Thanks man! I’m still surprised after a couple of months nothing has exploded or disintegrated and it’s still flying strong! Definitely a proud moment!
After building 5 FPV drones since April, I can honestly say that building an fpv drone is the most rewarding pain-in-the-balls that I've ever experienced!
I’ve been building a new quad for the last couple of weeks and after figuring out how to fit everything in and replacing some of the parts… I’m at 255g gaaaahhhhhh!
@@MysteryD yeah I'm up to 24 now. All for myself though. I've pretty much got every drone I could want or need for any situation at this point so I've kind of slowed down on the building. All of them still fly! I wish I could find a way to build drones for other people and it actually be profitable, because I do enjoy building I just don't really need any more drones for myself.
Or not in my case when I first plugged it in 😂 but yes as soon as those beautiful tones filled their air instead of magic smoke… it was the best feeling!
I really enjoy how you don't pretend to be an expert in FPV or building, or drones. Just a dude who's getting into it. Trust me it only gets more fun. I build as a service... have done over 100 in the last few years.
Since building this one I got hooked on it and have built way too many to use now. I’m still not an expert but I like figuring out how to make it all work as no Sub250g build is completely straight forward
MurdersFPV is a dope individual he did the motor upgrade on my 1st avata and the 3.5 conversion on my 2nd avata. But this quadmula I may need to purchase myself. Great review
Yes once you build a drone all you want to do is build another. I just finished a 7 inch as my first and when it flew as it should it became my favourite!
Awww is that feeling of building a flying machine ❤❤❤ I also bought a bnf a speedybee V5 but I needed something to do when I couldn't go flying so I decided to build another 5 inch this time a volador. Now I need something to fly around the back yard and a 3 in seems like the perfect candidate.
Hahaha… my gf who was holding the camera at the time has never let me forget I said that 😂😂 And yeah as soon as the weather is bad now and I can’t fly I’m like “do I go on the sim, or do I start a new build?” So you have two 5inches so it’s worth getting a little 3inch as they’re also really quiet in comparison
Be careful Gareth, as my wife can attest, building quads can be very, very addictive......and expensive! Nice job on your 1st build from what I could see btw.
Hahaha that’s so true… my gf knowing how bad I am at DIY figured I’d do this once and never again… but now I’ve taken over quite a bit of the apartment with parts for new builds 😂😂 And yes I thought building was supposed to be cheaper… that’s a lie 😂
That’s a great way of doing it… I’ve done so many repairs to my little quads that this was nowhere near as hard as I thought it would be… the tiny hawk is a lot of fun too!
l enjoyed your video immensely. I have been pondering about building my own quad and you have inspired me to finally give it a go! Still very nervous about the soldering aspect of the build but like you, do a bunch of practicing and it should all work out, right?! Cheers and thanks again!
Yeah I practiced loads before doing it for real. On this stack the soldering was fairly easy. Some of the AIO’s I’ve used in builds since then have been so much more difficult. But really get a solder sucker and some solder wick as well and if it goes wrong you can always remove the solder and try again
I knew it,ive built my first quad.It was eachine tyro 69 in analog. My friend told me to build, and ive enjojed this process a lot.But i got bad news, this building thing does not stop actually im buildin more bcs after 10 quads ur faster :)
Honestly my apartment is now full of parts for different builds. I never thought I’d enjoy building as much as I enjoy flying so I can relate! I’ll tell my gf after 10 I’m faster (hopefully she won’t notice I have 15 already)
I am ahead of you but comparable. Taking the same journey to experience what suits me the best. In order: Mini3pro...Avata...Betafpv Cetus...Nazgul Evoque 5d...siren f3s...volador 5x... and ordered a pavo pico o3 sub 100g just yesterday. So far I enjoy the volador over the siren because of my anxiety to lose the light weight siren some where up in trees during a dive between those. Those 800g will definitely come down. But yes. There is more than 5 inch and it looks like you just took off... into that money sink. 😂 enjoy it. Oh in case you live at leaset remotely around zürich, there is a drone club I recently stumbled up on youtube.
The siren F3 is surprisingly good going through trees (if you’re diving) I think because it has a short wingspan and small props. At least I haven’t got it stuck yet and I’ve had some close calls 😂 I didn’t realise there were places that you could even fly in Zurich so I’ll take a look and the group as well as there isn’t much in Basel
Lift off and cines then step up to a freestyle I rock the foxwhoop 25 and my cine30 best of all worlds keep shredding brother I'm at almost 80 hours on lift off and I've been flying quads for over 12 years nothing like FPV big learning curve but ounce you get it you got it and will experience things you will never imagine..
I’m loving the journey so far… it’s one of those hobbies that the more you know you know, the more you know you don’t know and there’s always something new to learn!
I've bought two 5" BNFs, and countless BNF tinywhoops. But I've built 50+ fpv drones (5" or greater). As much as I like flying, I think I may like building them more. Then again, I did build a metric ton of models when I was a kid, so...
I never thought I’d enjoy building them as much as I have… on my later build as much as I planned this out, I’m having issues fitting everything in, but enjoying the problem solving process and figuring it out.
I do love that all these little whoops are coming out with the O3. I might have to get one for the winter to fly around indoors as they look so much fun
AOS 3.5 EVO is a pretty cool frame in this category. I think iFlight makes a BNF, although I built my own: AOS 3.5 EVO, Flywoo Goku GN745 AIO, Happymodel EP1, T-Motor P1604 2850KV, DJI O3, Tattu 6S 550mAh, Avan Scimitar 3528-3. She floats like a dragonfly and blips like a hornet!
I think the AOS 3.5 EVO BNF is going to come up a lot in the comments and if there's enough people asking for a comparison with it I'll try and get hold of one (I think they're all on pre-order here). But that might have to be a future frame build too. Ironically your build is identical to how I'm building the Grinderino at the moment except with a crossfire receiver (and obviously the frame). Does that 550 6s lipo still keep it under 250g?
