There is a secondary point to this discussion - the regular Raptor is actually surprisingly fuel efficient, and with a 140 liter tank it has really good range for overlanding. The V8 isn't able to do that. Then again, it's not built for that either ;) I'll be keeping my 2020 I reckon - an upgrade to a 2023 with 37's is tempting but not tempting enough to make me swap!

    • @T4nkcommander

The HO 3.5 is really the ideal engine for the Raptor, with plenty of low end torque, great fuel efficiency, and lighter weight up front so you don't pogo as much on hard hits off-road. The TRX is a lot slower bajaing because they added a lot of weight up front without beefing up the shocks.

I tell people for under 100k you can build either a 8 sec 1/4 mile street truck or with some offroad suspension still under 90k including mods. Coyote v8 can handle up to 1200whp or a good daily 950whp with boost and a fuel system. no heads no cams no pistons no rods. stock sealed motor. go built motor and Coyote can handle up to 2000hp. I live near a desert playground (Northern NV) and get to open mine up very regularly. I would do more suspension before more power as the 450 HP is not limiting things. On towing, there is a case to be made in towing a travel trailer so you can go set up a base camp near the trails, dunes, beach, etc. you want to run. I used a true tow WDH/Leveling hitch with a 5k lb travel trailer, got the truck level and hit the road. Tows like a champ, 400 mile range, 70+ mph uphill passing slow traffic. Get to the campsite, unhook the trailer, air down and hit the dunes. It'll never be an HD tow pig but it does tow well if you just level it.

Our economy will collapse if we keep pushing this insanity. EVs have their place, but it's not goin to happen overnight. I see no reason why we can't have both. Most people don't like this shoved down our throats.Just my opinion. Love the Raptor R. I wish I could afford one. I was glad that Ram built the TRX because I figured Ford would counter it by putting in a V8. I would like to see the godzilla in it though. Ford needs to put that pushrod engine in more of their vehicles, not just the super dutys. Learn from gm with the LS. Flood the market with this engine so they'll be less expensive to purchase in the future.

The rust starting all over the rear diff and undercarriage is a shame to see. For that price point I would expect no rust due to pained everything. Sad to see manufacturers still pushing raw steel components. I just had a new 2022 bronco sasquatch on the lift.... Way too much bare metal. Driveshafts included. It is the salt belt here in UpState NY near Canada. This thing will be a rusty bucket in 4-5 years. Oil is its friend! Keep up the good work!

I noticed that too at 8:40 of the video with all the rust and corrosion already! First thing you do is goto JEGS or 4x4.Offroad parts websites to get BEEFIER/THICKER stainless steel alloy or titanium alloy drive axles, transfer case and some Raptor-specific BEEFIER SHOCKS (i.e. KING shocks!) and finally spray the ENTIRE underbody, wheel wells, frame rail and crossbeams, all skid plates, axles and drive shafts, transfer cases and interior engine bay walls and underhood with a 1/4 inch thick coating of heat resistant, UV resistant and salt resistant Line-X brand Truck Bed Liner --- That will make the truck last for TWO DECADES at least and keep the interior REALLY QUIET!
Even on this Raptor-R, the shocks Ford uses are just NOT beefy enough so I go with KING SHOCKS with the RACE versions 3" x 16" coilovers!
