I've been practicing for about a year now after putting 30 or so hours into the Liftoff simulator. I started out with analog, but have since switched to digital. This is one of the first practices PIP: ruclips.net/video/XXqPBSG4Qx0/видео.html
People can get different success rates with the simulator, all other variables aside like learning rate and all. How you fly in the sim is really important. You must practice slow and controlled hovers and low to the ground smooth forward and coordinated turns. Trying to dive, even hit gaps or do the more amazing looking stuff rightaway is a mistake. Hoverring and smoothly landing come by practice and memory of how your drone reacts, to throttle input. If you are a beginner reading this , remember low and slow is the way to go.
Completely agree… since those flights I’ve created some simple circuits in the park like in the simulator that helps you get used to flying low. My stick control has improved so much since going back to basics and flying slowly… so can confirm everything you said is 100% the way people should go
I would say kinda I think a aspect that you forgot is the reason we fly fpv for most its a hobby something they do in their free time while yes doing controlled hovers is a faster way of improving a lot of people would get bored
I totally understand that and I was pretty much the same… I think as I’ve been trying to refine my control (especially as I’ve been flying indoors too) I’ve gone through the pain of doing more boring exercises which has totally made my progression happen so much faster
I have quit learning guitar and harmonica because I hated doing simple repetitive exercises over and over again. Now I’m on my 6+ hours into a simulator and I can’t even hover well. Frustrated, pissed off and angry, I will press on to continue practicing
Try using a tinywhoop if you can in the simulator, the bigger quads are way more powerful but it does mean that you need much more throttle control to be able to hover them. The other thing you can do (if your sim allows) is to add throttle expo… this bends the throttle curve so it starts gentle as you move the stick and then ramps it up as you get to the top/bottom of the stick deflection. You can also do this for each axis which might also make it easier. Look for something called “rates” the big number (usually starts at 670) is the amount of degrees the quad will move on that axis per second, if you lower it to 500 it won’t spin as much
Great video mate, you've provided me with enough hope to keep at it with the simulator, nicely done on flying acro first as well! 😂 The thing i love most about this hobby though ive yet to partake, is that its quite simply good honest fun for all ages.
I still fly in the sim today just to get a new trick or if the weather is bad and I want to get stick time in. But you’re right one of my favourite things when I’ve had a hard day/week is to grab a quad and just fly for the fun of it
I love this video, I’m planning on going through the same process and it’s nice to see a video that isn’t “Insane FPV Flight”. We can’t all be experts. Very happy you put this out there. 👏👍🚁🎥
Thank you! It was that first take off with the props the wrong way that got me 😂 As much as I thought by that first flight I’m going to be doing some crazy stuff… as soon as I got the goggles on and took off for real it’s such a rush that you forget everything you intended on doing 😂 If you film that first flight and upload it let me know and I’ll come check it out! Good luck!
As much we all think we’re gonna fly like Mr Steele as soon as we fly for real it’s also important to show the reality of getting excited that it even takes off 😂
That’s actually a really good point I hadn’t thought of it that way! And even though I’m flying a read quad now Im still on the sim a lot especially when the weather is bad
That was me trying to keep it together… inside I wanted to jump around screaming 😂😂 But maybe you’ll get that feeling of the first flight again if you haven’t done it for awhile… and the digital systems make the goggle view amazing!
😂😂😂 what I didn’t mention in the video is the second flight was actually delayed to the next day because a harvester appeared in the field I did the first flight on… and didn’t want to risk it 😂
Never flown FPV don’t plenty of regular drone flights specially outside the country. Would love to start. Don’t know if somebody has a starter kit they would like to sell.
Really enjoyable video. I'm only a year into the hobby and love being able to see my progress. Keep old flight footage and review it from time to time and you get a real sense of how far you've come.
You’ve pretty much summed up the reason why I make RUclips videos 😉 although part of me really thinks I should create an entirely separate channel for FPV now as it’s so addictive!
I remember that feeling in June of 2019. I started with 5 inch quad and for 6 months, my experiences were 1) fly aways 2) failsafes. Those went away when I soft mounted the fc and switched to TBS crossfire. I'm so glad you started with ACRO. You started it right. I also started ACRO. Congratulations!
I spent hours learning about failsafes before I flew for the first time… also part of the reason I flew in that field just in case I had a fly away… I’ve flown that drone for hours now and so far so good but that was my biggest panic getting started because you don’t get to practice that in sim 😂 But sounds like I need to check out your channel if you’ve been doing this for 3 years!
I agree with your observation on Acro mode, I myself started using Angle mode because i was scared of crashing, but when i learned to use the Acro, i find it more difficult to control the Angle mode, i can feel the quad is always fighting my inputs, where as with acro, i am totally in control.
That’s exactly it… in angle or horizon it feels like the quad is fighting me with me for control rather than doing what I want it to do… I was recently in a different sim and had to get through beginner (horizon) mode to unlock acro… I looked like I had never flown a quad before 😂
I just got my first tinywhoop yesterday after having 10+ hours of flight time in a simulator (coincidentally Velocidrone) and I can relate to every single word you speak in this video. Even about your preference of acro mode over other modes. I couldn't have expressed this feeling into words better than you. Thank you so much for the video. I'm gonna show it to my wife now! 😄
Thank you and welcome to FPV! Velocidrone isn’t as fun as the other simulators (I’ve been trying a lot of them recently) but it’s the one I keep going back to as it is so close to the real thing when it comes to learning new tricks. which tiny whoop did you go with?
Here's an important tip: Learn about LiPo Battery Safety and Usage. They can be finacky and light on fire. Also, if you are in the States, check out the FAA Part 107 Certification. Otherwise, outstanding work Pilot! Welcome to FPV!!!
I have a bat safe box and spent a lot of time down the YoiTube rabbit hole of LiPo safety and storage 😂 In Switzerland the drone laws here are pretty simple but have been looking into the certification for larger >4kg drones as I think there’s probably a lot I could learn from it too
It's always fun to see someone on their first flight. The simultaneous joy and terror are an amusing combination. :) Bravo mate! I've got the Cinerace 20 Neon (Purple) as well, it's a fun little drone. :) The feel between RL and Sim can be... surprising. Edit: It's best to learn on Acro. Horizon and Angle have their uses, but they're poor for training purposes. They reinforce bad habits if you're just beginning. :)
The thought of breaking or losing your quad is so much more pressure 😂 This little cineracer has taken so many hits over the last few months and has continued working like new. Then a few weeks ago I managed to finally crack one of the ducts. 5min repair and it’s back in the air! I have other quad now too but there will always be a special place in my loadout for this one
@@GarethDix Your first (FPV) quad is always special, whether you built it yourself or not. However, having said that... The first one you BUILD will always be the most special to you I think. :) And yeah, the pressure is definitely there. I've yet to obliviate one, but I'm rather careful and conservative in my flying right now (still learning, but quickly!) though, I've slammed into trees left and right and I did murder a gopro hero 10 black, but... such is the hobby! I also can't afford to just smash quads, they're spendy! I like the little Cineracer because it's so tough, albeit a bit slower paced than I'm used to with the 5" and 7" quads. :) Happy flying!
@@GarethDix after the initial shock and altering the throttle stick on remote I seem to be getting there slowly. Great fun though. Cannot wait to fly real thing.
