Really nice seeing the Raptor in its element. Sure, with 500 fewer pounds and no V8 hanging off its nose, the Raptor will be more nimble in this setting. But the problem with that is very few will do this often, in comparison to being daily drivers and highway cruisers. That's where the TRX shines. Quite literally the best ride comfort, cabin isolation, and luxury feel of any mass-produced truck. Plus, when the Raptor R comes out, the weight advantage and nimbleness will likely fade. All of this said: There is a reason beyond offroading on why the Raptor and TRX are so sought after. They're quite literally the Swiss army knife of vehicles. I’m really debating between the 37 and 35. I like the look and ground clearance of the 37 but the more limited suspension travel and articulation is kind of a big deal.
Fancy seeing you here! I've run with a lot of 37s (think you have too) and for the high speed stuff I've not noticed a performance gain. They do have constant problems with stuff breaking, clearance, etc. That should be fixed from the factory, but even Ford said 35s are better except for low speed crawling. The added rolling weight and diminished clearance is more of a detriment IMO
I bet the 37s will be better in just about every situation off road. They will roll over rocks and holes better both at speed and going slow . My worry about the 37 was more about daily driving affecting fuel economy and handling but all the reviews i’ve seen make it sound like ford did a really good job with it.
@@peachpole TRX has far better RTI score than the 37 Raptor. Less travel, more rolling resistance = worse for what the truck was intended for. High speed desert running.
@@jabroni6199 I’m not going to try and change your mind but the benefits of a larger tire are difficult to type out on a keyboard. If the raptor gives up a significant amount of travel with the 37 that would be a problem but I doubt ford would allow that. If I wanted to buy a raptor to thrash in the desert. I would buy the 37 version. It’s just going to roll through holes and g-outs better and make rocks feel smaller. It helps that the KO2 is a nice light 37 as well. Just my opinion.
In my personal opinion I believe the bronco will put a dent into the raptor sales due to not having a SC V8 version yet. A 2.7l ecoboost with the most basic power mods will make just as much power if not more than a stock 3.5l ecoboost. Even the 2.3l ecoboost engines make great power when tuned. I personally would go 7.3l f250 tremor over the current raptor at suggested market price.
Do you know, can you get real, softer rubber snow tires, not just the 3 peak winter rated all seasons or all terrains, in that 37 tire size? And what is the specific size of those stock 37's? (My little Jeep that I will be replacing has 235/70 R16's for instance). How about with the 35's? Oh, and with those coil springs and no leafs at both ends, do you think this actually drives smoother, more buttery smooth, on the highways as say a Platinum? As usual, always useful vids. Thanks.

I'm sure if's there's anyone who can complain about a Ford product it would be you and your father, and I see your still talking about the TRX but I think you should wait until you've tried the Raptor R and then you can compare that to the TRX
Most ppl who drive this truck dont ise it as it was designed for, ergo you may as well buy a regular f150. Its more of a status symbol. Just my opinion it does a lot of thing ok but nothing well, except perhaps hardcore offorad soaking up the bumps.
Great review! As a Chevy ZR2 owner, I’ve been wrestling with upgrading to the Raptor, but it just doesn’t seem like a good of a value… My ZR2 can pretty much do anything the Raptor can off-road, and I’ll argue the ZR2 is more versatile since it can fit on tighter trails. Of course the ZR2 lacks in the interior refinement/bells and whistles that the Raptor boasts…but that’s not really why you buy an off-road truck is it? The Raptor clearly tows more, but then again, I don’t have anything to tow at the moment 😬
I would like to know why your cameras on that truck work while driving while my 2021 PowerBoost gives me a message that says they are deactivated in motion for safety. Wonder if the trailer hookup activated it.
@Truck King What was max towing on this specific truck? Raptors are advertised as having max towing of 8,200 and max payload of 1,400. Steven read the max payload sticker on this truck as 1,270lb. Was the 8,200lb max towing you mentioned the max for the model? Or max for this particular truck and what was on the label? Either way, with 7,000 pound trailer and you two in it, you were in the ballpark of max payload. If one was towing max trailer weight of 8,200, then 1,270 max payload - 820 tongue weight only leaves only 450 lbs of payload for driver, passengers, cargo, tools, supplies, etc. That being said, like with most pickups, if you are regularly towing over 2/3 (66%) of the max tow rating (regularly meaning every weekend), you will likely be better served with a pickup with more capability. 2/3 of max towing seems to be a reasonable place to be towing regularly in comfort. Sure you can tow right at max, but having some leeway makes for a lot more comfortable trips.
