Right? So how are you gonna fault someone who's doing just that? It's the secrecy and denial that irks people the most, I think.
Also, we all do things for attention. Are you gonna fault every actor, painter, writer, comedian, singer, musician, etc. too for sharing their work with the public? I don't mean this as a jab at you. But I worked with a narc, and the thing that was most infuriating was that he would act as if he was a genius when he didn't have any idea what he was talking about. So all day long was like having to filter through his tidal wave of confusion. But at the same time he was and arrogant and would brag about all this stuff that wasn't true.

What really annoys me in narcissists is bragging. I’ve heard: I have great legs (while their legs were exceptionally big - delusion…) or I have a great personality, etc. One of my “girlfriends ” was constantly having conflicts at work with people. She was describing the situations to me and thought they were picking on her because they were jealous. In fact she was just bragging how good she was and that she topped everybody at work. Hearing that constantly I’ve finally told her that people attack her because people do not like people who brag. She had enough conscience to take was I said into consideration. She stopped bragging and in her current job she doesn’t have any conflicts with people. With a little bit of awareness narcissism can be at least controlled.

I don’t mean this as a jab at you, but.. In all likelihood, that’s probably not a Narcissist. Just saying.. 🤷‍♂️ NPD is relatively rare. This is just factual. So.. Let me put this into perspective for you.. Out of every.. 200 people you know.. Only 1 of them will be a pathological Narcissist. Just 1 ☝🏼
Do you know 200 people on a personal level? I would be surprised if you did. Regardless, even if it were 1 in 25, which it’s not, I can’t imagine a pathological Narcissist doing what you just described, for various reasons. I’ll list off the first thing that came to my mind.
Narcissists are, believe it or not, quite intelligent. Extreme perfectionism is one of the core features of NPD. Of course.. Not all Narcissists are “know-it-alls”, but I’d be surprised to meet one who wasn’t. The point is, how can one be intellectually superior or a misunderstood genius if there’s nothing to back it up with?
Look. Narcissists may be delusional and grandiose, but they’re not oblivious or completely lacking in awareness. Idk how to make you understand. 🤔 Hmm. So.. Being looked at like you’re an idiot, being corrected, criticized, laughed at, or mocked for making a mistake or saying something incorrect.. Fucks a Narcissist’s sense of self worth up.
Imagine the one thing you’re most insecure about. Now imagine you told someone in confidence about that deep seated insecurity.. Now imagine how you’d feel if that same person tells a group of people about your insecurity, in front of you, then they start laughing at you and mocking you. That’s how a Narcissist feels about EVERYTHING.
Who they are as a person, their looks, their style, their laugh, their voice, their personality, their intelligence, their ability to speak well, their work performance, their ability to be a good listener, a good friend and lover, their taste in music, they’re uniqueness, their wide range of abilities and being a pro at all of them, etc etc etc.
That’s why Narcissists are sensitive to criticism, slights and insults. They fear failure, fear being exposed as an imperfect human being, as merely a man, a mortal, a fragile, feeble creature just like everyone else. I simply cannot imagine a Narcissist who behaves the way you described 😆 That’s just asking to be publicly humiliated!
That’s one of Narcissist’s deepest fears. Humiliation in front of his peers? That’s worse than death. Lol. It’s excruciating and makes you want to run away from the situation, go home and crawl under your bed and fall to pieces in the darkness so nobody can see you. The shame would be so bad that you may isolate for days or weeks or months or years if it was bad enough.
So, why in the hell would a Narcissist continually put themselves in that situation over and over by actually being dumb, but then lying and making stuff to pretend to be a genius? 🤷‍♂️ Make it make sense, dude. Narcissists feel they need to be perfect, so they can feel worth.. anything.
They’re afraid if they reveal flaws, imperfections, make a mistake, embarrass themselves, or show any signs of humanity at all. Hell, if they even walk down an isle in the store in any way, other than with the ethereal flow and majestic grace of a cat- then they’re a failure, worthless and incompetent.
I swear.. I have spent more time concerned with the way I fucking walk, talk, move around, how I stand and how I operate this body of mine to be in a way that’s like poetry in motion and flowing with exquisite beauty. 😂 It’s a nightmare feeling that visceral need to be perfect ALL THE TIME. I hate it.
That’s just with how I move around, dude. Now we’re talking about being smart, knowing everything, being able to do everything and do it masterfully? Come on, man. Show me a dumb Narcissist and I’ll show you an uncoordinated professional athlete 😆

