Our trailer is a small 16' Jayco travel trailer. It weighs about 2900 lbs. loaded with 30 gallons of water and supplies. I have the SuperCrew cab 2017 raptor and it pulls it like it's not even attached. Love it. Pulling my trailer in "SPORT" mode and still blowing away the average car on acceleration is funny as hell. Driving conservatively on completely flat roads I average about 11.5 mpg towing what equates to a flat brick wall in the wind. Of course terrain and how windy it is affect the MPG, but that's what we've averaged each time we've gone on vacation with it. Also, as for MPG... I could really care less. That's not why I bought a Raptor. It's SPG all day (Smiles Per Gallon)!!! My license plate reads: CARNVR :D
Damn lots of ecoboost haters! I have been getting a new Raptor every 2 years since they came out. If you ignore the sticker shock you might realize the resale value is CRAZY on these trucks. More than ANY other truck. Difference from trade value to a new one has been between $4500-$9000 on mine after 2 years! What other new truck of this caliber cost you only between $200-$375/month to own? NOTHING. Plus the 3.5 ecoboost is really fast stock and especially with a tune :) I like it. My old V8s sounded better and if i kept the trucks longer than 3-4 years i'd rather have something less complicated than the ecoboost but there is no other truck as fun to drive as the Raptor. They are an absolute blast. The new Ram is nicer than any 1/2 ton truck by far. Almost bought one this time but could not get past how much fun the Raptor is to drive. It turns heads too. Everyone loves the Raptor. Never had one single issue with any of mine.
I've not driven one yet. I know they have good resale, but that's AWESOME. Thank you for this info. It's very helpful. I presently have an F350 and tow a 40 ft 18k toyhauler. I'm looking to downsize, but have a hard time thinking about getting a half ton. I'm a solid axle man my whole life. I still have my previous overbuilt F250 that can haul anything needed.
@@brada1997 Update: My 2019 had 3 transmissions break before the first oil change. I traded it in for a ROUSH F250 diesel. I LOVED driving the Raptors. They were super fun but terrible for towing. Suspension is too soft and i can no longer trust that 10 speed after it shifted into 1st gear on its own at 70mph multiple times and shot oil all over the highway.
Meanwhile every Ford dealership is sold out of their Raptors for 5k over sticker. It looks like the people that can actually afford these aren't spending their time in RUclips's comment section.
I was thinking the same thing. All the negativity in these comment sections towards the new Raptor, and yet every Ford dealer I've been to seems like they sell them as quick as they get them in. That's also with the crazy markups over msrp.
nowadays you can get a gen 1 raptor at like half retail when it passes 100k miles. Even better, the people that could afford these just needed it to get from the office to the house, some have never seen dirt. Kinda reminds me of the Hummer fad. But these are much better than those of course.
I don't think few miles difference in mpg is going to make a big difference. People buy trucks not for mpg. People who are interested in mpg buy hybrids.
phil tripe, you are correct, as business owner one mile makes big difference. However, people don't buy raptors for business purposes they buy cheaper base model f150.
Just went and picked up a 6x12 enclosed trailer today with my 2015 2WD V8 F150, got 19.8mpg on the interstate (70mph) on the way to the guy's house, and 10 on the way back. Empty trailer. Truck was even shifting down to 4th gear in some cases to maintain 70. And this is minimal hills in northern Florida. It's insane how much difference towing a shed makes on your fuel economy. I once towed my friend's car on a car dolly (~4,000# vs this trailer's 1200#), and I averaged ~16mpg on that same interstate.
*Ford recommends* *If you're Towing or Hauling only occasionally, then the Ecoboost is a good choice* *If you're Towing and Hauling daily, then the V8 would be a good choice*
Keith Johnson - Shelby GT500 the raptor isn’t meant for towing, but when it comes to the regular ecoboost 3.5 or the regular 5.0 pickup, the 3.5 is a WAY better tow rig, it has a lot more torque and is has a higher rating...
Saki630, I find it very hard to believe that anyone buying a Raptor cares about fuel economy while towing. There are a lot of great trucks that excel at that. The Raptor is a big boys' toy, for playing.

