@@sandyelliott3350 actually not true according to robert crays drummer. Clapton went on the Chopper he was supposed to be on. There was no reason to play musical seats as he already had a different chopper with his band. A seat became available on the bell jet helicopter booked for management and associates. It just turned out unfortunately that there was an extra seat. The story of the Clapton/ Vaughan seat exchange just somebody trying to rewrite the Ritchie Valens/ Waylon Jennings tragic event of the Buddy Holly plane crash. Regardless Stevie's death as well as everybody on that helicopter was tragic especially as it was pilot error and not mechanical failure!!

I'm spoiled - I was lucky enough to see Stevie Ray dozens of times as he rose in prominence when I was living in Austin in the 70s and 80s. I moved to Dallas in 1988 and this 1989 Labor Day weekend event was the last SRV performance I ever saw. I got some killer stills from this show, one which is in permanent exhbition as part of the Austin Music Project at the Wyndham Garden Hotel in Austin.

Chuck Flores Do you have a website or somewhere online where you have some of your SRV photography posted? It also sounds like you have some amazing personal experiences - do you have any cool stories, especially from early in Stevie's career, that you would feel like sharing? I would love to hear any personal experience stories or see any photographs that you wanted to share, it just sounds like because you were able to attend so many SRV shows, and from all different points in his career, I bet you have some amazing stories and pics. Have a Great Day!

I was there, one of the very last concerts I attended. Times were changing and concert officials had begun implementing new rules, stay in your seats, don't have too good of a time and get out of here after the show. Hell, that's when we used to meet all the artist. Gone were the days of love and peace at a concert and in came Father Rules. Dont stay here overnight and play guitar with whomever walked up. Go Home and leave this place tonite or go to jail! Good Times down the drain!
We could still do crazy shit in Austin and hang out with whomever was playing but Dallas had turned against us hippies. Now, Austin has turned into another Big D and none of the groove remains. What was a natural eden is now paved over. Bye Bye my land of youth!

Totally agree. That's why many Austin based musicians have left and are leaving like they left Nashville years ago. No telling where the next big American music Mecca will be. If there is another one.

Brings back a lot of great memories. I was a student in Austin when SRV, the T-Birds and Eric Johnson were still playing the local clubs. Saw Stevie at Manor Downs when Johnny Cash opened for him. Great show. When he straightened himself out he improved as a guitar player and vocalist. Thanks for the upload!
