Kevin is correct. That was a DCL racer. Unless you are racing in DCL, I don't think that is the best frame for you to use. It has certain specific requirements that may not be ideal for other situations.

That was great Joshua. I wonder what you could do if you got obsessive, and practiced continuously for a long time? You look very controlled. The Kevin Turner's of the world also look very controlled as they do stuff mind blindingly fast. You'd do great if you really dedicated yourself to racing. But you fly great. And the sim seems so valuable that unless you're rich, with lots of quads and people to go get your quad and start fixing while you keep practicing, the simulation would be essential. I fly airplanes, and I've found that for keeping competent at flying instruments, low end simulators like Microsoft's X, work great. There, even though it doesn't feel like the plan, the instrument scan, and the procedures are all the same, and that's the hard part. I learned to fly by you on Freeflight. Thanks. Learning what I did on a real quad would have been stupid!

Hey JB and/or Comment Section, I'm really struggling and could use any help. I've been dipping my feet into FPV for a few months now, and I am KILLING it in the simulator. Whenever I go to actually fly the drone though, it just moves through the air much faster and the tuning doesn't even feel remotely the same as it does in the simulator (under Velocidrone's "Advanced Drone Setup"). I am uncomfortable and constantly nervous flying it in real life, while I rarely crash or touch any unwanted surfaces in Velocidrone. Does anyone have any tips?
You're ready to move to the real thing. Stick time on the real thing is the next step. You won't be as comfortable as in the sim but the sim is never exactly the same thing as real life. Start in a wider-open area where you have room to move without crashing into things and work your way up.
Josh what do you think about setting up a drone on Velocidrone. I am new to fpv and wanted to practice with my sim (velocidrone ) with the most realistic drone settings. Help me out with my set up?
I have both Velocidrone and DRL. Velocidrone feels so much more "locked in" for me. I can't fly the MultiGP tracks in DRL anywhere near as well as I can fly them in Velocidrone. In DRL I am always overshooting my lines and struggling to not to either climb above the best height or accidentally drop to the ground. It's frustrating. I do ok on the DRL tracks where I can run wide open throttle all the time, but I suck badly on tight courses where speeds are lower and throttle plays a bigger part.
I recently bought a remote controller AT9S (radio link). What simulator is compatible with the AT95 and that works OS (MacBook Pro). Also, where I can buy the cables, usb and all that stuff for international shipping ?
Joshua - can you please explain in your shopping list which controllers have a USB port so I could practice the simulator with the same controller I'm flying with? - thanks!
@@marc_frank Aye, it was open demo for a while, but I think it just went onto lock down until full release, I could be totally wrong on that. But I will say,for me, out of all the simulators it is the closest "feeling" to flying my 6" quad irl.
I have a love hate relationship with velocidrone (the best sim iv used). Its fun but still feels to unrealistic and my track times are slower than real life. Great to learn muscle memory of flying without crashing though.
Hi Josh, cheers from Roma Italy from a new subscriber!, i'm an absolute beginner on drones world and i'd like to practice first on a simulator before to jump i the "real game"(or just to understand if this will be my next best hooby!), so, watching your amazing videos here i've decided to buy a betafpv lite radio and one (or both) simulator between velocidrone or liftoff. the question is: i have a macbook pro M1 and i can't find over the web any indications if both rc controller and simulators works properly on an Apple silicon mac. any suggestion? thanks in advance. Andrea
Here's a question I don't think anyone else has asked: Since most (all?) simulators have rectilinear 'cameras' (straight lines look straight), and quad FPV cameras are all fisheye - does that affect your perception of the course in any way when you transition from sim to real? Similarly, does transitioning from the computer screen to goggles affect anything?
Try Velocidrone with True Lens turned on, if you computer can handle it. It's a resource hog, but worth it, IMO. Depending on the track, I'll turn all the pretty stuff off and run at 800x600 so that I can have it turned on. I figure that's better than my goggles and it makes it feel the most real.
@Oh Geez! Thanks, I recalled one sim did fisheye but couldn't remember which one. I don't race, I use FPV Freerider Recharged just to practice freestyle moves, I'm not trying to fly any simulated course and then apply that to a real version of it, just zipping around improving muscle memory. Sometimes I'll plug my computer into my HD2's for a bit more realism :)
@@licensetodrive9930 Velocidrone is great for freestyle too! There are way more freestyle maps than the other Sims. Plus, with true lense and the ability to simply plug in your goggles as a display, Velocidrone really becomes a no-brainer.
Wow, this is my first year of racing so how did you know this is exactly the question I have been asking? Going to get off You Tube and download Velocidrone now! -Swampdog!
That's my biggest problem with racing. Managing to go fast and follow the damn course correctly. Slower I do fine. Start pushing the speed and I go through gates the wrong way or completely line up wrong going through. Ya... I'll stick to freestyle and cruising
Still getting a couple hours of Velocidrone practice per day before buying my first quad myself, so what "V" settings are you using to match your physical drone Joshua?
I am flying the defaults here. The truth is that every quad is different, so the simulator will never feel exactly like the real thing, but the real thing will never feel exactly like the real thing either.
@@JoshuaBardwell Thanks Joshua. I was asking as I have one of the drones in the collection set to Steel's settings as suggested in one if his vids he made it "feel" like his own. Makes it quite snappy. Any suggestions on a local shop in Knoxville? Nothing over here on this side of the mountain (Asheville).
Can you do a video of you flying in Liftoff vs real life? Since your front yard is a level in the game it might be a good way to compare life vs simulator and finding good sim settings for realistic flight.
FYI, Velocidrone does have mid-airs...but everyone has it turned off...and everyone would have to be honest and have it on to be fair for the official races.

