You just saved me from 95F 85RH inside my house. I can’t thank you enough. You have the easiest to understand videos and mapped them out in a really genius way! Only thing I would stress to other viewers is making sure A/C breaker is off in the panel, as well as the disconnect. Cut the main even, if you’re not sure which is what. I thought I discharged the capacitor with the disconnect pulled, but shorted the common to the strap. It flipped the A/C breaker. So might’ve still been live, if I discharged it correctly. My house is old and the electrics box has been moved/replaced several times. So may not be wired normally.

Thanks for this knowledgeable video. I'm in Florida, it's hot. AC stopped working, and I had it fixed it less than 30 minutes. Tried to unclog the drain outside, but it still wouldn't turn on. Listened to the video, unclogged from inside, and it went right on. 🎉
This was a very helpful video. I did not have cold air flow, even though it’s a brand new AC unit, and discovered my air filter was super dirty and stopping the air flow. After changing the filter, it still didn’t cool the house. I did a little more research and found out that if you have a clogged/dirty filter it can cause condensation to freeze. This keeps the air from flowing. So, once I changed the filter, I turned the AC off overnight to let the ice melt and now the AC works perfectly. I wanted to share in case someone else has the same issue. I found ice outside on the AC unit (in the middle of a hot summer day) and it felt like there might be some ice in an air duct.

This was excellent for helping me troubleshoot, im a low voltage electrician so I certainly am comfortable with figuring out my ac issues but didn't have a lot of experience in doing so, doesn't get much more clear than this guy's video. Thankyou man
I’ve been doing AC work my whole life with my dad. He started showing me around 13-14 years old. I’m 33 now. I make good money thank god. When you have your hvac/epa and you know what you’re doing you’ll always have work and you can make basically tell them what you want an hour $ 1. @@shanedm3396 Hey Shane, I get mine from a wholesale distributor here in NC called United Refrigeration but they're available on Amazon also, hope this helps.
Thank you so much man! You are a Godsend! I ended up having a bad capacitor, it was making that exact sound that you displayed at 1:58. My new capacitor was smaller and I was concerned because the it had more prongs than the previous capacitor so I could not reconnect the wires exactly as in the before photo I took. For anyone who might be wondering, turned out it didn’t matter which of the prongs I reconnected the cable to so long as they went to the right function. Fan,common, and herm. Thanks for the time and money you’re saving us!
Thank You, RUclips has many great creators in the HVAC space but I come back to your videos all the time. If Word of Advice TV has a video on the subject I am not looking anywhere else.