I've bought BNF and built DIY, I tend to agree that building brings it's own pleasure that a BNF can't (it's also way easier than first anticipated), having said that I bought a BNF recently to replace a lost (BNF) quad just because time was an issue - My best tips for building... 1. Get a nice big clear workbench/desk/table to work on. 2. Do a dummy fit to work out where everything needs to go. 3. Buy a smoke stopper
I like the fact that when I look at a BNF now I think... what could I change to make it work for how I fly... where as before I spent more time trying to figure out if I like it or not. Those 3 points are definitely great tips... especially number 2... nothing worse than putting it all together and realising it doesn't fit in the frame!
Although not as aggressive as your build. The Emax Babyhawk II (or 03 now) it is recognized for being incredibly smooth and well tuned. I have to admit that of all my 10 quads I still get surprised over how smooth and good it flies. And 3.5" is really good for sub 250. Look at some reviews on it from a few years back, or the recent of the 03 version.
This was mentioned so much in the comments of my last video and I think if I can get hold of one here I might have to add it to the list. The only things stopping me from getting one before was no O3 (which they now have) and the arms aren’t replaceable. But from the reviews it looks like it can take a beating. It would be interesting to see how it compares to the quadmula given it’s 3.5inch as well 🤔
@@GarethDix - I'm generally not a fan of the AIO boards but the I'd second the BBHK II being an amazing quad for feel compared to a 5 inch. That was my default next in between quad but at this point in the game I am insisting on a camera forward build to get the props out of frame. (don't know if the BBHK meets that with O3). But if YOU buy it and tell us...... haha. I just subbed to find out.
I might have to do a cinewhoop version of this test too in the future. I’m pretty sure the defender is not going to have the same feel as a 5inch freestyle quad because of those ducts and pusher configuration
Trying to figure my first build and EXACT easy “budget” parts is tough for 2.5”. Anyone want to hit the kiid with a good startup list to go with frame. Id be blessed and grateful. Thx! Super stoked!
I can’t wait there’s so many step by step videos but the hard part is finding the right long range parts to go with frame and build. I’m a cruiser light tricks guy. I know I’m in it for beautiful long flights. Like a Bee.
I’ve been looking at doing a budget build but still looking at options. From memory MoeFPV and TargetFPV used to do a lot of toothpick builds so I’m sure there’s a 2.5inch in there somewhere. TorontoFPV has a new frame called the whisper coming so I’m sure he’ll do a video on a 2.5in build if you ask nicely
You made awesome videos already. It is very exciting to see the process of how a sub 250 g drone is created. I have subscribed and am looking forward to watching videos from you! Very good research to learn more about the sub 250g topic! (and it's pretty entertaining as well)
Sub250g has improved so much… I’m in the process of building the 3.5inch version of this at the moment and we’ll see if that replaces this one as my favourite
I wasn’t going to as there will be a lot of trial and error to try and get under 250g but I’m sure I can film the build and cut it down so it’s not 2 hours long. I can even include any of the mistakes or things I had to rethink so people aren’t making the same mistakes
So I would watch the 2 hours :D But a sort of time lapse with the pitfalls and hurdles of building is more than I was hoping for! I'm really looking forward to the video now.
such a cool build, im building my first 5inch at the moment. im waiting for my vtx and elrs receiver from banggood.. and im waiting and im waiting and waiting.. i hope they dont move the shipping day again.. im thinking of building a 3inch like u too, but how much did it cost for you will all the shipping etc?
Yeah shipping parts from the far east can take long long time… the parts for my next build are all here after 4 weeks of waiting. But where I can I either buy from Switzerland or neighbouring countries (which still has import duty but it’s much faster). I really hoped this question hadn’t come up because I really don’t want to calculate how much it cost 😂😂 but let’s just say it would have been cheaper to buy a very popular 5inch including shipping and import duty 😂 That said a lot of the parts that I couldn’t get when I started this build are now back in stock and I’ve found other places in europe that sell the batteries and motors which will cut down on the costs a little
I didn’t for this one as I wanted to make sure MurdersFPV who did the original build got the credit and anything from the affiliate links for it… but I used the same components in my full build video recently of the 3.5 inch ruclips.net/video/lPGT-tZh2Hw/видео.htmlsi=w3zRSie8dUxYCA-l The only difference is the O3 air unit lite and I’m using the 3.5inch version of the frame (it’s the same just longer arms)
@Braincho I’ve never Bought one from DJI directly, pretty much any FPV store will have them too. Depending on where you’re based the independent stores sometimes work out cheaper
I tried to fix my cinelog20, after a motor burnout. I've fried the fc aio somehow, 2 times... Buying a set of 4 motors and 2 boards killed my "fun" in building so i've just bought a second Cine20 I've got a MOZ7 in my line of sight to be able to film different things, and i'm still on the fence between builing a 7" LR or just buying one...Trying to fix the cine20 kinda killed the willingness to build
That’s pretty crazy the cinelog20 was my first quad and almost two years later all I’ve done is replaced props and one of the ducts so you must have really been pushing it! On my Flywoo firefly I’ve had to replace two motors and that was fiddly… but if you’re going with a 7inch it is a lot easier to build because of the size and space you’ll have… that said in order to do a build you have to really want it… it’s not typically cheaper but it is rewarding! If the moz7 gives you everything you want for now I would just get it BNF and save yourself the pain… you can always start building something in the background whilst you’re flying another quad because the first build never goes to plan and will always take longer than you think
You have no idea of the work I get out of the cine20, its perfect for one shot real estate, with ajusted tune you can fly around real smooth and slow indoors, and with some more tune tweaking it has enough pushing to combat the wind in higher altitude to get nice house shots or small to medium construction sites, its been a real gold mine. While i will say it did crash hard a few times, its so durable, portable and quiet. Same for 'fly and run' kinda shots its been perfect. And for the price with the O3 i'm loving it. But with people wanting full land shots or car rollings, I need to ajust to the demand, from the reviews the MOZ7 seems like a good rounder, but then againt maybe the Tern-LR40, I could still use my current 4S batts and save a bit on initial running costs. Picking a BNF is just as bad a buying a new car for me, I look at the specs, compare everything and cant ever decide lol@@GarethDix
@TheGraneable yeah I love the cinerace… I was going to upgrade mine to a an O3 but it’s more than just an easy swap over but it’s one quad I will never get rid of. I just picked up a smaller O3 whoop to test as well and it’s doing pretty well. The moz7 is huge though but worth it or even a 5inch dead cat frame would probably be good. The tern looks like it has some agility issues because of the GPS tower thing and won’t be as fast as a 5inch or moz7
I’m just finishing off my tests but I couldn’t include the AOS as getting a BNF at the time was virtually impossible… I would like to try one at some point though just to see what it’s like
RUclips is listening! haha... my next build is with an AIO instead of the stack and I have anxiety over that happening and not just being able to replace the FC or ESC separately!
