Never in my life have I heard someone call it aluminum paper
He's french, that's why.
Well idk y he reparing the pipe like it was a Chevy truck
@@markproud8989I've always called it tin foil since i was little because it's what my family always called it. It blew my mind when I figured out it was made out of aluminum, then blew my mind again when i figured out that my family called it tin foil because they were old enough that it actually used to be made of tin instead of aluminum
I moved to Illinois and a lot call it that unfortunately
most spanish, and portuguese speaking countries call it that.
Get a fire blanket, don't use aluminum foil. You can burn right through foil if the flame touches it (notice how he put the flame to the wood in the first clip but didn't touch it to the foil in the second?) Also, don't erase the writing on the valve handle, it sometimes contains the valve ratings or certifications. Just hang a tag on the handle to label it.
This... the rest were good tips but that one is dumb and possibly dangerous.
cant you just pee on the surround wall so it doesn't burn?
@@Pepe-dq2ib pee would be better than aluminum foil.
Yeah I noticed that what a loser this guy is
@@Pepe-dq2ib WATER WATER WATER. Why would you use pee on customer’s property?
My boss caught me heating my lunch 🍱 with his torch, I am a carpenter now.
😂
Plumbing 45 + never tried the C-clamp. Good one!
I'm surprised after plumbing for more than 45 years the last thing you would want to watch on RUclips is something about plumbing LOL
@@UrMomGoes2College It just pops up in my feed, just fun seeing what other plumbers do compared to the old school way of doing things I was taught. I don’t use plastic straps.
@@UrMomGoes2College I know, lol.
@@UrMomGoes2College you can never stop learning anything or getting better tips once you start thinking you know it all things go bad
@@1200sbeemer tell em og
3/3 for acutal helpul tips. That nail clip one is brilliant!
Glad it was helpful!
Actually knew the first tip but we don’t use a C clamp. We have a guy at work we call clamp or Larry(don’t ask where Larry came from when he does something we’re proud of we say in a country accent oh that’s a bad Larry) but anyways I shit you not this guy uses a pry bar and some ancient leverage technique to get new work boxes in renovations we’re doing in between studs. Truly is a miraculous feat to see.
Sweet!!!
Lever the studs apart and they’ll spring back & hold whatever box you want holding.
Sharpies fade off of valve handles. Paint markers are probably better.
Good point ;)
Some great ideas that i didn't know about.
I’ve been doing the foil paper trick for years that’s a oldie but goodie
I loved watching your video it's educational and I learn new things. Thank you .
Heee hawww 😇😇😇
I used the clamp technique 40 years ago. I also used an opened out bean can to stop soldering flame burning timbers.
Brilliant
I like the way you think.
Great tips I thought I’ve done it all plumbing 30 plus years. You showed this old dog a few new tips.
I came on to basically say the same thing 🤝
I like the primer idea!
Now that's thinking with your dipstick Jimmy!
the first one is amazing
Just awesome 😎
That last one was worth the watch
some pretty good tips actually
Most of the time my old-house projects figure to not allow space for even a C-clamp : (
But I get the clamp-nailing when there's room. Thumbs up!
Never heard of any of these tips. Salute to you! Granted, I’m no plumber, but still.
Another great video...Thanks!!
I actually knew this one; i use it all the time but for repairing framing when remodeling
Love your videos
😇😇😇
Or… pull the nail out of the clip and replace it with a properly sized screw… also, I’ve used large Channel Lock pliers (fixed jaw on stud) to apply the same principle.
2 great alternatives, thank you :)
If you can't get a hammer head into the location a screwdriver and drill ain't fitting either. I do the channel lock think it more often just use them as a hammer sense they so slim.
The real question is do you call those black clips: Talons or Snailers?
The C-Clamp was nice
Some usefull information for a change
Glad you liked it
Clamp trick is bomb
🧨🧨🧨
"Aluminum Paper"... LOL... used to wrap up your oreo crackers.