@martinambler3774 the one thing the sim doesn’t prepare you for is the very real fear of crashing and having to do the walk/climb/hike of shame to retrieve the quad… but otherwise you’ll love it
Inb4 Gareth puts "FPV" in his name, lol. Yea its a great hobby, you did everything right so far. Once you get use to flying ducted quads, you should try any open prop quad. For a beginner I would recommend something in the 3 inch prop size especially considering your access to small spaces. Open props are ALOT more fast and sensitive to control inputs.
Hahaha after this video I actually considered creating a whole new channel for FPV… no one told me how addictive it was going to be (largely the reason I haven’t made any videos for a few months because I’m always flying) But yes I have a 1.5” micro that I bought to fly around the house (although it’s way too powerful) and I also have a 5” now as well because I wanted to see what it’s like before the rules change here in 2024. But you’re right about how different open props are… it’s sooooo much fun
you are a few weeks ahead of me... I'm still waiting to receive my first Whoop from Banggoods. I have been practicing in "Uncrashed" and watching allot of Bardwell videos.. ..Glad I stumbled on to your Channel... Keep having Fun..!
I was about to download I crashed the other day and then saw Tryp which also looks amazing! Will you film that first flight? Flying in reality is very similar except there’s the added element of if you crash badly or lose it by getting stuck in a tree it’s going to cost money 😂 Also you’ll find that flying far away and then crashing means a lot of walking to get the drone… so set up turtle mode (JB has a video on that)
Hi, one tips. Easy to forget, when im starting fpv, my friend told me to take off the googles, and hover that quad, and see, the behaviour the quad, with our eyes, not using a googles, if you can hover steady at airmode then everything will follow, if struggle with throttle, try use expo and limitation ^^ its okay,. Im starting with angle mode, and finally acro mode, and still using angle mode when im fly indoor, it helps a lot. Using acro mode instead airmode in indoor. . the phase. Enjoy.
Thanks for the tips! I tried flying LoS after someone else told me the same and I flew off into a tree 😂😂 I weirdly find it much easier with the goggles although would like to get better at LoS flying too
Honestly the first part is a huge struggle but then it will all click. It’s fairly dry but it’s worth going through the velocidrone training videos from the beginning, I thought I could do it without them but it helps make the basic controls make sense! Because they’re RUclips videos you don’t even need velocidrone to learn from them 😉 But post me a link to your first real flight when you get there, I’d love to see how it goes!
This is really inspiring man! I'm now waiting for my first fpv quad to arrive, as I ordered it 3 days ago... and I'm kinda in this same exact situation, I've been working on the sim and I feel now pretty comfortable with flying mechanics but I'm now really looking forward on how what I now know to do inside the sim will translate to the real world with a real quad... seeing your experience is really cool! Also about the flight modes even in the simulator I feel angle and horizon mode really uncomfortable and restrictive after you're already used to fly in acro... the only situation I find them useable is for indoor flights... but I guess after you get used to fly in such a tight spaces one could also try acro and be more comfortable hahahaha great video man! I hope to have such a great first experience too pretty soon
You’ll love it… the extra risk involved with flying for real keeps you on your toes but otherwise the flying is pretty much the same… the handset part is the set up and problem solving if it doesn’t fly straight away 😂
@@GarethDix hahahaha yeah I guess the stress will rise a little but I'm super excited for it and you give me a lot of confidence with this answer, one of the biggest doubts I have in my mind precisely that... how different will it feel when flying a real drone, but based on your experience it should be just great, of course I'm aware that even the best pilots still crash so... I know that I will sooner or later too so that also gives some relive though
@maurosk818 don’t worry after a few crashes you’ll realise that the quad can take it and you don’t worry about it as much! Good luck with the flight and if there any help you need just let me know
😂😂😂 I think I just crash landed in the sim everytime and hadn’t realised until I came in to land that I had never done it before! But since this video I’ve been learning to perch in the hope it might teach me to land a little softer 😂
I got my first DJI drone (Mini 3 Pro) a few weeks ago and am enjoying it. It's led me to FPV videos on RUclips. I'm starting to learn FPV with Drone Racing League in Acro / Rates to learn as I believe if you want to fly FPV you really want Acro / Rates mode. I've spent two evenings and find it's going relative slowly, but I did do some laps around the blimp tonight with at least modest success. I'll spend some time in Velocidrone this weekend to compare. I've decided I not going to buy an FPV drone and goggles until I've demonstrated I can fly it in the sims. I hope I'll feel beginner proficient in 10 hours, but I'm guessing a bit longer? I'm flying with a Radiomaster Zorro in the sims. I'm leaning towards Googles 2 + Motion 2 which will work with my DJI, although I'm thoroughly undecided about the Motion 2. I've not decided which FPV drone to get, but maybe something along the lines of a Mobula8 with O3 Air or similar.
yeah FPV is a completely different beast to flying a normal DJI drone especially in acro... but it is a lot more rewarding after you get through the HUGE learning curve. it's amazing that you've already started to make the jump so early after getting the mini 3 it takes most people a year or two before they even think about FPV! The DRL simulator is fun and teaches pretty well... but the physics feel weird and you don't get the same sense of speed as I think you have to be travelling pretty fast to feel like you're travelling quickly. Velocidrone is very accurate to flying in real life and although I did this in 10 hours, since then I've realised that this isn't normal with a lot of people getting about 30 hours in before being able to fly around comfortably... that said there are other people that did an hour on the sim and then went straight into flying for real! Although the motion controller will work with the DJI mini 3, it won't work with a normal FPV quad, the radiomaster Zorro will work with an FPV quad though. I'd recommend getting a smaller cinewhoop for a first quad though. although they aren't as powerful, fast or manoeuvrable as a freestyle or racing quad, they're a lot more stable, easier to control and if you get a good one it'll last a long time without needing repairs.
@@GarethDix thanks for the considered response. My plan is to reward my progress in the Sims, when I am feeling it, with a Mobula8 with O3 to match the Goggles 2 (and motion) coming tomorrow. More sim time!
That’s an awesome first drone… get yourself a UV filter to protect the lens on the O3 though as it’s an expensive replacement (and crashes happen a lot at first). Let me know how it goes and film that first flight and share the link!
Great inspirational video. I am doing the tutorials, crashing every 30 seconds, and wondering if I will ever achieve what you did in the video. Thank you for making this.
It’s so hard to begin with and then all of a sudden you realise you’re flying (and then you crash but a little further). Keep going though I promise it does get a lot easier!
Wow, that was really cool. A lot more to it than one would think. Such a neat futuristic device that's a game changer a so many platforms. You did great zipping around and going through those statues at the end 😮🕳🙌
Thank you! Check out the other comments here as a lot of new pilots also dropped links to their first flights as well… it’s great seeing real beginners at this because normally it’s people that are sooooooo good and then I couldn’t even get it off the ground 😂
Hey I enjoyed your video you did great I’m right now just starting an hour into my….well first hour on the simulator. I’ve got the DJI Avata with both controllers and I’m planning on doing a video when I take it out. Anyway thanks for sharing man, you did great
Welcome to the hobby! Definitely do the video and a few years later you’ll see how much you’ve improved! Try and force yourself to use the normal controller, it’s quicker to fly with the motion controller… but if you want to fly well use the normal one! Looking forward to seeing the video!
if you crash a lot, please be aware if you experienced any reduced vtx range, you should check the vtx antenna first, cinerace20 antenna break easily, a small crash into concrete can easily affect the video range
It’s amazing you said that because earlier today I was just saying I’m getting a lot of interference on the VTX but assumed it was where I was standing… I’ll check that out this evening
@@GarethDix and also try to use the channel 3 instead other channel on your DJI goggle, that's because channel 3 is not used by any standard 5G router or access point that can cause signal interference problems
This makes me more excited for my first irl fpv flight and I am already pretty excited. I have 100+ hours in sims now so I'm really interested to see how well my first flight goes, of course I'll be DVR-ing it, only analog though because I'm cheap!! 😅
Will you upload how that first flight goes? With 100 hours in the sim I’d love to see how that goes, you should be way better than how I did! And although I did my first flight with DJI I’ve been flying a lot of analog more recently because of the tinywhoops I’ve grown to love
@@GarethDix Probably. I'm only playing with a PS4 controller atm, so I'll probably plug my radio into the SIM when I get it and spend a few hours getting used to that, then I'll send it 👍
@@TheWaddler I think if you can fly with a PS4 controller you're going to find it much easier once you get the radio... it takes a bit of getting used to but you'll have sooooo much more control!
