I did so much research into which midsize to buy. Wanted any of them with some sort of off-road trim with lockers and all the goodies. Wound up buying a Ranger Raptor this past Saturday. It comes loaded without any options. Everything you could want. Only options mine has are spray in bedliner and beadlock wheels. Got it in shelter green metallic and I’m obsessed with it!! I think it’s the best off-road focused midsize truck for the money. Not to mention it’s fun as hell on road too and sounds absolutely amazing. It’s also a head turner. I’ve gotten so many compliments on the truck already because there are very few out there right now. It’s just the right proportions too compared to the F-150. Loving my purchase so far and will definitely be taking it on some trails soon
Congrats on the new RR, hey just a heads up I just happened to stumble upon this on ranger6g and the guy was right. For way better stock sound system sound go into settings on the main digital screen and turn on the (Surround Sound) option then kick up bass and treble levels. I did that on my RR after reading about it on ranger6g and the difference was amazing Way Better stock sound system sound after doing that. Also, when I bought my RR the Ford dealership salesman told me that the trucks engine bay hood was made out of aluminum, and he made a big point about that. He told me when closing the hood don't ever push down on it hard with your hands almost guaranteed that you will dent the hood doing that. Next, he physically showed me the bast/safest way to close it, when you are lowering the hood down have your fingers under the underside front lip of the hood and when it is about a foot away from being closed pull your fingers away real quickly and just let it freefall down. 👍
@@2011buddyleeGreat suggestion on the sound settings... I hadn't caught that one on the forum but just tried that out and can confirm it makes a world of difference on stock. Cheers
Your welcome no problem, you know before I bought my RR I kept reading a bunch of posts on ranger6g saying that the first thing that you need to do after buying it is to upgrade the sound system. Then when I got my RR it really didn't sound bad and it sounded pretty much the same as my last truck 2019 Colorado ZR2 with the Bose premium sound system. Then after reading the post on ranger6g where the guy said to turn on the surround sound option and kick up bass and treble levels, wow what a big difference after doing that and it sounds way better than the ZR2 Bose sound system.

Seems like my next vehicle will be a Ranger Raptor! Had a Bronco Raptor ordered, but the “RR” is a better size for All Around Off-Roading, and Dollar for Dollar a much Better Buy!
As much as I love this truck I would love a Naturally Aspirated engine. V8 or V6. Based on the reliability of the Coyote, Ford can make some solid power plants. Also, I'd love a manual. However, the looks, the capabilities of this baby? Amazing.
I have owned the RR for about 6 months now. i have been a Ford guy for years, owned multiple F-150's, 250's. this truck is a blast to drive, so easy to maneuver. only issue i have had is on occasion the drive mode wants to switch on its own?? i have seen a few others mention the same issue. i took it to Ford, did a computer inspection and nothing comes up, hopefully it will not do it again. hate to go from normal driving mode to rock crawl going 75 down the road! otherwise no complaints, highly recommend. my new bronco badlands had glitches initially too.
My RR is 5 months old and so far, I haven't had that issue or at least not yet.🤞I have had an issue when listening to songs that are downloaded onto my Apple cell phone/ iTunes losing connection on a few occasions though, but a quick easy system reboot then makes it work again.✌
@ well for starters a $200/mo less payment is a possibility, I love the F150 but the size can be a problem sometimes as I am in an urban/suburban area of New England. Overall I’m thinking a RR might be a better daily driver than its big brother. Still on the fence though for sure. I’m like 75/25 in favor of the RR. So we’ll see I guess.
@ I do like it quite a bit! I’ll be the first to admit that for the first week I had some big time buyer remorse while I adjusted to the smaller cab and got into a comfortable seating position. I drove it in the snow one day and I have completely fallen in love with it. The RR just wants to GO fast! Super sporty, handles fantastic, can’t wait to do some off-road stuff. Gonna get the tune installed in the spring too! Go for it. Keep in mind it will take a while as mine took 6 months and I have been told that new orders could take up to 8 months now. There was actually a used one at the dealership I got mine at with only like 2k miles on it. I think they wanted $57995 (probably gone by now though). Portsmouth Ford in Portsmouth, NH. Cheers!