@@GarethDix yep, I took it to a cell phone repair, they fixed it. Put the component back on properly. But I burned it and my ESC won’t send the proper voltage to a motor. Real unfortunate but you got this man! Just take your time. Your solder joints look fine for a beginner and you seem very logical and thorough.
I'm not going to concern myself with sub 250 on my built quads. Until there's a remote ID module that's costs 20 dollars or less. The FAA said as long as you aren't doing anything stupid you'll probably never have a problem.
It’s unlikely here too… and for the most part people don’t do stupid stuff with drones… but I’m also a guest in a country that prides itself on having a rule for everything… so don’t want to get kicked out 😂
@@GarethDixThat was I wondering about. You are in Switzerland, but don’t sound Swiss at all. Besides, Swiss happen to talk slowly (langsam wie die Berner) and lack humour. I am happy to notice both is not the case for you 😊.
if your concern about the 5" was due to legal restrictions, sub 250gr won't help much as you are not allowed to FPV fly in most country (Only line of sight is allowed). So just go with your 5" and enjoy
@@enricobononi8655 Always... you normally see/hear her in the videos. in this one she's holding the camera for the LOS test... but normally standing right next to me. - It's also handy when I crash in long grass as she can tell me where I need to hunt for the quad to get it back!
I saw LetsFlyRC's video yesterday and it looks like a beast! Although I'm most excited about the motors as there are sooooo few options for lightweight 1604's that can take a hit!
It really annoys me that they don't sweep the arms back enough to get the props out of view. This is definitely my next size build. ( I have a Mark 5 w/O3 and a Mobula 8 w/O3) so I really need a sub 250 in between. How much flight time did you get out of a battery on this build?
I think most freestyle quads won’t have the props out of view because they’re an x-frame so it would affect the flight characteristics… that said some of the newer frames like the Djinn25 have pushed the body further forward for the camera… rumour has it that quadmula are working on a 3.5inch version of this to be released soon as well. But there are a few people running this 3D printed mount on the siren F3 to get the props out of view too… www.printables.com/model/381833-o3-max-fov-pod-mount-no-props-max-protection-any-q On the 380mah battery I get around 3-4mins of aggressive flying some people manage around 5 with more cruising. I’m considering making the second one of these I’m building a 4s, but I’m also testing out a few of the BNF suggestions from the comments for a future video that I’m filming at the moment
I have been thinking about getting one of those… but I heard they are working on a 3.5inch version as well of the DJINN so may wait a little. 2.5 inch will be a lot of fun especially in small areas
Awesome! I got all my 3D printed parts along with a lot of my FPV gear through Chris at dronefactory.ch But I also use helifree.ch and fpvracing.ch as they all have different parts. Some parts like the 380 6s batteries I had to get from the U.K. as I couldn’t find them here
I am looking for this frame as well. Did you buy yours directly from Quadmula? I could not find it on the shops you have referenced. Thanks for the great video!
@GordianHubclan yes I got the frame direct from Quadmula as I don’t think anyone else carries it but the delivery is pretty quick to Switzerland (I have about 3 of them now)
That’s a slightly different class of quad, but do love these little O3 whoops that have been coming out like this and the pavo pico so I might have to get one for indoor flying
You can see it slightly at 6.33 the camera bobs up when I’m flying straight. At first I thought I was Bein twitchy on the controls but the O3 and gyro were set on the same pwm. Quick change in BLHeli: moved ESC to 48MHz and it solved it
My GEPRC Mk5 has a vista in it (I bought it just before the O3 was released). I actually bought the upgrade kit for the frame and was intending on putting the O3 unit I bought into the Mk5 and then ended up building the F3. As much as I want to add the O3 into the mk5 I don’t fly it enough now to justify the cost
You would bother because after time you'd need to replace all the parts in it anyways...so why not just start from scratch so you can have fun building it! Building a drone is easier than building a lego set. All it takes is a few hours and bam! That being said if you do buy a BNF...as I said be prepared because before too long you're gonna be rebuilding it!
I’ve been repairing my quads over the last 1.5 years… and replacing arms and motors etc is easier than starting with a load of parts… that said I was surprised at how easy it is… You’re right I’ve had Lego sets that were more difficult and took longer. And repairs are now much faster because I actually know what all of these parts do.
