    How clever, seizing the finger first and THEN transfering the seizing onto the rope. Oh, and the way you coil the rope, just a bit of a twist and it lies naturally. You made my day, you really have. Thank you!

    One of your videos popped up for me a couple of days ago, it was episode #3 of the Confederacy. I watched it and have been binge watching your channel for the past couple of days. When I saw this one pop up my first thought was that the video was a bit long for assembling a cannon, but as I watched it I was totally mesmerized watching your skills at work. I found myself enjoying the background music as well. I've got a boat on my workbench that I haven't worked on in a while, but your videos have really motivated me. Thanks so much!

    Amazing 🤩
    The attention to detail. 🧐How at any moment, one of those knots could turn into a rats nest. The real test is match them all up in repetition, but in the install, they have their own unique look. It's the meticulous attention that each piece requires, but even more intriguing is the ability to capture all this in a tutorial video, and keep it organized in a timely manner. Art meets function, with every detail having a purpose, even all the way back into the skeletal frame, into the planking, and with the finishing touches of battle cannons. Wonderful job Ohla!
    🙂👍

    The detail of these guns and carriages are so good, it's a pity that they are lacking the objects used for ranging the guns! These were known as "gunners' quoins" and at their most simple were just a wedge of wood with a handle that was pushed under the breech of the cannon to tilt it. It would be an easy matter to make appropriate wedges with tiny brass escutcheon pin heads as handles and would appease my obsession to details as an Arms Historian ! Other than this minute point that probably only I would notice; your work is superb, and I love watching your videos. They are so beautifully produced and edited; please keep them coming !

    Painstaking and as always with a great result. I note, that we seem to have a somewhat different way of doing this. While you prepare everything outside the ship, I try to work with the guns on place on the ship. I dont know wich way is the best.

    • @OlhaBatchvarov
      @OlhaBatchvarov  2 года назад

      It also depends on the model! But I measure everything on the model and only tie the ropes outside the deck - because that way you have more freedom... That's why I have to move each carriage here and there several times...

    Здравствуйте Ольга! Вы прекрасный мастер, у Вас отличный набор инструментов и парк станков, работа очень аккуратная. Мне 59 лет, моряк , отдал морю 30 лет, занимаюсь судомоделизмом с 12 лет. Откуда у Вас такая страсть к коммерческим наборам? Ваш уровень работы просто обязывает Вас строить корабли с нуля. Очень обидно видеть все нестыковки из набора: задняя часть лафета слишком длинная, откатный канат слишком короткий, блоки агроменные , тали слишком коротки, тот самый канонир не сможет прочистить и снова зарядить пушку после залпа.
    В общем, не сочтите мои маленькие замечания за придирки. Удачи в Вашем творчестве!

    • @OlhaBatchvarov
      @OlhaBatchvarov  Месяц назад

      Hello Rome
      I understand that you are talking about bulkheads! Since you can't even fit 1 gun port between the frames...
      It depends on what stage you are at and what the design of the kit is:
      1) If the planking is two-layer, everything is fine and you can safely cut through.
      2) If a single-layer plankig - it is a little worse, but not impossible:
      2.1. Fill the spaces before planking with soft wood (linden, basswood or at least balsa), so you will increase the area for gluing the planks
      2.2. Or glue the planks not only to the bulkheads, but also to each other. Then you can cut through one gun port first, glue in its frame and then you can cut through the 2nd...
      3.3. If the planking is already glued and it is impossible to follow the points above, then:
      3.3.1. Glue the second layer of planks, at least with 0,5 mm veneer so that each new plank covers the seams of the previous planks
      3.3.2. Do not cut the gun ports at all.

    Hi Olha, That is a great video, and I will start watching your others with keen interest. Your work is amazing!!!
    When I tried to use your technique to do the seizing of my gun tackle, it tended to form a know before it was properly reduced in size. Am I doing something wrong that you can think of? Do I need to use wax on the seizing line to prevent premature knotting? When I reduced the wraps on my finger to about 4, and it sprang into relative disorder when put in position to tighten, it did work. However, when I used more wraps, and the coils didn't expand into relative disorder when put into position, it knotted prematurely =( Wah. When it did work for me, it sure does look great, and I want to continue to use this technique on the remaining cannons I need to rig with tackle, there are 10 on the HMS Granado Bomb Vessel I am building. Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Best regards,
    Brian

      You nail the wooden part of the gun on a piece of wood so it cannot move . Then you nail the cannon itself. When you’ve finished tying the ropes you remove the gun from the piece of wood. The question is : how do you remove the nail which you used to attach the gun?

    Superb job, as always!
    However, I have my doubts about the cannon design. It looks a bit anachronistic for the XVI century, where I would expect a 2- wheel mount with somewhat longer and thinner barrel. Like the gun, found in 1971 off the coast of Italy and believed to be part of XVI century Venetian ship.
    While your guns and, particularly their mounts seem to be from XVIII-XIX centuries. Even XVII century guns, like those, found on Vasa had rather different proportions and details to their mounts.
    I realize, this is, probably, how Maristella suggests this guns in their kit, but still, it does not seem right to me.

    • @OlhaBatchvarov
      @OlhaBatchvarov  2 года назад +4

      Yes, you are absolutely right about the guns!
      In the kit were quality details but not from that era. Therefore, I had to make them completely from scratch or use them from the kit. But no one really knows what guns were actually on the Ragusian carracks. This reconstruction of the ship is based on the image on the church's silver plate. Therefore, there is not even any information on how to make them! So I decided to use the details from the kit...

    • @SQSNSQ
      @SQSNSQ 2 года назад

      @@OlhaBatchvarov Well, I do realize, there is no absolutely hard historical evidence on what guns were used on this particular ship type. But there are enough of ancient gravures and archaeological finds to provide at least a general information on how the contemporary naval guns looked like. It took me like 5-10 min to find the article, I posted above, with the reconstruction of the XVIc naval gun, based on actual underwater find.
      I also understand why you may not want to scratch build them, as it will seriously increase the amount of work for you, where it is already more then enough efforts required.
      As for the kit manufacturer, I think, Maristella puts this "wrong" guns in the kit because it is easier for them to have same set of parts for all their kits, instead of making/ordering a number of different types.