Did they reveal the CAT scale weight? Curious to see how close they were to GCWR. I'm thinking with two of them in Raptor on scales they should be about 1300-1500lbs under GCWR. Also I've read the GCWR for the SuperCrew Raptor was 14,250lbs on tfltruck site and on fords site. Yet the video says 14,080 lbs? What did it say in the door jamb?
I wish you guys could get your hands on a 2017 f 150 2.7 ecoboost and do the mpg loop with the 7000 lb trailer. I want a camper and it would be about 22 ft long and around 6000 lbs. Just would be curious on the mpg and if it would struggle at 70 mph. Thanks!!!
Uhm. Correct me if I'm wrong but I have a 2019 raptor and it's the same engine . The truck does not call for premium fuel like he indicates in the video??
The best reason to not get keyless start is because I'm pretty sure you can't have the door pin pad entry and keyless go! It'd be awesome if they could figure out how to have both...
Well, I'm actually wondering about that too. I agree with you about it being convenient to leave the keys in the car, but it would seem that anyone could unlock the vehicle with smart key access since the key is in proximity. However, the main reason they still have the keypad is so you can go out to your car without the keys and still get something in it. I'll have to look into it more, to see if the car realizes the fob is inside the doors and stays locked.
Not a Raptor, but I have an F150 w/ the SmartKey. it knows the difference between the key being in proximity vs. in the truck, so you can lock the key in the truck w/ the keypad. If you have the key with you, the doors unlock when you touch the door handle. If the key is in the truck, you can only unlock it with the code on the keypad.
i wonder why ford didnt make a 3.5 turbo V8. you'd still have the supposed benefits of a smaller engine, but you'd still have the cross plane v8 exhaust note. maybe just a little higher timbre than the 6.2, but stil a v8 tone that would make the thing a lot easier to swallow.
I have a 2018 Raptor SuperCab. Tow rating is 5k or 6k with WDH. I was looking at the anderson wdh until I came across this. My trailer is 2000lbs and car is 3000lbs. Looking for the safest way to tow. Can I use this or is a wdh necessary? The wdh seem like a pain to set up, if I could use this instead, I’d rather do that. What would you recommend?
Having driven the v8 and v6 back to back I can honestly say the v6 is a over stressed joke! I went to the dealership with the intention of buying a new 2017 raptor after being involved with the building of some very amazing aftermarket (v8) raptors. Oh well , maybe I will buy a new jeep rubicon instead.
What a one-dimensional truck. Worst payload of any F150, lowest towing, not a great rock crawler, too wide for a standard home garage, fuel thirsty, etc. It's very much a niche truck that isn't for most people.
You probably busted the payload limit. I love the phony 8000 tow limit which you buy into. Andre and Mr Truck seem good for 400 lbs and the tongue weight and hitch for at least 900 lbs put you over payload towing just 7000lbs.
It's the parasitic drag not the weight that kills towing fuel economy. The flat plate drag on an enclosed trailer is worse than an open trailer with a load of the same weight.
What i'm saying is that is that the test isn't needed. People who already have Raptors know that it has crap fuel economy to begin with, so they should already know that hooking a 7,000 lb trailer is just going to make it worse, so why bother seeing what kind of MPG it gets with a trailer.
Considering the rabiddity(is that a word) of truck guys fanboyism you should consider making truck nuts books with either all three brand on it, or one cover for each.
+iVlog We tested the 2014 6.2L Raptor , but it was with a different slant nose trailer and a slightly lower weight of 5,600 lbs. so not a direct comparison.
+mike matthews Andre meant - about 2 inches of squat was the best we could do with Raptor. It's not great, but it was the best we could do after adjusting the hitch.
Don't fluff your skirt too much. The Tundra pales in every regard to any American half ton. The Raptor has supple suspension to soak up bumps, giving it lower capacity, so I think 2 inches is respectable. My F250 squats maybe 1-1.5 inches with 9k, depending on load placement....so does that make your Tundra a weakling? No. Different trucks for different uses.
Brad A I understand that. Squatting 2" for a 9,000 lb trailer is fine. The tundra rear is designed for ride control. So its not really a stretch to say the raptor and tundra squat would be similar. I am not saying its better, i am saying that they are a little biased against the toyota.
