Thank you for this video! First time looking for leaks.
Great video!!! This is the type of information that is very helpful when selecting test equipment. Thanks and keep it up!!!
Thanks Eddie,
Very good demonstration.... hope to see more of such videos on leak detectors and specialist tools/instruments for HVAC & refrigeration. Thanks again from S'pore.
Excellent video, thats exactly what I need to know because I own a Tek Mate and I have a hard time finding leaks. I'll a yellow jacket today for sure. Thumbs up!
great video, im looking into buying one, so many out right now, thanks for doing all the guess work for me!
i had an ancient tif 5750 from the 90's that picked up 410a just fine at least until it finally took a dump all together. usin the fieldpiece srl2 now, i wouldnt be without it! i love it! did a test compared to my friend yj and they were both right on!
This is the best comparison video out there, so thanks for that. One thing I kept thinking was most of these units have tips that require changing as they become contaminated. Since all of these were used, just curious how many were properly maintained. I have a couple H-10s and a TIF - just ordered the VPE Ultrasonic. I'm really not good at finding leaks, so I am still searching!
Hey Eddie just thought I let you know I went and got the yellow jacket. Man is it pin point..used it today and it was sweet. Thanks for your help..
I'm sure that the select is going to work great for you. I have been very happy with mine.
i own a d-tec select it does great,it is the best for my taste, thanks for the videos, ive been off work hurt since dec.,and these videos help me so much to keep my hopes up,i dont have a digital manifold yet but im going to try to get 1 soon i hope, ive always done it the hard way,i love those sman3,i hoping to get a set, thanks for the videos, and keep them coming
thank's partner for sharing excellent video!!!!
The Inficon did a pretty good job with the R-410a along with the Yellow Jacket. I would recommend either one!!
Great job you have helped alot teks!!!
I bought the yellow jacket because of your video. They should write you a check.
Good video, you got a convert for the Inficon. Price will hold me back on the Yellowjacket. THanks.
Hey Eddie !!!
Great Demonstration !!!
I am Rockin the Inficon Tek-Mate Electrochemical Leak Detector !!!
I love the Sound , Turn it Up Next Time !!! LOL ...
Music to your Ears means Money in your Pocket !!!
Of course I Love the Smell of Phosene in the Morning , Smells Like Victory !!! ROFL ...
Great Job Brother !!!
thankyou man that was good help
My wife said I need to stop watching your vids cause I'm buying to many tools..getting my veto bag tomorrow.. Yee haa
Good video
Great video.
I have the D-Tek and the D-Tek select. The select doesn't hold a charge. I have to charge it up the night before I need it. It's been that way since it was new. It does work when charged up though.
no problem i understand, been there done that,im just trying to learn all this ytube and gmail stuff,i work all the time and never got to do this stuff, untill i got hurt an bored,i still dont know much about this, but im trying to learn it,you dont know how much these videos help me,i been watching for 4-5 months but i did'nt know enough about it to subsribe or anything,i sold some of my tools that i dont use much anymore and got me a sman3 on the way, cant wait to get it,ive watched your sman3 vid
Thanks it help a lot
I have an Appion Whisper. It is an ultrasonic leak detector and I am called the leak finder at work, lol.
Nice video!
I would love to see how the fieldpiece infrared detector stacks up against the d-tek and yellow jacket.
I was going to buy the fieldpiece but decided on the d-tec they are both good detectors. it would've been nice to have one for this test.
I use the inficon combustion and it works really well
Hi Eddie,
A very interesting video, but you should also check out the LEAKSHOOTER or EP2400 ultrasonic leak detector sets
I really like my fieldpiece infrared detector.
Sorry for the delay on this response.. My cup is a little full right now and I'm trying hard to get on here to reply.. I hope that you get back on your feet soon and get back out there and start fixing things again.
The Sman 3 is a great manifold and I would highly recommend that you pick up one.
LOL, the veto bags are great, you are coing to like it
when you tested the one that doesn't mute first I thought 'good, then he can shut it off'. But darn, didnt think of that. beeping really annoying.
Sounds like I’m in a Star Wars night club LOL
Good info Eddie I checked our heatpump again and found the RLA on the unit it's 21.8 I got 16.5 on the LRA the unit says 131 I got 107 on start up, the fan is pulling 1.2 amps so I guess this is ok so after I check the hook up than I should be ok. I would have done it today but some rain came.
Yellow Jacket 69365 AccuProbe but this model has been discontinued, its about 4 years old now, the replacement is Yellow Jacket 69336 AccuProbe.
Yes it works really well for R-22 and R-410a
It works as well as the select no matter where I put it. If the Select can find I have no doubts that the Yellow Jacket will. The YJ has been my go to detector for a while, I bought the select thinking that it would be better, but in my testing it has not shown to be any different.
I will stick with the YJ because I like it better myself and it looks cooler lol
I have no experience with the older model, is it infrared or heated-diode ?
good choice.
I too have been looking at the fieldpiece. I find they all don't work well on small leaks as I don't have the patience to move that slow over the area. I grab the big blue spray first.
