It's amazing that this car is 20 years old. It just doesn't look 20 years old. It could sit quite happily amongst new cars and would not look out of place. I passed my driving test in 1984. Back in those days a 20 year old car might have been a Vauxhall Cresta which looked positively ancient parked next to a Ford Sierra!
Quality wise there is very little diference
True however cars really do look all the same today and haven't changed style wise since early 2000s. The early 70s Vauxhall Cresta would look great now sat next to today's 'blow moulded' cars with its great metal chrome bumpers, mechanical AC Gauges and straight bodywork lines.
I'd have an early 70's Cresta now, especially the 3.3ltr with the straight-six engine!
My old man had one, around '74, & compared to a lot of 'ordinary' cars, it really stood out, plus of course, it went like a stabbed rat, once out on the open road!!
That parcel shelf doubles it’s value all by itself! 😂
Matts videos are the only place I actually bother to watch the car vertical ads because it is an actual part of the video
My app automatically skips them and I have to scroll back
i always appreciate when people incorporate the sponsor into the video, even more when they include the bar at the bottom incase you want to skip. people can’t complain about sponsors with him
@@MatthewJBD what app is that ?
@@posiub any reason they don't say cost of sponsoring?
You’re a loser for saying this 😭
I think you should do a road trip with this. Put it in Rishi's name on the DVLA site and drive it down to Downing Street, then abandon it at the gates.. No need to pay the congestion charge either 😂
😂😂
Nah, put it in Jeremy Cobyn's name and fill it with Vegan juice. Nob

I recently bought my mum a 2005 Mini diesel for £500. It has a couple of small issues, but nothing serious and came with almost a years MOT. It is quite well equipped, aircon, cruise control, leather interior. Needless to say, she absolutely loves it. Cheap to tax and insure and practically runs on air.
Toyota diesel engine
@billybattams-scott indeed it is. It seems very reliable and very economical.
I bought a R53 during lockdown, £1000 on a 52 plate. I rebuilt the engine, fixed everything,.new clutch, shocks etc ,all on my drive, spent about £500, then sold it for 2.5k,
How many of us wish we could that.
You bought a clutch, shocks and "rebuilt" an engine for £500? How
@@benstevenson8874 cheap parts for the mini, shocks were about £40 each, when I say rebuilt the engine, I mean oil seals, rocker cover gasket etc, and stuff that these engines suffer with, not pistons/valves etc. I think I got a brand new LUK clutch for about £80,
First! The description of the video is for the Toyota Corolla video you posted last week, just thought i’d let you know before someone else does😅

@@HighPeakAutosneed some advice wanna start selling a car from home as a side business as am at uni at the mo. How can i source good cars for under a grand as you seem to do in most of your videos??
This generation mini had the tritec engine, it was known for being relatively bulletproof. The engine you’re referring to with the chain issues is the prince engine codeveloped with psa from 2006 onwards
Spot on 👍
They rectified that chain issue in mid 2010, 60 reg onwards for anyone looking at getting one...
Same engine as the PT Cruiser 1.6 which never made it to the UK - great engine
The DVLA process for changing owners is super easy but we got caught out by the system when someone registered a car to our address and started racking up parking and speeding fines. Took a while to get it solved but a right pain in the arse.
*They are all Working from Home at DVLA so registered around 5pm when they are getting their Fish & Chips !*
Finally! A car that fits the parking slot! Hoorah!
My wife has a 2004 Cooper. It's a really good spec with chilli pack leather and the sunroof etc. I'm really OCD with my cars, my wife is not. This Mini gets washed once a year when it rains. Last year it passed it's MOT with no advisories, it's an amazing car. My 2007 Alpina D3 E90 on the other hand is a pampered low mileage car. Mine spends most of its time in the garage wiping out my savings. The Mini on the other hand keeps going and going. It's bloody unfair 😂
Family has had 3 all super reliable on the most part, 2 to 150k miles plus and one to 200k miles. Not sure how people find them so unreliable.
"Once a year when it rains"? If you live in the UK the last 6 months have probably washed the paint off 😀hahaha
I have the same one and it's been so reliable so far and I've had it for just over a year.
@@ln5747 The Peugeot made engines (1.6 Turbo) found in the 2008-2013 Copper S, JCW and JCW GP are crap. Also people who own those tend to race everywhere, not wait for the oil to warm up, etc... the 115-120hp NA old Cooper is fine. Minis made after 2014 have reliable engines too. The PSA engine had timing belt and was cheaply made, suffered from head gasket issues etc.
