Like I commented on in your last video it comes down to the individual arm. So it's always best to test ammo. Awesome video.

Interesting results. I've seen quite a few of these tests between 223 and 5.56mm and I'm still not really sure how much accuracy is affected. From what I've seen the difference can be so slight it's hard to measure a real difference at 100 yards, or it can be twice or more the group size at 100 yards. I also wonder if some of the ammo marked 5.56 is loaded to 5.56 pressure or if some of it is loaded to 223 pressures as we do occasionally see lower than standard velocity out of some 5.56 loads. We've all heard it's fine to shoot 223 out of a 5.56 gun but the reverse is not recommended. As a manufacturer making a lower cost line of ammo, (Many manufacturers have a few different apparent quality grades) it may be tempting to have the same 223 load in the boxes labeled 223 and also in the boxes labeled 5.56. Maybe these are the ones that show the least difference when tested because those specific loads are actually the same. This is just me wondering out loud. I don't have any actual answers but still have lots of questions
I have to agree. There's very little practical difference. I could probably reshoot this test and get smaller or wider groups at any given moment. I shoot 5.56 and .223 from my AR's based on what is closest to grab when I need to load up. Minute of man is all that really concerns me with these rifles.
@@ToolsandTargets Agreed. If it's just plinking/practice ammo I don't know that there's enough difference inside 100 yards to bother me. If I had an AR that was specifically built for accuracy out past 250 yards to shoot small critters, then I'd spend the time to find what shot best out of it.

you should think about picking up a cheap Spotting Scope I got one at Harbor Freight for like 50 dollars. it is good at well over 100 yds. to let you see where you are hitting. really great if you have a friend shooting with you so you can call every shot for each other and when you are shooting alone like you do it can save you a lot of walking and ammo. Binoculars work too that's what we use to use, but I like the spotting scope much better now that I have one.
Yeah, my binoculars do the job with the shootNsee type targets, but I could definitely use a spotting scope to see hits on stuff like these plates that are harder to see.
If you color in the circle with the Sharpie it's easier to concentrate on at 100yds. If you pick up a bolt gun there are a lot of choices but for the money a Ruger American is hard to beat especially with at least a 16x scope. Tiny holes are hard to see at 100yds. Good comparison of light vs heavy weight.
@@ToolsandTargets Aged eyes cause issues. Up to about age 35 yrs old a 3x9 scope was good then it was 12x to 16x. Now 24x & higher power. Those 22 caliber holes got smaller as I got older. 👀 👓😂
@@ToolsandTargets During your Live you mentioned not having a 92. GOG had ad & good prices on the Girsan Regard/optic & the Taurus/ rebate. Popped up just awhile ago. 👍
My ar15 in 556 does not like most 223 ammo. It's like the round wobbles when it comes out the barrel. They hit the target key holing . 5.56 dead center shots. No key holes. But thanks for video.
Interesting results. Gave me confidence in my choice of .223 as well as the results I’ve gotten with it. The live stream last night into this morning was a home run. The energy in the live chat was great. Your responses and commentary were really well received. Can’t wait to attend another at the Church of Tools & Targets.
My question being new to the AR platform is if a specific rifle is multi caliber like .223 .556 what is the chamber? I would imagine that results would be better using the ammo the gun is chambered in.
Generally speaking, 5.56 and .223 performance and dimensions, out of an AR especially, is practically identical. The average person will never see any meaningful accuracy difference. There are quite a few articles that explain the technical differences between the case dimensions and why they are chambered the way they are.
@@ToolsandTargets interesting. The only reason I asked was because I have a family member that has a mini 14 that had terrible reliability issues using 223 ammo. Must just be a finicky pew.
If you were shooting at a 300 yd target that would be in the penny area. Drop your elevation to 50 meters. My Dope runs a little high on my M&P 15 Sport 2 at 100 yards. Hollow point boat tail doesn’t perform until after 3 to 400 yards. Also could you give some velocity’s and how bullet penetrates at long range. Thanks in advance Shooter.
Hi Tools. My pick was the 69gr. PPU. Before I watched the video. That MPR Tool is very nice, it is a good shooter brother. Interesting, I zero mine at 200yds., puts me at around 1.5" high at 100. 5.56 and .223 have same headspace, 5.56 has longer leade in chamber and generally smaller case capacity due to brass thickness, not much difference in reality. Lots of comparison tests out there, some cartridges in .223 like the slight bullet jump, others like to meet the lands. My 1:8 20" loves the 55 and 68 gr., my 1:9 16" opens the group up 1/2" more at 200. Both have stainless bull barrels with bi-pods. Set up for tiny target varmint shooting. No fun to pack around but the accuracy make it worthwhile. They're liar grade small groups at 200. Scoped with 20 zoomies, Ain't gonna say the average cuz unless you see it, you don't believe it.
Ya I zero at 50 yards that’s usually around the first cross of sight then move out to 100 and then adjust to about 1 inch to 1.5 high but the truth is where I live and hunt 150 yards is it and that’s far for river bottoms so much foliage can’t get clear line of sight out to 200 yds . But on the practice range total different story
Thanks again Bill for the ammo. I still need to get all 8 types 223/556 and do a test in my 24" 1/7 rifle and 16" 1/9 Wylde. My choice 69 too. Thanks Tools