I was real surprised that you found a leak at 10 psi. even with knowing where to look.
Some guys will it a shot of R22 on empty systems as it shows up better then r410a.
I see you like the dye stuff a lot too.
I am here because of interplay learning sent me.
The company that I work for really likes the dye.. I say it has its purpose but I'm going to try and find it with the sniffer first..
Hey Eddie Thanx for this vid I have been looking at both of these detectors before I watched this vid and I still don't know which one I want to get
Still a good video!!!!
I use the inficon dtek select. I can tell you it is extremely reliable and durable. I usually do a few slow passes when checking coils though. One thing to mention, and this is probably true for a lot of other detectors, wind can set the detector off and may give a false reading.......
I really wish that I could have found one for this comparison.
I was going to buy one but that was still a no go.
please turn the one that keeps beeping off
when your testing the others that's driving me crazy
Yes sir, its a Yellow Jacket 69336 AccuProbe UV Leak Detector . They are a bit pricey but well worth the money
that was a great video. thank you for sharing. wish you could try out the fieldpiece SRL8 so we can see the different.
never used one, but seen a lot of guys with them online. I also have a new JB prowler to find 410..... It sucks as bad as a Tiff.
Cool vid. I never really liked those things but I do have one I use nitrogen Or moonshine you know the green stuff
Yep I did and that is what I got.
Thanks for the quick responses. Im leaning toward the yellow jacket. Had a tec mate and it was ok but sometimes it have a hard time warming up. The d tec select is nice but very expensive.
The H-10 in my opinion is best but I rarely have access to 120 volts being I do commercial only. Besides bluvac and testo is JB any good?
this is my second select, the first one got stolen!!
I can tell you that it held a charge really well. You should call inficon and tell them about it, maybe it's just bad batteries..
Very cool video Eddie! I'm a H10 guy myself but they are expensive and require maintenance, at least I send mine for maintenance. Do you have to maintain the yellow jacket and your new select detector? I'm a new sub to your channel too, FYI
I've had mine for a while also I just don't remember when I bought it. I replaced the sensor last year on mine
I always wondered about reliability of tek mates. Now I know
It may have been better to blow air across the coil before starting each psi test to get rid of any saturation first.
How big was the leak actually? If it is a large leak, then the leak would still put off a large amount of refrigerant at a low psi, which would be easily detected.
I've always used the H10 detector because if it goes off- there IS a leak and even the tiniest leaks will show up. However, the H10 does not pick up R410 very well at all- you have to be right on the leak.
I've tried the CPS 3000 and it works very well.
Very good video.
Wish you would have added Fieldpiece detectors as well
Wonderful Job Eddie. I'm writing you from Venezuela (Southamerica). I'm gonna buy the Yellow Jacket detector, since it seems to be the best. Most of the detectors sold in the market, seem to be kind of a fraud. Thanks a lot. I would appreciate if you make a video to recommend what's the best Vacuum Pump for HVAC.
I miss using Halide Lamps... :(
Hi, what do you think of ultrasonic leak detectors ?
Nice, I was actually looking for Freon equipment that wouldt 134A in Aircraft or a vehicle. Will the equipment you tested also work to detect leaks in aircraft s also? It's Freon...
actually in one of my videos was its last day of life. the pump or whatever in it finalpy wore out. i honestly think it did 410 better then 22... rip 5750!
HI if ok to ask in just starting out and looking to be working with r22 and some r134a units what sniffer would u recommend ? and thank u so much for the videos i enjoy as well look forward to watching them : ) Thank you for your reply Bob
I've got the tif xp1, its ok but not as good as our other tif zx-e. You need to turn it on away from the leak, if you turn it on where there is refrigerant it takes that level as a base level and only registers if it goes over.
Was thinking about getting a D Tek till my vac pump started making odd noises...
Great Video, Thanks
Been using a DTek for years on 22 All I can say is Excellent tool.
recently bought a Tekmate for 410a and Mo99, I Do not like it...
Looking for your input as far Mo99 gas leak detection.
Thanks in advance, Mike ..Foot Note..(I had a difficult time switching from Halide Detector to Electronic device many, many moons ago. )
I looked for a fieldpiece but I couldn't find one.
I would have liked to see the results of that also although I don't think it could be any better..
Did you clamp around the common wire that's going to the compressor?
I was surprised you didn't have the Fieldpiece detector in the bunch. After many stubborn years doing this, its become apparent to me, miser that I am, that coil replacement is the only way to go for the customers benefit. Other leaks are around the corner, and the cost of lost gas, not to mention labor, and a return call.... will only piss them off . Especially if you have to come back again.
I'm sorry, I didn't notice it until it was in the edit stage and there was no way I was going to reshoot this video..
it drove me nuts also, lesson learned..