Simply Outstanding! You are a great educator. Very Thorough in your approach. You need to write a book and make it available for homeowners that have some mechanical skills, but far from you level of experience.
this guy helped me fix mine with his other video, it was the contactor switch! tested with no voltage going across when closed. I changed the switches on both units and new dual run capacitors as preventative maintenance, cleaned out fins...awesome
Great work sir, my capacitor was bad and every 30 seconds my compressor tried to start but failed. Replacing capacitor took care of it and saved me $250 with just a $25 part and 30 minutes of my time. :) Keep up the SUPER videos!
all in all , i think you have a very good video , you just didnt cover much in my issue , which was the , HVAC float switch, also known as a condensate overflow switch or AC safety switch, is to prevent the drip pan from overflowing if the AC drain stops working properly. The AC float switch gives your AC unit the ability to detect if there is a clogged drain line and it shuts the AC off.
OMG I'm so happy I found this video. Heat wave going on and my ac stopped yesterday. I got lucky and it was the capacitor. Fixed it in 30 minutes thanks to you!
Hey boss, I don't know if it has been said before, but here goes. My particular problem came up with the seasonal change. Wiring my thermostat based on an old thermostat's Y2 label did me no favors. Luckily I remembered the fact that I changed it out before it started warming up. I checked the desired wiring on the thermostat manual and swapped the location of the yellow wire from a Y2 slot to the Y slot. This allowed the outside cooling system to actually engage. Without that simple change, it could have cost hundreds for a technician to find this or replace everything; then hide the fact that it was just one single wire out of place.
Jay please pray for me , tomorrow is my first day at HVAC school and I'm nervous, haven't been to school in years and you know I'm missing my right hand so ask that I get wisdom to find ways to do what I need to do . Thank you! and anyone else here is welcome to as well , my best to all who follow this talented kind young man!
A stuck condenser fan motor is exactly what happened to my ac. Replaced it with a new one. Had to change my cap a month before that after finding out that my old cap needs replacement as well. All thanks to you. Btw, my unit is close to 18 yrs old.
Awesome info! I was searching for a good hour with nothing even close to the symptoms on my A/C, but just a couple of minutes in, as you are building up to the suspense (and I'm like omg he's gonna say the same problem I have any second now!!!), boom! there it is! A bad capacitor!
Lol great comment, happy to hear you got it fixed, and I love the username! 😂😂 Thanks for taking the time to write something, stay cool and keep the wife happy! (I have a friend who, whenever he sees my wife and I disagreeing, tells me: Jay.... Do you want to be right or do you want to be happy?) 😅
So just found your videos after my AC decided not to blow air after returning from vacation. Just found the frozen coils. Hoping melting fixes it. I did confirm the blower fan is working though it’s not seemingly moving fast right now
@@cali2235 Except melting did work. the issue is I turned the ac almost completely off to save power and when i tried to cool it back down to the 70s immediately from the mid 80s, it froze up.
Your video has been a big help for me, I was able to narrow down the problem of my AC unit. I got the outside unit working. Now I'm stuck in the middle unit (furnace) The furnace motor turns on even though the thermostat is on cold mode, and the fan does not turn on. I would like to have you opinion on the issue. Thank you very much.
First time watching. An impressive and very knowledgeable young man. Glad to see individuals like you around. I am certain you will be a successful businessman. Great job explaining each AC problem.
Going to be real successful giving away free information! I’m sure the senior mechanics in the industry love this kid. Also just to let all you diy’ers know that failure to do maintenance and opening up your service compartments to access electric for sure will void any warranties you have on your system. Good luck!
I hope you make a lot of money with your videos. This was an excellent video. I'm sure you have saved all of us a lot of frustration as well as costs. Also, for all of us DIYers, you are helping us to understand why the thing doesn't work. Kudos to you!
Good video, always fun. For a clogged drain I started using a shop vac (wet/dry) to suck the drain out. I had better luck than blowing especially if it had a vent on the line. I can just cover the vent with my hand ( or tape or something if I can't reach it). I carry a small one on my service truck.
Thank you for the tip! That's usually a better option then the compressed air. I had a small bottle of CO2 that was easier to carry around than an air compressor and had much more pressure so I usually just used that. Thanks for commenting, have a great week!
Your videos are amazing and so useful. I've been watching, but am in need of something a little different, namely, our forced-air system was badly installed. I'm told we have insufficient return air and that we need to improve our ductwork. Do you have, or can you make a video that would address some of the common issues found in a poorly installed system? We're in a townhouse and our middle floor never gets enough heat or cool, it's an inadequate flow and when it is scorching hot even the areas that usually get cooled are nearly impossible to cool. It's an old house and we definitely have insulation issues as well, but the system and how it was installed seems to be our biggest challenge. What would you recommend could be some fixes to improve it? Thanks so much!
Great videos and throughly explained step by step you fixed my AC 3 times times already with these videos and saved me money love it .. you sound like European gent so which part of Europe you from if you don’t mind me asking ..
Thanks for the video. My problem is exactly as you described with the fan running, the house isn't getting cool and the refrigerant line isn't cool, and every minute the unit buzzes but the compressor doesn't kick on. I'm ordering a capacitor, hopefully that does the trick.
I bought a train air conditioner back in 2019 I had to have the technicians come out two or three times it kept leaking freon and it was not cooling that inside unit could not be fixed so I finally had it replaced that was the only thing that I could do it was made wrong from the factory and it was a train and thank you so much for explaining things on your videos about air conditioners it's real educational and I do enjoy your videos
I always forget about ceiling fan switch up or down winter or spring and I Google and ur video literally was so awesome 👌👏 u explained it perfect short and sweet ty I Definitely subscribed to your channel u seem like a smart guy 💕💯👍
Is it a great service when you go to school and extra classes for certifications, spend years and over $20k to learn the industry and acquire the skills and then have someone come give it all away for free? Service to some but a disservice to the industry. Is he liable if you get hurt or fry out your controls?
Very informative. I have watched several of your videos to troubleshoot a non functioning ac unit. I tested the capacitor and it works. The fan will come on for a minute, then stop spinning. I can hear the compressor still running. Do you think it is the fan motor? The unit is about 20 years old
Solid video. Concise and very informative. Topics/issues covered thoroughly and well explained. Best of the videos watched trying to troubleshoot a/c problem.
Jay, excellent video! You completely diagnosed a blown capacitor. The compressor had been intermittently buzzing while attempting to start. I was able to tell the repairmen the exact issue, which resulted in a fast fix. I will add and support this channel for future use. Thank you for sharing your knowledge! 👍🏾👍🏾
Yea and as Hvac mechanics we don’t care what clients diagnosis or think what it is. Leave it to the professionals. We don’t tell clients how to do their jobs. Good way to annoy your technician and ensure you pay too dollar
Hi. I really appreciate your videos. I have a question that hopefully you can answer. I installed a brand new Lennox heat pump and air handler less than 2 years ago. This summer, the compressor blew. It was under warranty but the labor wasn't. Today, they just replaced the compressor along with some other stuff like filter drier, motor harness, contactor, etc. My AC has been running for 13 hours now and it still can't get down to the temperature I set it to (72). It was a bit of a warm day and the temperature was about 82 and humidity in my house was up to 57%, and although humidity is down to 42% (where it always used to be), the temperature is stuck at 74. It's definitely cooling, but my old system used to go down 10 degrees in 2-3hours no problem and would shut off. This isn't. The model is EL15XP1-036 (3 tons) and my house is about 2,000 sq feet living space. Do you think it's possible they installed a smaller compressor? Thanks so much in advance!
Thanks a lot for your excellent videos, i'm learning a lot as a DIY homeowner. Seeking some advice: i have a central AC unit with 2 condensers outside each serving 1 floor (floor 1 and floor 2). Floor 2 has cold air. The problem is that floor 1 does not output any cool air, the fan is working. I installed Floor 1 condenser with a new capacitor. I also switched the smart thermostat from floor 2 to floor 1 to test if its the thermostat, same problem. Changed to new filter. Does this mean i should focus on the control panel? thanks a lot
Love you videos. You should make a book or a collections of videos. Do you have a list of all your videos. If I were 20 years younger I would go to school for this. But I love to learn. Thanks
Like most of the time, we just see far and not close to us!!! It’s really our “windows” where we have to see first hehehe, thanks for your great videos, God bless you and your family and business.
Thanks for the amazing video! My AC doesn’t work when it’s around 95 degrees outside. Both compressor and fan don’t start. And if it’s cooling down outside, the ac start working fine. Do you have any clue on what’s causing the problem?
Another Comment Mr. Jay. What to do when your Condenser Compressor is on a Rooftop? I had too many uneducated workers bang and drill my Unit, I don't know anymore what to do. Again, TY!

