#XSAPI #M993 #M995
Per online documentation, the XSAPI is using SiC for the strike face, not B4C.
I know you have talked to Qwe already, but if you do manage to get him some of the pieces of the strike face, we can confirm and tell a lot more about the plate's construction. Excellent video!
@@zadamany9255 Samples were inbound :D
@@BuffRANGE you are the GOAT! Not sure if Qwe sent the ESapi data but if not, just ask him. Super excited to see what comes next!
@@zadamany9255 I did
I have an XSAPI that's .8" thick and weighs 5.3 lbs for a size Medium. Believe it's B4C.
I don't know much about armor but back in 2012 or 2013 I was helping a guy from work clean out a property he owned. The tenant had moved out and left some stuff behind. The tenant was a Marines who served in Iraq and he left behind a ceramic armor plate, no carrier or anything. I can't remember the details exactly but it had markings, expiration date. It said it expired in 2010. I didn't know armor expired at the time. Back then I didn't even know body armor could be ceramic. We were tapping on it with our knuckles trying to figure out what it was made of lol
Body armor doesn't actually expire, at least not in the traditional sense. The reason those expiration dates are there is because micro-fractures can develop over years of constant use. Plate carriers get dropped and bump into stuff quite a bit. There are plenty of videos showing expired plates continuing to stop threats they are rated for well past the expiration date, but the date is put there because the manufacturer can't guarantee it'll uphold it's rating after withstanding abuse for that long. If you keep a plate in controlled, stable conditions it'll be fine.
Very impressed by the plates’ performance and by the fact that you were able to obtain them. Overkill level of protection, in the spirit of “overmatch”.
funny enough they arent actually that rare. the only rarity is finding them at a reasonable price. since they were put in storage by the military all the ones that had been issued had been largely bought up by surplus guys and people looking to resell them. it sucks but it is what life is right now
man.. actual tungsten core tests on an acutal XSAPI plate.. This channel is the only source in the world where we can watch these stuff fricking love your content dude
My pleasure. I come up with questions and feel if I can answer them surely others have the same questions needing answered :D
Seriously.
Your channel is criminally underrated. Keep up the good work!
Thank You!🎉
Really, REALLY excited for the Adept colossus video!
Any chance we'll see a Buffman test of one of the new "rifle resistant" helmets? Doesn't seem to be any on RUclips yet.
I have a KCI and a HHV helmet to test. If there's good turnout in them, logically the next step is these rifle rated ones.
@@BuffRANGEHave you heard of ULBRICHTS?
@@allycatnaranjo8960they advert some high end helmets. Well outside my
Reach. But perhaps they may see the benefits of demos and want to help.
Awesome video. Not enough likes. He’s doing us all a huge favor least we can do is like people. Wish I’d seen his channel before buying some crappy plates
This is the ice cream shop of ammo and armor testing.
Thanks!
Very cool test, excited to see the modern commercially available (claimed) equivalents to the XSAPI tested in the future. Any update on when you plan to test the plates you left outdoors and submerged in water? Very interested to see the results of those being tested.
They'll be at 2 yrs here next month. I really want to hold them until at least 3. Or I imagine someone would find a way to bitch we didn't wait long enough?
Providing great information as usual.
My pleasure!
You shot that plate like bob ross painting a canvas 😂 great test! I wouldn’t mind seeing a green tip test with ballistic gel behind a plate. Or maybe a chunk of clay lol. People seem to be liking green tip more for its ability to go through plates, despite it having some seriously bad real world results. Maybe it would be more effective with a plate in front of it? 🤷♂️
Feed the algorithm for the King of Armor Destruction.
It was mighty hungry today!
I love your stuff man, these videos are extremely educational and probably there are no other channels on RUclips who test ammo and armor as elaborate as you do. However I have a question. Did you shoot both the 7.62 SWISS P AP and .300WM M2APs from the same gun? Did I miss something?