6-8 power should be fine for 100 yds. Not sure if it's the same gun as last time but it's still shooting ok groups but 5" or so high just like last time. Pretty wild how a 50 yd zero changes to 5 or 6 inches high @ 100. That seems like my biggest take from it.

@@ToolsandTargets I noticed with a 50 yard zero the higher targets tend to have a higher POI than if the target was lower. It’s strange but on a bench at 100 yards the lower target always had better groups then the higher ones. Might just be me. Same ammo type.

Just recently tryed it from 200 up to about 500 meters on full sized USPSA/ IDPA maybe 2/3 size... can't tell for sure. BUT i can say i hit them at least 8 times out of 10 if i did my part. Keep the good content coming. Have a good one.
PS: have to try other stuff like 63 / 69 gr or 75 / 77gr in the next Months or so to se what mine like the best.
Thank you sir. The high impacts were from me having it zeroed at 50 yards. I'm definitely gonna be swapping optics on it and trying some more rounds.😎
@@ToolsandTargets oh, well now that makes sense :-D Also recomend the Breek arms warhammer mod2 Charging handle works very well for me. I'll keep you updated on my ammo testing with mine. Have now about 4 -500 isch through it. BTW i really like the ammo Hunting videos & would love to see a .303 brit / lee enfield video in the future? Have a good one and greetings from Austria.
@@patriks_surplus_kitchen5251 Thank you sir. 😎👊
you should think about picking up a cheap Spotting Scope I got one at Harbor Freight for like 50 dollars. it is good at well over 100 yds. to let you see where you are hitting. really great if you have a friend shooting with you so you can call every shot for each other and when you are shooting alone like you do it can save you a lot of walking and ammo. Binoculars work too that's what we use to use, but I like the spotting scope much better now that I have one.
Yeah, my binoculars do the job with the shootNsee type targets, but I could definitely use a spotting scope to see hits on stuff like these plates that are harder to see.
Very informative. Always wondered if there was a difference.
😎👍
If you color in the circle with the Sharpie it's easier to concentrate on at 100yds. If you pick up a bolt gun there are a lot of choices but for the money a Ruger American is hard to beat especially with at least a 16x scope. Tiny holes are hard to see at 100yds. Good comparison of light vs heavy weight.
Definitely gonna be slapping on some more zooms asap!
😎👍
😂
I've not shot anything but ball ammo so far, so I am appreciating these tests.👍
The beauty of a 5.56 AR is there's really no "bad" ammo option.😎👊
@@ToolsandTargets I am starting to realize that.👍😁
Thanks for the test tools, really enjoy the stuff you put out and your livestream was really great. 👍👍
thank you sir. Appreciate you hangin out!
Thank you
Nice rifle round test
Thank you sir.😎
Why wouldn’t you have sighted in the gun at 100 yards first to at least get it on the plate ?
Interesting results. Gave me confidence in my choice of .223 as well as the results I’ve gotten with it. The live stream last night into this morning was a home run. The energy in the live chat was great. Your responses and commentary were really well received. Can’t wait to attend another at the Church of Tools & Targets.
😆😆😆 Appreciate you, brother!
Not the best groupings but still good comparison. Another great video keep them coming
Thank you sir.😎👍
My question being new to the AR platform is if a specific rifle is multi caliber like .223 .556 what is the chamber? I would imagine that results would be better using the ammo the gun is chambered in.
Generally speaking, 5.56 and .223 performance and dimensions, out of an AR especially, is practically identical. The average person will never see any meaningful accuracy difference. There are quite a few articles that explain the technical differences between the case dimensions and why they are chambered the way they are.
@@ToolsandTargets interesting. Have you ever had reliability issues using 223?
@@andrewhart2747 Never
@@ToolsandTargets interesting. The only reason I asked was because I have a family member that has a mini 14 that had terrible reliability issues using 223 ammo. Must just be a finicky pew.
I would like to see the difference between the bolt and semi rifles!
Me too. I'm gonna have to look around and see what I might like.
Do u have a .223 Wylde chambered Ar? I’d like to see both .223 & 5.56 tested with it.
I don't. Mine are all 5.56 chambered.
Roger that. I had this rifle zeroed at 50 from a little while back. I can definitely set up a chrono for these.😎👍
i think this test is heavily dependent if 5.56 is loaded to full pressure spec.
😎👍
Good video my ar favor 60-70 grain. Mine is 1/8 twist thanks for the video.
😎👊
Hi Tools. My pick was the 69gr. PPU. Before I watched the video. That MPR Tool is very nice, it is a good shooter brother. Really like the different bullet weights you are testing that’s a good range of weights. I have a Remington 700BDL in .223 it is a tack driver super accurate and cuts bullet holes. Great video. Keep up the good work and be safe and have a good week.
Thank you sir. There's a 700 SPS Tactical in stock locally, chambered in .308 that I think is gonna be coming home with me soon. I can't resist.😆