I like that last tip
As a new construction plumber, I got a piece of hardy panel a while back, and I use that. For a heat shield
For the first one, I use a pair of channel locks. They're more convenient since they're in my bag already
I actually did know this one tbh but is a great idea! Someone on site years ago showed me
I've used flat bars, linesman's pliers, but mostly a pair of channel lock pliers. And it's ALWAYS a good idea to keep a spray bottle of water handy when you're going to use a torch near wood. Even a plastic drink bottle with a small hole drilled in the cap.
Thank you.
You're welcome!
I new this one…for years
Asbestos blanket works well when soldering near flammable things👌
Finally. Some tips that make things easier
Glad to hear that!!!
Watching these videos makes me want to be a plumber. SIKE!!
Go for it!
You make fun but tradesmen are more important than you.
Respect the trade mutha fukka. Without us you would be living in cave. We make the bed you sleep in shoes you wear the shower you wash with if you do wash.
Three good tips!! I already know the second one; but the other two are new. You can wet the wood a little with a spray bottle too .
In reality you know when you’re at the main shut off no one has the label main shut off I don’t see how is that a good tip that’s fine for the other valves
Cool hints. Thanx.just subscribed
Thanks for the sub!
I use big channel lock to squeeze nails in instead of c-clamp
I like all 3.
Wow I’ve been in this situation soooo many times and this would have helped immensely.
🍻👍
I find the best thing to put behind pipes when I'm soldering is dry kindling and loads of oak shavings. It deflects the flames beautifully
😆
Not lying…. Knew all those but the last one. In fact I think everyone on RUclips knows the first two! 🤣
But that third one made it worth watching. 👍🏽
Good tips 🙂
🙏😇🙏
That clear primer trick is the bees knees
Good ideas & thank you.
Glad you like them!!
I like the trick with the tin foil, I've seen similar tricks to that one. As far as the pipe clip goes, I find it easier to just replace the nail with a screw and using a right angle adapter for my screw gun.
And I did know about the c-clamp trick🤣
But the labeling the valve - cool! 🥰
😁
Great tips! I've don't the aluminum foil trick, the other two I will remember! 👍
Glad it was helpful!
I'd be lying? The force is strong with this world class genius
And some code is some ridiculous areas frown upon removing that label on levers. Believe it or not, some folks need to see "open/close"
Awesome tips mon ami 👍👍🍻
Thanks
You're welcome 😊
Never thought of any of these 😂 great tips!
🤜🤛
I did know the clamp tip from Tool Tips but I didn’t know the other two.
The C Clamp one is clutch!
🤘
I knew the first one. A retired military plumber I worked with had the absolute best tips never taught in A school....
Not lying, I knew this one and many more.
Great tips, thanx
Nice ❤
C clamp trick I knew about I used to do it with electronic boxes in tight places
Niceeeee! 🤘
I did the aluminum foil a while back. Folded it at least four times. Burned through it with propane but did what I needed it to.
Nice
Palm nailers are the best for pex clips
The C clamp is fcking genius
😏
you guys need right angle impact adapters. alot easier than busting a clamp out for one screw.
I'm not a plumber but this info is 💰
🤜🤛😎
Nice tips ❤
Interesting tips hmm
Great advice
100% pure silicone pot holder works great as a fire blanket. I like the clamp idea
I have used smooth jaw channel locks several times to put clips on piping and I am not lying. So there.
Be careful removing the label on anything that's gas related in Canada it will be red tagged and you will have to replace the entire valve.
The pvc handle cover often slides off the valve type pictured in the video, you can slip it off, flip it over, and write on the blank side instead.