@@JoshuaBardwell wonder what that rig consists of is it a team secret? Thanks for writing back jb
Is that a 7 inch frame?
My flight in real life (first flight from balcony):

And my flight in simulator (Liftoff):

I think there is a little difference 🤣
What is Velocidrone .. where can i learn how to connect it to my transmitter .
NIce. Yeah sims will help. By the way nice 5.0L Josh
I have liftoff is that a goos enough flite sim
What the F is that quad in the bottom left corner of the video at 5:21?
It's a DCL racing quad.
www.dcl.aero/
Which track name is this?
Also I would say try using the ghost lap on Velocidrone as that seems like a great way to progress. Cheers
That's the TOG GQ track. Just search "TOG" and you'll find it, along with a bunch of other wicked fun real life tracks.
5:14 BeratFPV is there to win some races :D
Yükseklerde Berat is very good !
@@kevinjulievan in deed he is :)
nice track....what the name of this track on veloci?
Man, I gotta get into racing once COVID is over. That looked like a blast
Do you think you would do better with your freestyle rig and rates instead of changing to a race quad and rates?
Definitely not. Lower rates for racing give much much MUCH more control. The only thing they can't do is snappy moves, which freestyle pilots want.
Your accent gets more and more southern through the video... same thing happens to me when I'm around my family 😂
could almost pass as Dr Phil towards the end haha.
Jokes aside, another informative video and I really enjoy listening to Evan. He's humble and articulate and has some great insights. Thanks for the vid
Help me
out with my set up?
10:15 in anyone else hear is voice get a little more southern than usual lol. Maybe being so far north I can hear it more idk.
That happens when I spend all day hanging around natives LOL.
LMOA I love how you put in the footer "Evan Turner (HeadsUpFPV) FASTER THAN ALEX VANOVER"
I have to imagine that's a jab!
It's just a fact that he beat Vanover at the DRL championships. Got to keep Alex humble you know.
I recently bought a remote controller AT9S (radio link). What simulator is compatible with the AT95 and that works OS (MacBook Pro). Also, where I can buy the cables, usb and all that stuff for international shipping ?
ruclips.net/video/wuobzowLfj0/видео.html
Is this version of the course available in stock velocidrone? I have a slightly different version in the "empty grass" scene.
All I know is I downloaded the latest version and this was available from it.
I have no idea on how to know where to go, have you ever done a tutorial on how to read the markers?
Honestly you have to memorize the track. I'm not sure anybody relies solely on the markers.
Rick LaBanca but somehow you knew to go to the top vs bottom gate direction etc. how do you know that?
Joshua - can you please explain in your shopping list which controllers have a USB port so I could practice the simulator with the same controller I'm flying with? - thanks!
All controllers have a USB port. That's how they are configured.
5:17 I have to just say I frikin loooove the DCL drones and the DCL in general. Go QF1! :D
i can't download the dcl game from steam
it says it will launch in 3 months
Andrea
You should ask the game dev support email about this I'm not sure.
@@JoshuaBardwell thank you!
Here's a question I don't think anyone else has asked:
Since most (all?) simulators have rectilinear 'cameras' (straight lines look straight), and quad FPV cameras are all fisheye - does that affect your perception of the course in any way when you transition from sim to real?
-Swampdog!
What's your outro music?
I started with DRL because Liftoff is dumb and wants you to have a crazy PC for it. Velocidrone vs DCL for my next one?
That's my biggest problem with racing. Managing to go fast and follow the damn course correctly. Slower I do fine. Start pushing the speed and I go through gates the wrong way or completely line up wrong going through. Ya... I'll stick to freestyle and cruising
What are your settings, my dad and I got it and our quad floats endlessly, and the rates stink.
I am flying in default settings here.
Make sure you are getting at least 60 fps. If you have a weak graphics card it can affect the physics feel.
Is there a guide anywhere for settings in Velocidrone? I usually fly Liftoff and can hardly find my way in Velocidrone, gave up several times.
Maybe just copy from Steele or somebody
Steele has tutorial
Steele's settings are for a much older version of velocidrone I think.
@@JoshuaBardwell I just set up last night with Steel's settings. What do you recommend now? Stock settings?
Valocedrone settings? And which drone? Cam tilt etc
Default settings. Cam tilt like 45 degrees. Drone was the Karearea I think.
Omg yes! Have a drone repair simulator! Like car mechanic simulator
Can you do a video of you flying in Liftoff vs real life? Since your front yard is a level in the game it might be a good way to compare life vs simulator and finding good sim settings for realistic flight.
I've been using DRL to help me get better!
@Joshua Bardwell.....What are the quietest 5in props that you've tested???
I can't find the track on Velocidrone
Good job that day Bardwell! Next quad doc will race Taq :)
Muki FPV he’s next ! I’ll bet he can power loop each gate faster than I can fly it normally !
FYI, Velocidrone does have mid-airs...but everyone has it turned off...and everyone would have to be honest and have it on to be fair for the official races.
Interesting, sounds like Time Attack Races.
Could have 2 types of races, even more with some imagination....
better question... can you even be competitive without practicing for a race in a simulator. lol!
I give you an answer... =)
Totally true. You can - but it's way more expensive.
This is the best response! Especially for memorizing those lines. Look at how many pilots that are in sportmans class and see how many seconds separate them.
Wow, this simulator legitimately looks better than real life ; )
I'm using LiftOff to learn freestyle. Is Velocidrone more closer to the real one?
Hi what simulator did u flay
I should fly more MultiGP tracks on VelociDrone, been flying your yard in LiftOff a lot lately!
What do you think about DRL simulator?
I have a review of it up on my channel
Really, really interesting conversation, Joshua! And great flying there! 😃
Why do so many racers run analog vs digital?