oh yeah at first it's scary getting into FPV...but yeah once you get used to it big deal. I've been flying for long enough time that i know that when I crash I need something that will never break lol....I'm all about the Iflight Titan. Anything less that 6mm arms and it's replacing time for me! Either way good well thought out video thank you.@@GarethDix
I started out with the Nazgul5 BNF a couple years ago. That had 5mm arms....I just remember crashing allot and many many times breaking arms and whatever. I upgraded to the titan and really never broke a thing since then. Anything under 6mm arms for me and I find many ways of breaking it. I'll give that other one a look still see what's out there!@@GarethDix
@NOT-ANOTHER-FPV maybe my crashes are not as bad, my GEPRC mk5 has 5mm arms and I have no idea how that is still in one piece 😂 The carbon weave is different on that quadmula frame compared to my other quads… I don’t know enough to say why but it looks and feels different
yeah it’s fun experiment with everything you can and then realise every so often there’s something out there that completely changes your mind on how you build and what you want in a quad
I am looking at getting one of those tiny whoop O3's... not to compare to the quadmula... but just for shits and giggles as I would love to fly that around tight spaces
This isn’t a cheap build I think it cost around $600 at the time but the DJI O3 was $250 of that cost and the T-motor stack was about $150 both of which have come down in price. There’s plenty of ways to make this cheaper though especially if Sub250g is not needed

@@GarethDixthanks for the help I’ve been looking for one under the 250g mark do u have any things of the top of your mind that could make this a little cheaper if not that’s fine
@ABYSSSP7FN sure… the first part is do you really need DJI O3? If not it’ll save you a lot of money and weight and will give you a lot more frame options. I would use an AIO over a stack it’ll save you money and weight. You could use the extra weight budget on cheaper motors. I’d run 1404 motors on 4s, they’re more readily available and you can save around 50% of cost - but it’ll come at the expense of power Running 4s means the batteries should be cheaper too. Finally the Quadmula frame could be changed for something cheaper. It’ll typically be either at the expense of weight or durability or build difficulty.
what was the o3 fix and I have the same frame but the mount for the o3 camera that came with the frame is different then murders would it be better to print the same mount he has or did you use the carbon fiber ones that came with the frame
I had to change the pwm frequency to 48khz on the ESC as the default was set to 24Khz which is the same as the O3 unit so it was affecting it. Did you order the O3 version of the frame? If so it comes with the extra 3D printed mounts made from TPU along with the antenna mount and some longer screws to mount the O3 air unit. The Tpu mount for the O3 camera is important as it helps reduce the vibration which can also cause weird things to happen. That said murders has been using the carbon fibre mounts on some of his other siren builds without any issues
@@GarethDix currently in the full build I really don't like the capacitor up against the o3 it's pressing down and even made a slight dent in it , is that alright how did you mount urs it looks like how murder did but just very tight please help
@FPVMafia so it shouldn’t be touching the O3, are you using the same T-motor mini stack? If so it’s worth adding spacers on the stack screws to elevate the stack a little and the. It should be above the O3. You have to angle the cap a little so it sits in the hole in the top of the frame but it fits without touching the O3. Worst case scenario you could also mount the stack the other way around and have the cap behind the camera (I’ve just had to do this with my Grinderino build as there’s not enough space in the frame)
I have 3 new quads based on what people had suggested, so I I’ll be testing these out over the next couple of weeks to get a real feel for them. I was supposed to start last week but the weather has been “challenging” 😂
@@GarethDix today here in Zürich is good weather but I fear the winter time (I like snow anyways) cause i don’t want to crash in the snow and get the electonics wet
Thank you for your reply, I also live in Switzerland and near a airport so I have to stay under 250g😢. But can you recommend me a fairly priced soldering iron?
@Nik_FPV621 I was near Bern the other day and it looks like it’s almost all restricted airspace there! But for a soldering Iron I use a TS-80 which is expensive but allows me to power it when I’m outdoors in case I need to make repairs. However all you really need is a soldering iron that you can change the tips on (if it’s 5inch it’s much easier as the components are larger so you can get away with a larger tip) and you can vary the temperature on. I think galaxus.ch do quite a few but if you have an Obi near you they’ll definitely have one that meet those two criteria.
@Nik_FPV621 oh no! And yes that is pretty restrictive over there… I almost moved to Zurich and then looked at the drone map and thought… yeah nah. But this sub250g build is pretty incredible… I just got the first sub250g BNF for the next video and it feels very very different to this
I’m still flying the same quad over a year later it’s held up really well. I bought a load of spare arms and only replaced an arm once and everything else is still the same as when I built it in this video
@@GarethDix sick! I think it'd be super interested if you did a review after a year of owning it and pro's and con's of a sub 250g. just an idea tho ofc. love the content!
Murders is responsible for me building a Siren F5 split. He is also responsible for me then building a Siren F3 Split. So naturally, now that I've just finished my second Siren F5 split, I will also blame Murders FPV. This is all Murders' fault! 😂
Tell me about it 😂😂 I’ve been trying to figure out how to justify building an F5 split even though I wouldn’t be able to fly it that much… he has a lot to answer for 😂😂
In the 3 weeks since this comment, I have added a Siren F5 mini to my fleet. Of course this is because Murders FPV forced me to build it. It's not my fault and I'm not addicted to Quadmula frames 😂
@William_NS I really want to add a F5 mini next… I don’t know how often I’ll get to fly it but it looks amazing! Also murders makes that build look easy too! Can’t wait for the 3.5inch they’re developing rn
@@chrisbee5481 I had a feeling the babyhawk was going to come up. I've been trying to find out if the aos evo is actually sub250g though as it only shows dry weight. But I'm interested to see how different 3.5inch is
@@GarethDix The babyhawk 2 O3 is 153g if I remember correct in some review. You need a tattu 750mah 4S to stay sub250g. Maybe a light 850mah 4s too, if you find one. The aos 3.5 is 178g dry. There you need a lighter 650mah lipo. Aos has replaceable arms and a little bigger 1504 motors. Ideally you convert both to a naked O3 to use a bigger battery and stay sub250g. Personally I've stoped compromising with sub250g builds, but stayed as small and light as possible with bigger motors and battery. After a while, you realize it's just a 250g number and no one has ever stoped you in the air to weigh it passing by. If someone ever asks, you'll be on the ground anyway and then you just show them a 45g light 3S lipo you fly it with 😄. Never happened anyway. If you want an ultimate small build with o3 and props out of view, I can share the specs with you per mai l Grüße
I just had my first FPV arrive a few days ago; CineLog20 (DJI O3 + CRSF so should be compatible with your gear if you want to compare?). I was intent on building a 5 inch next but now I can't decide whether to follow the same/similar build! :D Great work though
@@Smudge202ut you'll really enjoy it, I was thinking about getting one for flying around in tighter areas. It's probably not going to compare well to a freestyle quad like the quadmula though for that 5inch feel. But you should definitely build a 5inch, it's a little bigger so they're easier to work on than smaller quads... and once you're used to the cinelog... the 5inch will blow your mind!