@@correcthoarsebatterystaple That's a good one I never thought of. I have a labeler I just usually label it. Or we have the number tags with the chart
@@Irvingstine just checked my water shutoff valve that is the lever type, the pvc/plastic handle cover is probably too brittle to pull off now, but maybe on a new valve…. There is an eyelet for a tag anyways
@@correcthoarsebatterystaple I just know in Canada they give you a really hard time on any type of ball valve that's outdoors especially. If it is missing the tag on it. It has to be changed out. It has to be a approved outdoor valve. Basically the handles won't rust.
They might also with plumbing when you're certifying the job.
The easiest way to label a value if it's clean copper, you can write on the pipe with the same marker. Skip the primer. You can sometimes slide the rubber off the handle and put it back upside down. Also easier than using the primer. Another way easier than primer is masking tape. I also have multiple colors of electrical tape for labeling electrical connections in a junction box but masking tape is good to have and it's not expensive. Get a 1 inch or 1.5 inch roll of blue and one that's plain light brown. The regular masking tape is permanent after a week or so. Blue tape is removable for a few weeks or a few months so it's better for temporary labels.
Most solvents will be strong enough to remove the lettering from the pvc valve handles. Automotive brake cleaner and starting fluid will be cheaper and less messy than pvc primer, but equally effective.
I use a channel lock for the first one.
Or a big pair of chanel locks
You can use hardiebacker when soldering close to wood frame, do the same job as those expensive blankets
Spray water behind the pipe and keep it a little damp. When does you can lightly wave around your little blue flame over the area and boil most of the water off without damaging anything. This is how I clean very tough substances and things like wax off hardwood floors
I was all setup to sweat my shower plumbing. Then I discovered I needed to shift it all 3 inches to one side. I dismantled it and switched everything over to PEX.
Aim the talon at an 45°. Send it home. Last hit will be with the handle to the side of the talon to straighten it out. Plumber here and this is how we do it. Way faster than busting out a c-clamp
You can use pliers in some situations Instead of the C clamp
I tell you this... never have a c clamp in the box but my channels have come in handy for the same thing.
Nice 👌
I use a scrap piece of round duct as a shield for my torch. It’s bendable as needed.
Another great video 😊
Thank you 🤗
Thank you, don't forget to share, it really helps the channel!
Also turn hammer sideways and hit with the flattest part sometimes works if only 6-8”
Great tip!
Get a spray bottle of water and soak any dry wood at risk of igniting near where you are sweating.
Wow you were fascinated by the fact that they allowed you to erase their print good on you
I use old flu pipe but I like the foil to
Just tag valve handle. Never erase writing on a valve
Why not?
a small piece of scrap Hardie cement siding can be used to heat shield the wood stud
Alooominum. You yanks love it. 😋
Hey, be nice 😋
I just switch the nail out for a screw but I’m not a plumber full time so don’t listen to me
You’re too good to be a dirty plumber, you’re an hvac technician, king of the world
I like it
😎
I did something similar with the copper pipe soldering, but used a sheet of .030 aluminum sheet stock. 😅 I was a 17 year old kid who was interested in doing some handy work around the house. Drilled a hole in a copper water line hanging cabinets (thankfully) in the garage, made the repair, and finished hanging the cabinets.
EDIT: If you have water constantly dribbling into the area you’re trying to solder that messing up your flux. Mash some bread into the pipe ends you’re connecting. It’ll absorb the water long enough to make the connection and soften up enough to pass through an outside faucet.
Bread trick works . Now days we just use a sharkbite fitting or pex and a clamp. Soldering is going to become extinct soon in my opinion. No fire risk at all using the newer options.
@@76biggdogg I hear you. Copper is getting too expensive now to plumb homes with. After 20 years or so I’ve seen PVC, to CPVC, to pex. It’s getting cheaper and easier, but IMO dealing with the old stuff should still be a must to learn with future generations. Methods change with time, but homes don’t.
Steel licence plates work good too. Also not lying knew the clamp one it's essentially a portable light duty press just like a vise.
😏
I have a tool specifically designed for that. Had it for years.
That c clamp could’ve helped my sanity last week, them nails are still sticking out