@@ToolsandTargetsexile videos monday tru saterday i have a freind who lives on exit 17 Abington va makes steel targets ground zero ballistics. Is that close to you.
😎👍
Ya I zero at 50 yards that’s usually around the first cross of sight then move out to 100 and then adjust to about 1 inch to 1.5 high but the truth is where I live and hunt 150 yards is it and that’s far for river bottoms so much foliage can’t get clear line of sight out to 200 yds . But on the practice range total different story
Thanks again Bill for the ammo. I still need to get all 8 types 223/556 and do a test in my 24" 1/7 rifle and 16" 1/9 Wylde. My choice 69 too. Thanks Tools
The scope on my 24" is 6x24x50. Was affordable. Yup a little more magnification maybe. 16" has Pinty cheap 2x8.

I only send Tools my old ammo that is about to go past the expiration date or is that a Use By date?😂 If we keep him busy he stays out of his wife's kitchen. 👌 👍

your question about last night classic rifle test...i was asking if you could break out the old lever action 73 an 94 models.
Ahhh. I actually don't have any really old lever actions. All my levers are new stuff.
Very nice test Thanks Tools Stay Safe and God Bless 🙏🙏
Thank you sir.
Try a 36 yard zero for the AR. 25-300 yards should be inside 6 inches combined. That 1-8 should be plenty at 100. Maybe just the lighting in the shadows is messing your vision up. Always like the videos. Id go with the 69gr. Have a good one tools.
Thank you sir. My vision just sucks so I buy bigger tv's and scopes to "fix" it.😆😆😆
@@ToolsandTargets Well maybe you need to dig up one of those coffee cans full of cash and buy one of the top tier scopes with perfect glass and tracking and 5-25x or 6-36x magnification. 🤣 Hey, my eyes and ears arent what they used to be. Good glass helps. Not my ears, but you know what i mean. 😆 🤓