I think they should of stuck with the 6.2 v8. Having that small v6 with turbos just makes it have more that can go wrong with it. V8 had plenty of HP and was just a basic motor with a lot less done to it than the ecoboost.
Still not a big fan of a turbo charged v6 vs a normally aspirated v8 for an offroad truck. Maybe a modified 5.3 a proven good engine. I think it would be better having a basic v8 vs having a souped up v6 that could have more things go wrong. Really not trying to pick a fight just stating an opinion and I'm open to others opinions.
I don't think there any thing to be worried about. The engine was designed for the ground up to be turbochaged. It has forged internal and the block is very strong. The turbos do add some complexity and will wear out eventually ( around 200,000 miles) but its designed well. They do have a valve carbon build up issue but its a simple fix
I get over 15 mpg in my 13 stx pulling. It has 35 in. tires on it. my camper is a 32 ft bumper pull with slide. 11k pounds plus or minus 100. glad I have a 5.0. same color, thou
Jesus, no wonder the world is running out of petrol. My car can do 100 km for about 4 l that's about 65 miles to the gallon. You guys get less than 8 miles , crazy.
I love my push button in mine. My fob is always in my zip close cargo pocket and therefore practically zero chance of losing it, getting wet, etc. I've also used Forscan to disable the stupid panic alarm button so it doesn't accidentally get pressed in my pocket, as well as enabled "secure idle" so the truck cannot be put into gear if it's left running but the fob isn't in the cab. Getting into your badass truck and never having to touch a key, is just awesome.
If you buy this, you are not concerned with fuel economy. No other truck on the market can offroad like this while being able to hit 0-60 in 5 seconds putting sports cars to shame in a straight line.
You are correct, but I have owned many performance vehicles over the years and it always amazes me how a few get upset about the fuel economy. On this Raptor, it is doing what one might expect of a vehicle with an off road suspension, upgraded driveline, and huge tires. I suspect the 2018's with the 3.0 litre Powerstroke will champion those who need better towing fuel economy than off road prowess.
DANG! To think my 1996 ram 2500 8.0L V10 4x4 gets the SAME mpg towing with a gcw of 14000 as a 3.5 raptor when I'm going up and doen long grades going 80mph and driving through lousiville city rush hour! The ecoboost really isn't that good when it's towing huh?
No one is really going to tow 7,000 pounds with a truck every day or weekend. I'd like to see regular every day things being towed on the towing test like a boat or maybe a double axle trailer with 1 or 2 atvs on. Most people will not own a trailer that size or will even tow that much
wtf? You just saw it did ~8.4 mpg. If you tow less weight, it will be greater than 8.4 mpg. If you have less drag and lower weight it will be even greater. If the weight is more and the drag is higher, it will be even less!
A lot of people say "oh no one tows with their raptor" yes they do. They tow their SxS, their camp trailers, their boats, their crawlers. ALOT. Drive out to Moab or to any lake out west and count up the raptors with trailers. SOOO many raptors with trailers. It doesn't even take a 7000 lb trailer to make the mpg tank. Jalopnik recently used a raptor to tow a flat fender Jeep on a trailer from Moab to Michigan (maybe 4000 lbs) and it averaged 9.4 mpg. Not that im complaining, cause then you have a raptors and toys, but to say that towing isn't part of the raptor experience is kinda silly. Not to single you out, more generally speaking.
That fuel mileage computer isn't off by anymore than your unscientific method. In fact, the computer is measuring every single injection of fuel into the engine. I would believe the computer over your method. How do you think they calculated remaining fuel in Apollo 13? Computer measurements. And, another thing 8.8 is bad. My 2004 Titan got 11 with 7500lbs of boat and trailer.
Umm, Ford can modify the computer to say whatever they want. The speedometer could also be wrong. Do you really think that Ford designed a system for the truck to weigh the fuel tank? Gonna have to say no on that. The amount of fuel used is typically a calculation based on the RPM because the computer is programmed with the flow rate of the injectors. It has the fuel pressure sensor and the amount of time each injector is open so it can extrapolate the amount of fuel flowing through the injectors are any given speed. Besides, you can't change the actual distance they drove - which the computer may say is 97.5 or 98.5 and not 98 - or change the actual amount of fuel put back into the tank when you always fill it up at the same pump using the same method. Sure it's not 100% precise, but it's less fallible than the computer system.
npsit1 If they want a lawsuit of gigantic proportions, they can modify the software if it's even written by them. Some vehicles weigh the tanks others calculate volumetric fuel injections. Here's an article by Wards Auto explaining what would happen if they modified the software. And, in no way, is the way they put fuel into the tank accurate. It's within the derivation that should be expected.