I try not to think about it… but it was probably around $600+ and then there’s the shipping 😩 I will do a budget build in the future though just to prove it’s possible
sub 250 saddly doesnt matter for flying legally since the eu standard specifice that you have to be under 250g, no camera and below 19m/s max speed to be considered C0 otherwise the quad automatically falls in to the C4 category not sure if its just like that in switzerland but we here in germany dont have to worry about weight anymore we are fucked either way ^^
It’s weird as Switzerland has adopted EASA regulation but being Switzerland they have also clarified the use of what happens if you can’t meet those requirements. For instance the speed is specified as a limit to how you fly not how fast the quad can go and if in flying in an A1 scenario it’s unlikely I’d be able to get to 19/m as the areas are so small. But I can fly A3 if I want to go faster (which makes sense as you aren’t near people) With a camera (and not a toy) this is just includes registration, insurance, A1/A3 certification over a C0 which is just to read the manual, but you can still fly sub250g in A1 scenarios. I checked the EASA rules and they give the requirements for C0 but don’t tell you what to do if the quad doesn’t meet them which is pretty confusing!
@@GarethDix that sound reasonable to be fair i dont know how they would check the max speed of a home build drone anyway all the regualtions make it confusing and hard to find good spots you can fly legally for example where i live some dji camera drone guy decided it would be cool to fly over private property which resulted in a lengthy article in the local news paper which was full of semi correct info about flying drones bad thing was that the article said the you cant fly here cause its within the airport control zone which isnt true cause you can fly in the control zone if you stay below 50m but now everyone here read the article and everytime i fly some guy comes up and tells me that i arent allowed to do that ...
@bluefpv3263 I think the swiss take their time adopting new regulations to try and make them as practical as possible, a lot of the flying here is about common sense so like that case in Germany, when someone is flying stupidly it is really annoying because it ends up screwing the hobby for everyone else. There are a ton of no fly zone now in tourist areas because people keep being stupid with drones but I think the main one here (like Germany) is just not messing with people’s privacy. But you have to love the media for getting people riled up on fake news. Back in the U.K. they had someone flying a dji drone around a major airport which resulted in days of delays (although no-one ever saw the drone and no-one was ever caught so there still some skepticism as to if this was even real. But you also get “auditors” on RUclips that purposely go to places to annoy police and businesses… technically they aren’t breaking any laws but now regulators are looking at introducing remote ID as a result.
I have a view on this because I thought about that too… however the O3 literally required me to plug it into the FC rather than extra soldering so it made the build really simple
When I say durable I don’t mean Demibot/Tanq I just want it to be able to take a hit or six without dying straight away 😂 I’ve powerlooped this straight into concrete (more than once) and so far I had a few chips and scratches but nothing has broken yet
I might want to try that out in that case. Always nice to know it can take a hit without breaking. When I break a couple more arms on my Hexplorer Mod I'll switch over to something like that.@@GarethDix
The 3” arms are short enough that it doesn’t seem to put as much stress as a 3.5” Now that I’ve said this, watch me go out later and completely destroy this by dropping it off my bag 😂
Yeah you make sense. But yes just don't look at it funny and it's going to break! with that said never buy a drone that's has one piece...I always break them and then having to replace the whole bottom part is no fun.@@GarethDix
@@NOT_ANOTHER_FPV i have two Quadmula Siren F3 Split and i only managed to break one arm and i crashed a lot with em... the Quadmula has removable arms and the carbon isn´t thin at all You get the idea wrong, sub 250 isn´t directly a weaknes, more the benefit of less weight, so in crashes forces aren´t as high also on the frame and not only on the concrete :D
7:05 it's the best quad in the world because you built it. You made it fly. It's only in the air because you did everything right. Be proud of that.
Thanks man! I’m still surprised after a couple of months nothing has exploded or disintegrated and it’s still flying strong! Definitely a proud moment!
After building 5 FPV drones since April, I can honestly say that building an fpv drone is the most rewarding pain-in-the-balls that I've ever experienced!
That is the most accurate description of building FPV I’ve ever read 😂😂
Lol! Yeah It's pretty accurate!
I’ve been building a new quad for the last couple of weeks and after figuring out how to fit everything in and replacing some of the parts… I’m at 255g gaaaahhhhhh!
I've built over 100 now. I build as a service for those who won't or can't.
Hearing those tones on first power-up on your first build is one of those things in life that make it worthwhile. Nice job.
Or not in my case when I first plugged it in 😂 but yes as soon as those beautiful tones filled their air instead of magic smoke… it was the best feeling!
FIRST BUILD IS ALWAYS AMAZING....GREAT JOB....ITS BEAUTIFUL
Thank you!! I loved it and can’t wait to start the next one!
This felt like a documentary, fantastic job.
Thanks man! I can’t wait to build out the little Grinderino this week and see how it flies!!
MurdersFPV is a dope individual he did the motor upgrade on my 1st avata and the 3.5 conversion on my 2nd avata. But this quadmula I may need to purchase myself. Great review
He’s awesome! Such a hero for this hobby… and you’ll find this sooooo different to the avata (in a good way) so it’s definitely worth it!
Yes once you build a drone all you want to do is build another. I just finished a 7 inch as my first and when it flew as it should it became my favourite!
It’s sooooo true… almost a year later and I’m enjoying building almost as much as flying now!