Yes. I typically shoot most .30 caliber rounds from the 300 WM, and I just download/upcharge the bullet depending on what I'm going for. :D
@@BuffRANGE Oooh. So if I understand this correctly, .308, .30-06, and .300WM cartridges have the same bullet and it's just the case that's differently sized? And when you reload a .308 bullet into a .300WM case you load as much powder in it as a normal .308 cartridge would have in it? Also thanks for the quick response!
@@echo4533 Yes many of the 308, 30-06, 300WM 30-378 Weatherby, and even 300 BLK use .308 caliber bullets. The NIJ spec for M2AP calls for 2880 fps and for the most part that's unobtainable from 30-06 or even .308 without going to 26"+ barrels, and then may still be close to max pressure. So with 300 WM, I can download the same bullet to get 2,880 fps, or I can up it's charge and get up to 3,250 fps. With the 196gr Swiss P AP, I could probably get it going 3100 fps, but was downloaded to get to the VPAM 12 spec
Nice work man
They should hire you for field testing prototypes
Thank You! That would be awesome. !
Great stuff!
I'd love to see what kind of penetration you could get with a 993 projectile in 300 Win loaded to max pressure.
I mean 2/3 m993 stops is some great performance when nothing else on the market can stop the round, so hey great tests.
Great work.
Thank you! Cheers!
Good 1 budsz
It seems like I remember the socom plates having issues with cracking due to manufacturing errors from the ~2012 frame
These both had passed inspection stickers on them from recent years.
Thanks!
Thanks !!
FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Edit: is it wrong that I skipped to teardown before watching anything else 👀 😀
Whooo 🔥
Holy crap those are like half the thickness of the ESAPI plates I was issued in the USMC
It would be interesting to shoot 5.45x39 7N39 cartridges with tungsten core. I tested them on Granite 5A plates and they penetrate through the plate from 15 meters
My issue is obtaining the 5.45 here in the states :(
@@BuffRANGE I've already written to you about them. I can send( from Ukraine) bullets for reloading with all the data about gunpowder and its weight.
Have you? I don't honestly recall. I'm not aware of legally being able to have these sent to me.
@@BuffRANGE you just need someone across the pond to ship you some fishing weights 😉
@@sasquatch440 You have old information. I can't post photos of packs and cartridges 5.45ППБС here 🙁
I'm curious if you would test the speed of rounds after passing through metal body armor?
Is that even possible I would be surprised unless you had specific systems for that normal system works off shadow and light or a type of radar
Awesome as always!! Total destruction!
Got any old gen black SAPI to test? Those are all expired now and would be interesting how the hold up..
I don’t. I’m sure someone has some somewhere.
3300 fps m2ap is a doozy, I wonder if you'll have to load the P AP hot to get through the adept and SAS plates.
How did you comment 4 day's ago when this video just came out within the last hour?

I've always wondered how modern ap ammo projectiles would work in the wssm and wsm cartridges loaded hot would do against body armor but nobody has tried yet. Most interested in the 223 wssm
You could do some cool things running 224 bullets that fast!
Where were you able to source these plates? And are there still some available for purchase?
I believe these were from a Reddit sales post. The rest are long gone.
@@BuffRANGE ah dang, any other sources you know of?
@@aaronperkins7152 They show up on GunBroker, or Ebay, or AR15.com EE from time to time.
You can find them, just most people aren't posting publicly about them. Don't pay more than a grand for a set
Wonder if this can stop the new 6.8x51 AP round, which is also some 120-130 gr tungsten round at 3000 FPS.
That's a very good question that I would love to test some day!
I've seen armor that withstands .50BMG, seriously. The energy transfer would still kill you, but at least you wouldn't be transformed into pink mist, whatever that's worth.
Energy transfer is somewhat of a myth. Taking a hit would only result in damage based on penetration, or deformation. Any plate that stops a bullet without penetrating, deformation, or spalling into your neck, will only give you the equal and opposite reaction, energy wise. (The recoil of the gun it was fired from)
@@nolancurtis8826 The problem is that all that energy will be concentrated into *one.single.point* of the bullet which will give off far more pressure to the point hit than the stock of the gun gives to the shoulder of the gunner. Though it's still physically possible to disperse the the energy received through proper trauma plate inserts. It's just that stacking enough of them to disperse the energy of the round would make the armor so heavy and cumbersome it would be impractical to wear as of now.