2016 Shelbygt350R No. But the raptor only weighs about 250lbs more than my Titan and my boat and trailer weighs 500lbs more than their trailer. So, you're blaming it on off-road tires and higher hp? It doesn't need to make full power all the time right? It was a pretty flat run. Some thing's are going backwards here.
No they didnt. There's 1200lbs of payload on the raptor supercrew. That SAE approved rating allows 150lbs+150lbs for driver and passenger and a full tank of gas. These two guys are prob 450 lbs together. So you take the allowed 300lbs and subtract 450, the weight of those two guys together only subtracts 150 lbs from the payload. WDH subtracts 75lbs, and at 10% tongue weight which mr. truck is famous for, that's 700 lbs. So the math is 1200-150-75-700= 275 lbs of payload capacity left.
Jake Schmidt there are a lot of optimistic assumptions here. Also, I thought SAE only allows 150 lbs for the driver. Finally, both of these guys passed 150 lbs long ago.
Yeah exactly, they are 450 lbs together in my calculations. BUT - Looking at Fords Truck Payload PDF, you're right, the Curb weight of a F-150 includes a full tank of gas but does not include passengers. So you do subtract 450 lbs for driver and pass from 1200 payload leaving you with 750 lbs. Then subtract the tongue weight on the hitch, 700 lbs, and then the WDH 50 lbs, and yeah basically they used all their payload up. But they're still under allowed GVWR. And under GCWR.
I have to laugh at all the people in the comments saying "people don't buy the Raptor to tow" or "people don't buy the Raptor to get good fuel economy". You know what the point of this video is? To show that Ford's whole 6 cylinder "Eco-Boost" BS is just one big scam. I really do hope it hurts sales of both the Raptor AND the new Ford GT (not likely on that one, but still). Their 6 cylinders are pure garbage and serve NO PURPOSE WHATSOEVER. A turbo-charged V8 would make TONS more power and get NO worse fuel economy (if not even better). Their entire "Eco-Boost" lineup is just a scam to convince ignorant tree-huggers (I have no problem with conservation to help preserve the planet, I recycle as many items as I can) that Ford is doing everything they can to help preserve the environment and combat global warming. It really is pathetic that they are going so all-in on this Turbo V6 crap that they are ruining what made some of their coolest vehicles (Raptor, GT, etc) cool in the first place. They hyped up the Turbo V6 and the new 10-speed automatic as being these revolutionary new fuel-efficient masterpieces that were going to change the game when it came to fuel economy, and this thing barely gets 8 MPG towing a trailer, 15 MPG in the city and a PATHETIC 18 MPG on the highway. What a joke.
Alex S - Even worse is half the guys who buy them have this smug ass attitude that's very similar to a Prius owner. I too wish they would fail with this BS. My company has 700 vehicles, over 100 (ego)boost because our bean counters thought we would save thousands a week in gas.... not even close.
Alex S let me get this straight, you want something with 450 hp and 510 lbs of torque, large, functional fender flares, and premium off-road suspension to do better than 8 mpg towing 7k lbs? You don't know much about trucks, do you?
Grizz 2 its an offroad oriented truck, not a tow horse, this video was just for fun to see what an offroad oriented vehicle could also tow, the same version in an F-150 had 3,000 payload

Testing the towing MPG of a vehicle that already has the fuel economy of an RV without towing kinda seems a little pointless.
*What ever that means*
What i'm saying is that is that the test isn't needed. People who already have Raptors know that it has crap fuel economy to begin with, so they should already know that hooking a 7,000 lb trailer is just going to make it worse, so why bother seeing what kind of MPG it gets with a trailer.
I'm more curious how the soft suspension handles it. I agree and know the mpg will suck.
That was more of a base model raptor I can tell by the lights in the back and the mirrors
love Americans complaints about cost of gas. 1.20$ a liter in Canada for regular. that's 5$ a gallon so quit complaining!
jimmy James 1.45€ in German. That are 6.43$ a gallon.