I'm sure I saw mini "cabrio" on your car vertical check?
I think £1195 for a dealer sale.
It is a Cat D and only a MINI One.
CDs - get loads of them in charity shops - I bought 2 today for 20p each!
Matt's wearing a ~£10k Rolex Explorer II (I take it you bought it on the grey market, Matt)
I would say it's a £1000 car all day long ! Nice one matt 👍🏻
Can someone explain why would V99 WJX worth £200-300 for anyone? I really don't get it. Thanks :)
All I can hear is a whine from the Drivers seat 😲😲😂😂
I've had a Mini Cooper since 2009, and it's been great. Hardly costs me a thing and does 40 MPG. Love these little cars! I think your car is work 1,250 every day of the week. Great fun to drive.
I had 2 of these at similar year within 6 months. One had a burned exhaust valve and a bad misfire because of it. The other overheated, rocker cover leaked, clutch release bearing noisey and needed a coil pack. These engines are also pricey to have fixed. Clutch is about a grand because of the limited space. Same with timing chain and they almost all overheat and drop their coolant. It’s almost impossible to bleed the air from the system and the coolant pressure caps fail constantly. I got rid of
I always loved the fun fact that this “Mini” had the same wheelbase as the original Range Rover!
Thats mad
😮😮😮
I had two original RRs and pretty sure they were larger than the mini including my wife’s 18 plate clubman when she had that. Might be imagining that as it was30 years ago 😂
Really? I’m very surprised.
Remember wheelbase is not the same as size. It’s the distance between the two axles some of the replies don’t seem to know this 😊
Great video Matt. Makes think back to the nineties when sub £1000 cars were everywhere and all us teenagers drove, with £5 worth of petrol in the tank to last the week. Best channel on RUclips right now, fills the void left by Top gear.
'rectified fault in washer jets' meaning poked a needle down them 😂😂
or stuck an air line down the tube lol
The mini one of that era has the exact same engine as the mini cooper, just slightly detuned. It can be unlocked to get the original (cooper) power of about 120hp, nice improvement from 90hp
The map simply limited the maximum (electronic) throttle opening so they drive exactly the same at lower RPM, the One just gets breathless more quickly at high load/high RPM. Rover did this on the 1.4 K Series in the 25/45 to make two different power versions, and VW do it on the UP!
@@ferrumignis I had a 1.4 MG ZR. It made 105hp compared to the Rover 25’s 70-odd (I think) because the throttle body was a bit wider.
@@ferrumignisin English, please?
Bluefin
@@seany8787 No, the lower powered 1.4L K series had a mechanical stop in the throttle body that didn't allow it to fully open. Since this was a mechanical system rather than electronic, simply swapping the throttle body for the higher powered version, or one from the 1.8 would get you the 105bhp. The 1.8 did have a larger throttle body, and plenty of people used them on the 1.4 but the truth is it made very little difference to the smaller (high power version) 1.4 throttle body.
could you make a video from the car wash people? what they do, and how?
Hello Matt, not a bad little car, it should sell pretty fast. Thank you for taking the time to upload another video. Ged.
Those tire-names are so fascinating. Like exotic cocktails. Or porn starts. "Ah, a Christel Montaro".
About as grippy as the rubber porn stars use too.
*Don't Mention **-Stormy-** Paul Daniels the Magician !*
I like to think that the Chinese deliberately give these ironic names. _"Real name Deathmaster Ultragrease 2000, we call it Star Performer for silly Europeans"_
it's a Fulda KRISTALL MONTERO 3 a decent German brand. As I remember it was produced in 2015 so its really old. However, it's not this chinese crap as usual in his videos
@@dawidskrzypczak7735 Indeed Fulda is very good.
You’ve gone £1495! Bit steep for a 20 year old cat D
I'd pay £995, and put four decent new tyres on
Agreed. Not worth more than that surely ?
@@serenityinside1and don’t call me Shirley.
It never ceases to amaze me the utter state people leave their cars in when they sell them.
And where do they get these tyres from? Never heard of these brands.
To be fair, if your selling a car for £300, you're not gonna be too concerned about the state its in, as long as its road legal.
But yeah, there are some "Feral" people around, who treat their cars like trash cans.