@@GarethDix Yeah so I've heard, I have pretty good throttle control with a PS4 controller and it's only half the range! I think I've found my rates, but I'm fully expecting them to change because of the increased precision on a proper radio. I also haven't decided if I'll pinch or thumbs on a proper radio, probably thumbs because I'm a gamer, but I want to try pinch or at least hybrid.
I’m not sure my max will run it as I heard it requires a pretty powrful computer but it really does look amazing… saw someone practicing following a racetrack on that earlier which looked awesome
I definitely need to find somewhere with a lot of space before I try a 5inch… I think depending on the weight I might also need to have insurance and certifications etc
@@stevo43068 I did look at a long-range 4" from Flywoo for flying around mountains etc... but apparently not so great for freestyle and I literally just finished a Joshua Bardwell video on the Ummagawd 5" and that looks really promising!
I’ve been flying drones for 20 years. I’ve owned the inspire, inspire pro, the inspire 2. I’ve been licensed since 2016 when the FFA So I’m very familiar with the products and what they’re capable of but it’s like starting over at Ground Zero when it comes to FPV. I probably have A new RUclips channel I’m going to start lol not like throwing all the irons in the fire at once. Anyway I like your videos and I’ll be talking about you in my channel. Thanks again
It’s so true… having full control with no automatic assistance was a huge shock when I first started but the best thing is that once you get over the initial pain of trying to get it off the ground and control it… the improvements start to come very quickly! But looking forward to seeing your videos on the new channel, let me know when you have it up and running and I’ll sub to you so I can see it all happen!
Thanks for sharing your experience(s) in getting going Gareth. I can't speak for others, but I went straight into flying (the sim came a distant second) so there's no one-way that works for everyone. In principle, I do tend to agree that the sim is a good place to start. Secondly, flying a smaller machine like you are, is in a lot of ways harder than a standard 5 inch 'freestyle' quad, but this should set you up nicely for if/when you fly your first 5 inch unit. Thanks again for sharing. This hobby is so cool.
I how did your first flight go without the simulator? I really had to fight the urge to just jump in without the sim. You could see from my early simulator attempts that it probably wouldn’t have ended well 😂 I found the tiny whoops so much easier in the simulator than the 5inch quads but maybe I should give this a go again as I feel like the real life flying has improved my sim flying too!
@@GarethDix I started with a TinyWhoop, and thankfully so, as it was far more resistant to crash damage than a full 5 inch would have been. I didn't actually crash that much. My very first day with the TinyWhoop was about as bad as it got. I tried flying line-of-sight indoors and (even in stab/angle mode) it was just a diasaster. I was pretty dispondant given I had been flying other things like little helicopters and all that for a few years before-hand. But after a little perseverance, fast-forward a few weeks and I was flying in acro mode with goggles (reasonably well). I found my 'real life' flying helped me in the sim (once I finally bought one) - which is the 'normal pathway' in reverse. I'm almost 50, so sims don't really interest me that much. My age likely formed the bulk of my decision to just get straight into 'real' flying, As I'm not much of a computer gamer. I think the sim->real approach is a good one. For me, I just didn't want to 'play games on a computer' (pardon the expression) before I got into it.
@@GarethDix And if there's anything that this hobby's taught me, it's that there's no one, 'correct', way to do anything. I really enjoy hearing about how people got into it, because it shows how many different ways there are to come to the same fun end-game.
I find it really hard to fly LoS the few times I’ve done it the drone was bouncing around all over the place 😂 But I understand what you meant about the sim… I really didn’t want to sit there in front of the screen playing a game I wanted to fly for real… but I had to wait for 3 weeks for the drone to arrive anyway so I figured I might as well. But yes love hearing how people got into it as there’s definitely no set formula!
ngl, I didn't enjoy my first flight on my babyApe toothpick cause it was too fast and I got scared when I tried to steer it line of sight and it felt like i was gonna lose it. thankfully, i later got a cinewhoop with a cinematic preset rc_link and low kv motors and it was wayyy more enjoyable for a newb. Will say that landing, camera angle dynamics, and auw handling are things the simulator can't really prepare you for. the additional weight of batteries makes it hard to land, if your camera angle doesn't match what you practiced for on sim you are in for a treat, and going gaps seems impossible since you don't see anything but the video frame so it's hit or miss(usually hit something alright:)
Yeah at first I was thinking I’ll get some badass 5in freestyle quad… then after trying it out in the sim and not being able to think fast enough to fly one of those I also thought a cinewhoop would be much easier to learn with. Which cinewhoop did you get?
@@GarethDix geprc cinelog35, but its down right now cause i broke off the antenna connector trying to remove the mmcx antenna i broke during a flight. Its not bad but i think im just gonna build one with more quality components
Got less < 30h in sim, i feel very confident that i could fly very well if i got the chance. I also learned in ACRO since that is what appeal to me. Would love a 5" freestyle setup but its a bit out of reach for now. If something, i might get a controller since i feel w/e i use right now doesnt have enough resolution for pushing things further.
You can always get a 5in in the future… it’s worth getting a proper radio though as the resolution of the gimbals (I’m assuming you’re using a gaming controller) is so much better. You’ll find it weird to control at first but after about 30mins to an hour you’ll find it much easier to fly with. But take the jump into a real flight you’ll love it!
Yes stay with Acro for sure angle mode is good for whoop racing. And begging but ,i never have tried a sim i dont own a computor or a laptop i use my phone for betaflight and i fly analog allways have cant afford a laptop much less digital lol but glad to see you flying outside the sim now get a 5 incher a freestyle
Great video! Explorer LR 4 HD DJI O3 Sub250 4K/1080P Micro Long Range…. That one!! Less than 250g and with gps but its less than 5in… but you can fly anywhere
@@GarethDix will Never feel like a 5 inch quad, but I can’t find a 5inch less than 249g especially because I love dji O3 and that it’s heavy, there is some options with the O3 unit but they are 3 or 3.5 inches
I will likely get an explorer at some point as I dip my toes into long range. I think the ummagawd 2fiddy is the only sub250 5inch… but I think it’s more about getting the feel than it actually being 5inch… I’m building a 3” and a lot of 3.5” in the comments that I might give a go too to see what feels most like it
Im have aprox 600 hours (reinstalled a few times and lost timer) on velocidrone, mostly sim racing with no irl fpv flight time. I just ordered a cinelog 25 as my first drone. Can't wait for my first flight soon. :) Will try to document! :)
If you have that much time on a sim you’ll go full send on the first flight! Just remember to practice landing in the sim… and also remember if you crash you have to go get it 😂😂 Seriously though would love to see what your first flight is like!