Ha
i love watching these tests, but I love my 01 GMC with 100050 miles that I walked out the door in 2002 for 25008. Just can't see paying these prices.
Joe schmoThat's what your father said 20 years ago and his father before that
Considering the rabiddity(is that a word) of truck guys fanboyism you should consider making truck nuts books with either all three brand on it, or one cover for each.
Damn $2.85 for 91
What did the original raptor do on this same test?
+iVlog We tested the 2014 6.2L Raptor , but it was with a different slant nose trailer and a slightly lower weight of 5,600 lbs. so not a direct comparison.
Could make a great mashup!
Even doing things like the Ike and your mpg loop without towing.
what is hte payload and towing capacity of the rapotor
so 2" of squat was a lot on a Tundra with a 9,000 lb trailer but it's optimal on the Raptor with a 7,000 lb trailer...
I am not saying its better, i am saying that they are a little biased against the toyota.
what happened to Roman and Nathan? I never see em anymore
You DON'T want push button start . Push buttons fail easy.
Could ya'll guys do a pro trailer backup assist on the Raptor for new customers of this vehicle who are curious about towing
+Dalton Hill We have a video on how to use Pro Backup Assist , it's in the 2016 Ford F-150. It's the same system.
I think they should of stuck with the 6.2 v8. Having that small v6 with turbos just makes it have more that can go wrong with it. V8 had plenty of HP and was just a basic motor with a lot less done to it than the ecoboost.
wrong,.
Fords DOHC V8s have 2 big issues
1. Top heavy design
2. high CG
3. 11% more weight than a downsized turbo motor
None of those matter, It's a truck not a sports car built for the track.
cody roland Please elaborate
I don't think there any thing to be worried about. The engine was designed for the ground up to be turbochaged. It has forged internal and the block is very strong. The turbos do add some complexity and will wear out eventually ( around 200,000 miles) but its designed well. They do have a valve carbon build up issue but its a simple fix
U Lucky guys this price amazing 70 thousand dollars it’s nothing !! compared with price in Sweden 133000 thousand double F... price I love this car 👌🏽
Pretty sure the srt10 had the highest horsepower and torque of any production pick up truck to date
9 mpg and no less is what I was thinking. Especially with 7000 lbs.
You can be a wanna be cowboy on one side of the video and a video editor on the other
I get over 15 mpg in my 13 stx pulling. It has 35 in. tires on it. my camper is a 32 ft bumper pull with slide. 11k pounds plus or minus 100. glad I have a 5.0. same color, thou
Regular key is preferable in my opinion. I don't like driving around with a bulky key fob, other keys, small multi-tool in my pocket.
Personally I prefer the fob so I don't hear the key clanging everytime I do a jump.
But HOW WAS THE HANDLING?
I think it'll hit 10.
What is the tongue weight on it?
I`m more impressed with the fuel prices. At $2.35 a gallon for 87, by me that puts 93 at about $3.15!
+dodgeguyz Actually, we have lower octane because we are at higher elevation in Colorado. $2.35 was for the 85 octane.
People hating on a truck they can't afford.. how rare lol typical internet warriors
Daaaaamn thats 33.6L/100km aloooooot
What is that hitch you are using?
+Michigan Adventure Boot Camp It's a GenY Torsion suspension Hitch. It smooths out the ride a little more.
Jesus, no wonder the world is running out of petrol. My car can do 100 km for about 4 l that's about 65 miles to the gallon. You guys get less than 8 miles , crazy.
Does Jake know you towed with his truck?
+B. Stone Yes, of course. We talked about it in advance.
less electronics ( luxury stuff ) in the raptor the better it will be & good thing the truck is not push-start button only .
No other truck on the market can offroad like this while being able to hit 0-60 in 5 seconds putting sports cars to shame in a straight line.
the fuel economy does not hurt though...
Pretty similar to what my Tundra 5.7 did with a 7k lbs travel trailer...
If you ever need a raptor in the nj area lmk I have a 2017 fully loaded
+Kevin Raimi Cool! Thanks.
No problem!!
second click on the second fill sure was longer than the first fill.