Love my mini, got an 03 R53 Cooper S and came from a 3 litre Mondeo ST thinking it would be a downgrade, but my god is it great, and touchwood reliable
In Denmark it would be worth at least 3000-4000 pounds
I am so envious of the rest of the world where cars are actually affordable😅
Growing up our neighbor that was a railroad engineer had a late 60’s Mini, in Southern West Virginia it was like an owning a spaceship, nobody had any ideal what it was. My dad made a lot of snarky comments about his toy car, then my dad went for a ride in it and for years he talked about how roomy the little Britt was compared to his Ford Cobra Jet 429 Torino and speculated our neighbor was getting 109 mpg 🤣😂🤣😂, I’m not crazy about these Mini’s, they do look good, but a far cry from the originals!
Non-UK here, why would that licence plate combination be worth any money? Cheers
Funniest comment ever from High Peak. "What I know about the previous owner is they now have diabetes". Literally, laughed out loud.
I particularly liked the reference to "orange peel in the footwell".
What's funny about joking someone might have diabetes?
Love the cheap car vids. Personally if I was buying privately then I’d looking to pay £800 to £1k, but if it’s from a garage like yourself I’d be happy to go to £1,200, assuming I’d get a 3 month warranty at least
What the hell is wrong with people? Just clean the bloody thing seriously, cars cost thousands. No respect some people
Matt, that fear tyre, Kristall Montero is actualy a Fulda brand!A decent winter tyre 🤗
so true. He thought it was chinese crap as usual in his videos. As I remember it was produced around 2015 so it's really old.
I had one in 2004 with the 90 ps engine and it was the worst car I have ever owned. Absolutely awful engine. I traded it in for a 2004 nearly new 206 Dturbo which was fantastic. Never mini again !!!!😊
It's those throw away comments: I don't know much about the previous owners other than they have diabetes'.....
I'd pay about £1200 if it drives as well as you say.
Remember when the top gear lads did that race around a farmyard. Scrapper racing. Come on Matt you know you want to!
My mk2 superb also has a cd player. To to charity shops for CDs. 10 for a quid and there's some gold there.
Matt matt matt cds are still widely available in this digital age
You think Matt would sully himself, by entering a charity shop?
@@johnnunn8688 He could get some nice retro Tommy Hilfiger gear in there.
I don't understand why on your website when trying to sell a car at £1500 you would tell the prospective owner '...will be sold without any warranty either given or implied therefore should be trailered away from the site.' Because from the vid it certainly doesn't need a trailer.
Because if he does anything else then the sale comes under the consumer rights act and can leave the business on the hook for issues. The only way a business can sell a car to public with literally no comeback is it it's sold officially as spares to be trailered - in reality you wouldn't trailer it but that's up to you.
Whats my insurance write off worth ,,,your selling a car wrote off to the public ,no wonder car salesman are the worst 😢
Market is swamped with Minis, as commented on a previous vid.... will sell to someone skint on credit. Privately I would say realistically it's a £700 car as their rep is so poor and this one was a previous write off. Don't think I would buy one at any price, loads around me for sale at £300-400 mark, just not worth much in any condition.
I would rather see dents and scuffs on an old car. If it was perfect I wouldn't trust it.
These don't have the timing chain issue, that applies to 2nd Gen Minis. But these do suffer from oil leaks, usually nothinf that cannot be sorted though
I bought my MINI One in 2019 for £1000. It had 107000 miles on the clock, now it has 170000 miles and still a good little car.
Come up well that has. A very light car so 90bhp goes a long way. £1350 with some fuel in the tank. Happy to help.
Fair price 899,any over just greedy 👌
I used to work at a garage taking cars for an mot the owner of the mot station said he loves minis because they make him loads of money because they are always breaking down, ever week there was two minis with there engines out they are rubbish.
My dad has got a mini and whilst I don’t really like driving it, it just goes on and on. Every MOT they say it won’t pass next year, but without any major work it always does and they say the same again. Few little issues but has never let him down.
Nice car and I think at some point, you need to give a present to the car wash for the crap you have given them over the years lol. Great content as always. I think you should sell it for 995
Got to be £1,295 retail even if it is 20 years old. It’s a great first car for someone
£995 (and no offers) is the right price. It just looks and sounds right, 'priced to sell m8'.
The Tritec engines on the R50 Mini were good. The odd head gasket but waaaay better than the Peugeot/BMW 'Prince' abortion in the R56 with its oil leaks and timing chain issues.