Even if its not the best at everything in stock form, its a better platform to start from than any of the others. 3.0 Ecoboost, 10 speed, 4.27 gears, 5 link rear suspension, etc etc etc all give you a really solid base to start from. Slap some 35's and a small lift on it and it will perform well as a crawler. It's already geared well enough to not even care about 35's. I also prefer the live valve shocks. Being able to adjust from the cabin is great. I bought and LX570 with Toyota's AHC suspension and the ability to adjust dampening on the fly by turning a knob is fantastic. I can be confidently towing my trailer, then 5 minutes later be bombing down a dirt road just floating.
Its not a rock crawler, hate people who buy these types of performance desert trucks for rock crawling or overlanding for high speed off roading what it is built for
The Gladiator is a better platform if you don't care about money. 392 swap, Dana 60s, 44in tires, 5.36 or lower gear ratio, still tows 7000 lbs, air suspension capable.... Only issue is you're going to spend 140k+ for a Gladiator that's maxxed out. You'll spend $70k to have a RR that's outfitted nicely. And it's plenty for most people
@@cl3826 and the cooling system sucks so if you intend to use your truck to tow anything substantial the gladiator is not a great choice. I passed on the Ecodiesel gladiator for that exact reason
@@Jay-me7gw The cooling is easy to upgrade if you want the 3.6, that's part of the tow package. And if you do a 392 swap you upgrade the cooling with the engine swap. RR towing is only 5500, Gladiator Rubicon X stock is 7000. However, RR has a MUCH better payload. You'll probably run out of that with the Gladiator
@ the problem is the radiator in the gladiator is incredibly small because of the limited frontal area from the wrangler design. Tons and tons of the Ecodiesel people reported really bad overheating under even relatively mild towing situations. There was like a 200 page thread on the Gladitor forum about it
You'll crack the plastic trans pan everytime.... sent a rock right through that thing.... jb welded a soda can to it (it was unavailable for replacement, production problem)and spent an hour pumping highly toxic transfluid with the ketchup pump... fun stuff
I hate to call a nearly $60k truck a bargain, but for what this is, it sure seems like one. When you compare it to something like the Bronco Raptor, it's damn near twice the price.
Thanks for this video. You addressed two things that I haven't found in about 20 other RR reviews. 1. How is it in mud? 2. How does a dude with my build fit in the truck? Mine is coming in later this month. Can't wait.
Deep wheel ruts is it's Achilles heel. The rear lower suspension attachment points inboard of the wheels, hang down similar to a leaf spring pack, so that when a wheel drops into a rut it drags the suspension in the ground acting like an anchor. It's a poor design for an off-road vehicle where ground clearance should be an important focus.
The truck is already setup for 35's with 4.27 gears. I dont know why it didnt just come with them but maybe it was so that it didnt step on the F150 raptor's toes
@@Jay-me7gwdo your research the truck literally wasn’t setup for 35s. It has a standard steering rack. The f150 has 35s bc it’s an overblown pig boat
@@fanboiahoy260 The steering rack is the same one that comes in Sasquatch broncos, which while somewhat inadequate a part, the package *is* designed for 35s. Consider doing YOUR research.
I love this truck, best all around truck for me, on my daily drive its just like any old other truck except handles better on road, does great in any off road I’ve put it in and each time the truck laughed at me, it was so much more capable than my skill level, amazing for long trips, the suspension is amazing and what’s crazy is you can drop a factory tune in it that makes it even more bonkers and still keep your warranty
Just a heads up the new Ford Performance tune for the Ranger Raptor comes with a 3yr/36k mile warranty from Ford Performance and that warranty starts at the purchase date of the truck, not at the installation date of the tune. If you have powertrain failure during the first 3yr/36k mile ownership of the truck and Ford dealership or Ford Motor Co. says tune caused the powertrain failure you are covered. If you have powertrain failure after 3yr/36k mile tune warranty expires and Ford dealership or Ford Motor Co. says that the Tune caused the powertrain failure, (and rest assured Ford will play that card) at that point your standard RR powertrain warranty or any extended bumper to bumper warranty with regards to the powertrain warranty is then null and void. Then your SOL and paying Big Dollars out of your own pocket to fix the powertrain issue.
@ yeah you gotta pay to play, it’s always a risk, but I’ve had so many tuned cars in the past and never had failures. Some of which I beat up on the track regularly.