Narcissistic abuse is absolutely awful but what i've learned from exploring deeply my own life coming from not 1, but 2 narcissist parents is you actually have an immense amount of influence on the abuse. The main problem with having parents that are abusive/narcissistic is you can spend your whole life not knowing you even are being abused because that's just the normal way of being for you since birth. Once you actually identify it and learn more about it, your biggest goal is to get a point where you literally could give 2 sh!ts about your parents opinions of validation. You accept you will never be good enough for them, and you simply dont care. Guilt, shame and those tactics literally don't matter or work anymore, and indifference will eventually make them not want to put in the effort required with you. They will provoke you, antagonize you and do anything in their power to get on your nerves. Just calmy give as little emotional response/care to them, and they will soon just give up trying to engage you. Get to the point where you adopt your own way of living, your own standards, and you do what's best for you. It gets really difficult if you are forced into a position of dependance whether financial, or kids are involved as they will always try to belittle you, and brain wash everyone including your children that you were the crazy one/the problem while having the kids think they are the amazing one. Stay strong everyone!

As a practicing Buddhist I tell you … learn that we all suffer in our lives. Accept that nothing is perfect, including yourself. Learn to accept your shame, it’s not your fault, it should have been your parents job to show you meaningful love and affection. Find a great therapist specialized in Trauma Experience and rediscover the past and learn much better compensation strategies for your Trauma… you are still young, do it before you age… with age your NP compensation strategy will fail, and you will fall in a deep depression whole. Again, it’s not your fault, newest science shows NPD is caused by traumatic childhood experiences. Good Luck

Thank you for making this content. I was diagnosed with BPD (& 4 comorbidities that aren't personality disorders). The BPD and bipolar 2 were the most recent. I'm in my mid-40's. Deep into DBT over a year later and my behavior is improving. The way I view myself is changing. The way I experience emotions is extremely intense, including emotional empathy, to a visceral level that can make me physically ill if, say, I hear about animal abuse. But my empathy gets super dull when I'm triggered and I self protect with rage. Without that self protective rage, I may not have made it out of childhood with ANY emotional empathy because rage made me a more difficult target for abuse because I would tell. Loudly and angrily. My sibling was quiet. He ended up with the brunt of it. I was neglected/ignored instead. That also contributed to the BPD, I'm sure.
There are reasons we are like this. Once we are self aware, much like an addict, its very very difficult to unknow. One must be adept at clinical repression and that's a skill that most of us don't possess. So, we start looking for answers. Some of us already know our behavior is unacceptable but for the life of us the only way to keep it away from others it to self isolate. That isn't healthy either. If we get the right diagnosis and start DBT, we can not only take accountability, we can change enough to interact with people in a healthy, "effective," way. We can get our needs met without being mean or abusive. It's possible and it happens. The longer I'm in therapy, the more I become aware of. It's very painful but it's worth it. I don't want to cause suffering. Ever. I do. I am human. I won't stop trying to be better and do better.
I think having this information out there will help a lot of people. Therapy is really for everyone anyway. I mean, who tf is really thriving in this world rn anyway?

    • @weaviejeebies
      @weaviejeebies 3 месяца назад +2

Absolutely no one is thriving rn and I think it's very much a cause of so much PD and relationship agony appearing in our society since the 70s/80s. I think generational trauma is radiating down the timeline and as social pressure increases, people who never had a chance to develop as they should have, to experience real love and safety as children are hit with a barrage of things they struggle to cope with and don't even understand why they can't. We're seeing greater and greater numbers of traumatized kids becoming parents who traumatize their kids and not even really know why they're doing it...or in some people's cases, not even noticing what they're doing. 🙏 keep doing the work, and know you're one of many on the path, appreciated by others even if not directly known to them.

I've never seen somebody with NPD have antisocial personality disorder and I've never seen somebody with both of these disorders especially if they were together present. This way. I'm not saying anything one way or the other because anything is possible but typically antisocial personality disorder which is commonly referred to as a sociopath or a psychopath would not have the emotional awareness or ability to feel injured by other people. hi, you have an emotional bond with your parents, who taught you to live only in the ego and to be their "emotional slave"... that's why you see everything "wrong" because you can't trust your conscience/feelings.. .. be sure empaths also have the same wounds, they are just the other side of the coin, empaths give themselves up to heal others and narcissists only think about themselves... there is the core of unworthiness and complex not good in both Being with toxic parents you don't know what validation, happiness or love is... try to understand the toxicity of your parents/environment and then think about your self-worth and feelings - it will get better, even if it hurts at the beginning Admitting to yourself that you are an asshole and that other people also have value... try to calmly explain your feelings by talking to yourself, what you can say, you understand! Every person is unique and valuable, you are brave, but your parents were in your situation as children and switched off their feelings... it is therefore an "ancestral theme" and "inherited".