CDs - charity shops! Some great stuff for 50p! 😀
After watching Matts videos, I sometimes think I'd like to start a used car dealership business with the sole objective of acquiring CD's. If I made money selling cars, that would be a bonus.
I do most of my shopping at charity shops these days. They're the only places that sell the things I want.
It used to be the same with vinyl records but they no the value now. Get those CD's before the CD revival.
@@RoderikvanReekum Our local Oxfam books is knocking out CDs for £2 each. IT'S ALREADY STARTED! 🙂 I did buy Curtain Call by Eminem for the MX-5 though!!
eBay. Amazon music shops. Hmv online.
I gotta ask, what is so special about the private plate that its worth 200-300 quid? A particular acronym on it that I am missing?
Advertise for £1295, take £1200. With a fresh MOT, that is £100 a month over the 12 months. That is a cheap motor for someone and it will probably still hold £300 value at the end.
That car is worth £800 at an absolute maximum, I've recently purchased a 2010 mini R56 Cooper D with full BMW history for £1000
For the love of GOD matt WHY?!!!!
What is God and why would anyone love it?
I've got one, an 04 mini cooper s r53, just gone through 100k miles and it drives amazing! No way would you think that it's 20 years old, but believe it or not it's got an oil leak, rear washer blocked and remote locking not working!
Were decent engines pre-2006 👍
I've got a 2012 Cooper. Such fun to drive
Matt, shall we start a list of tyre brands and then at Xmas you can list them all, the first 1000 of us to pick one can enter into a charity raffle ( cos there must be a 1000 different hoo chi min ditch finders brands in existence) 😂
I have had a few Mini's and have always found them to be very reliable; if I am honest I'd get the dent fixed and sell between £1200-£1400 as it'll be a great local runner for someone and the Mini One can be remapped to match the Cooper of the same Generation; then they can go with Mini Styling like most do.
Why Are the plates worth so much?
I absolutely love minis. like a go kart quick compact relatively cheap reliable
Exceptional video again Matt .!!🎉 I'd happily pay £1200 for this grade of vehicle ... on proviso: it lasts 12 months, 12000 miles, without further garage-bills (other than standard consumables).
- Thereafter if it fails an MOT, at a cost of £300+, yep I'd scrap it/trade in. ❤
Advertised for £1495 (plus the money you will get for the plate)...and you dont want to be greedy?! Hmmmm🤔...but on top of that it "has to be trailered away"!!! 😂 😂
Charity shops for CD’s. Happy hunting ground. I think there is an OK car hiding under the filth. A good project for a new driver to work through the faults? But do new drivers want to bother anymore? £1295.
I had an '04 Mini Cooper a few years ago and I *really* wanted to love it - it had so much character, the interior was lovely and the seats/driving position were perfect! But it was so sluggish to drive and it went through oil like it was going out of fashion. Maybe I was comparing it unfairly to the 2.0 Fiesta ST I had before it (which got written off after a couple of people drove into the back of it 🙄) but it just wasn't as fun as I'd hoped it would be. Maybe I should have got a Cooper S? 🤔 Lovely looking cars, though! ❤
Do you know what, I would buy that from you as it will be a cheap run around.
I think you could easily get £1000-£1500 for that. But being a CAT D, I dont know how that will effect the sale price.
I'm surprised how strong the money is for these on Autotrader. There is a cat D 2004 on there right now for £1405 and non cat cars are much the same for similar mileage. Seems that with older cheaper cars, being a cat D doesn't seem to make much difference. Anyhow, I would say has got to be worth trying at £1495. That is nothing these days for a car with 12 months MOT without advisories that drives well.
£15 for a mini Valet sounds very v good value. I bet you are their best customer! Always look forward to your videos. One day is the lovely Boxter next day in an 04 mini! Topsy turvy world of motor trading:)
£995 and sell it to a youngster for their first car...once you have taken the value of the private plate off your cost you have 'Double your money' and 'paid back' the kindness that someone probably showed you when you were young[er]....profit in the bank and a bit of good karma, you can't lose! 🙂
As someone who knows nothing about selling used cars, I'd say £1395? 🤔 The previous car owner liked the lindt chocolate and you like percy pig sweets, don't you? 😆
My 2003 Mini Cooper had a gearbox gate fail on the M4, no gears. Steering issues, switches faulty, pile of shit car made in the UK, what do you expect. union labour
Excuse my ignorance, but why is the old plate so valuable? Bear in mind that I haven’t lived in the UK for forty years, so I’m obviously missing something.