Great video. I'm in the market for one. How about combustion leak detectors?
have u ever used an infared Ac leak detector?
hmm according to their website that yellowjacket one doesn't work with R12 :(
How often do you use the dye Eddie? :)
Only when I need to be able to show the home owner a visual, I mostly use my yellow jacket accuprobe
I'm wondering have any one of you tried those cheap $25 leak detector? Of course I know they are not as good as the expensive one, but have you actually had it and tried?
The Inficon D Tek is an exstremely good unit, as some of the other may be, That is a newer refrigerant and the unit is not design to detect that particular refrigerant.
i use a fieldpiece slr-8 and it has absolutely no problem at all finding very small leaks or r410a........
I agree that it was irritating. While I was making the video you really couldn't hear them but you sure can in the video.
Bubbles is the king
Yes but you cannot just spray soap everywhere. There meter can pick up the soap and give a false positive.
Is it just me, or did the Yellow Jacket seem to have a slower response? It looks sensitive enough but it looks like it would be hard to pin point a leak with it. I guess you could turn the sensitivity down and move it a little slower or use bubbles to pinpoint it.
Whats the model # on the yellow jacket. Also can it be used on R-22?
an additional note, cost of the detector, cost of a replacement sensor (some are more than $100) for a sensor and only good for a few detections and moisture kills them, not water, but moisture. i.e. D-TEK SELECT. and sucks finding leaks on HFC's.
This coil wasn't hooked to a condenser it was a old coil that had a leak and I just crimped the ends and filled with a little bit of r-410a
Does it make sense to pump freon into system without finding the leak first?
I know what you mean about the Inficon detectors. Mine drives me nuts sometimes.
Very useful! I decided to shop for a leak detector and know there are so many types and brands out there but didn't want to invest in one that I'd feel 'stuck with' after being disappointed in the results. You took the guesswork/luck factor out of it for me. I like the Yellow Jacket and have used their guages and other products often and respect the brand. Since these work well on chlorine free refrigerant is it safe to assume that they work on r22 just as well or do you use different meter types for each?
I only work with R-22 and R-410a. I use both the select and the yellow jacket but I do grab my yellow jackets the most often.
Those are the only refrigerants I work with, too. Just wanted to be sure the detector I get will pick up both. Thanks!
Eddie Leverich Why?
Can R-22 and/or R-410a be used for Heat Pumps made before 2006 year and uses a refrigerant that is no longer sold to consumers. I hear that before the manufacturing date for this kind of to be banned Refigerant was stockpiled by HVAC Contractors. Any advice on how to convert to your two refrigerants R-22 and/or R-410a. @@EddieLeverich and @HVAC Doug .
Well ended up with a tech mate. It was $170 and the comoany I work for paid it. The price on yellow jacket was too high for me to justify the need. If it does go bad I can then justify the price
So, you should mention which technologies you are seeing the best results with. It appears to me that the two you like the best are both UV technology and NOT heated diode. This is a very important distinction. The two technologies are used in different ways.
I keep my h10
I have a Informant 2 and I have been able to find really tiny leaks with it. I will admit mine is not all beat up like you one you used, I thought you said you were going to change the batteries because of low battery came on and than you just did not do that, why?
What about micron gauges? Whats the top 3
any one that might work with r134a; r22 and last but no least 404, wich one woul you recomend since i,m begining to work with those types, thank you in adbance
No, freon has never made my eyes burn and I have super sensitive eyes
The incessant beeping of the one during the video is annoying but good info.
Hey guys. You cannot depend on leak detectors as you use to. I'm old enough to remember the electric H-10. It was great. My advise is nitrogen and big blue. Can't beat old school.
Thank you for the video. I have a H10 that is great with 22, but sucks with 410. Seems like that yellow jacket works pretty good with 410. Could you tell me the model number of that yellow jacket meter?
Richard Fossani did you find outbtye model of that yellow jacket?? Im looking for the same info
No I never got one yet.
actually, the only leak search approved I know of to find a leak from an "Empty system" is N+22 IAW EPA guidelines.
This is where the H10 is King!
200PSI nitrogen and a squirt of 22 will find most leaks. Some guys just use 400PSI nitrogen and use their ears or hands and bubbles, this alone will find 2/3rds of the leaks.

Ohhhh NOOOO Eddie !!! You made the video too late, LOL!!!
I just bough Bacharach The Informant 2 Refrigerant/comestibles last week!!
So I didn't make a good choice damn it !! Or what do you think??
well by my test it didn't fare well..
If it were me and I just bought it, I would be calling the place that I bought it to inquire about a exchange.
Or just rock what you got and cross your fingers when it comes to R-410a..
I would like to know if there is a good one out there for the weekend warrior. I cannot buy something that is 3 to 4 hundred dollars and may use it every year or so. Any thoughts on that?
Scott Searls Bubbles and soap!
sorry i dont agre on the yellow jacket you did not went below half of the coil or probably i did not see it i have a yellow jacket old not as new as yours but always find the leak well in your favor i will said i dont know the lowest pressure in wich i have used mi detector but still yours seems very very good give it another try below half of the coil
I have that infinicon tek...
I've uploaded plenty of tool videos for you to watch.
Thanks for watching!!!
