Shaman King was the first anime that I ever fell in love with and to this day, it still stands as my favorite anime of all time I love it and the history and back story of it Hearing that there is going to be a reboot of the show, albeit sad, gives me hope to see what they can do after seeing all the amazing anime that have come out since the early 2000s :) truly excited to see how this show is evolved
Great video about how the manga made you feel back then, and I can connect with that. But, if you're gonna talk about why Shaman King deserves a new anime adaptation, it's a must to talk about how even the author wasn't satisfied with the manga and how it ended. Hiroyuki Takei worked at the final arc and basically improved every aspect of the story's final chapters (just imagine if Togashi made the same with Yu Yu Hakusho...). So, other than the original incomplete 32 volume version of SK, there is the Kanzenban Edition, that can be seen as the completed version of the SK manga to read: there are several extra chapters (side stories, just comedic bits, etc.), and also a sequel to SK called SK Flowers, and even other works that are currently being published (Super Star, Red Crimson and Marcos). That's why the new anime television series will adapt the 35 volumes of the "new complete manga edition". I mean, the new anime release has more to do with that, than with simply nostalgia. Hopefully now Shaman King will get the recognition it deserves.
I went through some nasty stuff the year this came out, so I didn't get to watch the show more than 2 episodes, but I liked the characters a lot. You've made me excited to read the manga, thanks.
I remember absolutely loving the shit out of this manga and reading every single volume at the library. So glad there’s hope for some justice for shaman king
Oh man, this anime is my childhood. I remember being fascinated by how DIFFERENT its characters are. Yoh was one of my role models since middle school. His casual, laid-back attitude showed me how to cope with my anxiety and the result was instant the moment his ideas started to sink in. (Tamao was legit how I was back then, I have never related to a character more.) I saw the anime first, and it was a translation in my native language from the English dub, and yet there was still enough hints of its greatness to get me hooked. (I have to admit though, I didn't really like the anime ending....) Needless to say, I am EXCITED for the new adaptation!
Shaman king was one of the first manga that I fell in love with as a kid but I sadly never finished it. I remember trying to find the anime on youtube and when I watched it it just felt so different in tone compared to the manga.
Men... the nostalgia of this anime.. this is a childhood anime to me, its very underrated anime IMO but in my country they show Shaman King in the public television soo every 90's baby here that watch anime knows Shaman King, i'm 24 now but i definitely gonna watch the remake of this old gem. I hope the new generation of anime fans appreciate this too.
Shaman King has been so good! I hope you do a follow up some time about your thoughts about the current adaptation. I remember getting bored of the original series when it aired on fox back in the day after a few episodes. But I am loving Shaman King. I am happy its finally getting the respect it deserves.
I remember watching the anime and then reading the manga a few years ago. Shaman king is and will always be one of my favorite stories, the sequel series is still running and Im really excited to see where it goes, but getting a Shaman King: Brotherhood makes me so excited to see what the past anime missed. Please make more shaman king content people need to know!!
It may not have been that big in the US but it was an all time classic here in the Philippines. Our voice actors were leaps and bounds ahead of the toonami peeps in terms of conveying character’s emotions through their voice. Our anime voice actors from the late 90’s to the early 2000’s were so close to how awesome japanese voice actors were (they’re still god-tier really) and Shaman King was luckily a part of their awesome history.
I'm so glad you talked about this, Shaman King was one of my favorite shows to watch as a child so I'm really glad it's getting another shot. I'm always surprised when i bring it up and people have never heard of so yeah, Go Shaman King!
Oh man, I was a big fan of the manga when it was released with the American Shonen Jump back in the day! But the anime was so underwhelming for me. I'm glad it's getting a proper start again!
Don't watch it on kissanime like the other guy said. The place is filled to the brim with adware, spyware, redirects, and everything in between. Any other site is better than that mess.
I'm going to gave "Shaman King" a watch when it's comes out, also thank you for not trashing other show to bring this up, I seen too many other anime channels that bring one show down just to rise up another.