Any one know what is the song name at 2:00
what the hell is 85 octane. the minimum is 87 midgrade 89 and premium 93 here in Ohio
High elevation. They mention this all the time.
Life Hack, Drive car at 55mph to get max mpg
do the land cruiser cliffs hanger 2.0
shitburg, PA has 87 costs 2.75a gallon
junit483 try California. everything is above 3
Ouch... $1.85 a gallon for 87 octane E10 in Okla City today.
You forgot the mercedes pickup which haaaaaaas. 750 hp
Steven Cash you can't be serious 😑
It’s a raptor, meant for the dunes and hitting jumps, its not the standard F-150 that’s built for this, and its not a 2500.....its a light duty 🤦♂️
Before watching the whole thing I'm guessing about 8 mpg
I was a little low now seeing the final calculation. But closer than mr. Truck ;)
If the weight is more and the drag is higher, it will be even less!
... and I would like a MPG TEST to the supermarket, and another one fully loaded with food and stuff
...and now rhat you got me thinking, an MPG Test for the School run would be really usefull
They live up north the elevation changes everything. and I don't own a raptor or SxS
Not bad considering the extra power and weight over a regular f150
Did your Titan have 450 hp and 510 lb-ft tq with offroad tires,I think not,8.8 is damn good
Also this Raptor weighs almost 6,000 lbs
npsit1 If they want a lawsuit of gigantic proportions, they can modify the software if it's even written by them. Some vehicles weigh the tanks others calculate volumetric fuel injections. Here's an article by Wards Auto explaining what would happen if they modified the software. And, in no way, is the way they put fuel into the tank accurate. It's within the derivation that should be expected.
wardsauto.com/blog/when-it-comes-mileage-cars-tell-truth
2016 Shelbygt350R No. But the raptor only weighs about 250lbs more than my Titan and my boat and trailer weighs 500lbs more than their trailer. So, you're blaming it on off-road tires and higher hp? It doesn't need to make full power all the time right? It was a pretty flat run. Some thing's are going backwards here.
Keep the keys ford
Hey, Kent, check it out! Then drops his drawers. 😘😂
$33 bucks to drive 98 miles.. holy balls....
well today its like $60 to drive the same distance....
@@CTP1111 Bro you replying to a post from 4 years ago?
Most expensive weedwacker on the market
Weak burn.
That spanks most V8 in actual performance....
What performance? Trimming the grass, sure.
+WarWolfen Weak cop-out is weak.
Good one!
I think andres is about to overtake mr truck in the double chin race
1:22 DOG
incoming V8 lovers that have never driven a TT but hate it anyway.
Short version. 8.4 mpg 100 mile loop.
Ike
Ha ha ha, when you have a truck to huck at the dunes, who cares about mpg!? When I hit up Oceano I get about 4mpg!
You exceeded the payload capacity of that truck
0 to the junkyard in record time
and back out again to pull another mexican ram pickup to the junk yard
Mexicans drive anything XD. They prefer old chevy vans more than anything though.
*Just like your Junkyard brain*
phil tripe ya cause every junkyard you ever go into, 95% is filled with Phord and Generic Motor Crap. Hummmmmm
guy proulx whew. Used all that brain power in deduction, hey sunshine. Didn't hurt that microscopic brain did we?
Why is BETTER performance and BETTER feel economy over the old V8 a scam?
Alex S - Even worse is half the guys who buy them have this smug ass attitude that's very similar to a Prius owner.
I too wish they would fail with this BS. My company has 700 vehicles, over 100 (ego)boost because our bean counters thought we would save thousands a week in gas.... not even close.
Alex S let me get this straight, you want something with 450 hp and 510 lbs of torque, large, functional fender flares, and premium off-road suspension to do better than 8 mpg towing 7k lbs? You don't know much about trucks, do you?
Alex S your ignorance is hilarious. you dont know a thing about this engine
anybody who disses the ecoboost hasnt drove one.
eco... my ass! get a greaking diesel and be done with it.
1200 lbs payload.LOL What a joke.
Grizz 2 its an offroad oriented truck, not a tow horse, this video was just for fun to see what an offroad oriented vehicle could also tow, the same version in an F-150 had 3,000 payload
im pretty sure topping off your truck is going to lower your mpgs
