Nice overview. Got my '17 F350 CC LB 4WD in '19 at 17k miles, moving up from a '06 F350 6.0L. Its a Lariat and simliar to yours with airflow in/out mods, which mpgs increased. On those battery hold-down brackets, i went twice hitting them with paint only to find them corrode again. I sanded them and put two coats of Raptor Liner, with a thin layer of butyl rubber pad between the bracket and battery - 18 months later, no corrosion and now pushing 55k miles. The truck mod bug is always itching with this thing, due to options and typical PSD paranoia of preventing "failure" points. I use HSS EDT and HSS LX4 lubricity formula each fill-up, to offset any CP4 sadness.

As far as style goes I’m a big fan of the 11-16 trucks. Partially because I have one, but I do love the look. 17-19 are great looking too. They aren’t over styled. Simple and sleek is the way to go. The current truck along with the f150 is not my cup of tea. Not a fan of the styling. The interiors look great. Just don’t care for the exterior all that much. Although the Chevy looks horrendous. So this would be an excellent option if you’re a Chevy guy. Great review man .

Have the exact same truck down to the weight loss. Only difference is the rims and ranch hand bumper. I think it’s new enough that it doesn’t feel old/outdated interior like the 15-16 and it’s old enough to still have the 6 speed and weight loss. Quality/reliability seems way better as well. The only thing that I worry about ever with weight loss is my cp4. I just run hot shots secret and change filters every other oil change. I’m going to do a 2020 front end soon. The EPA has done significant damage not only to the diesel truck industry with DEF and DPF along with all the unnecessary emission hardware which adds hundreds of pounds of dead weight to the trucks, they're doing the same nonsense with gasoline vehicles!
Auto manufacturers have gone to direction injection (DI) for gasoline engines for better emissions and fuel economy. With the older port fuel injection, the fuel is sprayed on the back side of the intake port and cleans the intake valves. With direction injection, the fuel is injected into the combustion chamber and bypasses the back side of the intake valves. With EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) of combustion by pass gases from the crankcase back into the manifold, carbon build up is a serious problem for DI engines! Vehicles begin to experience serious performance issues when the carbon builds up on the back side of the intake valves and the only reliable method of cleaning the carbon is with walnut blasting. This can run thousands of dollars! And if the owner doesn't do this carbon cleaning, the engine performs worse and emits more emissions than the older style of port injection!
These government bureaucrats need to stay the hell out of technical businesses they know nothing about and stop wasting our hard earned money! All this nonsnes doesn't constribute to clean air significantly and in the long run, actually makes things worse!!!

Now personally, I found the 14-16 style ugly! The 17-19's are really sharp looking, the new ones, as long as you don't have the base halogen headlights, they look decent... especially since you can get a base XL with the STX package and the LED lights... totally makes them look better, and since it's the base model, it can be had in a regular cab!

I love my old 2008 6.4L, I will love her california compliant big ass till her death! (Probably at 125,000 miles) Then I will buy another 2005 6.0 and drive it till I die. I miss my 6.0.

Cp4 is still being used. All 6.7 ford trucks have cp4. Cummins used cp4 in 2019 and 2020. Then went back to cp3.

I'd avoid any new truck. As long as it has a def system it will never be fully reliable . Even then you're better off putting a older engine in it

You will have an old piece of shit at That point. Buy brand new. Trade In 3-5 years before out of warranty. Trade is excellent on low mile hd diesels. Zero reason to keep an old truck. Unless of course your broke

Had one , turbo seal went and vacuumed the oil out of the crank case and dumped it infront of the DPF , no loss in oil pressure, no low oil warning, 488,000 kms , spun the main bearings, wouldn’t touch one again unless it’s deleted, even then I’d be hesitant

Every truck is a gamble at the end of the day. Even 7.3’s “the best diesel” I’ve seen them go at 100k. Others over 500k without an issue. 6.7’s have also proven to be the same way.

    • @JohnDiMartino

Spinning the main bearings on a 6.7 seems to be happening at a higher than normal rate . The fact that they are untabbed baffles me and allows them to spin easier. The 15-19s are the best years imo for the 6.7 .