Yeah I'm waiting on my parts and it's a bummer to wait
The worst is when you think you have everything and then realise you’re missing 1 or 2 pieces and have to wait again 🤣
Awww is that feeling of building a flying machine ❤❤❤
I also bought a bnf a speedybee V5 but I needed something to do when I couldn't go flying so I decided to build another 5 inch this time a volador.
Now I need something to fly around the back yard and a 3 in seems like the perfect candidate.
Hahaha… my gf who was holding the camera at the time has never let me forget I said that 😂😂
And yeah as soon as the weather is bad now and I can’t fly I’m like “do I go on the sim, or do I start a new build?”
So you have two 5inches so it’s worth getting a little 3inch as they’re also really quiet in comparison
Be careful Gareth, as my wife can attest, building quads can be very, very addictive......and expensive!
Nice job on your 1st build from what I could see btw.
Hahaha that’s so true… my gf knowing how bad I am at DIY figured I’d do this once and never again… but now I’ve taken over quite a bit of the apartment with parts for new builds 😂😂
And yes I thought building was supposed to be cheaper… that’s a lie 😂
@@GarethDix So it begins...LoL
Best of luck!
Any tips on keeping a partner happy whilst taking over all the space with FPV parts would be appreciated 😂
I bought a used tinyhawk freestyle 2. Now I have something to experiment with, and practice on before I build an expensive quad.
That’s a great way of doing it… I’ve done so many repairs to my little quads that this was nowhere near as hard as I thought it would be… the tiny hawk is a lot of fun too!
I have a Crux 3 toothpick .. it so much fun and quiet to just fly it of my balcony . no need to drive far away to fly a 5" .. nice video bro.
Not to give too much away but you’ll like one of the videos I’m working on at the moment
l enjoyed your video immensely.
I love that you have a Grinderino frame in your arsenal! Great video!
I can’t wait to build it… it’s been sitting here for a few weeks whilst I waited for parts to come in!
At least I haven’t got it stuck yet and I’ve had some close calls 😂
I didn’t realise there were places that you could even fly in Zurich so I’ll take a look and the group as well as there isn’t much in Basel
I would suggest:
- iFlight AOS 3.5
- emax BabyHawk o3
I had a feeling these two would come up a lot… and they are!
Amazing video 😊 keep it up I love the idea of small drone with o3 unit sub 250 grams. Mobula8 with o3 unit could be good 👍
I do love that all these little whoops are coming out with the O3.
@@GarethDix yes, barely (had to be selective with TPU)
@@deice3that's slightly worrying given the AOS frame looks about 10g lighter than the grinderino... lets see what happens!
@@GarethDix The AOS 3.5 EVO seems to have more weight even without a battery, or ?
The AOS Evo frame is around 50g the Grinderino is about 60g
The F3 is next on my list. I love my F5 split.
you got a mention in the video... thanks again for helping me out with that weird twitchy O3 issue!
Oh yeah. I forgot this was you. Awesome 👏🏼 I can’t wait to see you new builds.
@chrismillersrcfamily if I could fly a 5inch more an F5 mini would have been next on the list
@whereverimayroam74 it’s coming 😉
Get the Defender 25 to compare, also ducted vs ductless
I might have to do a cinewhoop version of this test too in the future. I’m pretty sure the defender is not going to have the same feel as a 5inch freestyle quad because of those ducts and pusher configuration
I’m at waiting process of “hopefully” correct parts. So excited! Anyone have a link to a FPV diy budget build? Toothpick? 2.5”
@@GarethDix epic info thanks 🙏🏻
Get a Happymodel Crux 35!! That definitely feels like a 5"
So many people have mentioned this and I just managed to find somewhere that has one so ordered it! Let’s see how it goes!
Great video aha you got to your first build and looks great and its like when you get your first tattoo going to get another one.😊
Hahahaha I’m definitely getting kicked out of the apartment if I take up more space with parts now 😂
those nd filters are the best ones you can get for the price
They are really good and also fit on tighter builds because of how they attach… that said I’ve already lost a couple of them 😂
2fiddy obviously. It's a very unique build and flying style that you might like.
I really wanted a 2fiddy awhile back… I’m still trying to figure out how to get an O3 in there without going over 250g
@@GarethDixnaked O3 with the flywoo kit
bravo. this is best channel. have a good day. 🤚
Thank you so much!
May I ask if you are making a whole built video about it?
I really hoped this question hadn’t come up because I really don’t want to calculate how much it cost 😂😂 but let’s just say it would have been cheaper to buy a very popular 5inch including shipping and import duty 😂
That said a lot of the parts that I couldn’t get when I started this build are now back in stock and I’ve found other places in europe that sell the batteries and motors which will cut down on the costs a little
A nice 2s 3inch is my favorite. Try a Twig Tank 3"
I had never heard of it, so I googled it… That thing looks fast!
Nice work. Would be super if you could add into description or pinned comment all the components you are using in this video as a list.
I didn’t for this one as I wanted to make sure MurdersFPV who did the original build got the credit and anything from the affiliate links for it… but I used the same components in my full build video recently of the 3.5 inch ruclips.net/video/lPGT-tZh2Hw/видео.htmlsi=w3zRSie8dUxYCA-l
The only difference is the O3 air unit lite and I’m using the 3.5inch version of the frame (it’s the same just longer arms)
@@GarethDix Thanks. Where to buy just the O3 unit except DJI official website?
@Braincho I’ve never Bought one from DJI directly, pretty much any FPV store will have them too. Depending on where you’re based the independent stores sometimes work out cheaper
I tried to fix my cinelog20, after a motor burnout.
I've fried the fc aio somehow, 2 times... Buying a set of 4 motors and 2 boards killed my "fun" in building so i've just bought a second Cine20
I've got a MOZ7 in my line of sight to be able to film different things, and i'm still on the fence between builing a 7" LR or just buying one...Trying to fix the cine20 kinda killed the willingness to build
Wondering if AOS 3.5 is not as good as Siren 3/3.5" or even better ;)
I’m just finishing off my tests but I couldn’t include the AOS as getting a BNF at the time was virtually impossible… I would like to try one at some point though just to see what it’s like
LOL I just shorted an AIO board and lifted a component on it and this video shows up on my feed. Liked and sub’d!