Thanks Matt. I need a video like this after a long stressful day to unwind to. Always entertaining buddy 👌👏🙏
Tidy looking car. Always liked the look of them but their reputation puts me off
But you should have cleaned the fabric of the seats. It still looks dirty. I always get a bit reluctant to buy something with stains and dirt on the seat when a car is standing at a car dealer. So I’d say I would pay £1000 maximum and then set a pair of new Michelin tyres on if I am aiming to keep it for a longer time.
Oh and that Montero Kristall it’s from a German brand called Fulda - Fulda Kristall Montero actually 😊
Does your dealership take credit card payments? I need a motor after just passing my test and you are the only used dealer I know that actually sells straight motors. To clarify I live in Bradford.....I swear most of the used dealers here aren't using genuine MOT stations. They fail one day for huge issues then pass the next with no advisories but still look and sound like a bag of spanners dropping down stairs 🤷♂️
Sell it for 1250.
If somebody starts haggling tell them you'd make it 1249
Amazing , I watched 1 of these a couple of days ago and the top comment was "why do a car vertical ad after you have bought a car blind " this one starts with
" should have done this earlier really "
odd matt keeps reviewing heaps of crap i own or are considering
Just picked up a mini 6 days ago !
vile miserable depressing motoring ... a car which you struggle to find a single thing good about it
Gave £675 as i was without wheels after the flyesta died , bodywork much better than his and in pepper white . Mines has a mild front end so need a grill and a touch up pen .
Looking around old slk`s .... dont buy a go buying one of them next ya bugger
Looks like £1149 to me. It’s hard to be accurate without seeing the bodywork. You never can tell from photos or videos.
Rishi also now owns my neighbours offensive Qashqui, Keir has a truck in the village car park that has 'Police Aware' on the windscreen and Caroline Lucas owns your L405!!
Did the car vertical check come up with a cabrio model ?
saw that too!
Matt , i'm big fan , and for the price of the mini it is fair to say with the remaining months of MOT , damage and the good condition of the car , price will be fairly 975 or 1095 pounds ( i'm from Bulgaria , and here the prices are crazy even for normal mini )
Can we meet your mechanic one day, it'd be hilarious to see what she's got to say about all the wrecks you ask her to fix!
CD,s? Ermm yes i have around 200😂 but in my defence i run a 1996 toyota starlet. Thats my excuses 😂
i got a 207 1.4 vti same engine as mini and the person that was selling clearly knew how to hide a fault because i decided to do a full service, when i dropped the gear oil only 1lt was init and soon as i put 2lt oil in now has gearbox whine noise when slowing down under 2000rpm so private seller was hiding a major fault but lucky its still going done 20,000 miles a year but soon as it fail i not going to bother getting it replaced as i been quoted £800 for recon gearbox with new clutch.
Matt why are you bothered about service history for 300 quid, it's not relevant it's a banger. I have 500 cds of your want them for 50p each.😂
Hi matt great wee car, I think you should sell it for 1200 pounds, good wee car for someone. From marty in Belfast northern Ireland God bless
Why is that plate desirable? Why would he keep it, and why would someone pay 100£ for it? V99? Is that so desirable?
When I worked at a main dealer back in the day, part exchange cars that looked awful usually drove brilliantly. And cars that looked amazing, often drove appallingly. You can't have it both ways apparently.
Do you remember when a classic car used to be anything 20 years old, now it's 40 years, shows how much cars have improved.
I would say around £1200 is a fair price as it's not just the car you have to pay for but the your whole business, forecourt, monster fuel bills and all those sandwiches.. 😉
I'd pay £1250 happily if I was in the market for one. Love the outside of he new Mini but hate the interior which is very clownish and on steroids! Long live the original Mini.
Suddenly I feel like eating cheese, then more cheese. “Don’t I”, “Haven’t I”, “Isn’t it?”.
Lee at Car UK had a non cat silver 06 and struggled to get 1500 for it. And I think that had lower miles too!
Maybe try 1195?
Appears to be a nice little first car for somebody. Perhaps for somebody that has just passed their test. That’s if the CAT D doesn’t put them off. I think the retail price should be £995.
"I don't know much about the previous owner except they probably have diabetes", brilliant 😅😅
I reckon £1195.00, there is a point where a mini that's got 1 years mot and just been serviced will start to appreciate in value and I think it's a good first car for teenager or even as a little runabout as a second car to smoke around in. Let me know how you get on. John
