I love foils and the look of hot foil is spectacular. The card with the bold letters and turquoise foil is a definite wow!! Your creativity sparks me to use my own small stock of foils. Thank you Therese. ❤️🇨🇦❤️🥰
Just beautiful! I'm not into hot foiling, as I don't have room or the finances right now to do that, but I always enjoy watching you make your projects. Have a great time with your family!
Thank you - love the Crafty Critta products!! I also have a hard time getting my head around why the die doesn't cut but I am definitely going to try this when I get back to Aus and get my craft room set up! being able to use all dies just opens the world of foiling right up!! How on earth did you discover the acetate trick - that is genius right there!!!??
I sat on the fence for about a year before I 'commited' and it was only after I found out that I could use my regular dies and also when they introduced solid hot foil plates so the 'waste' foil can also be used. BUT yes, it is another tool, another technique and more supplies, I totally get it lol.
This would be the only reason I would ever get a glimmer machine and precisely why I haven’t- I cannot afford to buy all new dies for that when I’m kind of a die fanatic already and have plenty! Thank you, this makes the glimmer machine an option for me where it wasn’t even close before! Thank you so much for sharing this video!!!! Fantastic!!!
I agree, it took me over a year to decide to finally take the plunge and buy one. For the exact same reason, I didn't want to have to buy more products that could only be used with one device. When I found out that I could use my regular dies and also the reverse image of the waste foil with a solid plate it seemed worthwhile for me. You can only use specific 'hot foil' though and it does have a learning curve, but when it works out right it's dreamy. so glad you stopped by and let me know your thoughts! Hope you have a fabulous and crafty day.
@@lostinpaper I have a question. You said you use the reverse image with the solid glimmer plate? I don’t know how that works. I saw someone use it once and was impressed but I don’t think it was for reverse images. I also have colored toner sheets as well as black I could use the negative foil on. So wondering if the solid plate is used for more. Also I have toner foil and a laminator and just bought some more foils and toner sheets. You need the other hot foil correct? So I would be able to do both hypothetically. I have a switch. That puts a ton of pressure down and I’ve heard you can foil with it. Do you know? I kept my big shot just in case. So I could use that. I’m afraid the switch would press foil everywhere. Lol any heat resistant acetate? I looked at the Amazon link right away and they don’t have it. That’s why I asked. Brilliant just brilliant! Great job! Truly! Thank you!
@@dizzinese It's the 'reverse image' meaning the using the leftover piece of hot foil. Check out my video here ruclips.net/video/AwcsVQGgi1s/видео.html It's the same as you do for the toner foils that you have. You can also use your leftover hot foil on the toner sheets that you already have. And someone else mentioned in the comments with this video (I think it was) that they use their Switch with the Go Press and Foil which I will have to look into. Because I hadn't heard that you could before then. You could try any acetate that you already have (even packaging can work as well.) But I do know that the Lawn Fawn acetate is also heat resistant, I think I did link that one at my blog. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any more questions. Crafty hugs, Tx
@@lostinpaper thank you. Great results with that paper too. Crafty frittata years ago had tons of toner foil. I was shocked at how much less toner foil there is and more hot foil. Great video I saved it. Thanks.
My mind can't seem to grasp how it is that the cutting die does not cut through the foil, acetate and/or cardstock. I will definitely try it, though. Thank you for sharing this amazing discovery!
@@lostinpaper I love Christine. She is the ultimate experimenter in my book. She has introduced me to so many techniques and definitely enabled me to go ahead and just try it. It's only paper afterall.
I first saw this technique with Christine Stokes, she is the genius! It certainly does open up more options for hot foiling and using what we already have too.
OMG! That is so cool! I will definitely be trying this very soon. Quick question: Do you need to use a different piece of acetate each time or can you keep using the same one? TFS
It definitely opens up a whole new way to look at our dies, I have tested a few now, some work extremely well, others not quite as good, but usually once you have the sandwich right, no problems!
Gorgeous cards Therese. I am still sitting on the fence with hot foiling, but love watching your tips and tricks. You are so clever. Thanks for sharing with us. Keep well. T x
I am not sure why it isn't cutting, but even without the acetate tip it doesn't cut throught the foil either. So I imagine that the sandwhich may not be thick enough to cut... I wonder if I can find the official answer for this one... Thanks so much for your lovely visit here today!
@@icardeveryone01 Yes, I hear you! lucky we only work 8 hour shifts at my work (except 10 at night) because we don't get to sit down at all either lol.
Hi Melodie, this is a tip I first saw by Christine Stokes, she is such a clever papercrafter. From memory I have her link in the description beneath the video.
Would you kindly tell me the thickness of the platform and the cover/top plate? I have a different cutting machine and will be looking at noname foiling machine. Thanks so much. I love your videos. Cheers dearlady
I did know you could hot foil regular dies. I think my Go Press and Foil instruction book may even say that? I'm not sure. I run my foil platform through my Switch with amazing results (no shims) every time. I can't control the speed but it seems the pressure from the Switch helps with the results. I had a lot of iffy results with my Big Shot Pro and had to try a wide variety of shims each time to get good results. No more! I did NOT know about the acetate trick. Great info! Although I do have more hot foil plates than I know what to do with. Tsk...tsk. I say Pretty to Pretty, too, after foiling a die three times in a row! It's very blue now but it still works.
Ooh, the switch sounds fabulous! And yes the Go Press instructions teach all the techniques including die cutting etc. which is something I haven't tried as yet in their machine. I would love to know if the acetate trick works with the Switch or maybe there may be too much pressure... I had a Foilpress and was very disappointed when my plate warped to the point that the images were affected, but the electronic machine definitely foiled much better. Also, did you know that if you don't want pretty blue plates you can wipe them with some Acetone to remove the 'evidence', ask me how I know lol.
I'm sorry but i still don't see how it didn't cut or what sandwich you used to avoid cutting. Please elaborate! I have an adjustable pressure cutting machine (The Little Sister which is fantastic btw) which i imagine might be useful for dies avoiding cutting they paper. Thank-you. I love your videos You're voice is just so calming. ♥️
I'd say the basic reason it isn't cutting is because the sandwich isn't thick enough (the base plate for the foil machine doesn't seem as thick as the die cutting one). It is slightly easier to roll through. Though, I did have one of my 'hot foil' plates cut through the paper because it was thicker than some of the others that I have and I used a shim. so glad you visited and for sharing your lovely comments. Hope you have a fabulous and crafty day, Hugs Therese
What a great result the extra acetate gives. I have tried this trick about 2 years ago with thin paper, thickness of wax paper but without the wax. That worked very well too, but I think the acetate gives an even better result. My favorite card? Both! Sorry not helpful… Thanks👍
@@lostinpaper You might get three different seizes in lines; dies / with the thin paper / with the acetate (for those who can see the differences…) But don’t use wax paper, just that kind of paper without the wax!!!