@@Retrosmack That sucks! and noted I'll take extra time on this next build... it's only a 4 week delivery time to get another one if I ruin it! haha
@@GarethDix LOL that’s where I’m at right now. 18 days til my other one gets delivered.
@Retrosmack and now I’m think I should order a spare one now before I start the build just in case 😂😂
Try the Flywoo Explorers
I do love the explorer and intend to get one for some mountain flying in the future… but for freestyle it’s not likely to hold up like a 5inch
But it is under 250
I'm not going to concern myself with sub 250 on my built quads.
@EricLaermans ich liebe Bärn Deutsch es ist sehr langsam 😂😂
Wenn man Deutsch spricht, ist es auch sehr langsam!
if your concern about the 5" was due to legal restrictions, sub 250gr won't help much as you are not allowed to FPV fly in most country (Only line of sight is allowed). So just go with your 5" and enjoy
Wow which countries have that as a rule? Most European countries allow FPV as long as you have a spotter with VLOS.
@@GarethDix which you alway have correct?? ;)
@@enricobononi8655 Always... you normally see/hear her in the videos. in this one she's holding the camera for the LOS test... but normally standing right next to me. - It's also handy when I crash in long grass as she can tell me where I need to hunt for the quad to get it back!
would intresting to see this VS the TanQ S 3,5 ” Basher
But there are a few people running this 3D printed mount on the siren F3 to get the props out of view too… www.printables.com/model/381833-o3-max-fov-pod-mount-no-props-max-protection-any-q
On the 380mah battery I get around 3-4mins of aggressive flying some people manage around 5 with more cruising.
I’m considering making the second one of these I’m building a 4s, but I’m also testing out a few of the BNF suggestions from the comments for a future video that I’m filming at the moment
I build a tiny trainer hd with 03 and it's like flying a 5"
That’s awesome I really wanted a tiny trainer but didn’t realise you could fit an O3 in it! Are you on 1404 motors for that?
Yeah xing 2 1404 4600kv on 3s 550mah batteries
can you compare it with the new quadmula DJINN 25 please?
I have been thinking about getting one of those… but I heard they are working on a 3.5inch version as well of the DJINN so may wait a little. 2.5 inch will be a lot of fun especially in small areas
Great video. I'm also living in CH, where did you buy the parts to build the drone ?
Awesome! I got all my 3D printed parts along with a lot of my FPV gear through Chris at dronefactory.ch
But I also use helifree.ch and fpvracing.ch as they all have different parts.
Some parts like the 380 6s batteries I had to get from the U.K. as I couldn’t find them here
@@GarethDix Great thanks
I am looking for this frame as well. Did you buy yours directly from Quadmula? I could not find it on the shops you have referenced.
Thanks for the great video!
@GordianHubclan yes I got the frame direct from Quadmula as I don’t think anyone else carries it but the delivery is pretty quick to Switzerland (I have about 3 of them now)
Thanks a lot @GarethDix! Will order when back in stock then 😊
Compare it with Mobula 8 (o3) 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
That’s a slightly different class of quad, but do love these little O3 whoops that have been coming out like this and the pavo pico so I might have to get one for indoor flying
Welcome to the world of building....!!!! #HellYeahFPV
Thank you! My bank account is already cursing me 😂😂
Nice video !
Thank you so much! 😊
what was the problem you had with the 03?
You can see it slightly at 6.33 the camera bobs up when I’m flying straight. At first I thought I was Bein twitchy on the controls but the O3 and gyro were set on the same pwm. Quick change in BLHeli: moved ESC to 48MHz and it solved it
Any reason why you bought another o3 instead of using the one from the GEPRC Mark5?
My GEPRC Mk5 has a vista in it (I bought it just before the O3 was released).
I actually bought the upgrade kit for the frame and was intending on putting the O3 unit I bought into the Mk5 and then ended up building the F3. As much as I want to add the O3 into the mk5 I don’t fly it enough now to justify the cost
Hello nice to meet you Bro!❤
You too! 🙏🏻
@NOT-ANOTHER-FPV 6mm arms?! That must look like a bodybuilder taking off 😂 I haven’t heard of the Titan but now I’m going to check it out
I started out with the Nazgul5 BNF a couple years ago.
@NOT-ANOTHER-FPV maybe my crashes are not as bad, my GEPRC mk5 has 5mm arms and I have no idea how that is still in one piece 😂
The carbon weave is different on that quadmula frame compared to my other quads… I don’t know enough to say why but it looks and feels different
We would get along. I am the person who just wants to build and experiment fpv
yeah it’s fun experiment with everything you can and then realise every so often there’s something out there that completely changes your mind on how you build and what you want in a quad
Maybe the fly woo firefly
I love the firefly it’s the second quad I ever bought and what got me started on this whole freestyle journey
ruclips.net/video/aNVY4f0G6Mk/видео.html
Get a Pavo Pico from BetaFPV
I am looking at getting one of those tiny whoop O3's... not to compare to the quadmula... but just for shits and giggles as I would love to fly that around tight spaces
What was the total cost for this build I’ve been thinking about building one but don’t want to spend an insane amount of money

I’d run 1404 motors on 4s, they’re more readily available and you can save around 50% of cost - but it’ll come at the expense of power
Running 4s means the batteries should be cheaper too.
@@GarethDix yes I did had to go though the little bags but found it and awesome thanks for letting me know
Awesome I hope you like how it flies!