@@GarethDix I held back flying because i was curious about stories of sim pilots going from sim to grabbing podium spots, like halowalker in DRL. I've never seen any documented tho mostly a few hours of sim time but not in the 100s. Will post a comment again here when i make that video. :) Love the channel btw, you got another sub. :)
I can’t wait to see the video of you going from sun to DRL champion in a few months! Really though velocidrone is very accurate in terms of feel so with 100 hours you should find it really easy to make the switch. I wanted to do 50 hours but the real drone kept calling me and I wanted to see if the sim was even worth it… and it is! I still use it now when I don’t have time to go outside and fly. But yes as soon as you drop that video I’ll be the first one watching it!
Heck yeah definitely hit the sim as much as you can and you will get more comfortable I spent about 3 hours in a sim then had a micro that I just thrashed rebuilt blew up rebuilt and wish I just spent more time in the sim because when I built a 6" I was so scared to crash it and that showed in my flying but definitely keep at it man nice video buddy 👍
Thanks! I wish the DJI goggles had a HDMI or DVI input so I could fly the sim with them on. But yeah I’m in the sim a lot especially when I finish work late or the weather is bad… I would say my real life flying has improved my sim flying too 😂
@@GarethDix I'm not sure the size of where you live but it's worth having a micro or whoop the iflight a75(caddx) is like £250 but you can fly it around your house which will be like your new sim, I'm going back to analog because all the drones are usually £100 cheaper and I'm a cheapskate
I didn’t realise you could get them that small with a vista unit. My place is big enough to fly a little drone around but in Switzerland we have a lot of restrictions on noise so it’s the only reason I haven’t tried with the cinewhoop already
Thanks… I figured it was expensive but if I really didn’t like it the gear would hold its value and I could have sold it on… but then I fell in love with FPV and my bank account doesn’t thank me for it 😂
Awesome stuff mate very well done :) Cheers from australia I'm 4 and a half months in , having a blast , spent probably as much time fixing the damn things as much as I have been flying them hahaha
I hear you! I have a few quads now and I’ve broken something on most of them every few flights. The cinewhoop I used to learn on in this video has held up so well… until this morning when I finally broke the motor mount after power looping into the floor 😂
Just stick with acro, relying on angle/horizon is a good way to learn bad habits! The only time I'd recommend a stability mode is indoor tiny whoops races, and if your looking to get footage, stability modes will absolutely ruin your shot!
@@GarethDix nah, your flying is way less smooth in angle because you are constantly 'fighting' your quad to keep it in the right position. Try it out, watch the video back, and you'll see exactly what I mean
I almost always fly in Acro mode today but if I want a really smooth crusisy flight, I go into Betaflight and you can change the parameters for Horizon mode to act more like Acro if you turn the strength way down and increase the angle to 90 degrees. This will still auto level but very slowly and only at near center stick. You can easily overpower the self-centering if you stay on the sticks. It's actually quite cool though still not as exhilarating as Acro. I too have the Cinerace20 (v2 Pro...analog) and love it.
I think I need to give it another go… maybe I’ll get used to it a little more. Did you set it up in beta flight so you can use a switch to change between the two? Thanks though let me see what I can do with the beta flight settings as this could make me completely change my mind on using angle
@@GarethDix For clarity and reference, I run my drones with the following setting in PID Tuning under Angle/Horizon: Angle Strength: 50 (Not used) Horizon Strength: 20 Horizon Transition: 20 Angle limit: 89 I do not use Angle Mode, only Horizon and Acro. I typically fly my loose Horizon mode when I am warming up to a new area but usually switch to Acro once comfortable.
I’m waiting for my firefly to arrive now… but you had a bad experience with them? Why what happened? They’ve been great helping with my dumb questions every 5 mins
@@GarethDix got a defective goggles, they said it was my fault. Got a defect in the elrs receiver, they said it was my fault again hahaha. Actually the customer service is ok when you talk to them, the technical support people are the problem
Ahhh tech support… makes sense… reminds me of an old Episode of the IT crowd where the tech guys were allowed to talk to people in the business and the whole building almost burned down 😂 I’ll keep that in mind though as I’m sure at some point I’m going to have to talk with them in the future!
In this video I’m using Velocidrone, but I’ve pretty much used most of them now. Lift off, I crashed and tryp are also worth looking at too! But velocidrone is still the most accurate with physics
I agree, I find acro way easier because you have full control and it's more predictable. I think it's better to learn acro as long as you learn on a simulator. If you learn with acro without the sim you're going to crash a lot
The talk of acro makes me think of one part of the hobby that I am not fond of, that of the 'acro snobbery' that I have come across in certain circles. I don't care how people fly, if they don't fly acro, it doesn't affect me. If they're having fun, awesome! I do think that we sometimes focus a bit too much on the "you need to learn to fly acro" thing so early on. Have fun, take your time, enjoy the hobby for what it is, people playing with toys.
I think it’s probably because you have that much control it’s like learning to fly without the stabilisers on a bike or learning to drive a manual gearbox. Some people find it easier to learn full control and then dial it back when needed others need that extra help to start and reduce it over time. For me I’m still struggling with angle/horizon but someone here in the comments gave me some settings to change on my quad to make that hopefully work a little easier
@@GarethDix Yes, agreed, I think it's a 'horses for courses' scenario, which was kind of my point regarding "to acro, or not to acro" (I think Shakespeare said that :) )
The simulator suprisingly worked, I gave it 15 hrs on the sim and went right into a 5 inch drone and had no problems. So I recommend guys getting into Fpv to practice on the sim first.
I recently got the DRL Simulator and have been flying freestyle in it. I am going to get my first fpv drone pretty soon and have watched many videos like yours saying that the simulator helps a lot. Thank you for a great video! I think I am going to go with the GEPRC Phantom toothpick freestyle.
Oh cool, the transition from sim to reality is actually fairly easy but you are just more conscious of crashing which ups the stakes a little. Just learn to land in the sim which is the one thing I forgot! The only other thing is just the set up in Betaflight but once you do this once it’s much easier to do it with any other quads you buy (and I guarantee you’ll get more - I now have a flywoo firefly and a GEPRC mk5) But record your first flight and upload it and I’ll come check it out!
This is one of my first flights I was able to record. I actually flew the weekend before just flying out in the open and getting use to controls, but I didn’t get that on video. ruclips.net/video/6A0L4XNiFL8/видео.html&feature=share
Good job! And boy will you be surprised when you try flying a non ducted quad! Sooo much easier and way more responsive than a whoop. And don’t get me wrong, whoops are great tools, but nowhere near as fun as a 5 inch
I can’t wait to try an open quad… probably not a 5inch yet 😂 But as soon as I do less crashing I’ll be getting a little micro drone just to see how it responds!
@@GarethDix Don't worry, you'll handle a 5-inch just fine. Just fly with low camera tilt in the beginning (makes you fly a bit slower) Crashing is just a part of it , but I'm willing to bet you'll actually crasch less with a 5-inch freestyle quad than the whoop. Micro quads (with a few exceptions) and whoops of all kinds generally flies and handles worse than a bit bigger quad.