When you say different frame, is it just for the spare tire at the rear? Different shocks 1 inch shaft versus seveneights is that the only difference In suspension?
Grear video! Unfortunately I could never buy another ecoboost Raptor due to the poor reliability (and sound). Cam phaser issues, rod knock, starter motors sticking, etc are just a few of the common problems. Also, I think once you add a 5.2 Predator engine to the Raptor R, plus upgrade all of the Powertrain and suspension components to be able to handle the power offroad, you'll be as heavy as, or heavier than, a TRX. At point the Raptor loses amy advantage it had over the heavy Ram. Maybe GM and Toyota will get into the offroad game and give us some good competition!
How would the Ram, AT4 and TRDPRO half tons do on that trail compared to the Raptor? If fine then maybe the Raptor would be over kill on that type of trail?
@@TruckKing Agreed. But your love and adoration of Ford sticks out like a sore thumb, Steve. I respect that, but it makes the reviews seemingly one sided in your comparisons, which should be non-biased as much as possible right? I appreciate you guys anyways... Merry Christmas guys!!!

It's what we figured - lots to show off - and I'm too old to go rolling under trucks anymore!
I'm sure if's there's anyone who can complain about a Ford product it would be you and your father, and I see your still talking about the TRX but I think you should wait until you've tried the Raptor R and then you can compare that to the TRX
I can’t find it at the dealership 😃 are they even existed
The Raptor clearly tows more, but then again, I don’t have anything to tow at the moment 😬
pure opinion. leaf springs never beat coils off road or for comfort
What about the seats with the 37 package? Do they suck?
So DRLs are designed to be on on rainy days not headlights
How big of a gas tank does it have? And is there a option to go bigger with gas prices the way they are now.
Can you take the 2022 tundra pro on the same run when it comes out. I would love to know how much better the Raptor feels.
Any good trials in southern Ontario for a basic f150 I’m in the wasaga beach area
Those tires are going to be expensive to replace and will need to be replaced often. The think the number 37 is tacky.
I would like to know why your cameras on that truck work while driving while my 2021 PowerBoost gives me a message that says they are deactivated in motion for safety. Wonder if the trailer hookup activated it.
the camara actually has a WASH feature😭
Yeah no extremely reliable and better than the trx in every way
I have had 2 ecoboosts. Zero problems. 10 years. Please provide facts rather than generalities because you have none.
never be as heavy as TRX. Its an aluminum truck and a V6. You make no sense with your comments again unsupported by any data.
me pone nervioso que tenga puesto así el cinturón.
How would the Ram, AT4 and TRDPRO half tons do on that trail compared to the Raptor? If fine then maybe the Raptor would be over kill on that type of trail?
Another fan boy Ford-gasm by Steve! LOL
Good is good - regardless of brand
@@TruckKing Agreed. But your love and adoration of Ford sticks out like a sore thumb, Steve. I respect that, but it makes the reviews seemingly one sided in your comparisons, which should be non-biased as much as possible right? I appreciate you guys anyways... Merry Christmas guys!!!
@@joelesko681 Steve and Howard are an asset in auto reviews and I've always found them to be fair and non-biased in their reviews. Don't change guys, you tell it like it is and it's appreciated by the vast majority of viewers I'm sure.
Your Dad is grumpy today.
Steve made me skip lunch.
🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅Have you ever considered doing a compare/contrast between an AWD Transit Van & some other 4*4 (likely an SUV) in an offroad environment❓❓❓❓❓
I know it's not really a truck - but it can haul & tow a reasonable amount and now has AWD...
Good idea - we'll look into it. We are limited by what we can borrow - just saying.
@@TruckKing I realise ya'll know better but I'll say it anyhow
Don't get a Dually
There are 3 lengths of Transit vans - Don't get the longest one.
The shortest would be gold...
I look forward to the "Amazon off-road" transit review.