It must cost millions to tool up for so many different models, packages and special upgrades. They should just offer a basic Raptor for off road and let the customer select what they want or can afford. Same for the WT variant. It would keep the faithful customers coming back for more, instead of losing them to another brand or deal they can really afford. Awesome truck, could probably say that about most of the brands out there. Great time to be into off roading. Nice review TK
Nice that ford keeps the exhaust tucked up too unlike the 3rd gen tacoma that has it hand down a bit by the y pipe. Price for these sucks though but then again prices are up every where
Love that they put a great powerplant in it. Excellent suspension too. Seems like such a better deal than the TRD Pro and even the TRD Offroad. I don't understand the running board though. Why not a proper rock slider...?
Yeah eventually I’ll probably replace the running boards on mine with proper rock sliders. They’re not even mounted to the frame. They’re mounted to the body which can’t be good if you slide over some rocks
It's not designed for rock crawling.... the entire Raptor lineup is purpose built for high-speed, desert racing applications, your desired 'rock rails' come with a heavy physical weight, and we can all acknowledge that weight
solomon, better watch the Edmunds review 2024 Colorado ZR2 (Bison), 2024 Tacoma TRD Pro, and 2024 Ranger Raptor dirt comparison test, before making that comment. Let me save you the trouble the Ranger Raptor smoked the ZR2, and the Tacoma TRD Pro, and even the new Taco smoked the ZR2.
@@DCINC2 Fair enough, I hear you, but the running boards are still a weird choice and rob precious clearance. Touch those at speed and they'll prob shear clear off... and who knows what damage inflict.
Same as 21 jeep grand cherokee trailhawk... trailhawk has skid plates over everything, even fuel tanks but for some reason none over the plastic transmission pan. Someone should speak to the engineers about this weird choice.
My only complaint with the Ranger Raptor is how low to the ground it looks. That may be because of the running boards on the Ranger. If I had one I would try to lift it maybe 1.5 inches or so if that is possible with the live valve shocks without affecting the ride quality of the shocks
Anyone who is interested in buying a new gas burning mid-size 4x4 truck really needs to take the Ranger Raptor for a test drive and during the test drive lay into the accelerator pedal hard and let it run out for about 4 seconds. Trust me after doing that you will instantly forget about all the other mid-size 4x4 trucks and you will be buying the RR that day, just like I did.✌
Reviews like this one are the reason that I have an order in at my local dealer for a '25 Ranger Raptor. I have owned a couple F150 Raptors, and my only complaint was that they were much bigger than what I need. This thing seems to be sized perfectly and still feels special. Thanks for putting it through its paces on your course. I really enjoy your videos and honest reactions.
I drive a '17 Tacoma Off Road on 33's and king shocks. Looking at a Raptor or Ranger Raptor. Leaning towards the RR. Does the full sized raptor make parking, u turns, gas stations, etc. a pain in the ass?
Gotta be honest though.. I wasn't subscribed to your channel but this video made me do it.. greetings from guatemala 🇬🇹 amigo ..I'm officially subscribed .. Great video keep up the good work
Would love if you’d take a bit more time under the ramp. Here’s the oil drain but it’s covered by the skid plate. Oh, there’s the oil filter, easy to get to, etc. Truck guys watch Truck King and truck guys care about stuff like that.
Well, I traded in my 19 TRD pro taco for a 24 ranger raptor. And I will say the raptor is better in every single way. power, comfort, infotainment, capabilities, fuel econ, looks, etc etc. Taco doesnt win a single thing and I LOVED that truck. And its well known that the 3rd gen taco>4th gen taco, so I dont even have to mention the rangers current "competition".
With 600 bucks, you can also make the raptor 460hp/535ftlb tq and retain your warrantee. The extended 100k mile one in my case. Even with an aftermarket TT kit the ol 3rd gen couldnt do that.
In other countries that have had this vehicle (Australia) for years it use to have a Diesel but it was just not performance enough hence why it moved to the twin turbo 3 litre
I almost went with RR but ended up with a ZR2 instead. Ford dealer near me just had to much of a markup it left a bad taste in my mouth and the ZR2 was 50k out the door with every option. The V6 is nice though maybe next truck ill check it out
ZR2 is a great value. I think if it wasn't for the V6, I would prefer the ZR2 to the Ranger, I like the look of the exterior and interior better on the GM trucks.