Hey, I'm a 16 year old from Switzerland trying to get into FPV, any advice for me? Planning to buy a 4 inch quad, 4S and later on a fixed-wing FPV (nano goblin or flik by rctestflight)
Take the time in the simulator… you’ll want to get out there as soon as possible but it’s really worth it! When you first start flying try and fly as often as possible to get your confidence up. Fly for fun but focus on one thing each session. It can be frustrating at first with the learning all the technical parts along with the flying but honestly it’s worth all the pain! And do consider a tiny whoop I always thought they were toy like and not serious quads but I’ve been loving flying them around over the winter and they make even the smallest areas feel like a huge playground
I was using the little bastard to start with and was struggling with the power and as I had the Cinerace I wanted to try a micro cinewhoop so bought the micro class pack and started using the nano hawk as it’s a pusher (props underneath) and it changed my whole learning experience
Oh and the flight mode I was in acro but mainly because I didn’t know what horizon or angle mode was but they are easier to learn in… but I’m guessing harder to get into rate/acro mode afterwards
@@GarethDix I do fly, but only recently got back into it. I just finished my Masters in Unmanned Systems. I have numerous components and unbuilt aircraft. I'm thinking my electronics (new) are outdated. Thank you for the content !
Outdated or not they will still fly so worth keeping. The new digital systems are amazing though! If you could keep the batteries warm the footage you could get up there would be amazing!! “I tried FPV in the North Pole” that would be an instant RUclips success!
Yep, simulator is so f***ing important! I don't know why so many beginners don't believe that. I have spent around 20-30 hours on simulator befor going out with the real drone - mainly because of my controller arrived before my drone did. And I was as well too excited as you were and started with PS controller on sim because my proper RC controller was still on the way back then :D Thank you for showing your first steps with sim! Hopefully many beginners will see your video and will get the message before they destroy their quads during the first flight or worse hurt anybody :)
I think without the sim it would have taken so much longer to learn to fly and I definitely would have destroyed my quad or what ever I hit with it… at least now when I crash I manage to do it with control and pretty safely. I would recommend anyone to spend time in the sun first!
A year later I’m also happy I didn’t this… the initial pain of trying to get off the ground without losing control was worth it. I really struggle when trying to fly in angle or horizon mode still
DO NOT FLY IN ANGLE OR HORIZON MODE. Go straight into Acro if you want to learn FPV angle and horizon teach bad habits. You’re doing great. Keep it up.
I'm a year into the hobby and this is so true... I watch my brother struggling in the sim when I took him out of horizon mode and I'm glad I didn't start with that
I'm a beginner as well but not a total beginner. I recommend flying and crashing as much as possible. The more you fly the better you get the better you get the more you will want to fly.
The one thing that definitely doesn't feel easier is retrieving the quad after you crash... I would love for there to be a button where it would just make the quad reappear in front of me haha
So is this cinerace 20, a buy and fly? I'ver flown Mavics etc for a couple years, and I really want to get into FPV, but dont know anything about building myself, and where id even start with that. I have the DJI FPV, and am flying the sim a lot at mo in preparation for Manual mode, but I want a nice little FPV that wont die if (When) I crash. I was looking at a Nazgul Evoque? But this one looks intersting seeing it here. What is the process, did you just buy this and a couple batteries and controller? Cheers for the video, youve made it same not quite as out of my reach to get into FPV properly!
Yes if you just bind it to the DJI system and you’re pretty much good to go. I went into Betaflight to set up Turtle mode (so I can flip it back over after a crash) and my arm switches for the controller. It would be easier to set up using the DJI system fully but it doesn’t have the range of crossfire in the controller I have. If you have the small DJI controller (not the big one) I don’t think this is able to bind to one of the caddx vista units (like in the Cinerace and Evoque)… only the larger DJI air unit But in terms of what to buy I think it depends on what you’re after and how you want to fly. The cinerace is great for learning as it’s very stable and the way it’s made it can take hits really well. I’ve tested this a lot over the last few weeks and it’s still flying. I like it a lot for training but it doesn’t have huge amounts of power and isn’t as agile as my other drone (flywoo firefly) but then after a few crashes I’m now resoldering the motors back to the controller already. I don’t think you could go wrong with either, the Evoque looks like it would be closer to the feel of the dji FPV… but then would you want to fly the dji FPV after you’ve flown something like that is the question 😉
The V3 doesn’t work with anything other than the avata and avata 2 at the moment… we’re expecting an update to come later this year to allow it to work with the O3 air unit (cinerace 03 has this) but it’s unclear if it will work with the older DJI air units (ie the one in the cinerace 20). The tango 2 will work with the cinerace20 just as long as you have a crossfire receiver
I'm trying to use DRL to learn, but it feels like it drifts to the side agents it should not be drifting. Is the simulator accurate to real life? I keep hoping it will be more predictable IRL.
I’ve started playing around with DRL as my brother is using it to learn. Honestly the physics are a little weird and you can’t get a feel for the speed properly. But the tutorials are really nice I wish velocidrone, trryp or lift off did as good a job. Once you have got used to the controls it’s worth looking at velocidrone as the physics feel much closer to real life. The drifting might be caused by the calibration of your radio… recalibrate it and see if that fixes the issue. I had to recalibrate mine 3 times in DRL because I kept messing it up
My first four packs flying FPV IRL after 130 hours sim time: ruclips.net/video/CLNAw9dSiI8/видео.html (not edited because I cba) Please read the description, it's pretty waffley, but it has needed context, excuses and my conclusion on the sim time I put in before flying IRL. Since I uploaded it I've put in eight more packs and got my radio working with the sims. So I will be practicing more in them when I can't fly IRL, like now because it's gotten dark 😠 haha!
@@GarethDix I'm not going to update you every day, but I just uploaded my second day of flights and I think you'll find they're a bit different: ruclips.net/video/GFs5uAFAcYk/видео.html
I never touched a sim just got a tinyhawk to fly around in the house. Started on angle mode. 2 years later I’m ripping Bandos with a 5 inch in full acro. Can’t fly angle no more it’s fighting against you constantly
Yes that’s how I felt trying this in angle mode… it was like trying to walk a puppy that wanted to go somewhere else and kept fighting against me. I really want to fly around my apartment but in Switzerland noise is a real concern 🤦🏻♂️
My god it’s so addictive… I was supposed to be working on other RUclips videos but all I’ve been doing is flying or fixing every spare moment I have… my bank account is feeling it too 😂
this is also the reason I think I need to get into larger drones… I’m used to soldering but on these micro drones my sausage fingers aren’t delicate enough to make this tiny soldering easy 😂😂
The tiny whoop pack for velocidrone was pretty accurate feeling to this quad. I have a GEPRC mk5 now but if the rules weren’t changing here for 250g+ quads the roma would have been my next purchase
My exact drone wasn’t available in the simulator so I used something I thought would be similar and bought the tiny whoop pack for velocidrone. As it turns out it was fairly close to the real thing the difference being the throttle response was a little quicker on the real thing, but you get used to adjusting to that the more you fly different drones in the sim
@@GarethDix Thank you for the answer. I meant the car park track that you used in the video, but I found it 💪 you were right it’s challenging, have difficulties to manage my hight, I always bump either into the ceiling or onto the ground. I spent 4 hours yesterday trying. Getting better but not great just yet 😅
Honestly if you can fly that course you’ll find everything so much easier. Not sure if you have the tiny whoop pack but it’s worth trying as the larger/faster drones are really difficult in that right space. The alternative is to adjust the throttle curves in the set up so the acceleration isn’t so linear (meaning you can move the stick a little and the quad doesn’t shoot straight off at high speed) - it’s a good thing to learn for when you take a real quad out and need to tone it down in betaflight
OK. After 11hours and 34 mins I can fly a semi-decent 54 sec on this track without crash and this cark park track improved my skills tremendously. I would love to see more FPV content
😂😂😂 put ✍️ cinematic ✍️ music ✍️ over ✍️ SO commentary ✍️ In my next video I did a voice over… but actually you might be onto something there as a better option! 😂
Honestly figure 8’s took me awhile… I just did the circular tracks one way and then the other for a long time before I could make an 8 track look like I knew how to fly. Don’t get disheartened though, aparently 10 hours and then real flying like I did isn’t so normal. The thing that made it click for me was racing against my own ghost on a few stages. That way you aren’t left behind by other people but just competing against your own best lap. But if you need any help just let me know! The official velocidrone tutorials on RUclips are pretty dry but the info in them is worth it!
