    The most important thing for the preservation of the model is a glass housing for its permanent residence: a DISPLAY CASE. It should compliment the model - be like an extension of it, like a frame for a painting. At the same time it ought not clamp the ship and draw the attention away from it. The most important function of the DISPLAY CASE, however, is to protect the model from dust and changes in humidity.
    I offer you MY VERSION OF MAKING A DISPLAY CASE from ready-made maple and pine wood blanks, which can be purchased at any hardware store:

    A display case of incredible elegance. Even more beautiful than those sold commercially. The ship appears to be on rough seas. Thanks so much for sharing.

    Very effective. I always mount my models on pedestals over a mirror so as to display the planking under the hull.

      That's a very good idea! Maybe I'll use it when I make a display case for my French cutter to show its clinker planking on the bottom...

    Lovely display for a beautiful model. I might even prefer it without the wooden base between the model and the "ocean"

    • @OlhaBatchvarov

      Thank you.
      I also thought about doing it without a wooden stand, but otherwise I could not find a way to raise the model above.

    I loved the choice and use of the wall paper, it was very fitting for a ship model. Your base was so beautiful I would have been very tempted to stain the wood, but I could see why you chose to paint it to enhance the wall paper base.

      In general, I decided to paint in white because the model is on a white console table in a room with white furniture...

      @OlhaBatchvarov  Год назад +1

      Thank you very much!
      The second part does not exist, I still haven't bought the glass for the showcase. This is a real problem and not only in the cost, but also in the fact that I do not have a driver's license. For 2 years now, I have been asking my husband to go to a special store for thin glass (2-2,5 mm), specifically glass, not plexiglass!

    Excellent work. Love watching your videos of ship model building. Your an expert. I’m a newbie and I was wondering if I Can get an acad file of your display case so I can modify for my size? I’m building the HMS Victory at 1:98 scale. Thanks, DickT

      Write me your e-mail address (feedback on my website). But I do not follow the drawings because I buy the bars that are available in the store. The drawing was only for calculating the number and size of slats (which +\- fit the size)...

      Thank you very much!
      I will make the next part of the display case as soon as my husband buys me glass or I finally save the necessary amount of money! I have already bought wood for this and now I have to buy the most expensive part of it))) I use thin glass (not plastic because it eventually gets scratched and faded) which is usually sold in workshops for making picture frames - it is almost invisible and not flashes ...

    Hi I have another question. If it’s not to difficult , Can you give me sizes of lumber you used. I’m trying to guess watching video but it’s difficult. it would help me a lot if you give me some sizes to follow. I really like your design. Id like to build one very similar for my HMS Victory. @@OlhaBatchvarov that’s what makes your design work and it is very lite and easy to manuever.