I enjoy these comparison tests of different loads. Would like to see more of this kind of test videos.
Absolutely plan to do some more.
Store brand paper plates and a $1 can of spray paint from Lowes will get you through a lot of range sessions. If you want to get fancy about it, buy a box of chalk to go with it.
I gotta be fancy!🎇🕺🎇
6-8 power should be fine for 100 yds. Not sure if it's the same gun as last time but it's still shooting ok groups but 5" or so high just like last time. Pretty wild how a 50 yd zero changes to 5 or 6 inches high @ 100. That seems like my biggest take from it.
Yep. Definitely makes a big difference.
Another great video Brotha ..
Appreciate you!😎👊
Before watching, I think the 69gr PPU will win it. From the results the last time that 1/8 twist did great with the 68gr Frontier.
😎👍
I like the 223 wylde in 1in 8 seems to be the sweet spot for me

I love my MPR , there isn't a more accurate rifle.
It really is a super nice shooter.

Whew be hard to see that for sure! lol! Can that scope adjust focus? Sure be hard to see that small circle in the shade no doubt! Good groups for shooting blind haha! I am learning AR stuff! I would be happy with that! Have a good one!
Yeah, it has a focus adjustment but that aint enough at 8X to compensate for my crappy vision.😆😆😆
I see you using those ear buds...are those the same ones you have a link for down below? an do they really work, i ask because i was a sonar operator on planes back during the cold war. lots of time spent in that tube, then a carrier tour too. so i have some hearing loss, an i have to protect whats left.
Yessir, it's the same ones. These things are incredibly nice. I couldn't live without them at this point for shooting. It suppresses sound from anything I've used them with so far, even with big obnoxious brakes like the X Frames.
Dang to bad I wasn't closer I have a Ruger predator in 223 you could use good video as always.👍🤙
Nice, Thank you sir!
It’s good to see you shoot an AR .It makes sense if you zeroed at 50 but for 223 in my opinion was decent for a 100 yards my 1:7 twist is similar with 223
Yeah, they were all well within minute of man.😎👍

Great video Tools be safe and GOD BLESS y’all buddy Amen 🙏

Good video Tools. I noticed the note you threw up on the screen about the zeroing being at 50 yrds so the groups at 100 yards under those conditions were respectable. You might get a few sheets of those round orange stickers to make it easier to see the circles at distance. I've seen you shot enough to know you can shoot just fine. Again thank you for all you do, the planning, the time & effort to set up the equipment, the filming and then the editing.
Be safe, be vigilant and have a great week.
Appreciate that, brother!😎👊
👍😊🎯 there a little high but my rifle hits high at a 100 tho I know it does to work out right with the 200+ trajectory in my scope.
Yeah, I actually zeroed this at 50 a while back on the other side of my range when I first got it I need to rezero at 100.
@@ToolsandTargets there always a 3.5 to 4” rise and fall till it’s all fall.

we gonna see any rifle/shotgun jelly tests?? home defense vs hunting distances with some rifle soft points would be interesting to see.
Definitely. I have quite a few defensive type rifle rounds in different calibers. I've got a shotgun one that I gotta get done this week too.😎👍
lol..yeah a 50 yd. zero could make a little bit of a difference at 100 yds. still not real bad groups..the 77 gr. kinda surprised me i didn't think they would goup that well...this was a good test and yes i'd be interested in knowing what a true 223 would group as compared to the 556..oh yeah ..great to see you back on a live chat last nite..been too long

I am sure you, that rifle & most of these offerings are much better than this particular range day. Thank you.
But a good 223 bolt would be a good tool to have in the box.
Definitely.😎👍
I was going to suggest a comparison with these same rounds using a .223 chambered barrel prior to you mentioning it at the end. Would be very interesting to see those results... thanks brother!
😎👍
I think the main differnce is just pressure and velocity
Slight chamber dimension differences, but not a whole lot.
@@ToolsandTargets I'm not good enough of a shot to notice a differnce I guess. I shoot my 22 AR cause 223 is insane rigjt now

@@ToolsandTargets I noticed with a 50 yard zero the higher targets tend to have a higher POI than if the target was lower. It’s strange but on a bench at 100 yards the lower target always had better groups then the higher ones. Might just be me. Same ammo type.