When you have your hvac/epa and you know what you’re doing you’ll always have work and you can make basically tell them what you want an hour $
1. Respect your worth never ask for more than you’re worth. Know your limits.
2. Have a solid understanding of electricity and wires.
3. Don’t buy cheap tools. Trust me. Spend the money they’ll pay for themselves.
How can I get started in Florida
Man you just don’t know how much you have helped me!!! Just started in August and I’m learning more and more everyday 🙏🏼
wanted to say thanks for your hvac videos, I watched alot of them, just went through the wiring diagram ones and found them clearly explained & really helpful !
I have 2 years experience of heating system, now I just got into the trade for AC. Thank you so much
G unit is helping me a lot to understand so many many thing ..and what is most particular on him..he explain thing the you most understand ..he is just amazing
ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS keep a spare capacitor or two on hand especially at the beginning of summer and the Temps climb. It will definitely be worth it!!!
Awesome Vids!!!
Where would I buy a capacitor?
Dang bro. Greatly appreciate these videos! Started working as a maintenance technician in an apartment complex and I've been dealing with nothing but HVAC lol
Omg this saved me during a Texas summer and not get swindled. Permanent follower now!
Surprised that contractors weren't in the top 5. As always, great video as always. Tnx,! 👍🏻
I just started a maintenance job excellent information!
This guy brings great energy to his comments.
I’m in the trade and this guy has helped me a lot with leveling up!!!
This guy has been a huge help since I’ve started my service tech job, thank you and you better believe I subscribed
Thank you Jay! 1yr old “new” outside unit has died today 98 degrees! Great info before I call installer! New sub! 64yr widow.I’m gonna try the spinning fan hack. As far as I can tell all systems are go inside. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽🥰🇺🇸
You are awesome! Easy to watch & learn. Thank you for your hard work & generosity in sharing with the rest of us.
Amazing explanation. You can tell the preparedness of this and the other mentioned videos. Congratulations
all in all , i think you have a very good video , you just didnt cover much in my issue , which was the , HVAC float switch, also known as a condensate overflow switch or AC safety switch, is to prevent the drip pan from overflowing if the AC drain stops working properly.
Awesome video!! Everyone should use this as an example of how to give instructions! So good!
We all should thank you for sharing information of DIY how to fix our AC problems. I Say thanks and I will share with others.
You bet David! Will do. With your positive learning attitude I am sure you will do great! God bless and good luck!

