Sad to see a historically great truck becoming more expensive with plastic skids and a turbo that's gonna be a headache to fix with any problems. Cost to benefit with Toyota getting slim.

Love my first gen. Still running strong 25 years later. I wouldn't consider anything made after 2017 with Toyota's hybrid crap, turbo engines, and plastic joke skids. Come on Toyota get it together.

Crazy to think I paid 35k for my almost fully loaded 17 Trd Offroad 7 years ago....I'll wait until these manufactuer's feel the pinch of gouging before I pay that much for a truck, especially for a midsize. That's a 30k truck....not a 50k+ truck.

    • @hunterfrog8678

35k in 2017 is equivalent to 45k just from inflation which is higher than what this truck starts at

@@hunterfrog8678my 23 base trd off road was 40K so sounds about right. I still got a power sliding rear window, I think that’s an extra now.

Besides the plastic skid plates which is totally ridiculous to put on a off-road truck this is the truck to get if you want a Toyota. At 43,000 you can put better tires on there add some real skid plates and you have a fairly equited off road truck. All that extra stuff like cameras and drive modes is nice but not necessary. Older guys like myself got along just fine back in the day without all those wiz bang gizmos that trucks have today

Taking a 60,000 dollar truck (tax plus tags)in the mud and up hills , doesn’t make much sense any more, sxs do the same. Most vehicle insurance will not cover the type of driving you show when damage happens, 60 k not something to burry in the mud. With all the accessories great for areas of snow and job commute.

  • @djjd3027
    @djjd3027 5 дней назад +1

The biggest positive for this truck is that its the only one left in its class that offers a manual transmission. And that's the only reason its on my short list for my next purchase. Still way over priced but a lot simpler then all the absurd nonsense offered on the other models. As a side note according to some of Toyotas engineers on as to why the stick has less power its because they can't control how much power goes to the drivetrain components. Which tells me on the auto while its higher rated it doesn't mean a lot if the computer is pulling back on the power. Just my2c.

For $53k those skid plates should be metal. Better value than the Pro? No doubt. But good value overall? No. As keeps being said the whole market is over priced. You can buy trucks in the used market, with low k's, for far less than new.

Too much cost cutting on materials while charging a premium for Toyota and TRD name plates. They’ll sell well off branding alone. I’d rather buy a used last gen or a fully loaded Frontier for less money on either.

Here’s something I’m wondering. If Trump makes good on his Tariff threat, will Canada still get Tacomas tariff free?
I assume they travel through the states to get there. Or do they travel by sea somehow and skip the states?
People complaining about the price now, probably haven’t seen the worst of it yet. 😮

Payload number is respectable considering it came with the ARB accessory from the factory. Anything under 1500lbs is painful though. The bed looks tiny so 1200 might be fine. Plastic skid plates are not good. I actually prefer alum as it's purpose to give before the rest of the permanent truck parts, it's a consumable.
I'm sure I'll be disappointed in the price, but I'll wait until the end to be disappointed. Was pleasantly surprised that the price was not totally outrageous just normal levels of disappointment. Compared to the luxury trucks, it has solid value.
Cameras: I have an F-150 and find have factory 360cameras lacking in clarity and while better than nothing, I'll probably want to add some aftermarket cameras that work at any speed. (ford prevents viewing some cameras at certain speeds)
I like the conversation around value vs bling of high-end baja fast movers was balanced. That 30k savings gives you the liberty to spend on upgrades you actually want.

When pickup trucks start mimicking a childs battery toy version. It's time to stop buying them. What's wrong with metal bumpers? Having a hood that flutters because it's paper thin. $50 to $70K for a vehicle that's half plastic.

I could be wrong, but i think alot of toyota's are made in Mississippi Alabama and Mexico. None of them places are known for quality workers, especially Mississippi, which is consistently the worst in every category in the entire United states. Wonder why there having all sorts of major issues this could be the reason.

Maybe assembled in Mexico but alot of parts are being shipped from all over. Like the engines in the tacoma and tundras are now made in Alabama and are blowing up already.
