WooHOO!! Feels fantastic to get to this point, and to hear JB say he's proud of me. :) I'm proud of me, too. Completed the build, and had a great first day of flying. After the fact, I had a realization about another benefit of DIY: Bothered by the routing of my O3 cable and a little 'tangle' hanging out the side of the FC -- I didn't have a MOMENT'S hesitation about grabbing the driver, removing the top plate, removing the FC and cleaning up the cable -- and had the whole build buttoned back up and ready to fly in just a few minutes time. The confidence of knowing EVERY detail about the assembly and custruction of the build, and exactly steps any process would entail - was something I haven't experienced with previous (either commercial DJI, or bind-n-fly) quads. Thanks again for all of the inspiration, information, and mentorship!

I Used this series to build a quad of my own, and I must say, the amount of detail, and thoroughness that you bring to these series is so appreciated. Every possible question I may have had you answered, or gave links on how to find the answer. Also your library of information is so deap I found myself watching 3-4 year old videos of yours that still were incredibly helpful! Thank you Joshua, I'm flying FPV in no small part because of you

Changing to max power on your VTX is really important. My first time flying I went blind on my Tinyhawk 3 freestyle. I did it in BetaFlight
Then came the walk of shame while I searched the area for my lost quad while neighbors laughed at me. I recovered the quad, downloaded betaflight and fixed the issue in minutes.

You are so awesome! I love you I love you I love you. This series was exactly what I needed, and came out just when all my parts were arriving. Even though I didn't have the kit you have in mind in these videos, you are incredibly educational throughout and I was able to figure out how to make mine work. I bought the wrong sized camera for the frame I have (I even tried really hard to match em up, lol), so for now only one side of the camera is screwed in. Still works just fine though :P. Upgrading from a whoop to one of these is like a golf cart to a supercar. The feeling of free falling upwards while in full control of which way you are looking is so unique and amazing. I was doing loops just looking at the ground and swooping out for an entire pack. Thanks again for the hard work you put into this content!!
EDIT: After 3 weeks of ripping packs, I am so happy I got into this. One of the best and most freeing feelings I've had in a long time. Thank you Bardwell and everyone else in this community for being amazing humans and welcoming vs gatekeeping. Peace and love

Joshua, thanks for all the great work you do!
I have only been flying a few months and started with 2 inch cinewhoops. Decided I wanted to start learning on a 5 inch and wasn't sure if 6s was the wrong move for a newer pilot but seeing you build a 6s for a first build tutorial is definitely making me feel better about the decision. I started with prebuilt drones, which I've already destroyed and rebuilt, so I feel like I learned all of these lessons in scattered order but went through this whole series start to finish and picked up a lot still. Feeling confident to put together my first drone from frame to flight.

This series was great. I really enjoyed it. I’m getting ready to build my first quad soon I’m accumulating parts right now. Currently flying a couple Rotor Riot builds and I unfortunately been trying to fix some stuff and should’ve really finish watching the series before I tried replacing the battery lead in the capacitor. I wouldn’t of fried my ESC if that were the case. But I like learning things the hard way apparently. I hope you add the GPS and buzzer and more content to this playlist. It was really great. Ive only been flying for about 2 months now and haven't flown larger than a 2.5 in. this was awesome thank you. One alternative to Loctite that we have started using in the firearms community is Vibratite. It sets faster and is intended to be reusable. Works great for our uses. Ill try it out on some of these drones now. Not sure if you wanted to try it out too Thanks again.

@joshuabardwell I want to say thank you for the series. Honestly took my dream of building a quad and made it a reality. However my quad decided to pop up wildly on preflight check. Is there a video you have done that will help me understand what to do next? Or why this is happening.

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  10 месяцев назад +1

If the quad suddenly pops up in the air and then disarms when you arm, it is almost always one of these things.
      1. Clockwise prop installed on counter-clockwise spinning motor or vice versa. Double check the motor direction is as expected and then double check that the correct prop is on each motor.
      2. Flight controller not facing forward. Go to the Setup tab in the configurator. Tilt the quadcopter on all axes (pitch, roll, yaw) with your hands. The 3D model in the configurator should move the same as you move it with your hand. If it does not, use the Board Alignment parameters in the Configuration tab to fix it. Do not use the "GYRO/ACCEL" parameter. Use the "Roll Degrees", "Pitch Degrees", and "Yaw Degrees" parameters.
      3. Motors not wired correctly. TAKE OFF YOUR PROPS. Plug in a battery. Go to the Motors tab. Use the "Reorder Motors" wizard to ensure that the motor order is correct.
      4. Motor spinning wrong direction. Do the same as step 3 but use the "Motor Direction" wizard to ensure that all motors are spinning the same direction as shown in the diagram.

Thank you so much!!!! It turns out that my calibration on my tango 2 was off. After watching your vid I didn't realized that you have to move the sticks in that cross pattern after you map all the quadrants. As you do it will tighten up the calibration and no more pop ups. You have put so much effort into this series that I just had to be a part of it and make my own JB quad. I'm definitely going to start showing up in your patreon. Keep up the great work! @@JoshuaBardwell

@@myersbob7517 that would be nice, I have another question and that is how long can you fly with 1 of your batteries?

@damian4176 one battery lasts a few minutes it doesn't sound like much but trust me it feels like longer

Well....second flight (first battery) and the quad is lost! Had vtx at 25mw....was throttle up abt 30%. Rolled abt 20*....lost video, snatched goggles off (put glasses back on)....
It flew off into very dense woods. Searched until the battery was dead. Never even got close to finding it. Fast way to piss away $400!

Sorry to hear about this. Always disarm immediately if you lose video, unless you are definitely experienced enough to recover another way. Always fly somewhere where if you dump the quad, it will be recoverable (not over dense forest or water for example). And best to use max power as shown in the Playlist.

@JoshuaBardwell I was in panic mode. Now I'm in wife unhappy mode. My yard is similar to yours except I'm surrounded by 100 acres of woods. No choice...well that's not true. I SHOULD have (a) spent more time in simulator. (b) gone somewhere with more open room while learning. (c) had a spotter with me. (d) not been so damn impatient to fly.
Loved putting the kit together and learned a ton from it and your videos. Guess I'll start with getting 1 or 2 parts per payday now. At least I've got a good radio and some goggles. Maybe i should do a "SUPER DUPER CHEAP 5 INCH BUILD" video with the absolute cheapest parts i can find. 😀
Thanks again JB! I did learn something today!

Would it be possible to connect the FC with a raspberry pi so I can control the drone with my computer app / wifi ?

In theory yes. In practice there would be a lot of details to work out.