So wet for the Shaman King reboot!!!! When I was a child and saw the series for the first time I remember that I missed the final three epsiodes and I was so gloomy for days! One of my favourite animes fs!
which was not how he said, Yoh did not "get" a girlfriend, Anna was always his fiance (because marriage arrange by parents) and their relationship was already advanced there are nuances in it that we as the viewer/reader learn as the story goes on.
:O I didn't know there's going to be a Shaman King anime! I read the manga way back when and really liked it. Something to look forward to next year, I guess.
Jojo does more on the “hamon” manifestation of the characters, not ghosts: Shaman kings are ACTUAL spirits from different lore and nations. They use different spiritual paths and techniques to fight for the right to be king. That’s what sets them apart.
I'm so happy about this. Shaman King was a phenomenon in Latin America (in my case Brazil) but it's very rare to find american reviewers talking about the series and I'm so happy to see people talking about a manga that is so important to me and my development
Wow! Being someone who's grown up quite a bit on Toonami I don't remember this show. I did have to watch it on & off due to one parent having cable & the other no. So maybe that's why. I look forward to the interpretation coming out next April! Thanks for the recommendation.
0:55 Sui-chan!! Shaman King had quite a troubled later half. The main story was more or less a tournament arc which didn't quite go anywhere; between power escalations and revivals etc the end was a bit of a mess. I finished the manga a few years ago, and I couldn't recall much other than it being a mess. Early Shaman King was good, really good. Perhaps the popularity made Jump drag it out longer than necessary, leading to the author losing steam. Eventually the popularity dropped, the anime opted for an original bland ending, and to my knowledge the manga wasn't able to even conclude properly during serialization. It was really unfortunate. When I first heard the news that a remake is on the table, I was... confused. The manga has concluded and I don't see an anime remake being able to boost its sales. What's more perplexing to me is that they aim to do a full adaptation, which has me worried both in terms of animation resources and story quality. A remake on the level of hunterxhunter is a rarity, so I'm cautiously pessimistic. But still, watching the few animated panels for that announcement video, all that I loved about Shaman King came rushing back. The characters, the style, the themes... Man I really hope a miracle happens and the remake is good.
Actually the author came out this year with an anniversary edition with improved art (didn’t think I needed it til I saw the new panels and wow they look good) + a revised ending. I’m waiting for all of them to come out to reread and check out the new ending but the last new volume was published already so if you’re curious you can already see for yourself and hopefully get even more excited about the anime reboot.
That's fair Shaman King was cancelled mid arc then revived with the KangZengBang serialization I'll admit it does get messy especially with it's several spin offs. But since the manga is getting rereleased there is still money to be made the ending may leave a bad taste in ppls mouths tho as most only remember the dubbed anime.
Shaman King is coming back? Wowwww! I knew that everything would workout! So hype now! I have been thinking about it lately and have been hoping for something!
This got me so excited! I grew up with the anime, but I have trouble going back to it. I really hope it's a good adaptation so that I can discover the original story. I could maybe read the manga as well, but I have trouble reading manga.
Idk if it’s just me forgetting the over all feel of the show, or my more media absorbing brain, but I feel that the new adaptation is making a similar mistake that brotherhood did, and that is yes involving more from their manga but not giving it weight at the new version like the old version did.
Dude this has always been my favorite anime, ever since I first saw it on fox box I rewatched it over and over instead of most anime but thanks for making a vid like this. I hope other people understand how great it is
Yoh did not gain a girlfriend who eventually became his fiance throughout the story. Anna was introduced as his fiance and their relationship does not change it all throughout the entirety of the story you just learn how it got to where is when she was introduced through flashbacks.
I was going to say it but I just let it go since he kind of added the arranged marriage thing but made it seem unimportant. That and Shamash not being Japanese at all, it's a Mesopotamian god.
After watching the anime and reading all the manga from the original to flowers, from the magazine issues to the Hiatus, years of waiting till finaly the continuation of flower, then another announced hiatus, and now a new anime adaptation, from childhood to my late teens, this is how this whole series makes a roller coaster of emotion for me.