To this I would say become a little more informed before passing judgement on this young girl, who has clearly been through hell. Empaths are not the other side of the coin. They may be related to HSP, but everyone thinks they’re an empath or hsp these days. And everyone thinks all the bad people are narcissists. These are clinical terms. Borderline and NPD both are cluster b personalities, and they both result from serious trauma, so you’re basically blaming her for having a form of ptsd. The way hers developed is simply a protection/defense mechanism, that she HAD NO SAY IN as it developed probably around 7 or 8 years old, and she doesn’t perceive from her end what those on the receiving end are perceiving. I am BPD, and have out of necessity studied into this extensively, and I’m really tired of all the crap online about this stuff. I personally am very grateful to hear her perspective especially in trying to navigate a marriage to someone who is NPD.

There is one thing that I cannot stand in narcissists is bragging and that everything is about them, little me me me thing. Narcissists are actually adult children. They have an adult body but their thinking or doing is typical of a child. Children think that the whole world revolves around them. They demand attention. I have High Functioning ASD. AVPD and DPD and have been stuck in self isolation for over 15 years. Having a midlife crisis I am trying to push forward with my music, no professional replies yet but I was offered a voluntary teaching role for songwriting and singing classes for other adults with autism - I got as far as my front door, stared at it, spend 10-15 minutes telling myself to go to the creative classes, then turned around and went back to bed instead. The only way I could ever progress is if I actually managed to get physical conservatorship from support workers, and good luck ever being able to get or afford that :(
My brother and dad both have NPD - disguised under their 'religious mask' - we do this because of our religion mode. They refuse help and refuse to accept any time they are wrong, then again they have no clue that they have it. I left my family some 5 years ago and dropped all contact with them, but now I am simply stuck in own small house with no idea how to improve myself.

I say this now - I wouldn't actually mind dating or just being friends with a diagnosed and self aware person with any of NPD / SPD / PDP so long as they have not committed crimes before and are willing and working towards self improvement. They are the people who would be more than happy to offer me the level of control and support I require, I would be more than willing to help them notice any of their toxic behaviours for them to improve upon. But good luck again to ever finding anything like this.

Actually, I'd say you've made significant progress. My father has NPD/ASPD. First, I agree with everything you report as the shitty parts, I've seen my father experience and react to the same exact things, but he wouldn't be able to face a camera and talk about them point blank. Not ever. The barest reference that something might be wrong with Dad or that Dad might be emotionally suffering was absolutely taboo for everyone in the house to the point of it being a safety issue. I also want to point out how you referenced the unreasonable expectations causing anger with self and others. If we responded to Dad's ( a least his super obvious) attempts at manipulation to get supply in the correct way, he was fine with it. But if we did it in a way that even slightly implied we felt bad for him that he had a problem with huge needs for attention, it caused a meltdown because he wasn't in control of the situation or the collective narrative about him, and not having that control meant he was weak. Suddenly, us acting that way became, in his mind, not our genuine concern, but mocking or criticism, and hell no, was he ever going be weak, be joked about or pitied. Just the fact that you are telling it all in a way I that so correctly describes what I have seen someone else go through suggests so much insight on your part that you couldn't have gotten without that deep reflection about motivations and patterns. It takes a lot of work to get there, and I respect that a lot. My father will never do it, not in a million years, it's too hard and too painful.

This is true for a few but it’s incredibly disrespectful to speak in the manner so blanketed. I know too many narcissist who have nothing to do with coming from an abused childhood… they were simply born narcissist. And it does no justice for the narcissist that their environment created their personality disorder.
Narcissists are born as narcissists and you can see them as children if you have a discernment. Not everyone can see it but many of us can, which is how I know that you’re born with it. Not to mention, many come from very supportive healthy environments but worked hard to destroy those very healthy environments they come from.
They are often highly talented and or gifted but can be quite nightmares as children who worked hard turning happy homes upside down. They are often the polarizing person in the family and they terrorize their family members physically and emotionally. Not the other way around, unless their family are ones as well.
So we need to stop with this excuse because it makes “full accountability”that much impossible…this is just who they are as people and they were born this way.

    So, this video.
Is it to inform the public or is it due to your ego/npd? I find narcissists that make videos about it super interesting.
