I have always loved the idea of how Cait Sith represents Reeve's childhood, and his true identity, even. It fits so well with the overall theme of identity that is so important to FF7. Everyone is putting on a brave face, trying to be something that is so much grander than what they really are deep down inside. Cloud trying to be the ideal SOLDIER when he is a desperate and lonely guy. Nanaki trying to be the mature and wise warrior worthy of being guardian of Cosmo Canyon when he is really still a young, excitable and naive child. Reeve trying to climb the corporate ladder to trying to beat Shinra at its own dirty game from the inside, when he is really such a noble-hearted, gentle, and simple man like his country parents. And then there's all the others who are trying so hard to be so much more than what they are comfortable with in order to achieve their dreams or goals. This take on the duality of Reeve and Cait Sith is great.
Paul has some great lore insights for someone who didn't grow up playing Final Fantasy. Respect. How is it there are still more things to learn after all this time...
I absolutely loved Cait Sith in this game and that is no small part to Paul’s exceptional voice work in this role…… absolutely THE breakout character for me in Rebirth!
What a treat! I’d been hoping to learn more about Paul Tinto and the process of creating the new Cait Sith. It’s hard for me to imagine a more perfect and natural realization of this character than what the team has achieved in Rebirth. Kudos! I’d love to see more conversations with the cast, especially with as intense a focus on the process of creating the character as in this video. Allowing spoilers is freeing for these conversations.
I think it’s a little too simple or cut and dry to think of Cait Sith and Reeve as one and the same. Sure, the lore talks about Reeve’s “inspire,” ability to give life to Cait Sith. And Reeve does control Cait Sith at many points in time, but I think outside of that, Cait Sith is his own entity. There are times where Cait Sith is completely in control, and times where Reeve is controlling him. I think it would be a better analogy to think of Reeve as Geppetto/the good fairy, and Cait Sith as Pinocchio. If you think of it that way, Cait Sith is quite a complex and tragic character. Great interview.
Completely agree ! My personal theory is that in Part 3, Cait Sith is going to grow more and more into his own individual, simply because Cloud and the others treat him as such. Reeve is nothing to them, but they care about Cait Sith. And I think that care is going to fill him with a proper conscience and a will of his own in the end, until he becomes a "real boy" like Pinocchio. He may still be Reeve's friend and partner, but he will fully belong in Cloud's party. I just cannot believe that the devs can possibly have made this character so endearing only to say at the last moment that he was another guy entirely, and with a totally different personality. Also, if Cait Sith was Reeve, he wouldn't have said "Don't fret about a bot like me" before dying, but instead something like "Don't fret about this bot" or "this body". It was Cait Sith talking, not Reeve. So he definitely is sentient.
I am one of those 180 degree turns on Cait Sith. He was awful in FFVII OG, even though I understood his importance. Giving him that much depth and emotion was incredible. And his “kinda” departure was truly heartbreaking. Fantastic job, one of my favorite voice performances in the game! Thank you for your awesome work!
Cait Sith's characterization in Rebirth was probably my FAVOURITE part of the game. I've always loved Cait Sith but hated using him because his Limits lol. Paul brought him to life in an amazing way
I like how you think purposely crossing someone's boundaries is clowning them when in reality youre the fucking clown lmao. The role and the actor are not 1 in the same dummy
The name pronunciation controversy is the biggest bs “controversy” I’ve heard in a while. All the people complaining are so ignorant about how Sephiroth’s name is pronounced it it’s native Hebrew language. It’s not “seh-phi-roth”… it’s “es-fir-ot”. But I didn’t see ANYONE bitch and moan about Square “not being respectful” to the language and mythology that gave birth to that word. Not a single word from anyone accusing Square of not representing Jewish culture properly, or trying to “erase” a language. People on the internet just like to pick and choose what they’re gonna virtue signal and not actually be feel strongly about what they’re bitching about.
You know, it’s really cringe, annoying and disrespectful to ask voice actors to act out the voices or say their character lines in an interview. These people get PAID to do that. Unless you’re writing them a check, asking them to perform for your show for your entertainment is such an irritating fanboy thing to ask. He declined in the nicest way one could decline but you could tell he was uncomfortable when you asked him to “get into the voice” for you. Don’t do such an amateurish move best time you have an actor on your show, ffs.
I can’t believe how endearing this character turned out to be. Hats off to the entire voice cast of this game. They’re the real mvps

Don't forget Barret acting like a tough guy when he's really a big softie.
I love hearing VA's perspective on the characters they play. This was a fun interview.

Paul said about the name of cait in Gaelic being more than one actually makes sense since there are at least 2 Cait Siths. That's pretty cool.
My name is Cait Sith, for we are many.
What phenomenal human being and talent. Thank you for this.
Watched most of this live and loved every second. Paul is an absolute gem.

Showing up unexpectedly to visit the rest of the cast is very Cait Sith. Man truly embodied the character.

Awesome get. His performance really made me fall in love with the character.
Thanks for sharing your time for this interview Paul. I use to hate cait sith guts, but that definitely changed for me in Rebirth.
The dialogue in gongaga with cait and Barret talking about snuggling up the night before was one of the funniest moments I’ve experienced in gaming
I really didn't like Cait's gameplay mechanics but I really enjoyed his character. Far more than I did in the OG, due in large part to Paul's VAing.
didnt care about Cait Sith in the original, but everytime he shows up in Rebirth, he always steals the spotlight.
Think we can all agree that we love Paul Tinto as Cait Sith. Just like the rest of the casting for the English VA, it’s a home run.
Why does he kinda look like cait sith when he smiles😭
Cait Sith was great to have in the party.
Paul Tinto did for Cait Sith in the FF7 remake(s) what André Peña did for Luis Sera in the RE4 remake.
Great discussion as always.
Thnk you both for your time.
A super cool conversation. Thank you both
Gotta be curious about the cat. Gonna enjoy this!! Nice voice acting, Mr. Paul!!!

Cait Sith is amazing! Paul nailed the voice.
This was awesome
Whoa hold on! Before this stream I swore I knew everything there was to kno about FF7 reeve can breath life into things!!
Bruce Wayne's Batman is Reeve Tuesti's Catman
I'm in love with Scottish accent
I hope I get to hear him say in the third game. Crackly lass shut ur boot( yes I’m sure I spelled it wrong) to yuffie
As a character
OG Cait Sith 2/10
Rebirth Cait Sith 11/10
What a glow up!!!
🏴🏴🏴
cait sith means many cats and that is what cait sith is many robot cats that share one soul
Best VA in the game
Kupo 😺😺😺😺
Now have Briana White on and call her Aerith. See how mad she quickly gets.
Why?
What? Lol
I like how you think purposely crossing someone's boundaries is clowning them when in reality youre the fucking clown lmao. The role and the actor are not 1 in the same dummy
"This game has a fair bit of dialogue."
And about half of it is Chadley's, unfortunately.

It’s really not that deep 💀
@@KingdomKeyJT You're 100% right its not deep: stop asking paid performers to dance for you. Simple as that.
Cait Sith is one the worst Final Fantasy characters.
He 'was' one of the worst. He has been improved a lot in Rebirth. People like him now, and they actually have good reason for that.
very bad take!
I always liked him. I just didn't like his Limit Breaks lol
Was*. He‘s not anymore
Leon from FF2 wants a word.
So does Penelo from FF12.
Hey you should interview Briana White, Aerith's VA. @strangerebelgaming