A stuck condenser fan motor is exactly what happened to my ac. Replaced it with a new one. Had to change my cap a month before that after finding out that my old cap needs replacement as well. All thanks to you. Btw, my unit is close to 18 yrs old.
This guy just loves to share his knowledge, god bless u bro!
I did confirm the blower fan is working though it’s not seemingly moving fast right now
Melting does not do anything it means there is a leak of refrigeration from vapor to liquid causing freezing lines should get it checked out
@@cali2235 Except melting did work. the issue is I turned the ac almost completely off to save power and when i tried to cool it back down to the 70s immediately from the mid 80s, it froze up.
He is a genius. He teaches better than my coworkers.

Good luck!
Great video. Will refer and share. Thank you again for sharing this information
God bless you and your family.
Hey thank you so much for all of your videos. I really appreciate all the quality info and how you present it.
Thanks for commenting, have a great week!
me too. shop vac. worked.
Thank you I'm single mom. That fixes everything and you are good. A genies for finding easy ways to explain it
Your awesome!! Great information. You should be an instructor, you give a clear presentation!!! Thank you and GOD BLESS YOU!!!
Just saved me a lot of money. Thank God for you!!
Really like yoour videos

Thank you sir I gave you a like and watched your video. Fixed my ac you sir are a champ
Thank you. You literally just saved me from a horrible night's sleep.
Came here to leave a comment about how good and informative this video is… I see I’m not the only one to think so!! Nice job!
I always forget about ceiling fan switch up or down winter or spring and I Google and ur video literally was so awesome 👌👏 u explained it perfect short and sweet ty I Definitely subscribed to your channel u seem like a smart guy 💕💯👍
Man I slily wanna tell you you’re very good God bless you
The best troubleshooting videos I have found. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for you time, in my case was a 3 amp fuse, replaced and working again
Refrigeration and airconditioning techinician, watching from Philippines :) God bless sir.
Do you get a lot of AC repair jobs a month over there? And what is the average charge / cost in pesos?
Jay, you are making some great diy videos! These are great for people not familiar with these repairs and you are doing a great service for them!
Is it a great service when you go to school and extra classes for certifications, spend years and over $20k to learn the industry and acquire the skills and then have someone come give it all away for free? Service to some but a disservice to the industry. Is he liable if you get hurt or fry out your controls?
Hey how are you doing
@INKDnARMD 16:28 I'm sure the industry isn't hurting from his "free diy video's"
Excellent !..... truly great....the "big picture" that can lead to other detailed vids, either your's or others'..... a great service !!!!
You are wealth of knowledge! Thank you for sharing! I bet techs hate you LOL. Great videos!
Very informative. I have watched several of your videos to troubleshoot a non functioning ac unit. I tested the capacitor and it works. The fan will come on for a minute, then stop spinning. I can hear the compressor still running. Do you think it is the fan motor? The unit is about 20 years old
Thank you the trouble shooting video. It help me. You are very informative on the issues of possibilities of what can be wrong with the ac.

Great job on this, best one yet on utube 👍🏻👍🏻 thank you for giving us your time.
Thank you very much po for sharing your great knowledge in your videos...
Good luck and wish you all the best. Be safe, stay safe! Best regards/Ned👍👍
As a maintenance tech I've found #1 Dirty Coils. Those suckers have to stay clean. After that it's a service call for me.
Love you videos. You should make a book or a collections of videos. Do you have a list of all your videos. If I were 20 years younger I would go to school for this. But I love to learn. Thanks
Same here 😎👍🏼
Like most of the time, we just see far and not close to us!!!
👍👍👍
I always like to see your explanation about AC
Easy to understand
Thank you! Glad to hear that the video is easy to understand. I try my best to not make it too technical.
Another Comment Mr. Jay. What to do when your Condenser Compressor is on a Rooftop? I had too many uneducated workers bang and drill my Unit, I don't know anymore what to do. Again, TY!