I'm freaking stoked for this remaster This was very well put together. I loved everything you expressed about Japan and the Culture. this was one of my favorite Shonen. Very well said man. love these vids!
They Claymore manga just "recently" finished when i decided to buy all the volumes in 2016. Very satisfied how that story developed. Also i don't know if that was in the anime. They also show and explain to you exactly how unpleasant they look naked. Let's just say the vomiting wasn't an exaggerated reaction at all. Sorta early hinted mid-late story spoilers ahead, you have been warned: Pre transformation wounds don't heal and they got implanted with youma parts. So they are real Frankenstein-esque body horror shows to wildly varying degree. Like open wounds just held together with stitches bad. I think one said that she has to redo the stitches sometimes. They apparently come with movement sometimes. There are some mildly hinted side mentions that thy actually have trouble getting laid at all. So most just seem to not try anymore. Because not all take it as well as Theresa who shocked vomit bandit intentionally. So she probably was half serious with her "offer" but totally expected that response.
Well, count me in! I haven’t really ever looked into Shaman King before (not really into the long form Shonen anime either), but this feels like a brand new chance for me.
Really good video on what made Shaman King unique and special and why it probably resonated with us a lot as kids. I also do really like the english dub for some reason but god i am so excited for this faithful remake. Seeing some of the fight scenes actually animated is gonna rule.
As I understand it "Underrated" doesnt mean that people who watched/read it didnt like it, but rather it didnt get the recognicion it deserved. Which in my opinion is true if you consider how popular a mediocore shonen like "Fairy Tail" is if you compare it to Shaman king
But can you floof the main waifu's hair? If not, then she's *PATHETIC* Why do I say this? Because I've never watched Shaman King and if the waifu's hair can't be floofed then CLEARLY she's not an S tier waifu. Can't even BEGIN to compete with Lord Twigo.
Gonna be honest, never heard of this anime before but certainly I cannot get any more hyped up than this. Really looking forward to it now. Thank you for a making such a great video full of lavish amount of information. (of course subscribed ;) )

Shaman King was the first anime that I ever fell in love with and to this day, it still stands as my favorite anime of all time
I love it and the history and back story of it
Hearing that there is going to be a reboot of the show, albeit sad, gives me hope to see what they can do after seeing all the amazing anime that have come out since the early 2000s :)
truly excited to see how this show is evolved
Man this takes me back. I loved the anime and manga. Hao Asakura is one of my favorite antagonists ever. And it has the best opening ever imo.
(Tamao was legit how I was back then, I have never related to a character more.)
I saw the anime first, and it was a translation in my native language from the English dub, and yet there was still enough hints of its greatness to get me hooked. (I have to admit though, I didn't really like the anime ending....) Needless to say, I am EXCITED for the new adaptation!
Ngl that main character energy HES got is off the charts. Dudes lookin clean af.
I just hope they do my boy Chocolove justice, I don't want him censored or some BS he's beautiful as he is
Nah, I want him redesigned. Always hated how he looked. That's doing him justice
@@EmperorPyros he must stay the same
Im really worried about this anime in the US because of this character. I love him and hope people dont jump all over him
Shaman king was one of the first manga that I fell in love with as a kid but I sadly never finished it.
I hope the new generation of anime fans appreciate this too.
stopped watching a shonen anime to watch a video abt a shonen anime
Shaman King has been so good! I hope you do a follow up some time about your thoughts about the current adaptation. I remember getting bored of the original series when it aired on fox back in the day after a few episodes. But I am loving Shaman King. I am happy its finally getting the respect it deserves.
I like that you added the Danganronpa music into the background.
It's good stuff
@@HidinginPublic I really like it, it adds to the vibe
I completely agree.
So it’s Jojo with Japanese folklore? That sounds right down my alley!