I was heavily considering the Colorados/Canyons over the Raptor because of the price. They’re a good bit cheaper even in ZR2/AT4X form. Ultimately wound up with a Raptor this past weekend because dealer near me had a Black Friday deal going on offering vehicles with no markups at all. Couldn’t resist after I took one for a test drive. And the shelter green metallic looked too good
I absolutely hate these vertical screens. I have lots of problems with the new Tacoma, but I vastly prefer its landscape "tablet-slapped-on-dash" look and function. I know lots of people don't like that, but I never hated much. Yes, putting it in the dash would be better, but I never hated the on top of dash look much. Always felt like an explorers aftermarket install or something at least. These vertical screens in Ford and Subaru I just hate. Vertical screens are for reading a kindle or scrolling articles. Not viewing maps or media.
@@kevincinnamontoast3669 odd reply. My point was they probably cost more than a pair of Bilstien shocks. What is pricey to you? Damn! I’m such a sucker. I read your other posts and realized you’re a bot.🤣
The Multimatic shocks on the ZR2 were $1600 each when I owned one and have a pretty high failure rate. These, being active, are probably considerably more. Monotubes are good enough for me now thanks. Not much Baja racing here on the prairies.
Ok. I was pretty skeptical at first. It looks way better in video than photos. The interior is leagues ahead of anything CDJR has ever produced. The speaker has got to go though. It should accentuate the cool EV sound, not fake V8 sounds
Yeah it's a tacoma killer. $89k CAD in USD is $59 USD. In 2000 that's about $30k, so counting for inflation that's right on the money. Wages haven't increased with inflation so don't get mad at the manufacturers. I'm fortunate to have got one, ordered in late may and had it for a month and a half, and its definitely a tacoma killer.
@@Jay-me7gw I guess what I’m saying is all other models convert from usd to can dollars and the canadian price is less than the conversion. The RR converts then adds almost 10k to the Canadian price. That’s what I mean by screwing us over on the price here in Canada.

There was like a 200 page thread on the Gladitor forum about it
You'll crack the plastic trans pan everytime.... sent a rock right through that thing.... jb welded a soda can to it (it was unavailable for replacement, production problem)and spent an hour pumping highly toxic transfluid with the ketchup pump... fun stuff
Trans pan business opportunity there by the look of it !!
Excellent episode as always!!!! 😁
I hate to call a nearly $60k truck a bargain, but for what this is, it sure seems like one. When you compare it to something like the Bronco Raptor, it's damn near twice the price.
Yeah I don’t get that at all. $30k more with the exact same engine
@@trickster8635 Good info for others. I lack offroading opportunities where I live that would ever challenge the RR's capabilities.
They need a sasquatch for the Ranger. 35 inch tires!
@fanboiahoy260 It's not a pig boat. It's just a full sized truck 😅
Nice ride!! Great review.. thanks 👍
Great report and it looks like you're having fun doing it.
GREAT REVIEW AS ALWAYS. Thank you
My only regret was not getting that Azure Blue. For my wife’s part she picked Shelter Green. Happy wife…
I got one msrp is USA and absolutely love it.
Thank you.
Ahhhhhhh! Await the recalls! A Ford promise!
Name a truck manufacturer who hasn't had a recall?
I'm a Tacoma fanboy. I currently own a 2011 TRD Pro TX and I'm thinking about trading it in for the Raptor.
RR gotta beat the bison first before being compared to the great tacoma
The dev engineers for the RR should get a bonus and promoted. The engineers for the TRD should be fired.
Toyota didn't get Aussies to do it.
Same as 21 jeep grand cherokee trailhawk... trailhawk has skid plates over everything, even fuel tanks but for some reason none over the plastic transmission pan. Someone should speak to the engineers about this weird choice.
@@joeamith838 I’m sure the aftermarket will solve this shortly.
I bought the RR for the price . I've had it for 5 months and love it
Thats awesome!! My 23 Nissan Titan Pro-4x would smoke your RR!! 😂🎉

The Ranger Raptor is nice tho. I've watched a lot of videos on RUclips. I just bought the Titan Pro-4x for reliability
You don’t have any snow, you should head up to Sudbury and play in the snow, we have lots.
