radiomaster boxer is the absolute GOAT. High quality hall gimbals, an extremely powerful 1W elrs broadcasting unit, just enough screen, and fair price tag. the internals are all jst connectors and really well labeled, if it needs repairs or upgrades in the future it is really easy to work on. the pocket is the budget best / perfect starter.
Great criteria thoughts Brodie! I love my RadioMaster Pocket! Definitely felt like an upgrade from my ELRS modded Jumper T-Lite. So portable and lightweight! The Boxer with AGO1 gimbals looks like the next upgrade when I get into Long Range quads.
I've bought a TX12 after a lot of research in late 2022. There was no RM Pocket or Boxer. I agree that the Pocket would be the best for beginners and now I have a Boxer and love it. Great video!
I bought the Radiomaster Zorro, did the AG01 mini gimbal upgrade ( you can have even smoother Mids, and a smoother throttle ) and after a 18650 cell upgrade and a lot of remolding internal plastic, the controller is now perfect
I have been using a Frsky X18S on all my quads for the last two years and it has been amazing. It ticks all the boxes you mentioned but instead of using EdgeTX it uses Ethos as an operating system wich is so much more intuitive and easy to use. I think some of the newer radio's from Frsky are a great choice for FPV and are often overlooked in this category. The X18 and the X14 for example are reasonably priced, have great ergonomics and the build quality is better then any Radiomaster product in my opinion.

Love this list, but for some radios (especially DJI) I feel it would be super useful to introduce another rule: Customizability/Good OS; I can not overstate just how big of a difference it is going from a radio with no OS (BFPV/DJI controllers) to a radio like the Pocket, Boxer, or TX16S with a full fledged OS.
I was going to purchase a rm pocket today. You came with the right topic at the perfect time thank you very< much (I will get the pocket, train in sim then buy the mobula6 and the betafpv vr03 goggles and start flying indoors because of regulations.) realy like your uploads keep it up.

I'm just starting with drones and really enjoyed this video. You made me see why i probably need 2 controllers in the future. 1 Big with all the bells and whistles, 1 small that you can easy drop in a backpack. One thing i'm wondering Why did you leave firmware like edgetx and elrs module support out of the question? It was a long way to find out this is everything my radio needs.
I bought a TX16S to fly planes, it's great and has plenty of buttons and switches to control all aspects of my planes. I'm 2m tall and have very big hands so the size is perfect. I bought the pocket recently to fly FPV, because it's also great and easier to use when you have goggles on
I'm considering the Radiomaster Pocket with Uncrashed to start learning about acro/racing fpv. Will this setup work? Also, the $14 for Uncrashed, is that a one time fee? Any other costs I should be aware of?
One of the best purchases I ever made was the RadioMaster Pocket. Ever since I got it, I have hardly ever used my much more expensive RadioMaster TX16S anymore. And even when I do, the TX16S feels heavy and clumsy now. Also I twice broken the gimbals on the TX16S and each time the expense to get a new gymbal was more that what I paid for the brand new RM Pocket.
It's the same for me! Can't recommend it enough. The only slight disadvantage was using the button for arming, since disarming took longer initially, but by inverting the button you can disarm just as fast as with a switch.
For me, the Boxer doesn't have a real arm switch, the Jumper t20s is my prefered compact choise. And the TX16S fits me best with good area for my hands and a real display
Nice content. Enjoyed and learned. As hobby electronics view, I think the seperate USB-C ports makes for a 'safer' project. These batteries can be dangerous and giving them their own charging track allows for beefier protection simplier than the cost of the port. It meets a price point with a better quality result. Maybe? :)
I upgraded my Boxer to a Boxer Max in part due to this review. The AG01 gimbals are really nice and the rest of the bling really dress it up too. Not required obviously, but it's a pretty nice upgrade.
Hey can you do a fpv setup (ie drone + goggles) at a few price points video pls? I have seen one from another youtuber but its quite old and as I am trying to get into FPV it would be really useful :)
I've used the FrSky Taranis X9D+ since 2017. I have a RM boxer as a backup but im just to used to the X9D and I feel like its not holding me back in any way
It is very good and comfortable, the only drawback is the low-capacity battery. This can be changed by converting Zorro to 18650 batteries, but it's a bit troublesome. Personally, I like this controller and I also have a Pocket, Boxer and previously a Tx16
Good comparison, and I understand including the Futaba to make the point of more $ doesn't mean better but you really missed the target not including the jumpers in the comparison.
I feel like the size should be considered a minus, the bigger the controller the heavier and less portable it is, and less likely you are to actually bring and use it day to day. Strange that there isn't anything ultra minimalistic and lightweight or foldable in some way, only focusing on having decent sized gimbals.

It depends from person to person, you can call it a controller