Mega gamer
not only japanese, it also taps on different folklore from different regions like the native americans
STANDO POWA
@@kishi_illust it also has one big arc revolving around the native american culture and it presents it really well.
Japanese, Chinese, Native American, African, even some thinly veiled Judeo-Christianity and more! All the world culture you never knew you NEEDED
When the remake was annouced, a small part of myself was relieved. Can't wait to see what they'll do with it
Dude...you gave me the trip down memory lane I didn’t know I needed. I’m 30 years old. I appreciate your work. Subscribed.
Just don"t mess up my boy Chocolove and everything else will be fine. Please don't mess this character up.
I'm so glad you talked about this, Shaman King was one of my favorite shows to watch as a child so I'm really glad it's getting another shot. I'm always surprised when i bring it up and people have never heard of so yeah, Go Shaman King!
This sounds like a really good anime with alot of potential. I really like the setting. Im a huge shounen fan so i know when i see a good one.
I hear Futaba's Palace theme in the background. Glad to see you're a man of culture as well.
kids from 2000s: damn this anime is cool, hype stuff keeps happenin
Kids from 2010s: *Iz ThAT a JojO RefErEncE*
Dude I facepalmed
@@tryanything5473 :^)
kids in the 2020's: [dies in jojo's referance]
Both are great series, the kids who say Is that a Jojo reference probably never watch it and only from the clip or meme alone.
@@TheOverlordEND yep
when april 2021 comes, I hope I'll remember this video... The way you described the characters seemed like something I'd enjoy.
Oh man, I was a big fan of the manga when it was released with the American Shonen Jump back in the day! But the anime was so underwhelming for me. I'm glad it's getting a proper start again!
love the subtle p5 "when my mother was there" background and realizing how similar persona, shaman king, and jojo are
Honestly I've never watched shamin king, but I'll be sure to watch the reboot next year.
Watch the original on kissanime
Used to watch Shamin King but it was a 4kids which I have to forget about it until that announcement.
Don't watch it on kissanime like the other guy said. The place is filled to the brim with adware, spyware, redirects, and everything in between. Any other site is better than that mess.
Bro, I hear the "Futaba's Palace" theme music in the background!!!
Good stuff
Can't wait to see my boy Horohoro again with his funny move names
I'm going to gave "Shaman King" a watch when it's comes out, also thank you for not trashing other show to bring this up, I seen too many other anime channels that bring one show down just to rise up another.
Shaman king manga : Death and reincarnation
the anime : Gundam battle
it felt like it was dragon ball with how many times they got revived
So wet for the Shaman King reboot!!!! When I was a child and saw the series for the first time I remember that I missed the final three epsiodes and I was so gloomy for days! One of my favourite animes fs!
Okay, you sold me when you talked about the romantic relationship that the MC is in
which was not how he said, Yoh did not "get" a girlfriend, Anna was always his fiance (because marriage arrange by parents) and their relationship was already advanced there are nuances in it that we as the viewer/reader learn as the story goes on.
@@CRSB00 outside of the whole arranged marriage bit what he said was still true
to spoil the fun, Yow is a father before the final battle.
That’s what sets them apart.
well, he did mention that stands being "ghosts" are what fans jokingly refer to them as
And boring fight scenes. Thats why it was not as popular.
Fight scenes make everything top notch.
Sounds closer to Persona/SMT then
@@fungames1594 stein;gate would like to have a word with u
So basically Fate/Stay Night
I'm so happy about this. Shaman King was a phenomenon in Latin America (in my case Brazil) but it's very rare to find american reviewers talking about the series and I'm so happy to see people talking about a manga that is so important to me and my development
The main villain is so powerful they had to tell his mom on him so she could scold him and make him stop
Talking about Shaman King, while SMT music as background - you won an instant sub, budd!
Look around you look beyond (sorry for writing this lame comment but thats the only thing i remember from shaman king)
@@gotchu2351 despite the hype , your a dumb-ass and clearly never read this masterpiece
Shaman King is coming back? Wowwww! I knew that everything would workout! So hype now! I have been thinking about it lately and have been hoping for something!
