    The cost is as can be expected for a C63 - labour costs soon mount up on niggles here and there. It's just a part of ownership for a special car like that. I had my C63 for just under 3 years and then changed to the ML63 which I have now - absolutely great cars and worth every penny

    That was a good decision to remove the spacers from the rears. A lot of people think it's a cool thing to do but it changes the load characteristic on the wheel bearing which, as you alluded to, can cause premature bearing failures.

    Just traded in my 2007 Mk3 roadster MX5. 14 years old, never had a fault, never had a bill other than routine servicing, tyres etc. Replaced that car last week with a new 2.0L Sports Tech MX5 convertible in Soul Red - and it handles like you're wearing it, and it's drop-dead gorgeous. Just sayin'. ;-)

    The noise is from a phenomenon called feathering. It’s when the tread blocks are worn at different levels around the circumference on the edge of the tyre.You can often feel it if you run your hand around the tread. Seen many a bearing replaced without checking.

    Good video and a good result for you, I had a 2016 C63 on PCP for 4 yrs and OK it had 3 yrs Warranty but even wear and tear items cost. I racked up 64k miles and if I hadn't of sold it when I did new pads and discs all round would have been £1k. Don't forget your costs also included 'peace of mind' so yes good result. After the C63 moved into a new M4 Comp, real drivers car but awful ride experience on motorways so after 10 mnths its now gone. Really fancy a C63 507 but they are like gold dust.

    Hi everyone.
    Great video.
    Purchased my C63 August 2020. After a lot of searching found a P31 sedan with 68000 miles, fsh.
    Over the last year only essential maintenance was a service oil, filter pollen filter revive the K & N air filters.
    Oil cooler leak so replaced the cooler and pipes.
    Pulley on the top lhs broke so replaced all pulleys and belt.
    Changed the rims and have 245/35 in front and 275/30 on rear.
    MOT 2 weeks ago advised to change front brake pads so did.... 487 bhp without brakes? Why would you not.
    These beauties are a dying breed.. Take care of yours as I will mine.

    Really enjoying the new C63 vids! Though to be completely honest, since I was first subscribed because of your MX5, I'm secretly pleased youre paying the price for upgrading to the C63!! Havent really had to pay anything unexpected for my NC MX5, though maybe when i take it to MX5 works next week to get it serviced I may get surprised!
    Just my 2 cents - in your first vid with the C63 you said your car dealer put 4 brand new pilot sport 4s on the car, and you've already had a problem needing to get the front two replaced? Are you going to take it up with the dealer you bought the car from? I'd be so annoyed if they messed up the tyres like that...
    Also what made you choose to get the supersports? Was it a case of the dealer not having the 4s available? I always thought it was best to keep the same tyres all around... Would make sense if the rears were a few burnouts from needing replacing anyway, but you're gonna have those uneven tyres for at least a couple years it seems

    • @CarThought
      @CarThought  3 года назад +3

      Thanks very much! Glad you’re enjoying the new content. I did say that, and I think I was told a porky pie by the salesman, which to be honest I didn’t check the dates on the tyres. Just one of those things 😂
      Technically the tyre wasn’t defective and so I don’t think the dealer would replace it. I don’t think 99% of people would have noticed the noise! And, in the grand scheme of things it isn’t going to break the bank. 🤷‍♂️
      Yeah I’ve met a couple of people that like to have all 4 tyres the same. Personally I’ve yet to find evidence to say why it’s a good thing to do? Even though I’m usually guilty of it myself! I know a few C63 owners like to have grippy front tyres and looser rear tyres to make the car even more fun, but it comes down to personal preference. The PSS were in stock and the PS4S’s were a 2 day wait. Rears on a W204 C63 are said to last between 4K and 6K miles depending on the type of driving. So I’m probably looking at 2x new rears every year.. 🤣🤷‍♂️ 600NM of torque is fun though 😬

      Yeah, I wouldn’t dare run it as a daily. Hats off to those who do.. but my Golf is what I’m in 99% of the time. The 63 is a treat that comes out on some weekends.. which personally makes the cost much more justifiable as it’s a toy for me. Still… so far… it’s cheaper than running a 2005 MX-5 that it replaced (can you believe it! 🤣)

    Mine caught fire post a oil leak between the gbox and engine. Had the part ready to be fitted on the Monday (when merc called me and said they couldn't do it cos covid) , I filled it up on the Friday night I filled up with the good stuff Friday night and parked up and the car was running its fans, nothing abnormal, slight smell of oil. It's happened before and hencenbuying the part but it was too late and it went up in smoke ..gutted.. I'm going to get a Toyota Yaris grbcircuit next. The w204 is well known for having oil leaks from head rocker covers and the pipes to the gbox. I loved that car, It was so technologically advanced for a 10 year old car and was serviced on the dial. They've gone up now as a second hand car. I also had a problem with the fans going on permanently , a well known issue sorted for 300 at Merc bath. Other than that it was just standard servicing and tires. I miss it but couldn't believe the amount of little niggles they seem to have..

      @CarThought  3 года назад

      Interesting to read your experience! Mine is a weekend car, so it spends most of its time on a trickle charger in the garage and I’m a bit overkill with checks. I do an oil check every time before a drive. Interesting to read the position of your leak, the manifold leaks are well documented but first I’ve heard of between the engine and gearbox mating. The prices seem to be really strong at the moment, probably because of the engine and the new model being a 4 cylinder!

    Not sure I'd call that a bargain. What condition were the plugs in? No point charging them if they're in good nick. How worn were the front tyres? Was replacing the undamaged one really necessary? (Not if the same tread pattern and light wear only). Seems a lot to me

    • @CarThought
      @CarThought  3 года назад

      I agree with all of your comments for a car used daily like my golf.. but personally not for a car of the value of the C63. A lot of its value is in the condition and recorded history of the vehicle, and personally cost is irrelevant when it comes to maintaining it correctly. As you can see from my golf videos, I don’t treat all my cars with the same attitude towards maintenance and usually do all of it myself.

    • @wings9925
      @wings9925 3 года назад

      @@CarThought I completely agree where things actually require replacement. Of course I don't know when the plus were last changed or what condition the other tyre was in. If they're 'leggy' then absolutely beneficial to replace, but if they've hardly done any miles/are recent and in good condition then to me it seems unnecessary. And unnecessary maintenance outlay isn't going to help a service deal history or residual value.

      I come from the MX-5 world where everything is made of tin. So I’m used to having holes in a car! Interesting to see pictures of what they class as rusty. Most cars 10 years old will have surface rust (depending on climate) but it’s usually non structural and no cause for alarm. I tend to specify geometry as this refers to caster, camber and thrust angle (if the car has capability for it). Most garages aren’t competent to perform a full geometry adjustment in the UK (even if they have the correct equipment for it). So I tend to specify 🤟.
      Also.. I learnt about Trigonometry year 9 (age 13/14) here in the UK! I think Oxbridge mathematics degrees are far superior 😂

    You gotta learn some shit, save you a fortune. I think you could have worked most of that out yourself.
    Get the books and wrench out my man.
    I had a clk 55 amg all lined up low ks and the guy reneged on the deal in Australia very hard to get and now going up.
    I may be now looking at 2013 c63 with performance package but I would not go near these cars without being able to do my own work. They are $$$$$$ good info mate enjoy.

      Definitely didn’t learn it from any books though haha.

      I found my Mr2 needed a new clutch on the drive home in it! Very annoyed with myself for not noticing on test drive but you cant really drive it too hard with the owner sat next to you. Anyway, that's buying privately for you, no comeback and I wasn't too upset with the £400 bill for a new one fitted.