My only complaint with the Ranger Raptor is how low to the ground it looks. That may be because of the running boards on the Ranger. If I had one I would try to lift it maybe 1.5 inches or so if that is possible with the live valve shocks without affecting the ride quality of the shocks
The camera work through the woods was superb. And no this ain’t no Fkn bot
Great video. I like the color combo.
I agree 👍
Anyone who is interested in buying a new gas burning mid-size 4x4 truck really needs to take the Ranger Raptor for a test drive and during the test drive lay into the accelerator pedal hard and let it run out for about 4 seconds. Trust me after doing that you will instantly forget about all the other mid-size 4x4 trucks and you will be buying the RR that day, just like I did.✌
Agreed!
Very good vehicle, my friend. I will buy a truck like that if I get the chance now. Very good...
As a big guy ( 6'4 230) i definitely prefer my f150 Raptor over the lil one. If you are a smaller guy maybe it would be comfortable.
I drive a '17 Tacoma Off Road on 33's and king shocks. Looking at a Raptor or Ranger Raptor. Leaning towards the RR. Does the full sized raptor make parking, u turns, gas stations, etc. a pain in the ass?
@BuckBreaker Of you can't park a 1/2 maybe you should buy a civic son.

Welcome aboard!
Saw one yesterday for the first time in person. They are sharp trucks, would love to drive one
While on the ramp, you missed the plastic transmission pan with no drain plug. (and no protection)
That pan is the only let-down on my '19 Ranger.
Would love if you’d take a bit more time under the ramp. Here’s the oil drain but it’s covered by the skid plate. Oh, there’s the oil filter, easy to get to, etc. Truck guys watch Truck King and truck guys care about stuff like that.
Transmissions haven't had a drain plug for at least 2 decades
Easy aftermarket fix on the trans pan.
@@wolfgang_h3t I've been complaining for two decades too.
@@AndrewJohnson-x2e That Raptor's got a "Baja Mode" and three different exhaust tones, but I have to buy a pan with a drain plug? Makes no sense.
Yes
After off roading for 50+ years , i can say, i have never wanted crawl control or camera"s .
People have been convinced that that need all that to go over a curb.
Great video
The Ranger Raptor is a great truck. But it needs at least 35s and more ground clearance to be totally great!
Let me just say on behalf of Australia, you're welcome!
I'd love to see this with a diesel option.
In other countries that have had this vehicle (Australia) for years it use to have a Diesel but it was just not performance enough hence why it moved to the twin turbo 3 litre
We have them in South Africa but i want big American ones
Ford should give you a commission.
Great vid
Don’t love that graphic of on the rear . Just too late 70s for me
Only real way to answer the question = look at sales throughout the year
Awesome video, thank-you. Do you think or know if Ford is bringing the Everest to Canada?
I would guess replacing or rebuilding suspension could be a pricey endeavor.
What is pricey? Get a job.
Looks like $800 for rebuilding all 4 live valve shocks on the F150 Raptor on some vendors on line. So I would expect similar.
@@JSEMEYou're saying it's $6400 to rebuild the shocks on A Colorado?
Did I hear right that the ranger raptor’s frame is more robust than a regular ranger?
Best truck for the money, period.
The Gladiator got updated?
I was all in on the new Toyota until they came out in 4 cylinder and increased price. $55,000 for RR vs $66,000 for TRD PRO
Way cheaper then the trd pro to
Yes it is.
Yep the Taco has that plastic angular look...
Hi! Is this the new, 2025 color Command Grey?

Ford really screwed Canadians only offering the RR with all the options. 80k plus base price.
The Raptor only comes fully loaded in the states also. Very few options like headlock rims are available.
@ 50k usd converts to 70k in Canada. I know you can get a base RR for low 50’s in the US.
The US RR is fully loaded by default. The only "options" are things like bed liners and tonneau covers.
@@Jay-me7gw I guess what I’m saying is all other models convert from usd to can dollars and the canadian price is less than the conversion. The RR converts then adds almost 10k to the Canadian price. That’s what I mean by screwing us over on the price here in Canada.
