I went to natural flea treatment 3yrs ago quite successfully.
We live in TX & it had just warmed up. My husband treats the yard regularly but hadn't started yet since winter.
It was a super rainy week & we waited for a break in the weather to wash the dog & treat the yard. I have been on top of cleaning & all the things because my dog & I are both allergic to flea bites. I will get 20 bites & my husband has none😑 One beautiful afternoon, my dog spent a few hours outside; I had been spraying regularly & spraying +brushing him. I forgot about diatomaceous earth & the situation blew up. You MUST treat the carpets & do ALL the things or you will never be rid of them. It's like groundhog day- EVERY day is spring cleaning. My house is super clean. Stepped up my game today with diatomaceous earth. Seems to control it pretty quickly. I bathed the dog while my hubby did the yard... Im somewhere between - cut off my feet or burn down the house; neither are good options. Seems to be improving thsnk God😇

Love the fact that there are people out there that care for ALL pets and share the information. Thank you for that. I stopped years ago using common flea and tick medicines.
I used diatomaceous earth as well, for years now, and it works really good, with no side effects.

I live in the country, and during the summer, fleas are relentless! I have an elderly dog with kidney disease, so she gets a monthly topical that takes care of fleas, heart worms, and all the other worms. My Boston Terrier pup gets Simparica Trio. I hate the thought of chemicals on them or in them, but I gotta admit the treatments are highly effective. When I was trying natural and holistic methods, my dogs were in misery being ambushed by fleas. I’m scared to take them off of something that is working so well.

A friend of mine has 2 mini doodles. She told me the cost of their yearly check up. Over 900$! The main cost? The pill for fleas ticks and heart worms. Being a dog owner for decades I have never bought heart worm/flea/ tick pills or spent that much money at the vet. I am guilty of using the topical stuff and am now going all natural on what I use. Thanks for the info. 😊

Hey Rachel! So I'm here in Texas. Where the weather is weird as you well know since you lived in Austin. I was using wondercide but my pup ended up having tapeworms each month so I felt like I was forced to start using advantage II... I felt so guilty! I literally cried putting it on her. With that being said, I'm happy that I found this video. I am going to order kin and kind and use that all 12 months and the advantage II topical during our flea active months. Thanks for all that you do for us pet parents!
Oh have you ever used four-legger in between bath sprays? There is a lemongrass and a lavender... Since those are natural pest repellents, i was wondering if I could also have those in rotation?

Thanks so much for this video! I will be watching over and over. My childhood dog had ticks all the time and lived a long healthy life... so it didn't completely freak me out. However, decades later I had a dog of my own and (my best friend choc lab) Puddle, had such a heartbreaking quick decline - she had a little less appetite one week, but still full of energy and joy. Routine vet check and we found out her entire system was failing due to lymes disease (it was a specific kind that is the most deadly. I forgot the name of it now). About 2 weeks later she passed away at only 4 y/o 😭😭😭 I still feel so guilty... but we DID use tick collars, though it terrified me because of the risks, I also used natural sprays and SO MUCH and yet it all did NOTHING! We now have her little sister, Dory, I am terrified of her getting lymes TOO, but also scared of the risks of putting chemicals all over her (esp since they didn't help Puddle anyway 😢). So basically saying I'm desperate for whatever I can do to keep my baby alive FOREVER (lol or as close to that as possible!) you definitely highlighted some extra things in this that I haven't tried, so here's to hoping and praying our evil Long Island ticks don't end my Dory's life like they did her sister 😭

It’s all about risk over benefit. Your dog died very young because of Lyme disease and you live in a high incidence area. Do you want to risk your dog’s life, or use preventive measures that might have some side effects, but it’s proven not to kill your dog by the age of 4, or very possibly sooner. Or walk the dog only on asphalt, don’t let it step on areas with tall grass, or bushes. Ever…

A word of caution our std poodle is allergic to the Rosemary ingredient; I avoid all treats with Rosemary in them. She actually gets seizures!! We've never noticed dry skin or loss of hair with frequent baths, and again I only do their butts, it takes about 5 minutes or less. Occasionally we sprinkle DE or all natural flea spray, the summers are the hardest.

Thank you for this info. I am having such a hard time with fleas in FL this year especially. I really don't want to give her the standard tick and flea prevention. I had a friend with a doodle who ended up giving that dog a lifetime of seizures. My dog does have the little amber neckless that my holistic vet recommended as one part of prevention but I'm not really sure how well it works. It is pretty though and people comment on it. I've bought so many sprays - Wondercide and Scout's Honor...they are nice products for sure and if I see a flea and spray it right on it, the flea does die and it does work but just spraying it on her before we go out doesn't seem to work to keep them off. I'm going to try Kin and Kind.

How long have you had her? From what I’ve researched if you just got her and she’s still getting comfortable then yes that’s normal. You also could try feeding a little less 4 times a day. It’s recommended to feed puppies younger than 6 months 4 times a day, then 3 times after 6 months and I think you can go down to 2 after a year. I don’t have a lot of experience but from the research I’ve done that’s what everyone says. Hope I helped if not I’m sorry!

You don't have to buy any of that stuff.. whenever you give you dog a bath just use your shapoo of preference, and do 50/50 shampoo and apple sider vinegar.
    Also make your own spray
Just boil in low heat 1 lime juice and a handful of thyme.
Once tou see the oils in the water let it cool. Add to a spray bottle 50/50 with apple sider vinegar. Spray that as a repellant....keeps your dogs coat nice and shiny too

I’ve been using frontline for a year and a half for my now 2 yo labradoodle. It stopped working and we’ve had a flea problem for a month now. The vet prescribed simparica trio. I’m reluctant to give it to him after reading all the warnings and opinions. Most reviews are good though. How do you feel about this product? Thanks.

Did anyone else dog start to have behavior changes. My Aussie was sweet and got along with other dogs. We hike a lot so my vet recommended Nexguard. She started getting more aggressive im kinda worried i ruined her now. PS we train everyday and exercise a lot it really was after she started taking the medicine

My teacher's dog died from ehrlichiosis a few months ago, and since then I have feared for my own pet's safety against fleas and ticks. I'm guilty of using some of the products that you called pesticides because I'm so scared of my baby catching them. I live in a tropical country and these pests are indeed very common in our location. I definitely would keep your tips in mind and find products that are safer and more natural.
Can you please give advice on how to prevent heartworms. My pet just started his monthly heartworm preventatives and I'm currently using a chewable tablet which is very popular, the brand's name is Heartguard just so you would know. Being in a tropical country is really a struggle because mosquitoes are also very common. I hope that you would touch upon this topic because it isn't a very common one.
PS. I love your videos they're very educational. 💕

D.E.(diatomaceous earth) is a very fine and sharp particulate that can cause respiratory issues, damage tissue if inhaled, and irritate the nose and mouth. It is a great natural defense for outside, in areas where your pets won't be sniffing around. It is not a good idea to sprinkle D.E. in your floor or dog's bed. My job requires me to wear gloves and a respirator at work whenever we work with D.E.
