Wonder Grip van in car park: check.
    Needs a clean: check.
    Bosch wiper blades: check.
    Service history: ABSENT!
    Massively overspent: YESSS!
I loved that Matt was celebrating that he had "free" reg plates, at the time the engine was flashing warning lights and misfiring all over the place.
Great video Matt, as always. Thank you!

I seem to remember they could some some quite eye-catching colours as well. This one looks pretty decent for 'just' silver, and the spec is pretty good.
Definitely goes in the "Interesting 1st Car" category, and so I'm glad it fell into Matt's tender mercies, it definitely seems like a car with (as Matt says) "A bit of life left in it yet".

I bought a 3 year old Vauxhall Omega V6 back in the day. 120,000 miles, a service history like a phone book and owned by a major bank. Brand new inside and ticked like a Swiss watch. I bought the 1.3 vcdi diesel ltz spec in 2014 for £6500 had done 20k 2 yrs old a 1 owner car. (in 2012 that model was £13500 new!) It was a shame GM ditched the brand as this was the start of new model range which were miles apart from the Daewoo brand previously(the aveo platform was to be used on the updated corsa back then.It shared some mechanical components with the astra j . It had really supple ride quality, precise steering very comfy seats and the diesel had a 6 spd gearbox so runs to Scotland around 300 miles were effortless. Unfortunately eml light came on mass air flow fault Egr cleaned and renewed but kept happening so it turned out that a friend who was a vauxhall tech said its got sticking valves causing egr to block with unburnt carbon so would require major strip(said it was common in the corsa with that engine ( a fiat derived unit) and mainly high mileage driving school cars with lots of stop starts with a hot engine .Obviously your petrol version wont have that issue so i hope you sell it to someone who will appreciate how good the car is overall and very decent spec to.

My other car, my 2007 Hyundai Amica CDX Auto Mk2 has still only done 14,400 from new but don't let the low milage fool you. It has despite it's low milage been a bit problematic, mainly the brakes. Trouble is it often sits around on the drive gathering dust and rust. As it has tiny wheels everything is so close to the ground so even when stationary heavy rain will bounce back in to the gubbins. This is usually the brakes and more annoyingly the castle rings and ABS sensors. Every MOT it's the same thing with rusted ABS components and a shattered ABS castle ring (the bit that looks like crenellations). I think you do have to use the car to a certain extent to keep it going or it just seizes up (a bit like me). It's worth tuppence and yes... I massively overspend at every MOT!

People can have the wrong idea about low mileage older cars. They think that low mileage equals no wear. Not so. Age can deteriorate your car as much as mileage can.
My XJ is 11 years old with only 26000 Mike's on it. The supercharger nose cone spring return failed giving me an eye watering £1500 bill. It wasn't the mileage it was the age. Plastic parts don't age well. But if it had done 80-100,000 the spring return might still have been OK as I've heard of over 100,000 mile engines still running the same spring return as new.

This video sums up the way car prices have gone in the last 3 years. I looked at these before covid for my son as they were very cheap. I had a Chevy Captiva that had been great. Son's response: "what is it, can't I just have a Corsa". So a Corsa he got. Fast forward 4 years and the Captiva went. Chevy pulling out of UK and lack of spare parts made it a pain to live with. Aveos are now the same price for the same car 4 yrs ago?? Sadly my son would still make the same comment😁

Great little run arounds, a tank of petrol lasted for ever and always easy to park. Brilliant budget run arounds.

Code 16:- Immediately attempt to get a full refund! Actually I quite like the look of that car, I am getting quite old now though. It's a nice change to see the round reflectors without having a curved piece of plastic over them, that will inevitably end up scatting light to all oncoming drivers.

My mother-in-law bought a new Spark in late 2013/early 2014. She still has it and it's been very reliable. I'd goes as far as to say surprisingly reliable. Don't know the miles now, but I'm sure it's quite high, as she used to do a lot of miles, and she tends to drive on the motorway in third gear. It's actually her second, because early on she was involved in quite a significant accident at a busy junction. And although she did sustain some injuries, they were related to sitting too close to the steering wheel. So, I think they're quite safe, too.
As this Aveo is essentially a Corsa, I'd expect it to be more reliable and more safe than the Spark. IMO, it's a perfect first car for a new driver, perfect second car for a two-car family, and would be perfect even as a car for a young family. With all that's been fixed, should only need regular servicing and tyres for the next five years.

Chas-sis, never ever one single time heard the word chassis pronounced that way, here in the States we say it similar to sassy, I think very close to the way the Britts say it. That Korean (Daewoo)built Aveo was called the Spark here once the CVT failed it was off to the junk yard, I don’t think I ever saw one with a manual, how can you text and live cast to your social media shifting gears. Believe or not our Aveo was even a smaller jelly bean looking thing that were mostly manual transmission cars that I still occasionally see. Here in the States get a manual transmission and it will never be stolen, young people can’t drive a stick.

they are very competent small cars.. here in south america they were sold as Chevrolet Sonic (hatchback and sedan, LT/LTZ, MT6/AT6), only in 1.6 16v Ecotec with 110 hp guise.. problem is that only him has ever used this 1.6 engine around here, in a very short run.. they were sold only between 2013-2014 in a lineup full of other compact cars from GM, which narrowed it's market.

These are sold as the Sonic in the US.
Chevy also sold a model known as the Aveo at the same time but it was cheaper.
The Sonic was the darling of rental fleets and sold to a lot of first-time buyers and in several model years approached 100,000 units sold.
It was available with both turbocharged and normally aspirated engines, both engines have the same horsepower but the turbocharged variant had more torque, as well as 3 and 5-door hatchbacks or a four-door sedan and aside from a few issues with water pumps in early model years, were known to be quite reliable and durable.
