Instead of making several jigs, one for each size hole/bit you can simply stick a piece of masking tape over the area you want the hole. Then place the diamond-coated drill bit/hole cutter on a slight angle and begin drilling until you've created a slight half-moon groove in the glass. Then gradually level your angle until you're straight up an down and then continue till you're through. The tape assists in keeping the bit from skipping all over the glass and is less involved than building a jig...really handy when you can't or don't have the time/space to build and store multiple jigs. MAsking tape ont he exit side as well will reduce microchipping. Clean cut
@@ulysses_grant you're right sometimes I read the comments and think about how advanced we haven't become.
i want to drill some drainage holes into glass jars for my plants and this is EXACTLY the video i needed. Thank you so much!!
You can put tape on glass where your cutting and that will stop the chipping. Great idea with the water bottle!! THANKS😘

I suddenly have so many projects I want to try! :D
THIS is what RUclips was made for!!!
Agave Bob No it wasn't.
WOW, what great and informative video. I've been wanting to cut a colored jar or bottle to put my LED fairy lights into for a night light. Problem solved, ordering the bits tonight.....many thanks.
Thanks for just the facts and no music. Loved the trickle down water applicator.
Thank you so much!!! Bought a thick vase to make a lamp. Wasn't sure where to start... this video was heaven sent! 💖
Well made video. Has all the info you want and edited well. Nice job.

I love how cheap little drill bits and stuff have gotten. I got a set of 110 Dremil bits for 10 bucks recently on ebay, can't go wrong with that.

They are cheap because they are made very poorly. Low quality materials and terrible quality control. But if you only need to cut a few holes then they will be fine.
This guys a good teacher, quick fast forwards thru all the drills. Good video man.
I try to get to the point fast in my videos. Thanks for that feedback.
THANK YOU! 5 years later and this video is still helping people like me! Subscribed 🔥
Don't rock the bit. Causes chips and possible cracking of the glass.
And where's your video on cutting into glass, didn't seem to mess up his glass
@@smoothlyrough512 Yes it did. He mentions it in the video. TheNYgolfer is right. Just go slow and with as little movement as possible to get the cleanest cut.
@@smoothlyrough512 smh
@@smoothlyrough512 lmao how embarrassing that you typed that hahahaha
FINALLY found a good glass cutting video. Thanks!
Thank you so much!! I've been researching the best ways to drill through surfaces like glass, ceramics, and porcelain -- your video has been the most informative by far! Thank you for sharing your tip on creating a steady stream of water -- brilliant! Also, I greatly enjoyed your video. Not only was it informative, but it was well thought out and well made.
Thanks so much for that great feedback and the kudos.

I'm very glad that I came across this video! added it to my Repair folder. Don't need this now but I have more knowledge now than I did 5 minutes ago. Thanks!
That was wonderful. I'm planning a garden water feature with glass dishes. This solved ALOT of problems.
I'd love to see it
Wife: Chris, what happened to my mirror?
You: Glass termites!
Glermites
Neat! I used a similar method and a slightly more expensive bit to drill holes in granite counter-tops for faucet installation back when that was my nine to five. I like the soda bottle trick. We used to just stop and dribble more water in every five seconds or so.
I have these bits for my Dremel. They're awesome. You can even cut in at an angle. That 2liter bottle method is genius. Thank you!
think someones going to be mad when all the glasses and mugs in your kitchen have holes in them because you got too excited with your new bits;)
shonuffisthemaster lol
That's what you call a never ending coffee mug.
Some people make holes in coffee mugs, vases and more to create a great flower pot.No one gets mad about it.
at least there's a strong reason to replace those old glasses and mugs in the kitchen LOL

Man, what a glass hole.
What did you call me?
Chris Notap I think he means you have a very nice glass hole. 😁
@powerpc127 and chris notap: great banter. plus i agree with maurice and joe
Too many glass holes here.
What can i do with the coffee mug after I drilled the hole?
Worth a thumbs up just for the plastic bottle water dispenser.
When everyone shows up to work on Monday ... The office will be well ventilated. Thanks Chris!
Thanks for the tutorial! Hoping to make my own canning jar-style wall sconce lights. I've gathered that the jars must be ventilated to allow heat from the bulb to escape, hence my finding your helpful video. Really appreciate your extra notations throughout the video , and overall concise instruction.
How about just really cool bulbs? LED?
i did my grandmothers reading glasses now she has holefocals.....
haha thats gold. grandmas holefocals. :-)
Best comment of the year! Holefocals
lol, thats kinda something i'd like to see. and old lady with neat little holes drilled into each lens, and grandma is none the wiser, but notes her vision seems blurry but only when she looks straight ahead.
🤓🤤😃
Best comment ever
No Chris you can't borrow a glass off of me again everytime you return them there's a hole in it.
The water bottle tip is as simple as mindblower. Thanks a lot!
Time to make “dribble” glasses for the whole family! Thank you for the excellent video!👍🏼