Worst case scenario you could also mount the stack the other way around and have the cap behind the camera (I’ve just had to do this with my Grinderino build as there’s not enough space in the frame)
are u originally from Swiss? Ur English is flawless
I’m originally from the U.K. but moved here awhile back (my English is good but my swiss German is terrible) 😂
I wanna see gyroflow on those shots
Isn’t that cheating? 😂 I’m kidding I will mess around with gyroflow at some point I haven’t even played with the stabilisation on the O3 yet
There is no necessity to build a 6s 3", 4s is the way to go!
it's not necessary but my 6s is WAAAY more fun to fly than my 4s
Wie konntest du das Zucken Problem lösen habe das selbe Problem bei meiner?
Entschuldigung mein Deutsch is nicht so gut…. Aber ich habe die PWM-Frequenz der ESC auf 48 kHz eingestellt
What parts are you using?
T-Motor F7 mini stack
T-Motor Pacer 1604 motors (2850kv)
DJI O3
HQ prop 3x2.5x3
TBS Crossfire Nano + mini mortal antenna
GNB 380 LiHV batteries
When does come the comparison?
I have 3 new quads based on what people had suggested, so I I’ll be testing these out over the next couple of weeks to get a real feel for them. I was supposed to start last week but the weather has been “challenging” 😂
@@GarethDix on the Zürich side also
@Nik_FPV621 I even looked at heading to somewhere else in the country in case it was better… but no it was raining everywhere 😂
@@GarethDix today here in Zürich is good weather but I fear the winter time (I like snow anyways) cause i don’t want to crash in the snow and get the electonics wet
@Nik_FPV621 I just got a load of waterproofing for the winter ☺️ but then I switch my FPV for skis when if snows
I have the exact same idea 😆
Go for it! It’s a lot of fun!
@@GarethDix thanks for the recommendation and I live like 3km from the Zürich airport away
@Nik_FPV621 oh no! And yes that is pretty restrictive over there… I almost moved to Zurich and then looked at the drone map and thought… yeah nah.
But this sub250g build is pretty incredible… I just got the first sub250g BNF for the next video and it feels very very different to this
How do you only have 2k Subs? i was excepting 200K +
oh wow that's a huge compliment, thank you!
Hehe das isch jo min test spot😄 so e kleini drone mues i au ha
😂😂😂 Ich fliege jetzt in kleineren Räumen, aus Sicherheitsgründen nur diesen ersten Flug
what’s it like durability wise?
I’m still flying the same quad over a year later it’s held up really well. I bought a load of spare arms and only replaced an arm once and everything else is still the same as when I built it in this video
@@GarethDix sick! I think it'd be super interested if you did a review after a year of owning it and pro's and con's of a sub 250g. just an idea tho ofc. love the content!
@miles1812 I can make that happen… I’ve built more of these that’s how much I like it!
Build a power tool battery quad
WestPsyde’s dewalt quad video even had my gf thinking about building one… that thing was amazing
@@GarethDix Yeah a 3.5 is going to be sick! of course I will build one! Lol!
Which sub250g freestyle bind and fly should I put this Quadmula F3 up against in a future video?
Iflight aos 3.5 or emax babyhawk 2 O3.
3.5" is the way to go. Especially with the O3 and no props in view.
If you want an ultimate small build with o3 and props out of view, I can share the specs with you per mai l
Grüße
How much did it cost?
I try not to think about it… but it was probably around $600+ and then there’s the shipping 😩
I will do a budget build in the future though just to prove it’s possible
sub 250 saddly doesnt matter for flying legally since the eu standard specifice that you have to be under 250g, no camera and below 19m/s max speed to be considered C0
otherwise the quad automatically falls in to the C4 category
not sure if its just like that in switzerland but we here in germany dont have to worry about weight anymore we are fucked either way ^^
It’s weird as Switzerland has adopted EASA regulation but being Switzerland they have also clarified the use of what happens if you can’t meet those requirements.
For instance the speed is specified as a limit to how you fly not how fast the quad can go and if in flying in an A1 scenario it’s unlikely I’d be able to get to 19/m as the areas are so small. But I can fly A3 if I want to go faster (which makes sense as you aren’t near people)
With a camera (and not a toy) this is just includes registration, insurance, A1/A3 certification over a C0 which is just to read the manual, but you can still fly sub250g in A1 scenarios.
I checked the EASA rules and they give the requirements for C0 but don’t tell you what to do if the quad doesn’t meet them which is pretty confusing!
@@GarethDix that sound reasonable
to be fair i dont know how they would check the max speed of a home build drone anyway
all the regualtions make it confusing and hard to find good spots you can fly legally
for example where i live some dji camera drone guy decided it would be cool to fly over private property
which resulted in a lengthy article in the local news paper which was full of semi correct info about flying drones
bad thing was that the article said the you cant fly here cause its within the airport control zone
which isnt true cause you can fly in the control zone if you stay below 50m
but now everyone here read the article and everytime i fly some guy comes up and tells me that i arent allowed to do that ...
Why you asking us. You have a brain. You answered your own question
huh?
Build an anolog quad first. Then mistakes aren't super expensive. Melting a DJI digital system is expensive
I have a view on this because I thought about that too… however the O3 literally required me to plug it into the FC rather than extra soldering so it made the build really simple
PS sub 250g and durable do not go together. As long as you don't crash it's all good...but as soon as you do that sub 250 is going broke!
The 3” arms are short enough that it doesn’t seem to put as much stress as a 3.5”
Now that I’ve said this, watch me go out later and completely destroy this by dropping it off my bag 😂
Yeah you make sense. But yes just don't look at it funny and it's going to break!
with that said never buy a drone that's has one piece...I always break them and then having to replace the whole bottom part is no fun.@@GarethDix
@@NOT_ANOTHER_FPV i have two Quadmula Siren F3 Split and i only managed to break one arm and i crashed a lot with em...
the Quadmula has removable arms and the carbon isn´t thin at all
You get the idea wrong, sub 250 isn´t directly a weaknes, more the benefit of less weight, so in crashes forces aren´t as high also on the frame and not only on the concrete :D
@MurdersFPV is good people.
He really is! Literally the hero we need but not the one we deserve!