@@mekingtiger9095 have you ever seen a plate get hit?
@@nolancurtis8826 Unfortunately, I don't live in the US of A with its gun freedom in order to test it for myself, as much as I would love to make ballistic tests. But considering there has multiple cases of people getting shot at with body armor and feeling like a sledgehammer just punched them full force and even some cases of broken ribs, I can't imagine .50 Cal being any easier to endure. It's kinda the same principle of warhammers and blunt weapons bashing against a full plate armored knight on, say, the helmet. Sure, you didn't penetrate, but you didn't have to in order to damage the thing inside... I may be wrong, so correct me in case I messed up.
@@mekingtiger9095 bruises at worst
Need to do an updated video with Rev G ESAPI.
There's a new revision for ESAPIs already?
@@mekingtiger9095 goes up to Rev J currently, and newer GEN III Esapi plates with a more defined shooter's cut being issued
where did you buy this how much did it cost
I believe I paid $400 for it, off a Reddit for sale post awhile back, and bought one from an FFL in Florida who had one.
God I wanna se guard dog body armor m4 Ridgeback done by you everyone else does like loose dirt box as a backer
Maybe someday they'll let me test one. My funds for armor procurement are negative right now.
It's funny how such a common round like XM193 just punches right through any armor.. the speed is scary.. you don't need to have specialty ammo.
And yet M193 here did not penetrate. It's ability is dependent on that armor being made out of steel :)
Fron what I’m seeing my guess is that SMKH 8mm would go through??
I would say a high probability of SMKH smoking this
Seems likely. I sent him some in January, so I know he has it.
@@timewave02012 It's still in his box :D After the performance we saw even at 100, I have a hard time just blasting it against threats. Maybe we can use it on the Adept?
I couldnt believe the power of the smkh that u tested buff, 194 grains at 2947 fps especially for an 80 year old bullet….. insane
@@user-oy9zy4ds9m Has anyone else documented the velocity of SMKH? When I chrono'd SMK I was only getting 2,600~
M993 in 300 win mag would go through almost certainly. Swiss p ap is way too slow
Did you see the video that he did with the Mauser, and the old WW2, W reinforced Pb bullets? The 7.92's were over 190 grains, and still getting close to 3000 FPS! Not only did it completely perforate a level 4 LAPD plate, it went through the steel target behind it as well, and it did so at 100 yards! You better believe the Rush-ins have an assortment of MG 42's with millions of 7.92 x 57 AP rounds at their disposal.
Do you mean slow per spec, or just slow in general? At 196gr I couldn't find any load data to support getting 2,650 fps in .308, and that's why I downloaded it in 300 WM. I have some going 2800 :D
Slow in general
Why are these so impossible to acquire?
Because all of them that were issued were reclaimed and stored in a warehouse. Allegedly anyways because a few sets pop up for sale every now and then.
@@BuffRANGE oh these are duty issued? As per military or police?
@@380master9 These were only issued to US Military troops from my understanding. Then were recalled and stored in warehouse..
@@BuffRANGE Yeah, they were made to stop AP threats that never actually were encountered in the field. So they were called back.
Where the hell do you get the m995!?!?
Collectors have it from time to time..
Is it still a lot easier to find just the pulled bullet v.s loaded rounds?
It's B4C fam.
According to the contracts, they are SiC
It can't be 100% B4C. 100% impossible.
@@evanhutfles4239 Per contract stuff I read it indeed is Sic
@@BuffRANGE You’re right, it has to be. Or atleast a blend with >80% SiC content. Tungsten rounds melt through B4C.
I have me a set of this and I love it
Hard to go wrong with the XSAPI :D
@@BuffRANGE exactly my thoughts man! Thanks for this test and review. Seriously you’re the only person anywhere doing it
