a dodge 12 valve. He brags about easy low cost maintenance and less down time.

BINGO! FINALLY someone does an honest Ford review! Those lights...I'm so glad someone finally pointed out the COMPLETE uselessness of all four lights being on and looking like the high beams!

  • @chadw3370

Actually Ford uses an "exhaust brake" through the VGT turbo. Not an "engine brake". The big 3 all use exhaust brakes through VGT turbos. Pacbrake does offer a "weeper" style "engine brake" for the Cummins called loadleash that utilizes valve adjustments to create the breaking. It is inside the engine which is the difference between engine and exhaust. I think when Ford and GM switched to the 10 speed it degraded their exhaust braking performance. IMO.

This video is a joke... Like that guy said, just talking about how you liked Fords.. And Chevrolet has the same 10 speed in it? Plus this is about the only video I've seen up on the internet talking down on the newer Ford's. The whole headlight thing sounds like an opinion too me..

I've got over 100,000 miles on my '06. I've had to replace the power steering way too many times, and a few other things over the years, but no deadline issues. Now, the body rust is an issue, but the three years in the salty Hawaii air didn't do that any favors either.

My son just bought a 2020 Ram Big Horn with 40k miles with a
CP4... What a piece of crap fuel pump. And the games dealerships are playing with that. Saying " cheap fuel, or to much water in the fuel one uses." So where in the driver's manual does it say how to avoid cheap fuel 🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻
He's a vet, just graduated Lineman's college, got dispatched, first big purchase so he can drive long distances, and only had it for 2 weeks. Now its sits at the dealership, and possibly 2 months for it to be replaced or repaired.

I don't consider the seats to be minor... being comfortable is VERY important, especially for you who spends most of your life in them. I've been trying to find a nice set of 4th gen RAM seats (cloth) for my 2005, since they're a direct bolt-in.
I thought Ford had a real exhaust brake... very surprised they don't. I love the PacBrake in my 2005... that plus it being a manual trans (G56) and it works VERY VERY well.