After losing/destroying a few drones covid hit. I put in 200 hours on DRL amd another 150 on velocidrone. My first time out at a race I was flying 16-17 second laps with a 533 tiny trainer. The 5in pilots were hitting 12-14 second laps. The race coordinator thought I was joking when I told him I had less than an hour of IRL flight time.
That’s awesome! If anyone needed proof that a sim is worth the effort this is it! I do wish I’d tried FPV earlier because I had a lot of hours in lockdown I could have been training on the sim!
Dude.. what.. I have been using liftoff and DRL with my TX16S and after about 20 hours I STILL can not barely turn, I flip/crash a ton, I can't figure out how to turn at all to get through a flag, etc. My kid on the other hand.. with about 4 hours is flipping around race tracks like its nothing. FML. I so badly want to know how to fly like the FPV pros! Doing instant turns, dives, orbits, etc.. How were you able to fly so slow in the sim? I have a low speed drone and it still seems like its 5x faster than what you are doing.
I’m using the velocidrone tiny whoop pack…they are so much slower and that changed everything for me. DRL must have something similar I’m sure. Not sure if this is possible in DRL but you can also reduce the power in the settings of your quad in velocidrone so you can make a 5” freestyle drone much slower if needed. I did spend the time running through the velocidrone training videos as painful as that was (I never use instructions) but it was really helpful. After a little while I was so focused on getting a better time that I started to chase my ghost drone and that stopped me thinking about my stick inputs and it started to happen automatically.
Lower the rates until it feels a bit more controllable, and try to copy the inputs of other pilots by watching replays of top runs. Also lower the camera tilt to slow it down. 20 hours is really not a lot, keep trying, you'll get there. I have about 1000 hours IRL and in the sim combined and I'm still learning.
Leave a link to your first FPV experience here and I'll come check out your videos

Here's an early one from me: ruclips.net/video/e8oGemSwrvI/видео.html
I bought a cheap pair of Ev100.. no way to record .. (for now)
Oh no!! At least film your reaction to the first flight! It’ll be worth it just for you to look back on in a few years
I've been practicing for about a year now after putting 30 or so hours into the Liftoff simulator.
Look for something called “rates” the big number (usually starts at 670) is the amount of degrees the quad will move on that axis per second, if you lower it to 500 it won’t spin as much
Learning FPV in angle or horizon teaches bad habits. Learning in acro is the way to go. Good work
Thank you! It’s been months and I still can’t fly in angle or horizon so I guess it’s just not for me 😂
Great video mate, you've provided me with enough hope to keep at it with the simulator, nicely done on flying acro first as well! 😂
The thing i love most about this hobby though ive yet to partake, is that its quite simply good honest fun for all ages.
Thank you! It was that first take off with the props the wrong way that got me 😂
As much as I thought by that first flight I’m going to be doing some crazy stuff… as soon as I got the goggles on and took off for real it’s such a rush that you forget everything you intended on doing 😂
If you film that first flight and upload it let me know and I’ll come check it out! Good luck!
An actually honest first FPV flight video! Bravo!
As much we all think we’re gonna fly like Mr Steele as soon as we fly for real it’s also important to show the reality of getting excited that it even takes off 😂
Anyone doubting the validity of learning on a sim: depending on the quad in question, just 10 hours is probably over 200 battery packs.
That’s actually a really good point I hadn’t thought of it that way!
And even though I’m flying a read quad now Im still on the sim a lot especially when the weather is bad
It's always fun to watch peoples expressions for the first time flying FPV.
I haven't flown for a few years now but thinking about doing it again.
That was me trying to keep it together… inside I wanted to jump around screaming 😂😂
But maybe you’ll get that feeling of the first flight again if you haven’t done it for awhile… and the digital systems make the goggle view amazing!
I was impressed by your instant skill even after flying a sim - good job! Some beginners learn on angle mode but acro is more capable.
Wow thank you! I feel like the pain I went through learning on acro was worth it then!
Same. Sim got me to the point where i was doing acro and being confident with it. Dont skip the sim!
Wise words!
When I was learning, you just had to buy one, pray, smash it up, fix it, curse your friend who told you to get into FPV, and do it all again.
😂😂😂 exactly why I thought nope before
Me🤡
😂😂😂
I spent hours learning about failsafes before I flew for the first time… also part of the reason I flew in that field just in case I had a fly away… I’ve flown that drone for hours now and so far so good but that was my biggest panic getting started because you don’t get to practice that in sim 😂
But sounds like I need to check out your channel if you’ve been doing this for 3 years!
Did you start with FrSky?
I have a bat safe box and spent a lot of time down the YoiTube rabbit hole of LiPo safety and storage 😂
In Switzerland the drone laws here are pretty simple but have been looking into the certification for larger >4kg drones as I think there’s probably a lot I could learn from it too
It's always fun to see someone on their first flight. :)
The thought of breaking or losing your quad is so much more pressure 😂
This little cineracer has taken so many hits over the last few months and has continued working like new.
Welcome to the hobby. Your excitement just reminds me of my first flight.
I can’t wait to look back on this in the future and remember this!
Brilliant. I am 2 hours into velocidrone. Started on angled mode now switched full acro mode. 👏👏
how are you finding the difference now you’re in acro mode? I spent a good hour not being able to even take off and just move 😂
Hahaha after this video I actually considered creating a whole new channel for FPV… no one told me how addictive it was going to be (largely the reason I haven’t made any videos for a few months because I’m always flying)
But yes I have a 1.5” micro that I bought to fly around the house (although it’s way too powerful) and I also have a 5” now as well because I wanted to see what it’s like before the rules change here in 2024.
Flying in reality is very similar except there’s the added element of if you crash badly or lose it by getting stuck in a tree it’s going to cost money 😂
Also you’ll find that flying far away and then crashing means a lot of walking to get the drone… so set up turtle mode (JB has a video on that)
Hi, one tips.
I tried flying LoS after someone else told me the same and I flew off into a tree 😂😂 I weirdly find it much easier with the goggles although would like to get better at LoS flying too
@@GarethDix keep flyng, hehehe, enjoy ^^
Oh, you seem to have a nice flieger type watch! Big fan of those.
Seems like more people are noticing the watch and the strap recently 😂
But yeah I love a Flieger I have way too many of them 😂
Love this video. Just started on the sim… 20mins and struggling… this gives me hope! Ta
Honestly the first part is a huge struggle but then it will all click. It’s fairly dry but it’s worth going through the velocidrone training videos from the beginning, I thought I could do it without them but it helps make the basic controls make sense!
Because they’re RUclips videos you don’t even need velocidrone to learn from them 😉
But post me a link to your first real flight when you get there, I’d love to see how it goes!
Thanks Gareth! Will do!!
Good luck with the flight and if there any help you need just let me know
Acro is easier to learn than the others. The sim definitely helps. Good job brother
Thanks man! Really appreciate it!
Good you learnt acro straight away. I had a difficult time transitioning to acro from angle.
I’ve been attempting angle mode and find it so much harder now so it’s like I have the opposite problem!