Get ready everyone ... this version of the story is way darker!!!
This got me so excited! I grew up with the anime, but I have trouble going back to it. I really hope it's a good adaptation so that I can discover the original story. I could maybe read the manga as well, but I have trouble reading manga.
This this manga is so underrated. It's like Jojo meets bleach and it never stops being cool
Thank you for making this video you’ve sold me on watching the show and reading the manga
Idk if it’s just me forgetting the over all feel of the show, or my more media absorbing brain, but I feel that the new adaptation is making a similar mistake that brotherhood did, and that is yes involving more from their manga but not giving it weight at the new version like the old version did.
It sucks unfortunately
Dude this has always been my favorite anime, ever since I first saw it on fox box I rewatched it over and over instead of most anime but thanks for making a vid like this. I hope other people understand how great it is
The 4kids dub was terrible, but no one can convince me that dub opening theme wasn't amazing.
I can trust that you’re a man of taste when that futaba palace music hit👌🏻 I’m exited to see this series get a second shot.
Yoh did not gain a girlfriend who eventually became his fiance throughout the story. Anna was introduced as his fiance and their relationship does not change it all throughout the entirety of the story you just learn how it got to where is when she was introduced through flashbacks.
?
I was going to say it but I just let it go since he kind of added the arranged marriage thing but made it seem unimportant. That and Shamash not being Japanese at all, it's a Mesopotamian god.
well we do get 1 BIG step in their relationship at one point tho so i guess it grows somewhat.
@Shaman Xeed how does yoh' s feelings for her or her feelings for him different from the time she's introduced to the end of the manga
YO! YOH IS COMING BACK!?!?!? YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSS!!!!
I want to hear your thoughts about the manga's ending.
I just feel a tad bit bad for how many hours you had to stay up editing. Always love your videos though
I'm freaking stoked for this remaster
This was very well put together. I loved everything you expressed about Japan and the Culture. this was one of my favorite Shonen. Very well said man. love these vids!
Shaman king is one of my favourites og anime of my childhood.
Very mega gamer
This news just made my morning! I'm so stoked!
Who else remembers hit man reborn and de gray man with this also claymore.
undertakersarmpit A true man of culture ass well
They Claymore manga just "recently" finished when i decided to buy all the volumes in 2016. Very satisfied how that story developed. Also i don't know if that was in the anime. They also show and explain to you exactly how unpleasant they look naked. Let's just say the vomiting wasn't an exaggerated reaction at all.
Sorta early hinted mid-late story spoilers ahead, you have been warned:
Pre transformation wounds don't heal and they got implanted with youma parts.
Bro I think I just unlocked the memory of this show. Thanks for that
I know this video is good. I just know.
Same
Well, count me in! I haven’t really ever looked into Shaman King before (not really into the long form Shonen anime either), but this feels like a brand new chance for me.
He kinda looks like sonic
Really good video on what made Shaman King unique and special and why it probably resonated with us a lot as kids. I also do really like the english dub for some reason but god i am so excited for this faithful remake. Seeing some of the fight scenes actually animated is gonna rule.
Underrated ? Everyone i asked loved shaman king.
As I understand it "Underrated" doesnt mean that people who watched/read it didnt like it, but rather it didnt get the recognicion it deserved. Which in my opinion is true if you consider how popular a mediocore shonen like "Fairy Tail" is if you compare it to Shaman king
This may sound weird, but I was always captivated how the artist drew anatomy, specifically muscles, joints, and bones.
But can you floof the main waifu's hair? If not, then she's *PATHETIC*
Why do I say this? Because I've never watched Shaman King and if the waifu's hair can't be floofed then CLEARLY she's not an S tier waifu. Can't even BEGIN to compete with Lord Twigo.
Gonna be honest, never heard of this anime before but certainly I cannot get any more hyped up than this. Really looking forward to it now. Thank you for a making such a great video full of lavish amount of information. (of course subscribed ;) )