Great job! Don't worry about landing, That's the hardest FPV trick of them all!
That was great fun! Welcome to the hobby. Prepare to become hopelessly addicted 😊 I'll drop a link to my first flights shortly.
I’m already addicted 😂😂 but yes drop the link in here would love to check it out!
Wait til you see what I can do with it now 😂😂
i have been trying to find a video like this for a while. Thank you
It’s amazing you said that because earlier today I was just saying I’m getting a lot of interference on the VTX but assumed it was where I was standing… I’ll check that out this evening
you can try to replace the vtx antenna with the new one, before replacing the vista system completely
I think I have a spare so let’s see if that works
@@GarethDix and also try to use the channel 3 instead other channel on your DJI goggle, that's because channel 3 is not used by any standard 5G router or access point that can cause signal interference problems
@@BimoWicaksono Thank you so much for the tips!! I will switch over to channel 3 and see if that changes anything before I start pulling things apart!
@TheWaddler I’m a gamer too and thought I’d thumb… but for some reason I’m a hybrid pincher!
Check out the uncrashed sim. I’m not a beginner but it did make me fly way better.
I’m not sure my max will run it as I heard it requires a pretty powrful computer but it really does look amazing… saw someone practicing following a racetrack on that earlier which looked awesome
Stick time is the key, even in a sim. When you fly a five inch, it is going to boggle your mind. Good job!
I definitely need to find somewhere with a lot of space before I try a 5inch… I think depending on the weight I might also need to have insurance and certifications etc
@@GarethDix biggest secret in FPV, five inch is soooo easy to fly compared to a micro. You'll see...
Are there sub 250g 5inch quads? I just assumed they’re all 350-500g.
@@GarethDix yah, ummagawd makes one. Lighter is definitely better, I have a 3.5 inch that come at 243ish grams with 525 mAh 4S.
You could see from my early simulator attempts that it probably wouldn’t have ended well 😂
I found the tiny whoops so much easier in the simulator than the 5inch quads but maybe I should give this a go again as I feel like the real life flying has improved my sim flying too!
I find it really hard to fly LoS the few times I’ve done it the drone was bouncing around all over the place 😂
But I understand what you meant about the sim… I really didn’t want to sit there in front of the screen playing a game I wanted to fly for real… but I had to wait for 3 weeks for the drone to arrive anyway so I figured I might as well.
That’s good to know, I just saw they released a new one so I’m waiting for some of the reviews of it as I could do with an O3 version of a cinewhoop.
Well done. Learning in the sim and acro is the way to go.
But you will have to learn to build.
Eventually you will break it.
Enjoy the fpv adventure.
I got a second drone and broke it on the 5th pack… so im already learning how to fix it now 😂😂
But still loving every minute of it
Got less < 30h in sim, i feel very confident that i could fly very well if i got the chance.
I’m eyeing up a 5inch now but need to keep it under 250g… as soon as I get it though I’m going to be filming that flight as it looks like so much fun!
Great video! Explorer LR 4 HD DJI O3 Sub250 4K/1080P Micro Long Range…. That one!! Less than 250g and with gps but its less than 5in… but you can fly anywhere
A couple of people mentioned the explorer 4, I can imagine it’s good for cruising but how would it do for freestyle (and crashing… a lot)
Just remember to practice landing in the sim… and also remember if you crash you have to go get it 😂😂
Seriously though would love to see what your first flight is like!
Dang that's a nice setup for your first time.
Thanks… I figured it was expensive but if I really didn’t like it the gear would hold its value and I could have sold it on… but then I fell in love with FPV and my bank account doesn’t thank me for it 😂
Awesome stuff mate very well done :)
Cheers from australia
I'm 4 and a half months in , having a blast , spent probably as much time fixing the damn things as much as I have been flying them hahaha
I hear you! I have a few quads now and I’ve broken something on most of them every few flights. The cinewhoop I used to learn on in this video has held up so well… until this morning when I finally broke the motor mount after power looping into the floor 😂
Sir, well done, and welcome to the club 🤓😎
Thank you! I wish someone had told me that it would end up consuming my whole life before I started though
Just stick with acro, relying on angle/horizon is a good way to learn bad habits! The only time I'd recommend a stability mode is indoor tiny whoops races, and if your looking to get footage, stability modes will absolutely ruin your shot!
That’s good advice! I assumed everyone that was using it for cinematic shots was doing it in angle/horizon mode
@@GarethDix nah, your flying is way less smooth in angle because you are constantly 'fighting' your quad to keep it in the right position. Try it out, watch the video back, and you'll see exactly what I mean
Good to know I thought it was just my flying in that mode 😂😂 it felt like I was driving a car really badly
Good job! welcome to FPV
Thank you for the warm welcome!! It’s so much fun!
@@GarethDix For clarity and reference, I run my drones with the following setting in PID Tuning under Angle/Horizon:
Angle Strength: 50 (Not used)
Horizon Strength: 20
Horizon Transition: 20
Angle limit: 89
I do not use Angle Mode, only Horizon and Acro. I typically fly my loose Horizon mode when I am warming up to a new area but usually switch to Acro once comfortable.
Awesome thank you! And as you have a cinerace as well let’s see how it works with the heavier caddix vista unit
I do love ur watch strap ❤️
I think you’re the first to notice it 😉
Potato jet also made me buy the flywoo firefly haha. I just got a bad exerience with flywoo customer support
Ahhh tech support… makes sense… reminds me of an old Episode of the IT crowd where the tech guys were allowed to talk to people in the business and the whole building almost burned down 😂
I’ll keep that in mind though as I’m sure at some point I’m going to have to talk with them in the future!
Great vid. Thanks. What simulator did you use on apple?
In this video I’m using Velocidrone, but I’ve pretty much used most of them now. Lift off, I crashed and tryp are also worth looking at too! But velocidrone is still the most accurate with physics
I agree, I find acro way easier because you have full control and it's more predictable. I think it's better to learn acro as long as you learn on a simulator. If you learn with acro without the sim you're going to crash a lot
My first few hours on a sim was just a lot of crashing in acro… I’m so glad that it wasn’t a real quad 😂
Glad to hear it worked on a 5inch as well, I’m back on the sim waiting for the weather to get better so I can take my new 5inch out for the first time
@@GarethDix good luck man👍
I recently got the DRL Simulator and have been flying freestyle in it.
The only other thing is just the set up in Betaflight but once you do this once it’s much easier to do it with any other quads you buy (and I guarantee you’ll get more - I now have a flywoo firefly and a GEPRC mk5)
But record your first flight and upload it and I’ll come check it out!
This is one of my first flights I was able to record. I actually flew the weekend before just flying out in the open and getting use to controls, but I didn’t get that on video.
ruclips.net/video/6A0L4XNiFL8/видео.html&feature=share
Awesome job! I subbed and can’t wait to see what you do next!
Nice, you motivated me to start my self
It’s a lot of fun! And part of the reason I haven’t uploaded as many videos recently… I’m so busy flying now 😂
Good job! And boy will you be surprised when you try flying a non ducted quad! Sooo much easier and way more responsive than a whoop. And don’t get me wrong, whoops are great tools, but nowhere near as fun as a 5 inch
I can’t wait to try an open quad… probably not a 5inch yet 😂
But as soon as I do less crashing I’ll be getting a little micro drone just to see how it responds!
The biggest issue I’m finding with this whoop is that I can’t get the camera angle high enough to let me go faster 😂
I highly recommend Brodie Reed for more advice on fpv to get better
I think Brodie and I started around the same time, love his content!
It's easiest to learn in acro. Harder to break yourself from the auto leveling of angle and horizon. Nice job
Even almost two years later I struggle with horizon and angle… acro all the way!
What model did you use on velocidrone? And what flight mode? Nice video!
Man badass video 👏🏽👏🏽
Thank you! 🙏🏻
Congrats from North Pole, AK!
This is probably the most amazing comment ever! How did I reach the North Pole with a video?!! And do you fly FPV up there?
@@GarethDix I do fly, but only recently got back into it. I just finished my Masters in Unmanned Systems.
I have numerous components and unbuilt aircraft. I'm thinking my electronics (new) are outdated.
Thank you for the content !
Outdated or not they will still fly so worth keeping. The new digital systems are amazing though!
If you could keep the batteries warm the footage you could get up there would be amazing!! “I tried FPV in the North Pole” that would be an instant RUclips success!
Great job man.
Thank you! 🙏🏻
Great job!
Thank you 🙏🏻☺️
great hobby glad to seeing enjoy it wait until you get yo
Thank YOU for this video Really appreciate it
Does this mean you’re going to try flying? 😉
Yep, simulator is so f***ing important! I don't know why so many beginners don't believe that. I have spent around 20-30 hours on simulator befor going out with the real drone - mainly because of my controller arrived before my drone did. And I was as well too excited as you were and started with PS controller on sim because my proper RC controller was still on the way back then :D
Thank you for showing your first steps with sim!
Good Remotecontrol will help a lot even in Sim App
It really does… I’ve recommended to a lot of people to not use a PlayStation controller to begin with
outstanding . . . well done . . . thumbs up 👍🙏💯
Thank you so much!
I flew acro first for ages not knowing what it even was, and actually I'm glad I did now.
I watch my brother struggling in the sim when I took him out of horizon mode and I'm glad I didn't start with that
Very cool man
Thank you 🙏🏻
Hi. What drone did you fly in Velocidrone? I'd be curious what's the closest to the Cinerace
I was using the tiny hawk, the Cinerace has a more power and is a lot more stable but it’s pretty close
I'm a beginner as well but not a total beginner. I recommend flying and crashing as much as possible. The more you fly the better you get the better you get the more you will want to fly.
This is solid advice… and 1.5 years later I still crash a lot every time I go flying (repairs are just part of the fun now)
I had a similar experience after spending some time on lift-off, the real drone even felt easier to fly than the simulator
If you have the small DJI controller (not the big one) I don’t think this is able to bind to one of the caddx vista units (like in the Cinerace and Evoque)… only the larger DJI air unit
But in terms of what to buy I think it depends on what you’re after and how you want to fly.
Hi all! Please tell me if the dji goggles v3 glasses are suitable for the flywoo cinerace 20 fpv drone, tango 2 new version remote control?
The V3 doesn’t work with anything other than the avata and avata 2 at the moment… we’re expecting an update to come later this year to allow it to work with the O3 air unit (cinerace 03 has this) but it’s unclear if it will work with the older DJI air units (ie the one in the cinerace 20).
The tango 2 will work with the cinerace20 just as long as you have a crossfire receiver
Won't be long until you get a 5" freestyler. Welcome to the hobby.
Thanks and I already have my eyes on a 5” just gotta find a place nearby big enough for me to fly it 😉
6:15 Accurate and honest AF
😂😂😂 2 years later and I still can’t land properly… I just disarm when I’m close
I had to recalibrate mine 3 times in DRL because I kept messing it up
On the last simulator that you’re talking about which was the app
My first four packs flying FPV IRL after 130 hours sim time: ruclips.net/video/CLNAw9dSiI8/видео.html (not edited because I cba)
Please read the description, it's pretty waffley, but it has needed context, excuses and my conclusion on the sim time I put in before flying IRL. Since I uploaded it I've put in eight more packs and got my radio working with the sims. So I will be practicing more in them when I can't fly IRL, like now because it's gotten dark 😠 haha!
Awesome I’ll check it out… the first flight never goes as expected so don’t worry no one will judge!
@@GarethDix Haha, still, I thought it'd go a little better than that. Once I realised what air mode was, landing went a little better 😅
@TheWaddler yeah I saw the landing and thought that’s smoother than how I land now 3 years later 😂😂
@@GarethDix I'm not going to update you every day, but I just uploaded my second day of flights and I think you'll find they're a bit different: ruclips.net/video/GFs5uAFAcYk/видео.html
cool mate.its alot of fun isnt it.im from cornwall, ive been flying fpv for about a year now.couple of videos up on my profile if u fancy a look.
Oh cool, flying around cornwall must be a lot of fun. I’ll check out your stuff!
I really want to fly around my apartment but in Switzerland noise is a real concern 🤦🏻♂️
are you near Basel by any chance? i recognized the two towers in the background
Yes I live in Basel, don’t let the accent fool you 😉
@@GarethDix yes i thought so too, your english sounds really native (australian?)
London 😂😂 although I get Australian a lot even in my hometown now 😂
@@GarethDix oh, well london and australia have really similar accents, bur generally speaking british is separable from australian
That’s quite funny as I don’t think any Londoner or Aussie would say they’re similar at all 😂😂
welcome to the hobby?addiction?lifestyle? full acro is the way to go 100% dueces
My god it’s so addictive… I was supposed to be working on other RUclips videos but all I’ve been doing is flying or fixing every spare moment I have… my bank account is feeling it too 😂
@@GarethDix but it's worth every penny! Enjoy
It really is! 😂
Yeah it's good fun init I'm in my second year now with a 5" 6s drone.
I love it… but it’s now taking up most of my spare time either learning fixing or flying 😂
@@GarethDix haha yeah it's not to bad its just the soldering can be tricky if not used to it but like most things more you do it the easier it gets
this is also the reason I think I need to get into larger drones… I’m used to soldering but on these micro drones my sausage fingers aren’t delicate enough to make this tiny soldering easy 😂😂
Try the Roma F35 after a sims way better feel
The tiny whoop pack for velocidrone was pretty accurate feeling to this quad. I have a GEPRC mk5 now but if the rules weren’t changing here for 250g+ quads the roma would have been my next purchase
nice.
did u fly the same drone in the simulator ?
My exact drone wasn’t available in the simulator so I used something I thought would be similar and bought the tiny whoop pack for velocidrone. As it turns out it was fairly close to the real thing the difference being the throttle response was a little quicker on the real thing, but you get used to adjusting to that the more you fly different drones in the sim
Great progress! :) I am at my 6th hour. Could someone let me know what the name of the car track is please ? Thank you in advance :)
The one I used in the video or the car racetrack in velocidrone?
I’ve been working on it, if there’s anything specific you want to see let me know
Everyone should have their SO be their color commentator, they are always the realist! LOL
😂😂😂 I’ve been putting together my next video where I’m flying a 5inch… and I’m trying to edit out her saying “it’s too loud” “don’t go too far” 😂😂😂
@@GarethDix TBH it makes the vids hilarious and relatable! OR put some cinematic music over it... haha!
😂😂😂 put ✍️ cinematic ✍️ music ✍️ over ✍️ SO commentary ✍️
In my next video I did a voice over… but actually you might be onto something there as a better option! 😂
Man! I’m on my 5 hours of a simulator and cannot make a simple 8 shape turns :(
Honestly figure 8’s took me awhile… I just did the circular tracks one way and then the other for a long time before I could make an 8 track look like I knew how to fly.
@@DaveyFPV Honestly I am not sure how to do any of that. :D. I'll learn though. Thanks.
